Thinking of you all today in Canada Some of my memories of my travels through Canada from 30 years ago, are watching the Toronto Blue Jays, play the Montreal Canadiens, Ascending The CN tower, Driving accross the Great Plains from Toronto to Fort Qu'Appelle, to hitchiking in minus 40 degrees celsius and being rescued by Canadian Indigenous people, a Mother and son, who offered my friend and I a ride in their 1960's Valliant wagon to Winnipeg. Great laughs at Yuk Yuks in Edmonton as well as great hospitality from the Campbells, followed by another hitchhiking adventure down the Icefield Parkway Christmas in Banff, New Years in Calgary, and a week in Red Deer were all part of the adventure, along with a week in Nelson BC with a Canadian mate I had met while backpacking around Australia in the 80's, I could go on and on, there is so much to offer here, the scenery, the adventures, and of course the people. However you are choosing to spend the day wishing you all good health and peace. we miss you here in Europe and hope to see you all again soon. People ask me what have I been doing while waiting to share Europe with our guests again. Volunteer work is just one thing I signed up for, and it has been great, this weekend I met loads of great people from all walks of life, a mix of students, fellow travel industry workers, support crew, organisers, photographers and retirees the oldest volunteer was 84, plus local and international competitors including @troybrosnan a fellow Adelaidien. I was a great atmosphere, my job as marshall 25 was vehicle and pedestrian control where the course and a mountain service road crossed. Thanks for all the Danke schons, merci's, thank you's and smiles from everyone they were appreciated and as plentiful as the excitement and thrills and spills. It was very hot and dusty but well worth the experience. If you have some spare time, and want to give something back, then wherever you are get in touch with a volunteer group, I would highly reccomend it and it can open up a whole new world of experiences. Today June 5th is #worldenviromentday , 2021 theme is Ecosystem Restoration and Pakistan is this years global host. Some ways we can all help is to reduce, renew and re-use, and Trafalgar and the Treadright Foundation are great supporters of these values. It is not to late to do your part and even small changes can make a big difference Here are a few photos including a photo of what have been lifesavers for me for the last year, my hiking boots, they have served me well, especially in this last year. The reason I bought these was they can be re-soled, and that what I did, after blowing the sole in a killer hike with my mate Tim, I sent them for a full refurbishment from Lowa, and here they are as good as new and ready for this years adventures. Free trip to Europe, how great would that be, where would you go? Innsbruck is finally open, after 200 days of curfew, quarantine, restaurant and bar closures, we are open and up and running again. Europe is ready and waiting for you, and although there are still some minor regulations, I can tell you, it is a great feeling to sit in a cafe, order a coffee, read a paper ( note to self, remember reading glasses) and watch a more happy and relaxed world go by. In the words of William Wallace, "Freeeeedom".
