Shonichi files have now been added! <3
Tumblr media
Musical Touken Ranbu: Kousui Sanka No Yuki (Snow like Falling Blossoms by the Water) english sub
A bit later than I’d planned, but still plenty in time! Toumyu’s take on Yamanbagiri is really interesting, and Ookanehira is so good~
Keep in mind that these are only the subtitle files, timed and tled to the DMM senshuuraku and shonichi (first day) respectively. The archive version will have a talk at the start, so the starting times of the subs will have to be delayed accordingly. If your video shows Koryuu in colour, rather than in all black (his actor had a body stand-in due to injury while he himself provided the voice) you’ll want the shonichi version.
Senshuuraku: Download the subs for kousui senshuuraku here!
As for the BD/DVD version of the subs, you can find that one right here!
Shonichi: Download the subs for kousui shonichi here!
As for the BD/DVD story and live parts of the shonichi subs, you can find those right here!

Hey everyone! Water here! 💙💛 It might be a bit of an unusual post, but there's been a few folks who have asked if I have a ko-fi or the likes, or have otherwise said they would have liked to have supported me monetarily one way or another. While this is obviously my hobby rather than my job, and my subtitles will forever remain free, I don't think there's anyone who wouldn't accept a gesture of gratitude in the form of a penny or a dime if offered so, especially for something they put time and work in. (And some money but that doesn't count since I'd have bought the myus in question anyway, haha).
So I have! opened a ko-fi! ✨
Its main purpose, though, will be giving those who wish to give generic monetary tips/thank-yous a way to do so 🥺. I won't be taking outright commissions for for example shonichis, as detailed in the blog post on that page, because of my turnaround time (more than months) and, well, the tightrope that these kinds of things naturally walk on. However, what I can do is set up a Queue!
I have a set schedule of Main Myus, that won't be influenced by anything other than current events and my own whims. However, I also have a bunch of Side Projects of various sizes (shonichis, other performances of multi-day streams, non-toumyu works like Toukabu, Kiden, or Tenimyu, etc.) that I could bump up based on interest!
So what I can do is the following: I'll make a Tumblr post with my current projected Queue of Main Myus and Side Projects. If you wish to tip/sponsor me, and in it you mention looking forward to a certain Main Myu or Side Project/would've otherwise have liked commissioning me for it, I'll put an exclamation mark ! next to the title! Based on those exclamation marks ! , in other words, based on interest, I'll move the Side Projects up or down in their respective queues, or add them to the list of projects I plan to soon ('soon') be working on.
It'll be a slower system than direct commissions, since Main Myus will still take precedence and those also take months to do properly. It will be more akin to weighted suggestions, and with the amount of Side Projects I have I might have to put some projects on hold at times, so please don't tip with a "looking forward to" if you wouldn't have tipped otherwise!
And, I hope this speaks for itself, but my askbox on Tumblr here will keep on being my main means of communication, and will obviously stay open for those who prefer to give thanks with words rather than with coins! I, very simply put, enjoy it when people tell me my subs have helped them enjoy a work 🥺

Hi! Thank you so much for your work on subbing the toumyus! Idk if it's been asked before, but are you open to the idea of taking subtitling commissions? Not necessarily for new musicals, but maybe for musicals you've already subbed but a different version (ex. first days)? I completely understand if not and you'd prefer to keep it as a hobby/ something you do in your free time/ own pace without the pressure though. Thanks again for your hard work, and have a good day/ night!!
Oh, I also forgot to ask: do you happen to have a Ko-fi or something similar? I would love to give you a donation for all the hard work you've done so far as a way of support!
Ooh, subtitling commissions! Let's see... Pressure is not an issue at all! And I doubt there's anyone who wouldn't be grateful to receive a penny for their time, even if it's done as a hobby...
Regardless of commissions, I think I can get a ko-fi set up in all cases! 🥺 There's been a few other super kind folks who have asked me something similar, and I feel kind of bad that I've had to tell them no each time😭 I'll see what I can do!
I do have a set schedule that wouldn't be very wise to change (the main musicals, toukabu, and the likes) but I do take up smaller projects like first days in between those! Thing is that with proper subs taking months to do right, on top of having a set main queue (which might even change based on releases), I probably wouldn't have a very favourable turnabout time...
However, as a sort of alternative to direct commissions, I could potentially give those side projects a higher priority based on interest? For example, if many people shoot me a coffee saying they hope to see or might have otherwise commissioned me for, say, kousui shonichi, I could bump that one up in my side projects queue? I'll probably make a proper transparent queue post with some sort of coffee counter per project in that case! If that's something that sounds like a reasonable midway, at least!

