Erised Fic Recs Part I

@hd-erised has started and is posting a new drarry fic every day. Yay! Gimme moaaarr Drarryyyyy *grabby hands*

So, the collection on AO3 is here, it has about 15 works so far (including some amazing art!) and I thought I’d make a quick rec list of the first week’s fics, with the usual disclaimers that:

1. I haven’t read everything yet, and 2. My recs suck as my usual response to something I love is either an eloquent gjdlsdkflksdajdfkl or ‘omg you killed me how could you’. Bear with me and trust that these fics are truly exceptional.

1. The Claiming of Grimmauld Place (75k) by @bixgirl1

Summary:  When Grimmauld Place begins fighting against Harry’s ownership of it, he decides he needs help to train the historic home — but little does he expect that it’ll be Malfoy who’s most suitable for the challenge. However, as Malfoy and Harry get closer, Harry comes to understand that expectations aren’t always the best path by which to guide his heart — and in the process learns just what is needed to make a house a home.

Thoughts: This fic has everything I love: a sentient house, two pets that you will LOVE FOREVER, a smitten Harry, a Draco who makes my chest hurt when I think of him, amazing smut, a lot of emotion, omg I cried at the end. The characterisations are on point, there is humour and gorgeous, filthy sex and cool magical theory and it’s basically everything you’d want from a fic in one place. GO READ IT NOW

2. No One But You (10k) by @unadulteratedstorycollector

Summary:  Harry and Draco are friends. More than friends. Close friends. Which might be a little annoying for… well, everyone else around them.

Thoughts: Wonderfully written (some sentences are jewels), mutual pining, oblivious Harry, a sublime cast of friends. There’s humour and great sex and just a TON of feels and it’s ugh. So great. Just trust me on this.

3. Adventures in Solitude (Are You There, Sirius? It’s Me, Draco) (25k) by oceaxe

Summary:  Draco is grateful to have had Sirius’ portrait to confide in all those years ago, about his sexuality and unwanted feelings for a classmate named Harry. But when he gets the portrait out of storage after twenty years, the secrets he has kept from Sirius all along come out. Secrets about Draco’s role in the war… and secrets about Harry Potter.

Thoughts: The premise of this is absolutely magnificent. Portrait!Sirius is a masterpiece; he’s indolent and sexy and carefree at sixteen, which makes it all the more heartbreaking to see for us (and Draco) who know what the future holds for him. There are Wolfstar feels, a Jeddy mention, background Linny, and a Draco dealing with his sexuality and the repression of a whole host of emotions until it all comes flooding out in a couple of intense scenes. The Drarry first kiss is searing hot and the love in the epilogue will make you feel all warm and fuzzy. 

4. For The Greater Good (62k) by @jadepresley

Summary: When Harry and Draco discover they’ve been bonded to one another, neither one of them is prepared for the secrets they slowly begin to uncover.Together, they learn that they can’t escape their past, or the things that have been left hidden there, and that sometimes the only way to move forward is to look back.

Thoughts: OK so I only started reading this, but it’s so promising! The writing is fantastic, the story is intriguing, and it’s a freaking bonding fic! I LOVE bonding fics! Blaise is Harry’s Auror partner! And there’s a mystery! This fic is making me use a lot of exclamation marks! But it’s worth it! EDIT: Yes, it was absolutely incredible and worth every exclamation mark!

Ahhh, welcome, welcome! I’ll try not to make this too long. I tend to get a bit carried away. Okay, here we go….

All Our Secrets Laid Bare by firethesound (E, 149 K)

This is my all time favourite fic. Draco and Harry are Auror partners. There’s mutual pining, mystery, getting together, Ron being a great friend, and office sex.

Things Worth Knowing by Femme (femmequixotic), noeon (noe) (E, 164 K)

Hogwarts Eighth Year fic. Lots of angst. Honestly, as far as eighth year fics go, I think this is my favourite.

Bond by AnnaFugazzi (E, 173 K)

Hogwarts sixth year. Forced bonding. Do I really need to say more? Angsty angst.

