Humans are adorable.
Supporting evidence:
1. Humans say ‘ow’, even if they haven’t actually been hurt. It’s just a thing they say when they think they might have been hurt, but aren’t sure yet.
2. Humans collect shiny things and decorate their bodies and nests with them. The shinier the better, although each individual has a unique taste for style and colouring
3. Humans are not an aquatic or even amphibious species, but they flock to bodies of water simply to play in it. They can’t even hold their breath all that long; they just love to splash!
4. When night falls and the sky goes dark, humans become drowsy and begin to cocoon themselves in soft, fluffy bedding.
5. Some humans spend time in each other’s nests! Just for fun! It’s not their nest; they’re just visiting each other.
6. Some humans use pigments and dyes to make their bodies flashy and colourful! They even attach shiny dangly bits to their cartalidgous membranes!
7. Humans are very clever, and sometimes adopt creatures from other species into their family units. They don’t seem to notice the obvious differences, and often raise them alongside their own young!
8. If a human sees another creature in distress, they can commonly be observed trying to help! Even at their own risk, most humans are deeply compassionate creatures!
9. If a human hears a particularity catchy sound or tune, it will often mimic it, even to the point of annoying themselves!
10. Sneezes are entirely involuntary, and completely adorable. Especially when the human in question becomes frustrated
11. Humans love treats!!! Some more than others. Many humans will save these treats specifically for a later date when they are in need of comfort or reassurance. IE, pickles, pop tarts, Popsicles, etc
12. They’re learning to travel in space!!! They can’t get very far, but they’re trying!!! So far, they’ve made it to the end of their yard, and have found rocks

Hatred is such a human trait. Non-sapient animals don't hate. Plants don't hate. The only being on Earth that feels hate is humans. By being a misanthrope, a person confirms that they themself are behaviourally and emotionally human - and thus, their misanthropy is inherently hatred of the self, though they often deny it. There's something to wrangle in that, isn't there?
How much misanthropy stems from a lack of self-compassion? From a lack of acceptance of the lives we all now lead? From a refusal to acknowledge, within themself, the complexity of all existence - the good and the bad in all things?
How much happiness does a person deny themself by giving into hate, and how much do they alienate themself from their nonhumanity by doing so?
Things to think about.
you love humans. good for you. you don't have to be shitty to misanthropes because of it, prick.
look, i get it. youve been hurt by humans, and feel the need to react defensively to them. believe me, i know. ive been hurt by humans too, again and again and again. its just a part of living. but you (general you directed at misanthropes, not just anon) need to get your shit together. being hurt doesnt excuse bad behaviour.
i wont change my mind, not about this. hating an entire species for the actions of a few is loser behaviour. sure, some of them are terrible. but many, many of them are innocent. think of children. think of your family, of your friends. think of that stranger you passed by at the supermarket who let you have the last jar of mayonnaise. think of the teacher you had in school who gave you stickers and snacks to make learning a bit more fun. think of the girl who gave you fun facts about animals as you waited to be called to the doctor.
look, im not forcing you to change your mind. thats just impossible, and im not your therapist. but please reconsider your bias. or at least, stop leaving anon asks on someones inbox calling them a prick out of nowhere.

It'll be interesting to see the results of this! I selected different / multiple.
My wolf theriotype is from a past life.
My spirit kintype is more complicated because I'm an incarnation. It's not a past life, and it's not a parallel or alternate life - it's past, present and future for me, in an immediate, "right here, right now" way.
I am, in the present, a nature spirit in the exact same way I was a nature spirit before this life, and in the exact way I will continue to be a nature spirit when this body wilts and fades.
So it's not really disconnected from this life at all. I am currently a nature spirit, with all that entails for me.
spiritual alterhumans
(i fucked up and needed to remake this poll, sorry) (also i again fucked up it should be walk in soul but alright...)

One "dangerous" thing about being a canine: whenever it clicks that there is, in my home, a room full of tasty food that I don't have to chase or hunt to be able to eat. How incredible is that? And I can just eat it! It's food and good and tasty! I should eat it!
Which leads to my sister coming across me at 2am eating the most random things just because. Not even "wolfish" things usually. It'll be like... ohh there's lettuce in here. Or today I ate so many grapes. I love food. Human food is so great. I love being able to digest so many things. <3

Hey you. Yeah, I mean you, alterhuman. You nonhuman. You creature hiding in a human skin. You being, you entity, under that human guise. You critter wearing that human outfit, you there with many true forms. You, the human, but just a little to the left. I'm talking to you.
I love you. You're super cool and I love you.

Not sure if it "counts" exactly, but I'm a nature spirit and a very weird one at that! But I'm not a ~species~, I'm a singular entity that just kinda came into existence of its own accord. So inherently rare because there's only one of me anyway. :P
But. come to think of it, spiritkin seem pretty rare in general! There's lots of angels, demons, deities, etc. from what I've seen, but few spirits.
I would love to hear about everyone’s “uncommon” kin/theriotypes!
A rare species? An uncommon breed? A super niche cryptid? I want to hear alllll about it!

