I'm literally so shocked at how uninformed some people are while acting like they know everything.

Like for example, people claiming taylor should have simply purchased her masters and she's only doing this for drama/album promo.

When she announced that shes with a new label she even said how important it is to her to own her masters.

And even though she must have been filled with frustration, she chose to be classy and thank sc*tt in her letter..

Taylor doesnt enforce unnecessary drama, she stayed silent for all these years.

But truly, she doesnt love the drama, it simply loves her.

And that just what it was greed! No matter how he tries to spin this to make himself look better it is clear to see the greed and selfish motives. While it may not have been a straight forward no it was a manipulative, conditional yes that would have left her trapped, basically owned by whoever he decided to sell out to. 

It’s obvious why Scott didn’t let Taylor buy back her music. Because without Taylor’s brand, he couldn’t have gotten neeearrrly as much 💰 as he did for Big Machine. You KNOW @taylorswift was there, asking to buy her catalog, and he told her no for his own corporate greed.

So if any of you know who JoJo is, she did Too Little Too Late and Leave (get out) back in the day. Ever wonder why you didn’t hear from her again after those smash hits? She had a similar issue with her old label. She was absolutely taken advantage of as a young teen in the industry and as she grew up, she couldn’t get out of her contract and fought HARD to get the rights to her music. She couldn’t perform half her disography or even let it be on Spotify to be streamed bc the label wouldn’t give it up. It took a lot of time away from her being able to actually release music again.

It was a 10 year fight.

She released a new album in 2016 on a new label and in 2018 she re-released every song and both albums she had on that old label. Thus, giving her the masters to those songs again.

Im not saying this is the same situation for Taylor but if this fight is even remotely similar she’s got a big fight ahead of her. We need to be as supportive as possible in this. No artist should be taken advantage of like this.

But I guess maybe I should say thank you for giving me a reason to be more grateful for my record/cd player, giving me one more reason to use it over other options, and giving me a chance to live up to my blogs name: wherevintagemeetsmodern. 

Honestly, this whole this is crap. No matter how you try and spin this, sc*tt and Sc**ter, to make yourselves look better, you know that you will always and forever have a lot of people who will look at you in a bad light. You might have the masters but you don’t have the loyalty of the fans that have made those masters monetarily valuable. If we don’t want you to make money off of them we are as smart and savvy as Taylor two figure out was to make sure you don’t. Trying to make her look like the villain in this story when you are the ones that treated her like a pile of cash isn’t a good look. It’s just not.

Artists are the rightful owners of their own work; Scott Borchetta and Scooter Braun are vile filth of human beings and I’m disgusted that we live in a world where a misogynistic industry can and will eagerly profit off of the hard work and creativity of women.

Taylor, we’re all going to figure out a way to get you your masters back- Please 🙏🏻 keep on coming into our lives with your music and keep that chin up, darlin’ 💕 We’re in this with you and our hearts break when yours does and rejoice in your happiness. Every headline right now says something along the lines of "Taylor Swift calls out Scooter Braun" or "Taylor Swift feuds with Justin Bieber" but where are all the headlines that say "Taylor Swift stands up for an artist's right to own their work" ???? That's what the post was about!! It's not a feud, it's about greedy men profiting off of vulnerable girls and it's never going to stop if every media outlet is trying to turn this into a petty feud.

For years I asked, pleaded for a chance to own my work. Instead I was given an opportunity to sign back up to Big Machine Records and ‘earn’ one album back at a time, one for every new one I turned in. I walked away because I knew once I signed that contract, Scott Borchetta would sell the label, thereby selling me and my future. I had to make the excruciating choice to leave behind my past. Music I wrote on my bedroom floor and videos I dreamed up and paid for from the money I earned playing in bars, then clubs, then arenas, then stadiums. 

Some fun facts about today’s news: I learned about Scooter Braun’s purchase of my masters as it was announced to the world. All I could think about was the incessant, manipulative bullying I’ve received at his hands for years. 

Like when Kim Kardashian orchestrated an illegally recorded snippet of a phone call to be leaked and then Scooter got his two clients together to bully me online about it. (See photo) Or when his client, Kanye West, organized a revenge porn music video which strips my body naked. Now Scooter has stripped me of my life’s work, that I wasn’t given an opportunity to buy. Essentially, my musical legacy is about to lie in the hands of someone who tried to dismantle it.

This is my worst case scenario. This is what happens when you sign a deal at fifteen to someone for whom the term ‘loyalty’ is clearly just a contractual concept. And when that man says ‘Music has value’, he means its value is beholden to men who had no part in creating it. 

When I left my masters in Scott’s hands, I made peace with the fact that eventually he would sell them. Never in my worst nightmares did I imagine the buyer would be Scooter. Any time Scott Borchetta has heard the words ‘Scooter Braun’ escape my lips, it was when I was either crying or trying not to. He knew what he was doing; they both did. Controlling a woman who didn’t want to be associated with them. In perpetuity. That means forever. 

Thankfully, I am now signed to a label that believes I should own anything I create. Thankfully, I left my past in Scott’s hands and not my future. And hopefully, young artists or kids with musical dreams will read this and learn about how to better protect themselves in a negotiation. You deserve to own the art you make.

I will always be proud of my past work. But for a healthier option, Lover will be out August 23.

The other character I was Wendy from Peter Pan because of the color of the dress. I believe the dress is from the late 60’s early 70’s but I am not 100% sure. “Just leave it to me, what a gown this will be!” ~ Fairy Godmother ✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨ For my hair I was trying to channel Hedy Lamarr’s hair from this picture (➡️ 3rd picture). I felt like this hair just worked really well with a Fairy Godmother themed outfit. I don’t have a bunch of star dancing around my head but I did have the silver colored braided head band that I used as a small tiara. 👸 These photos were taken about 8 hours after I brushed out my hair. @taylorswift  isn’t the only massive artist that has had their art taken away from them, not given the opportunity to buy the rights, and/or had to fight for them. https://fortune.com/2016/03/21/paul-mccartney-beatles-songs/ is an article from 2016 about Paul McCartney fighting to buy back his songs from his days as a part of the Beatles. https://www.billboard.com/articles/columns/rock/7662519/beatles-catalog-paul-mccartney-brief-history-ownership Here is a timeline from 2017 as of the history as to who owns the rights to their songs. 

While it is clear that Taylor and the Beatles are in classes of success all to their own, they have one thing in common. They are artists that achieved massive amounts of success, far passing what was anticipated by those that signed them. If large artists are not able to buy back their work when they have to go to court in order to have a chance at owning their work that shows how greedy the industry is and how little they care for the artists when they aren’t recording with them anymore.

In a time when women have been told, whenever we express our emotions, that we are too dramatic you stood up for yourself and showed others that they are not alone. YOU HAVE ALL THE LOVE AND THE SUPPORT OF YOUR SWIFTIES!!! 2019 will not be like 2016, we will make sure of that! we got your back 100% because this is not okay. You make the heartbreaking decision to leave your past work to ensure that your future would be owned by you when you saw a trap. This shows that you are savvy, smart, and aware of everything that is happening, which is something I think they have underestimated about you.