Turn by Saras_Girl (E, 306 K)

This one is a masterpiece. I don’t think anything I could say could do it justice. I went into reading this really having no idea what it would even be about and I was not expecting what I got. It’s set right after the epilogue, Harry gets a second chance. Also, there’s a snake called Frankfurto.

All Missing Things (Can Be Found) by gracie137 (E, 100K)

Auror Harry, Unspeakable Draco. This fic has the most amazing original characters in it. Truly.

Number Seven by sara_holmes (M, 253 K)

Rentboy Draco, Ministry worker Harry. You know what? Just read everything by sara_holmes. These ones are also in my favourites list Get some and Mental.

The Claiming of Gimmauld Place by bixgirl1 (E, 74 K)

Read everything by bixgirl1 too, she’s amazing. This one is SO funny. I laughed most of the way through this. Basically, Draco and harry sharing a house. Draco has an interesting pet. 

Right Hand Red by lq_traintracks (lumosed_quill) (E, 73 K)

Here’s another eighth year one. For good measure. This one has party games, including twister.

Spideypool Fic Recs

I've recently been reading a lot of Wade/Peter fics, so I thought I'd share some of my favourites with you! Please remember to check the tags before reading <3

Peter goes on a terrible, terrible date, cashes in a favor on behalf of Spider-Man, and begs Deadpool to crash it.

Deadpool delivers.

After being drugged at a party, Peter is lucid enough to figure out that he needs help. But who does he even know (and trust) enough that he can just pop up on their doorstep at two in the morning?

Meanwhile, Wade would just really like to know who this random college kid is that showed up at his door.

Wade scoffs, shaking his head and elbowing Peter in the side. “Sure,” he says, sarcastic. “That’s why your spidey-sense doesn’t see me.”

Peter’s on the verge of laughing, wanting to join Wade in his amusement, but he freezes. His entire body goes still. He finds himself staring at a roof three buildings over, not even looking at anything. Two blocks away, a car alarm finally shuts off.

“I never told you that,” Peter says, the realization startling him.

Or: Peter's starting to realize just how much Wade knows about him.

A Friendly Neighbourhood Kidnapping by Willow Writes (12k)

Peter is more than a little mad when Wade ghosts him for years, and then when he finally shows his face in New York again, it’s to kidnap Peter Parker. So he decides to have some fun with the situation and see how long it takes for Wade to recognise him.

Wade thinks he has an easy hit ahead of him and is planning on getting back in touch with his favourite Web–Slinger once the job is done. But Peter Parker seems harder to take down than his buyer let on.

The figure moves quickly, but Peter’s faster. He’s still adjusting to the sudden brightness, so dark red is really the only thing he takes from this initial encounter, but it’s enough.

The 6 Times Peter Wanted To Reveal his Identity (And the 1 Time He Did) by Spongeekat (28k)

"Look, I’m just a Deadpool. I know I’m not Dr. Phil. But I couldn’t just let you make some bad decision and let the world lose one more hot piece of ass. Anyways, I live in the area and saw you standing on the ledge, and I thought I could maybe talk you down. Dying hurts, in case you were wondering. It’s not worth it.” Dying...hurts? Talk him down? Bad decision?

Oh.

“Oh.” Everything suddenly connected and the gears started turning in Peter’s brain. “No, wait, I wasn’t…” He didn’t quite know how to explain he wasn’t there to do that without completely explaining why he was up there in the first place. Any resolve he may have had earlier about revealing his superpowered persona had melted away, his plans going awry within seconds. "

Or Peter is madly in love with Wade, and plans to meet him on top of his apartment building to reveal his identity. Wade thinks Peter is standing on the ledge ready to jump, and takes it upon himself to make sure he gets home safe and finds a reason to live again.

When he's blackmailed by, of all people, a weird work acquaintance who needs Spider-Man gone for obviously illegal purposes, Peter is forced to hang up the suit- at least temporarily -until he can resolve the situation. Unfortunately, things start to get sticky when Deadpool, who Spider-Man's been on-again off-again with (okay, yeah, lowkey messing around with), crashes into Peter's life and demands the photographer help him figure out what's got his favorite webhead so spooked.