I wish I could have a separate dashboard for when I just want to read about nonhuman stuff. Like right now. I'm a creature, I wanna read about my fellow creatures. Gods. Am I gonna have to go into the therian tag or something. 😭

This is an interesting question! Hmm. Not sure how to answer in my case because the instincts are still there, and they're not weaker at all, they're just... "under control", now? But not in a forced way. That's probably not the right way to describe it...
It's... actually, I think, that I feel more in tune now with my non-human self, and so when I think (and feel) "I don't want to chase that small animal", it's a thought that comes from all of me - wolf parts included!
I don't act on those instincts, not because I'm suppressing them, but because they no longer come from a part of me that's suppressed?
I'm actually having a hard time putting this into words!
I used to feel like my wolf self was a part of me that I had to fight against. There was human-me and wolf-me and sometimes these parts of me wanted different things - not in a plural way, just in an inner conflict kind of way.
Now, there's not human-me and wolf-me. There's just me: a wolf, who happens to be a person.
But yeah, the instincts are absolutely still there. Mostly, growing up as a therian has been a combination of learning to channel my destructive instincts in a healthy way, and learning to let myself embrace the benign ones wholeheartedly! ^u^
(Example of a benign one I find funny whenever I notice it: the way I will smell something nice or interesting, and immediately stick my nose in the air and take a few big, loud sniffs. One of those things that can get you weird looks, but nothing more, ahah).
This poll is NOT a measure of the validity of someone's identity, nor does it imply that nonhuman identity is something you can grow out of.
The context behind the poll is that I was much more "feral" as a child than I am now, and a lot of the instincts I had prior are just kinda non-existent. Which makes nonhuman identy less something I have to actively "battle with" (aside from the occassional dysphoria) and moreso something I can just chill out and go "hehe imma lizurb".
Once the timelimit's over, this poll can also probably give some comfort to younger people who are probably struggling with instinct stuff rn. While it's not guaranteed, there is a non-zero chance it'll mellow out. I'm also just curious how many have similar experiences

no, you don’t need to wear your mask/tail to school.
i wish young nonhumans didn’t feel compelled to be ‘out’ at school, especially when it’s a dangerous environment. i keep seeing posts along the lines of “wore my tail/mask to school! people berated/teased/put their hands on me, but it’s ok”.
no, it’s not.
like.. i understand a mask or a tail can be a very validating thing for some people. and i’m not saying NO ONE should wear them at schools. but i just keep watching this mounting trend of young therians insinuating you need some physical accessory or to do quads to be a ‘real’ nonhuman. and then it leads to things like this and it makes me incredibly sad.
i’d known i was alterhuman since late elementary school, actually. it’s a huge part of my life even now, years after graduation. there wasn’t a reason for it to be brought up, so i never did. it was a closely guarded secret to me, but it didn’t feel like a weight i was carrying. i always thought “no one needs to know i’m an animal if it jeopardizes my safety. so, oh well”.
“but, how will people know that i’m an animal?”
they probably will. they probably already do.
i was the designated ‘animal’ person my entire school career despite not ever handling animals in front of anyone. if there were pets, lost wild animals (baby rabbits, birds, lizards), or sometimes even loose livestock that got onto campus, it was always me who had to go tend to them.
everyone wanted me in their group in environmental science. if a project called for animal illustrations, the same thing would happen. it was certainly weird because i was also a ‘weird kid’ and not especially desired to be around outside of that, lol. but i was never harassed for it. it made me feel very validated, actually.
i had fun during gym running and fiercely destroying the opposing team in field hockey. i taught everyone which plants were okay to forage (and we snacked on them when we had to sit on the lower field for practice). every day i was hyperaware of the limbs i had that weren’t quite there. friends noticed my ears twitch and my nose wiggle at certain stimuli. i felt nice walking on two legs. i felt nice because i felt animal and i didn’t have to prove it to anyone.
really like… just do what makes you happy. i admire the bravery it takes to so earnestly wear your identity on your sleeve like that. that’s very impressive. however, there is NO obligation to do anything like that if you understand that there will be a reaction that poses a threat to you.
i want our kids to be safe, too. you don’t have to feel dysphoria over being discreet. sometimes it’s the safest option. and sometimes, that can be really fun, too.
study everything you can about your ‘type. wikipedia and animalia are good resources. ramble about them to anyone who will listen. jokingly refer to yourself as one in friend spaces. wear discreet clothes that remind you of your ‘type. find a nice private place outside where you can run and explore and look at plants and smell the air and feel like yourself. but by no means do you have to prove yourself. you know you.