hello! just wanted to start off by thanking you for your wonderful subtitling work, it is very enjoyable to me that you have such a deep connection with how you view toumyu’s portrayals! i’ve recently been rewatching some using your TLs so it’s been very fun re-experiencing!
my question comes from a passing ask that you’ve answered, is there a reason why you have a preference for working with final day stages rather than first days? i was looking forward to using your potential subs for hanakage but only have access to the shonichi, not a deal breaker but i was still curious! thank you for your time and hope your days are well!
Hi!!! I'm super happy to hear you've gotten new things out of re-experiencing myus with my subs! 🥺 Toumyu (esp Tsuwa) is something dear to me, and it brings me no greater joy than to be able to help people enjoy it in turn!
I have a preference for working with final day stages, as those are the ones that tend to end up getting an archive version on DMM and end up on the bluray or dvd. So it's, honestly, purely out of efficiency! As extra reason for why I don't have separate extra first day stream subtitle files, retiming a sub from start to finish (which I'd need to do to make both a first day and last day version) is a lot more work than shifting the times (and sometimes the resolution) by a set amount of seconds (as I'd need to do for for example the bluray). I would rather bring everyone a new sub earlier than to rerelease an 'older' one for a different stream!
I hope that answers your question! 💪✨

Musical Touken Ranbu: Tsuwamonodomo ga Yume no Ato english sub
A passion project if there's ever been one, it's been a longstanding want of mine to finally do this! Needless to say, Tsuwamono and everything it meant is still my favourite plot from Toumyu! I love its character-driven and intricate writing, its heartrending acting choices, as well as the way it invites one to think about what characters think and why, and why they do or don't (dare to) do the things they do.
However, another important reason that I'm letting myself indulge in this, is that recent Toumyu has taken a turn away from this plot, changing the way how Mikazuki is framed, tying different characters to themes that were tied to Kogitsunemaru, and put those characters into roles that would originally have been most natural for Kogitsunemaru to follow.
In that light, then, I hope that these subtitles will allow you to see, even if it's just the smallest sliver, what I loved in Toumyu's take of Kogi and Mika up to and including Kotobuki. To see that it was beautiful. Because I think it was. 💙💛🌙🦊
Keep in mind that the files in the folder below are only the subtitle files, timed and tled to the blu-ray and DMM senshuuraku distribution. The folder also includes a pdf with translation notes, some background information where I felt it would add, and just a little bit of eager gushing about the references made.
You can find the folder with all the aforementioned files here!
Please enjoy, even if it's just with me in your thoughts.
#touken ranbu#tsuwamonodomo ga yume no ato#toumyu#Water's translations#tsuwamono#Kogitsunemaru#Mikazuki Munechika#we're joining with sute's timeline in which Kogi (may as well have) never existed hahahaha (pain)#but let's put that aside and enjoy Tsuwamono for the beauty it is#I love tsuwamono and translating it has only made me love it more#the references to Kokaji in the starting song were much more intricate than I expected#and I believe the way Basho's haikus are incorporated is smart!#the many things Tsuwamono slyly implies about its worldbuilding are so so so so nice#and also the question of what it means to exist and to be remembered!#that things are never black and white and that even the people you fear may be hurt or will not understand may be different from how you se#and that (I think this is very nice about tsuwa) people make mistakes and make *choices* and that that's what makes them human#I very gently gesture at Mikazuki#I love how he's characterised and how Kuroba conveys that characterisation#He envies shadows and betrays his own advice and cannot lay the finishing blow#he forces smiles. His kindness sways his heart again and again to stab himself with it. He fights a futile battle. He tries anyway.#He lies- He fears- He doesn't speak-- in understandable fear of the devastation he may cause if his words reached the ears of those he love#He would rather risk breaking.#Mikazuki is such a complex and deafeningly HUMAN character and I love that painfully kind and undeniably human portrayal of him so much#and though a certain contrast with Mikazuki is a vital part of the way Kogitsunemaru enters the paintwork here it is ultimately the fact#that he was never black and white- that he ever sees the bigger picture ironically just as Mika said- that allows him to understand#even if with his own personal feelings and his discipline he can't follow the same road#this in deep contrast to Hizamaru- who would not even have hesitated or felt reluctant or even had to battle his feelings had he found out#and I think the relief of having someone dear to confide in- that's emphasized twice with Iwa in the myu- in the form of Kogi#is something that (up to TKO) would and should have meant the world to Mikazuki#that his unwillingness to follow the same path could much too naturally still have meant he could have supported Mikazuki in other ways

