Hisca Aiheap Roleplay
Watching all you lovely people roleplay made me want to get in on the action.  So, without further adieu, may I present my Hisca Aiheap, from Vesperia First Strike!
While the blog is still a bit under construction, if anyone wants to start up a roleplay with me, go right ahead!  I'll put up an open RP as well, once I've organized everything.
You can find her here if you'd like to start up a thread with me.

30 Days of Vesperia: Day 10
Hey there, lovely people, and welcome to the one-third marker!  On today's agenda, we have...
So let's take Sodia.  She gets quite a bit of hate considering she tried to kill Yuri. I completely understand why this is upsetting.  If you'd have given me this prompt the very first time I played the game, I might have said 'Off with Sodia's head' and been done with it.  But looking at her now, I find her too interesting a character to kill off.  For such a minor character, she's quite complex.
Let's look at things from her perspective, shall we?  All Sodia knows about Yuri, apart from the fact he is Flynn's childhood friend, is that he's a wanted criminal.  That's how she's first introduced to him after all, and Yuri tends to make rather lasting impressions.
She only has a reckless view of Yuri, and furthermore, she starts to see Flynn being influenced (possibly negatively, in her eyes) by Yuri.  It seems like, when she attacks Yuri on Zaude, perhaps she's just trying to do Flynn a favor.
Even though she does something drastic, it's clear she hadn't totally thought through things.  There's no look of triumph on her face when Yuri falls - she looks completely horrified.  I'm not sure what she was planning to do, stabbing Yuri, but it's clear she has some regret for it.
So long story short, none of the characters stuck out to me in a 'get them out of the game for the love of all that is holy' sort of way.  I picked to discuss Sodia simply because she has quite the controversy surrounding her.

30 Days of Vesperia: Day 9
Hello, lovely people!  Time for Day Nine: A song you enjoyed most.
Judith, a Portrait of Solitude
In Pitiful Silence (Reminds me of Ortion Cavern from TotA; could be why I like it so much)
A Tragic Decision (aka the Song That Plays Every Time Something Sad Happens)
You'll notice I have a taste for the melancholy :P
Not a whole lot to say here other than 'yes, I like these songs' so...see ya tomorrow!  Thanks for reading.

30 Days of Vesperia: Day 8
While the Tales games have come a long way in terms of dungeon design (ie they're not TEDIOUS and IMPOSSIBLE (I'm looking at you, Symphonia)) I don't enjoy them all that much.  I suppose I like the Ice Floes; they have nice aesthetic, and are home to one of my favorite skits; the ghost ship isn't too bad either, thanks to its great dialogue; the Tower of Zaude is quite pretty on the inside.
But in terms of, like, going through the dungeons?  I can't say I enjoy that much.  I enjoy fighting the bosses at the ends of the dungeons, but that's actually a prompt in and of itself so...
Thanks for reading this little...whatever this was.

30 Days of Vesperia: Day 7
Hey there, wonderful people; today in 30 Days of Vesperia we talk about the seventh prompt, which is...
I'm surprised this hasn't shown up sooner.
Funny thing about pairings in Vesperia, though.  ToV is, as far as I'm concerned, the least canonically pair-able game in the series.  In Vesperia, I don't pair the characters all that much, to be honest - or at least the main cast.  I am a big fan of Raven/Casey, but I really wish we got to see more of Casey in the game.
Honestly, if a pairing is well-written, I enjoy reading it.  Judith/Yuri I like, Estelle/Flynn I like, Yuri/Estelle I like depending on the writer (to me, Estelle's crush on Yuri goes unrequited, but again, if it's well-written I'll read it gladly), the idea of Judith/Raven intrigues me, and...
...I wanna talk about Raven/Rita really quickly.  That one's a bit more of a stretch for me, given Rita is fifteen and clueless and Raven, despite his teasing, has too much respect for Rita to put his feelings out in the open, if he has any.  But I want to recommend a fanfic here, because it captures both those aspects of the characters and brings Raven and Rita slowly together in a way that felt completely natural and kept both of them in character (and the writing is excellent).
[Dances, by Aoicakes]
I will warn you, though, it's unfinished and hasn't been updated in something like ten months.  If you don't mind the possibility of it remaining unfinished, go read it!  It's one of the best ToV fanfics out there, IMO.
Thanks for reading!

30 Days of Vesperia: Days 5 and 6
Heyo, lovely people! I'm combining days five and six; they're very closely related, and writing just day five would not have given me much to talk about.  I discovered as much when I started elaborating on day five and realized I had plowed straight into day six's prompt.  Hence the two for one deal.
Why do I often control Yuri?  I am completely guilty of getting stuck with "He's the first character I learned how to use in the game and I control him best" syndrome.  What can I say, his wide range of artes and the ways in which you can link them are extremely fun; also, he can take hits. I am not cautious in video games.
I keep telling myself to give Judith a try, because she seems more versatile than Yuri, but I tend to overwhelm myself when I switch to her on a whim. I've played a bit as Raven, and learning to use him effectively is on my List of Things to Do Eventually.
I've never tried Estelle; Karol is too slow for my liking; Repede is too fragile for my less-than-careful playing style.
Spell casting with Rita kind of lost its appeal after hours of 'Blahblahblah TIDAL WAVE.'

