Am I the asshole for trying to kill my boyfriend even though I don't seem to remember it?
I (18M) met my current boyfriend (24? 25?M) because he was investigating me for being a mass murderer (I'm not), long story short after I was cleared of suspicion when my dad tried to fake-kill me and my sort of ex-girlfriend M (19F) and we spent some time chained together (you can check my post history for that one), we started dating. Even though we're now working together to find the actual killer, whenever he gets mad at me or we get into a fight, he brings up the fact I tried to kill him to win the argument, which I say is both really petty and stupid because I am NOT a murderer, but he insists I just don't remember it. Last time he brought it up, I really didn't know how to respond to him, so we haven't spoken in two days, which is also derailing the investigation. The other people in our team try to defend me most of the time, but they also want me to let it go so we can keep working. AITA??

"oh so the appeal of Lawlight to you is-" it's Everything Baby. It's the mind games it's Light seething with hatred while L gives him a wide eyed shit eating grin. It's them thinking the same thing at the same time without knowing it. It's their mutual appreciation for each other's intelligence and L disliking the second Kira because their style is so unlike real Kira and Light thinking Near is so beneath L that he doesn't deserve to wear his mask. after having killed L himself. And on that topic, it's Light running to hold L in his arms as he dies. so he can give him the evilest evil grin but also maybe so he can hold him? thoughts? It's the scenario in which they are enemies the scenario in which they are surprisingly friendly rivals the scenario in which they work together and the scenario in which they work together but sometimes fistfight about it. It's the potential for even more intense hatred and the potential for softness and gentleness.
But yes my favourite is the potential for them to be the most mundane couple ever whose favourite recreational activity is being pretentious dicks to other people together. And lying to them. They work as a crime solving duo that argues about the moral implications of something for two hours but then end up agreeing on using psychological torture. and then they come home and cuddle on the couch and watch the news

"Yagami Light as a youtuber would probably plagiarise" WRONG Yagami Light is insanely intelligent and looks down on literally every single other human person, he would rather stab himself in the eye than using the works of someone else - someone who can't be anything but beneath him. Pre-Death Note youtuber!Light would make long-ass videos about Everything Wrong With Society with completely unhinged takes about how xyz small innocuous thing is responsible for gang violence with numbers* to back it up.
"Light would plagiarise" get the fuck out of here.
*numbers which he completely twists to his own bias - without even knowing it because he thinks way too highly of himself

Light and Sayu had to get all of their questionable personality traits from their mom. I guarantee you that Sachiko told her children to date a rich person and try rob them blind before breaking up.

i love L's death dont get me wrong, but god would it have been amazing if light killed him with his own hands the ways he says that one time. just imagine it.
you are L, you know light yagami is kira, you dont know how(or maybe you do, its not important to the scenario) he does it but somehow he induces heart attacks in his victims, seemingly by just wishing it upon them. you know that it is only a matter of time until he learns your name, or maybe he already knows it and is drawing out the game longer just to mess with you. you know your death will be a heart attack, not the most peaceful way to go, but better than others.
but then, he lunges at you, you are on the cold ground of the task force hq. his hands wrap around your throat and squeeze. there is a violence in his eyes that you have always known was there, even though you never saw it. he hid it well, after all, light yagami is exceptionally well at wearing a person suit. so well it seems, that you yourself were fooled. you knew what he was underneath but you didn't think he'd ever show it. you claw at the hands that refused to bloody themselves, but what god's hands aren't bloody.
anyways,,, i have death note brain rot(always), i just think it would be very good thematically, cuz light distances himself from the killings by using the death note instead of his own hands, so him actually using his hands to kill his enemy would have been really fun(and hot)(who said that), and i feel like it adds some fun dynamic to his and L's relationship. especially near the end of L's life where he clearly is expecting to die so he would be expecting a heart attack just like the rest of kira's victims, but instead he gets to witness the malice hes always seen inside this teen boy?? i just think itd be neat

L, showing Light his apartment: I should warn you, it's a little under-furnished. *opens door to reveal empty, windowless room with nothing but a computer on the floor* I'm thinking of having a window installed.

The way I completely lose all interest in Lawlight as a ship if Light isn't Kira. And frankly, I feel like L would agree with me on this one. I don't think he'd gaf abt Light in the slightest if Light wasn't Mr. Serial Killer.

One of my favorite things about death note is each time you watch it you gain another Stage of understanding. It's such a fun show to think about, and although it probably wasn't planned how you were analyzing it (purportedly written guided by the rule of cool, which is so, so hard to believe if you've spent more than a minute thinking about it. HOW is it so good. It's not even a Supernatural situation, where you have to web-weave individual frames to make it compelling. Death Note, if you watch/read it the first time without preconceived notions about the author, not only is compelling, but the arcs seem well constructed with both narrative and thematic weight. It's only at the end where things begin to fall apart, and even there if you look hard enough, explanations are there (Mikami was controlled by the death note, etc)).
I forgot what I was going to say. Post changed, this is now about how fundamentally Death Note's biggest problem is that nothing was intended how it was taken because it yeah, it's deserving of modern classic status, but only if you have good reading comprehension and zero respect for the author's intended vision.
In my opinion, this really isn't a problem, I just wish I saw a larger volume of analysis, like I used to back in 2010-2016-ish. One can say every aspect has been discussed to death, but the problem is, a lot of the analysis was really stupid because we were all 12 at the time (not really, but man, going on the internet and reading all that...I was disappointed and I was in my young teens). SOME of it was great, and my perspectives have changed so much since I got into this fandom, so I'd like to read everyone's thoughts again and see what I think.
Because the thing is: Death Note asks some complex questions that one can have a completely different perspective on within the space of a year.
I like Death Note for the same reasons as when I was twelve (the unhinged logic that would not stand up in court (and the characters know this), the characters themselves, the general structure being original and creative, the tragedy of it, the ways you can MAKE it into a comedy given the sheer absurdity of certain aspects even though in context it might seem either normal or heartbreaking, the questions you ask while you watch it and how it makes you think about the narrative, etc) but I have completely different opinions on every theme it explores and moral question it poses.