The purpose of this survey is to collect data about the experiences of people who feel sensations of nonhuman body parts, for example, wings or a tail. Some call these supernumerary phantom limbs, phantom shifts, otherlimbs, or astral limbs, though you may have other preferences for the words you use for your own experiences. If you haven't had those experiences, you can participate in this survey too. This survey was made for people who call themselves otherkin, therianthrope, furry, or any other potentially alterhuman or nonhuman identity. If you don't describe yourself with any of those words, you can participate in this survey too.
The survey will take you about 6 to 15 minutes. Everyone age 18 and up is welcome to fill out the survey at the below link, until it closes on July 6, 2024:
Survey Link
Who is running this survey and why: The person running this survey is Orion Scribner (they/them), an otherkin/therianthrope who has been making projects about these communities since 2005. I will use the results in my panel at an Internet-based convention later this year (OtherCon 2024), and in other future research projects.

Thankfully none of the above, ahah! It was a petsite forum for me - the Chicken Smoothie forums. '^^ The community was surprisingly sensible. And from there I got directed to the kin forums of the era.

"Other", here!
For me, the experiences of being nonhuman came first - weird feelings, weird urges, weird dreams - and those were enough to make me question. I still remember the moment, it was so strange! It just clicked. Somehow, despite what I saw when I looked in the mirror, I wasn't human. I figured out I was a wolf before I ever heard of otherkin or therians.
I didn't understand it, of course. I alternated between thinking I was a real, legit werewolf that would turn into a beast when the moon was right, and thinking I was "crazy" (I now understand that mental illness doesn't work like that, but I was 14 at the time).
Finding out about therianthropy and otherkin was weird because I'd just run with the assumption that I was alone in this. But suddenly, I wasn't. It was strange, too, in its own way - but it was a profoundly huge relief to learn that I wasn't alone! And that what I experience is okay... it's not a bad thing. It's not unhealthy for me to be this way.
[*] Applicable to all nonhumans/alterhumans- otherkith, systems, voidpunk, etc.!
[**] Not when you found out about the terms. But when you first started to relate to things other than humans
My own experience (feel free to share your own in the comments/reblogs! id love to see it!):
Ever since I was young, I almost only consumed content about inhuman things. Robots, zombies, animals, nature… you name it. Warriors Cats, Transformers, My Little Pony, basically anything David Attenborough was in.
When I watched Pokemon as a kid; I didn’t want to be a trainer, I wanted to be a Pokemon. When I read about animals from the books in the library; I mimicked what they did, imagining myself as a cardinal flying through the trees or a serval stalking through the grasslands. A sundew curling around its prey, a werewolf’s painful transformation.
And well, I always had an active imagination. When I was in elementary school and preschool, you weren’t allowed to go back inside during recess if you were cold. So I just sorta taught myself how to perceive things differently! I could make my body warmer just by thinking of it. Then, later I could manifest the feeling of wings, animalistic legs, sharper teeth, horns… yeah.
This definitely led to where I am now. A both spiritual and psychological connection to who I am deep down. I am human, yes. But over a lifetime of being unable to relate to others led me to find kinship in unlikely places.

•Powwow of the Nonhuman, a Great Celebration of Indigenous Otherkind!•
•Many greetings to those who have laid their eyes upon these writings! I am very, very happy to announce a new community project I have been working on for the past month. Powwow of the Nonhuman is a digital celebration of indigenous peoples who identify as animals or non-human species! Those of us who are therians and otherkind who are indigenous have sadly been fragmented and unrepresnted in our respective communities. This event seeks to change that! We wish to celebrate the indigenous cultures, traditions, and ceremonies that some therians and otherkind are a part of!
<•>
•In my viewpoint, therians and otherkind who are both nonhuman identifying and indigenous have a special connection to the nature, medicine, and energy of our Mother Earth, Father Sky, and Great Creator. We have a connection to both the world of humanity and the world of the animal people and the plant people. We are essntially the animal and plant people living the human experience. We should embrace and love both our nonhuman experiences and our human culture.
<•>
•The powwow will be hosted digitally on the event's official website via the integrated video system. The powwow will consist of a pre-scheduled, refined and edited motion picture featuring individual and unique presentations of indigenous culture and otherkind experiences by our event presenters. There will be intermittent periods during panels and presentations where indigenous vendors can present their wares during the powwow. We are working on implementing a chat system on site so individuals who attend the powwow premier can interact and talk during the course of the event.
<•>
•Powwows are not only for indigenous peoples who originate from the continental Americas, we welcome all indigenous peoples from all areas of the world. This includes indigenous peoples with roots originating in Australia, Africa, Asia, The Middle East, and all island nations. All people of color are welcome to present at the powwow, whether they know where exactly their indigenous roots stem from or not.
<•>
•We need a few things to make this event happen. We need individuals who are capable of editing videos and audio since the powwow itself will be hosted on video and prescheduled. Editing a motion picture of this size will take a lot of effort, so we will need individuals who are committed to working on a project such as this. We need staff members to help with event organizing and planning. I will be doing much of the work, though I will not be able to run an event like this alone, I need some support from the indigenous community. Additionally, we need at least eight presenters for the event, not including staff members. Please help us to reach this minimum goal by boosting this post and spreading the word about the powwow!
<•>
•This event will cost my being hundreds of dollars to run and maintain. Please consider purchasing any of my artwork or anything from the powwow's official shop! Custom pieces like the one below, including the swirls and dots will cost around 65$ USD.
