can i get a reminder if there’s any rules for weirdgirl submissions?
i was going to include them on the post i just made but then decided not to lmfao... they'll be on the post for the google form announcement, but i did just write them up so i'll copypaste them here just for you <3
All weirdgirls must be minors! If the character has no confirmed age, use your best judgment.
Only one weirdgirl per piece of media can make it into the final bracket! You may submit as many as you like during the bracket creation process, though.
Media that is banned from the showdown includes Harry Potter and Homestuck. The mod reminds you that they reserve the right to exclude this media. Please respect this decision.
Prior winners are ineligible to be entered, so Lilo Pelekai from Lilo and Stitch, our winner last year, won't be included! She remains our very cute icon until the end of the second competition, though.
Please have fun!! I hope we can make this showdown even better than the first one!!!

Poll runners, we've all seen time and time again people say in the notes stuff like "why are you pitting X and Y/two bad bitches/etc against each other???" or "how dare you make me chose?"?

i was going to reblog the most recent announcement by the schrodinger's gender mod, but after reading through the post i've decided not to do that, because it's full of defense and explanation that feels very unneeded and makes the apology portion feel far less sincere than it could have. however, since i posted about my problems with the tournament here, i think it's only fair that i also acknowledge that the mod is no longer ignoring people's concerns and has ended the tournament. i won't be posting about the blog again

sorry, i've just now read through the post more closely.

i retract my earlier statement, i'm not going to stop talking about this. not only was there not an apology for this behavior, but excuses are being made? i'll repeat what i said last time and ask that nobody harasses the mod, but this is unacceptable to me. do better.

the only bracket that can get away with allowing every single submission imo is the irl cats bracket. everyone else needs to vet their shit

Honestly the gender bracket could’ve done a much better job vetting the submissions rather then just putting everyone in, like their hands were not tied
Not to mention one of the propoganda that was added to the post of that character said “a good chunk of the fandom uses he/him for them”. On a character that uses exclusively they/them and the creator has corrected misgendering of that character. Like even if that’s true Seems kinda :/ to use misgendering as propoganda….
agreed on vetting the submissions, it takes only a few moments to google the character and find out if they're canonically transgender, etc. if there's too many characters to research all of them, then narrow the bracket down to 32 or even 64, you know? it's that easy
and yes, the misgendering-as-propaganda is something i saw specifically with i think frisk from undertale and it was very :/ to see. there's a stunning lack of respect here for a tournament that seems like it's meant to be about gender positivity

It’s really sucky that schrodinger’s gender just. Seems to ignore the majority of concerns people come to them with about their lack of discernment with the characters included. Like I understand being uncomfortable with being faced with “hey you did something less then ideal” but refusing to own up to it seems worse
it's very telling that they'll make a big apology about spelling a character's name wrong and promise a rematch to be fair, and then ignore people's concerns about an actual serious problem. the reason i chose to post about them in the first place is that i noticed they've turned off replies for every post after the belos poll, which comes off as a blatant attempt to avoid criticism

this is unfortunately true. honestly at this point i'd just block the blog altogether
i've seen people talking about it, but none of the posts are getting much traction, so i'd like to say something here where i have a bit of a wider audience
i'm seeing that the schrodinger's gender bracket [the one that everyone was clowning on for including emperor belos from the owl house] includes a lot of characters who are canonical transgender women [gwen stacy from spiderverse] or just transmisogynistic caricatures [chihiro fujisaki from danganronpa] and honestly i find it really disgusting that they're being either misgendered [in the first case] or praised [in the second] by their inclusion in the tournament. from the sheer amount of characters included it seems like this probably wasn't done out of intentional malice, rather just including every submitted character, but if that's the case it's an extremely irresponsible way to run a bracket. irresponsible at best and intentionally transmisogynistic at worst. from mod to mod, you should not have done this.
please don't harass this mod, by the way. instead, if you're ever considering running a tournament of your own, i'm begging you to do what they didn't and be responsible with the characters you choose to include, especially if the poll is about any kind of marginalized demographic. thanks goodnight

I’m curious as to why you consider Gwen Stacy in Spider-Verse canonically trans, as that was not explicitly stated in the movie or by the creators to my knowledge. I’m not arguing against her being trans, just wonder why the choice of words was that.
it's generally agreed upon that gwen is a trans girl due to her narrative so closely mirroring being lgbt and her having a 'save trans kids' flag in her room, but i probably shouldn't have specifically called it canon. it's still at the point where almost everyone agrees that she's transfem, so putting her in a schrodinger's gender tournament is generally in bad taste
to note though, i took a quick scroll through the list of included characters, and there are MULTIPLE canon trans women in the tournament, so my point stands even if a different one would have been better to use as an example

I’ve messaged them a few telling them including certain characters (like canon binary trans characters) was inherently transphobic and they just ignored me so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
honestly one of the main reasons i decided to talk about the blog here was because the mod turned off reblogs and replies on the belos post instead of acknowledging that it was a bad idea to put a colonizer in their gender bracket, so... yeah, i'm not surprised unfortunately