30 Days of Vesperia: Day 4
...my team set up!
My lineup is usually Yuri, Raven, Estelle, and Judith.  I do have a tendency to switch things around pretty regularly, however.  If I'm not in a boss battle, I often leave Estelle out of my party in favor of Rita, because it makes random encounters and grinding go more quickly.  In my first play through, Rita was a constant in my party and I seldom included Judith at all; however, now that I have the hang of the game, having Rita in my party makes normal battles feel too easy.
Karol gets to be in my party when Estelle is kidnapped, for the sole reason that he can heal.  I would like to include Repede in my line up, because his speed is great and I love the fast attackers, but in my experience he's too much of a glass cannon.  Whenever I play with him in the party, he dies far more frequently than the other members.
As for Flynn and Patty... well, I've only played the Xbox 360 version, so I have no experience fighting with either of them.

30 Days of Vesperia: Day 3
Hands down, finding out Raven had not died in Baction was one of the highlights of the game for me.  Even better than seeing Raven alive was the reactions of the other party members.  Especially that moment where Raven tosses Yuri a knife and you wonder if he's going to end up dead for real.  Good suspense right there.
Despite my elation at having a Not Dead Raven, I can't help but feel it's a weak plot point.  Yes, I love Raven and I love that he doesn't perish halfway through the game after betraying your party (because that would be a terrible way to remember him), but those 'back from the dead' plot devices always feel a little lazy to me.  To my knowledge, you never get to explicitly hear how Raven got out/didn't get crushed under rubble; that is something that I would have liked very much to know.  Did he get out on his own, or did the Schwann Brigade find him?
I'm not saying I'd be happy if Raven had stayed dead, but it would have felt a bit more finished to either kill him for real or give us a plausible explanation, if that makes sense.
(In my personal head cannon, and possibly in other people's, Schwann died in Baction, and only Raven emerged.  That's something I have plans to elaborate on sometime in the future...)
Thanks for reading!

30 Days of Vesperia: Day 2
And on Day the Second, our prompt is...
Favorite Cutscene:
This one I had a hard time with. It's been a while since I've played through the game in full, but after jogging my memory a bit, I decided on a scene roughly one third of the way through the game...  [Spoilers ahead]
I know, I know, you saw this coming a mile away.
While watching Yuri appear like a ghost and deal out some delicious vigilante justice to a corrupt magistrate is extremely satisfying, the thing I like in that scene is the aftermath of the event.  After we see Estelle head back to the capital, there's a little exchange of dialogue between Yuri and Karol.  Karol lets Yuri know that Estelle hasn't gotten too far ahead and, if so inclined, Yuri can probably go say a proper goodbye to her.
Yuri's only response is to turn his back on Karol and mope in the corner.
I think this is the only time we see Yuri depressed - or showing a great deal of strong emotion at all.  Yuri usually shows off what he wants people to see and keeps his doubts and insecurities (of which there are few) hidden away.  I liked to see that he really had to wrestle with whether he'd made the right choice in taking Ragou's life into his own hands.  It was a moment in the game that really helped bring Yuri's character to life, and even more interesting is to see that he does eventually decide what he's done as acceptable, and even goes on to try again.
If you like, you can watch the scene here; the specific part I'm talking about begins at 8:56.

Starting off slow...With 30 days of Vesperia!
Yup, to start things off, I'm picking up the 30 Day ToV survey-opinion-whatever thing! Here we go.
Day 1: Favorite Character?
A toss up between Yuri and Raven.
They’re both witty, quirky, and loveable in their own way, but I’ll give you the short and sweet.
Yuri: Yuri’s faith in his own wisdom absolutely fascinates me.  I love the steadfastness with which he sticks to his beliefs, skewed or not.  While he seems fairly outgoing, he’s actually a rather private person; he usually keeps his opinion to himself, and makes sure the other characters are learning to make up their own minds as he does.  He's all about making sure people get to establish their own beliefs, in the same way he's learned to become grounded in his.
Raven: I like a character with layers and layers of complexity, and Raven hits the mark head-on. His alternate persona Schwann, for one, is literally an anti-Raven.  Add to that Damuron Atomais, Raven’s essentially dead early-twenties self, and you have something that could have become a complete psychological mess. He holds himself together quite well, though; he knows when to tease the other characters and when to be serious, despite the complete goofball act.
I could go on (and on, and on, and on) but I should be saving the extra words for my English paper.  It’s going to need them.
See ya tomorrow for Day Two!
