Suddenly There's Sunlight All Around Me

When Penny hears that Quentin is going to die, he doesn't laugh or giggle like the aforementioned nerd did. He gets two thoughts that nearly knock him on his ass at his Dead Pod People desk.

The first, fate will let Quentin die like the hero he's always wanted to be.

The second, what the fuck, fuck this shit.

Since when does he wander around contentedly following the rules without asking questions? He sold his soul to be down in the Underworld Library in exchange for his friends getting to live and save the goddamn universe. Penny literally saw the way that the books were going to end because of Ember and he told Eliot to change that shit.

Quentin Coldwater is a whiny little bitch who lets his insecurities and depression cloud his judgment. But Penny gives a fuck about him doing something stupid as hell because he's possibly suicidal and doesn't get that he's the goddamn reason their 'found family' ever works.

And fuck the library, fuck Hades, fuck that chick who looks like Alice, and fuck Quentin for sucking at keeping his shit together when he's supposed to be the one steering the ship.

absolutely obsessed with this. quentin's put upon expression. the fact that he is the perfect height for being held to eliot's chest. the weird one armed hug because he's both miserable for outside reasons and possibly a little jealous? how he has to go up on his grumpy lil tippy toes for a kiss. eliot's absolute ease with embracing his friend/long term crush both romantically and like he is soothing a toddler for nap time. exquisite 10/10

"I'm going for a dip," Eliot announces as he rises from his chair. He looks over at the chair next to him and smiles lasciviously. "Join me?"

Brown eyes peeking out from over the top of his book, Eliot's sweet but disappointedly-dressed partner shakes his head. "Oh. Uh, no thanks. Maybe later?"

"Come on, Q," Eliot wihines. He waves his fingers to remove the book from Quentin's hands and straddles his lap. It would be so much sexier if they were both naked but it'll do for now. "We have this beach all to ourselves. Have some fun with me."

Clearing out the other people had been quick and easy – and humane, of course – since being a niffin doesn't mean behaving like a child monster who doesn't understand the meaning of self-care or restraint. Being reborn as a niffin in exchange for resurrecting Quentin perpetually proves to be worth the sacrifice of his mortal body. Minus the boring and needless guilt that Quentin still expresses over the ordeal.

"You died for me, so I died for you." That's how Eliot dismisses it every time they return to the subject.

Presently, Quentin folds. "I guess I can swim for a few minutes."
