HEY CALIFORNIA PEOPLE!
HURRICANE ADVICE FROM A FLORIDIAN!
Make sure you've got shelf-stable food and water for everyone in the house, including pets. The rule of thumb is a gallon per person per day. Freeze water bottles if you want cold water.
Make sure you have enough meds!
Make sure you have batteries, candles, flashlights, and a manual can opener.
Make sure your electronics, including backup batteries, are charged. Unplug things you don't want fried in case of a power surge.
Don't tape your windows, it doesn't help and you'll just be stuck scrubbing goo off of them later.
Put a mug of frozen water in it in your freezer with a quarter on top of it. If your freezer defrosts, the ice will melt and the quarter will sink and tell you you need to throw things out.
Get everything that's not nailed to a foundation out of your yard. That dead branch hanging on by a thread? Time to get it down (it was probably time to do that three days ago, but now’s better than never).
Park away from powerlines and trees if you can. Rain makes the ground soft and then trees fall over.
Have an evacuation plan to a shelter. Evacuate if they’re telling you to.
If you start to flood, don't go in your attic. You'll get trapped if the water rises too high and you can't hack through your roof. This happened to a lot of people in Texas and Louisiana. Get ON the roof.
Be safe, be well <3

I think the earlier newcomers learn that Wicca is one branch of witchcraft and not the whole of witchcraft the better.

I generally mention this any time I bring up Stephen Mitchell's Witchcraft and Magic in the Nordic Middle Ages because Penn Press does sales on a surprisingly frequent basis, now being one of those times. This link should go to the search results for "Norse", which should bring up the aforementioned book along with Thomas DuBois' Nordic Religions in the Viking Age and a few other titles, but either of those comes out to about 16 USD for those of you who prefer physical media
also the whole site's on sale so obviously others may have interest

being hot isn’t about physical appearance or confidence or whatever. being hot is about being a WITCH FROM SLAVIC FOLKLORE, living in a HUT THAT STANDS ON CHICKEN LEGS, making HUMAN SOUP, and being completely and utterly MORALLY AMBIGUOUS

I start a new job today, and my daily draw seems extremely appropriate to it.
Deck: the Welcome to Night Vale tarot
Card: Ace of Pentacles
The Ace of Pentacles indicates a new beginning and new opportunities ahead. Whether for good or ill, however, can only be decided by the steps you take going forward.
Given the turbulence of my life for the past 2 months, I'm taking this as encouragement to embrace the new opportunity I've found for myself, one that will let me be more financially stable and hopefully healthier as well.

Today's daily draw felt like two cards today.
Deck: The Crow Tarot, created by MJ Cullinane
Cards: the 5 of swords and The Fool
The last several months, and in particular the last month and a half, have been a source of struggle and conflict for me. I have come through the conflict, analyzing my scars, but also looking forward to a new beginning and a new chapter of my life

I haven't done a daily draw in quite some time. Today, I'm using the Runic Tarot, a gift from a friend.
Here, you see Loki, God of fire, ice, mischief, and chaos, watching over a man with a bow drill fire starter.
The rune pictured on the middle of the card is Nauthiz.

Books That Have Aided Me in the Development of My Craft, & a Reading List
I have to resist foundering in a ‘research and development’ stage in my practice & becoming more of an armchair witch than a practitioner. Do you struggle with that too? That said, I’ve read some amazing books that have in one or way or another helped me become a better witch and helped me do the foundational work we all have to do on our individual paths. Here are some of those, followed by a few I’m planning on reading as soon as I can get my hands on them. Have you read these? What’re your thoughts? I’d love to hear them :) And also, do you feel you sometimes get stuck or intimidated or overwhelmed with all the things we witches can do and be and become? I definitely do, and my resolution for the year is not to read and think less but to DO more.

Elder Futhark Pages Masterpost
I recently finally finished my personal study series on the Elder Futhark runes and wanted to make a quick and easy masterpost to track them down because, as we all know, tumblr’s tagging system is absolute trash.
Tumblr media
— Introduction Page —
Tumblr media
— First Ætt —
Fehu     Uruz     Thurisaz     Ansuz     Raidho     Kaunan     Gebo     Wunjo
Tumblr media
— Second Ætt —
Hagalaz     Nauðiz     Isaz     Jera     Eihwaz     Pertho     Algiz     Sowilo
Tumblr media
— Third Ætt —
Tiwaz     Berkanan     Ehwaz     Mannaz     Laguz     Ingwaz     Dagaz     Othala
So what’s next in regards to this? Well, there’s still a lot to learn about just the Elder Futhark, alone—I’ve only scratched the surface with these. I’d like to slowly digitize all of these and have a file that I can adjust and add more information fluidly as I learn it. I’d also like to study the other runic alphabets—particularly the Younger Futhark and the Anglo-Saxon Futhorc—, since I know that, while the Elder Futhark is more well-known/popular today, it wasn’t as commonly used in the Viking Age as other runic alphabets. And while most historical runic alphabets seemed to fade from use as Latin and Christianity began to spread, there are runic alphabets that were still in use up into the 20th century.
So this project is done. Sort of. But you can still expect to see a lot more runes from me in the future. Skål!

You're very valid lol. My brother is not a good example of how to live life safely lol. The pool thing still stands though as a much safer alternative!
Whelp I got poison ivy on my ankle. Fucking hell. I was like wtf is this burn looking mark? Shit, was just digging up weeds around the tree and it has had poison ivy before! Wiped down with an alcohol pad, then rinsed with cold water, then hydrogen peroxide, then more water and soap and water, and then colloidal silver + aloe gel and bandaid. I really hope it doesn't spread. I washed my hands a bunch and haven't found any other spots yet. Anyone have poison ivy advice for sensitive skin?

This is gonna sound wild but dunk your ankle (maybe your leg to be safe) in a pool if you can? Chlorine bleach dries up the poison ivy sap while being relatively safe on your skin in an ultradiluted format. My siblings used to do this when they got exposed to poison ivy (I, being allergic to nature, avoided the outdoors and therefore this issue). Or, you could be an absolute mad lad like my brother and just... put pure chlorine bleach on your skin but I would SERIOUSLY advise against that-- he has the chemical burn scars 5 years later to show for it.
