afad2 and friends art is fun because every once in a while i get to look at a render and pick out every ms paint default color present

i want to see that thing older tournies would do where the musician directly repping their music would speak vaguely like a normal person just with a lyric reference in literally every sentence whether it made sense or not. that, but with a musician who doesn't exist. so all the dialogue still seems a little stilted & full of non sequiteurs but you just have to assume it's because there are memes you aren't aware of here

i casually wonder why so many tournaments stick to the one style of contestant stocks- no eyes, fairly flat colors, clear outline -when otherwise (especially in matters of ui) styles vary so much

#an exception i can think of is doatk and that's it #[originally this post was much more facetious and unsuccessfully so. but this is just what i think] #like did kfad seriously set this much of a precedent? am i artistically inexperienced enough to not know #that there aren't better ways of having stocks? #eh. or maybe stocks blend into the interface of tournaments really easily and i haven't noticed the exceptions

once upon a time the only competently relevant vocal pulls that people could easily find for about half their tournament's roster was parody/fan songs for the video games their contestant represented. and that's how we got to where we are now.

#i'm so glad we're not at that point with vgm reps any more #it's. legitimately it was one of the more offputting aspects of mashup tournaments a few years ago #for me #nowadays the only thing that's offputting is injokes where i least expect them but it's easy not to care when the music's this good #the more i learn my history the better i can respect the present

sourcelist wording experienced a gradual shift that- from its start forward -allowed the source "-songs featuring music" to exist, forcbly turned that into "-songs related to music", and then required "-music" not to exist all over again because no matter how anarchic shit gets none of us are allowed to do chair again

#just because i think my wording's a little unclear i know ''songs featuring music'' didn't Become ''songs related to music'' #this is about how individual sources get prefaced in sourcelists. like from mwc to mwm to modern/anarchy-influenced sourcelist styles

a short while back a friend asked me for my favorite source(s) & what i said at the time was that i can't exactly rank or express preference for a source on its own because i could just name like an artist or genre i really like or something super general that's got a lot of music i will like; it's all so relative, dependent on the balancing of the given setting, i can't give a straight answer. i still stand by that point but honestly. my favorite source is songs about instruments

how the hell do you make a 5 point sourcelist

#maybe it helps to have a particularly complex source you're working with #e.g. the layers of mystery slash bullshit that go into blindfad buffing #but ehh people seem to have developed the unique skill of taking damn near anything & giving it five bullet points of source #fairly sized sources too no real cop-outs to be found. do i just need to keep at it #i've been around tourneys & sources for a fuckin' while man how much does it take

i want to give a massive shoutout to a tourney track that would easily be one of my very favorites for its simple yet effective source choices, feature of original sound effects, and beautiful melodic blending, were it not for the inclusion of extremely regular & loud scribbling sounds that hit my sensory issues like a sniper rifle.