Musical Touken Ranbu: Gou on Stage ~ Satomi Hakkenden; New Edition english sub
At long long last I am able to present you the subtitles for the senshuuraku of Goumyu! After a very turbulent year, I'm glad to be lowkey picking up subtitling again. For this performance, though, I won't be able to do a tl notes file. If I were fair to myself, I'd allow myself to write my grievances with what Goumyu's plot does to what had been established for Kogitsunemaru and Mikazuki when those are relevant, but if I were fair to you all, I wouldn't give you a file that's 90% complaining and 10% actual notes or background.
Don't let my grievances distract from the performance though, it's still genuinely fantastic even if the theming choices may be painful to me. Especially Oodenta is fantastic. Goodness gracious.
Keep in mind that this is only the subtitle file, timed and tled to the DMM senshuuraku. The archive version will have a talk at the start, so the starting times of the subs will have to be delayed accordingly.
Download the subs for Goumyu here!

Hello! The subs for the Best Games Fuji vs Kirihara seem to be corrupted. I don't know if it's me but I tried it on my laptop and phone and it says the same thing.
Hi! They seem to work fine on my end, even after redownloading... Could it perhaps be your video file that is corrupted? My subtitles files are only the files for the subtitles themselves, they still need to be added to a video file.

While I'm glad Mikazuki is back I am NOT happy about the cast because with Tsuru Sui and Ookanehira ig there it's very clear we're going to have a Mikazuki-centric musical, maybe even the very last of those. And they decided not to have Kogitsunemaru there. I'm gutted. Bare heart stomped by muddied boots. This sucks.

Toumyu Hanakoyomi 8&9
For something different from usual (no fancy picture because the Hanakoyomi is a drama cd and so doesn't have one), I'd like to give you all the 8th and 9th Hanakoyomi episodes! It's not very likely I'll be posting the rest of the Hanakoyomis, as it's very likely the episodes will be released on CD and I'd like to prevent folks substituting the tls for the actual episodes ^^;
The choice of Hanakoyomis is not at all because I'm biased noooo
Hanakoyomi 8 - Higanbana featuring Minamoto Kiyomaro, Nagasone Kotetsu, Kogitsunemaru, Suishinshi Masahide, Hachisuka Kotetsu
Hanakoyomi 9 - Cosmos featuring Onimaru Kunitsuna, Daihannya Nagamitsu, Kogitsunemaru, Tomoegata Naginata, Heshikiri Hasebe

No questions. Just wanted to say thank you so much for doing TouMyu subs! I hope you have a great week. Would be glad to help time subs if you ever need it!
Waaa, thank you! I'm glad you enjoy them!! I'll make it a week that counts! 💪✨
Unfortunately, timing subs for me is the same as proofreading my own subtitles, so while I really appreciate the offer I'm afraid it's part of my workflow ;-;

kousui sanka no yuuki sub timing is all over the place. i cant even sync it properly. your timing is really messed up please fix it
Incredibly sorry to say this, but if your Koryuu is coloured instead of clad in all black, you probably have the wrong version! There are two streams of kousui available on DMM, one of the shonichi (first day) and one of the senshuuraku (final day). This is because Koryuu's actor got injured mid-run, and a body-double stands in for him during the senshuuraku (final day). My subs are for the senshuuraku (final day) where Koryuu is clad in black. As of now, I don't have subs for the shonichi (first day), since I normally only do senshuuraku (final day) subs. Hope that helps!

Connecting the scattered stars, I was looking for a constellation I hadn't seen yet It didn't go as I'd hoped There was no answer for me there, either But I want to see the tomorrow I'll walk with you So reach out your hand
Endless Night, painting the night Endless Night, are our stars Facing the morn over and over again, We will go once more Precious Night, but right now, Softly leaving myself to the night breeze, I want to be enveloped by the soundless starry sky
The endless night softly envelops us and becomes full If I can feel you, our hearts will become one Forever Forever
Can I stay by your side? / May I stay by your side?
Endless Night, painting the night Endless Night, are our stars Facing the morn over and over again, We will go once more Precious Night, but right now, Softly leaving myself to the night breeze, I want to be enveloped by the soundless starry sky
Tonight, forever, by your side