Peter's life is really weird.

I Think I Missed a Step ('Cause I'm Fallin' For You) by mokuyoubi (42k)

There’s a weird familiarity about the kid's tone and posture, and it’s true that Wade is pretty far from home today but he’s also certain he’d remember that baby-face if he’d seen it before. On the other hand, he has spent the better part of the past few years feeling like he’s missed a step, so this conversation isn’t exactly anything new.[[A hot guy is willingly talking to us. Go with it.]][Don’t make an ass of yourself.]“Shaddup,” Wade grumbles, though Yellow has a point...

OR Peter thinks Wade knows his secret identity, and Wade is really confused by the hot coed who keeps popping up and hanging out with him.

Peter Parker finds himself in a sticky situation and who should show up to rescue him but the infamous Deadpool? Now Peter feels indebted to the mercenary... And maybe weirdly charmed by him.

My Boyfriend's a Murder Bot by Fredegund (55k)

Wade Winston Wilson is ugly. His skin's inside out. It ripples and moves every second of every day, at constant war with the cancer. Vanessa put on a brave face for him when she first saw the changes, but it turns out even she can't stomach the sight for long. He's ugly and alone and nothing will ever be good in life again -

If only that were his only problem.

But Weapon X is at it again, under crisp new management, turning orphans into super slaves and bringing out the big guns to make sure nobody interferes this go around (namely one Pool comma Dead). So now, not only is Wade alone and ugly forever, but he's got a bit of a pest problem in the form of a black-clad murder-happy man spider with a collar around his neck and an unhealthy obsession with tying Deadpool up.

So maybe it's not all bad...

Paradise (spread out with a butter knife) by Sarah_Sandwich (72k)

He sighs from where he’s prone, arms akimbo, and roof gravel digging into his spine. “I lost my job. My… other job. The one that actually pays the bills.”

He doesn’t want to dwell on why he’s telling Deadpool of all people. Surely it has nothing to do with his desperate lack of friends. MJ is in California chasing her dreams, Harry’s undergoing treatment for his mental health and isn’t allowed visitors (not that it matters since they blacklisted Peter after last time), and Gwen… Well.

And it’s not like he can talk to Aunt May without her worrying about him starving to death under a bridge or something so… Deadpool it is. Man, when did his life get this pathetic?

OR: The one where Peter and Wade are literal soulmates but don't realize it for literal years because they're literal idiots.

Wherein Deadpool is reluctantly hired to protect Peter Parker from an organization out to hunt him, with varying success on both ends and quite a lot of feelings, revelations, and identity crises.

did you talk about your headcanons for the boys’ voices a while back or am i imagining that? i went searching through your tags but couldn’t find anything

i’ve talked about it a couple of times! i’m kind of terrible at voice casts. i do have very clear voices in my head that i hear when I’m writing them, but they’re not really based of any specific real-world example. 

considering 9319 peter was always kind of based off of andrew garfield, i’m happy to imagine him as the voice of peter - but really the voice i have in my head is a lot more nasal, a lot faster and a lot more ear-grating. his voice is annoying. straight up it’s why wade shuts him up constantly. his voice is unbearable. particularly his singing voice. 

he also falls into a heavy queens accent when he’s behind the mask. it’s insufferable. 

wade’s the opposite in that he doesn’t have any sort of accent at all when he’s in the mask. it’s very indiscernible. but when he takes his mask off and is feeling easy, he has a distinct rural canadian accent. 

his voice is deep, but very expressive. it has a rough rasp to it - think demi moore or bonnie tyler - scarred vocal chords. 

kind of like laryngitis - but really in my mind it’s more like the sound of a voice after you’ve been crying a whole lot. when your throat feels so, so tight. you know? very hoarse. like it’s a struggle to force it out. wade’s in constant pain, and you can hear it. 

still, peter likes it a whole lot. 

@bexalizard suggested this guy and it’s, it’s pretty spot on for the rasp and rural canadian accent, but i think wade is - surprisingly, a lot more soft-spoken.
