𝙈𝘼𝙍𝘾𝙊 𝙍𝙀𝙔𝙀𝙎:
About two hours after the event had started , Marco finally decided to finally show his face . Sunglasses on as he dragged his feet past event staff with a throbbing headache from one ( or six … okay , maybe seven ) too many drinks from the night before pressed against his temple . Weaving his way through the crowded kitchen , he grabbed a bottle of ibuprofen from the building medkit that was definitely used by 90% used by him alone . Just as Marco turned to grab himself a cup of coffee , he caught sight of Hector , his assistant manager speaking to the sous-chef . In a swift movement , Marco grabbed a catering tray and used it to hide his face from the guy who was all too eager to find yet another reason to file a complaint against him . That coffee was just going to have to wait until later .
As soon as he was out of a kitchen , he sighed a breath of relief . Ready to just hide out in his office for the rest of the day until he was approached by a very well dressed young woman that screamed “ I own 51% of this company ! ” . Then she introduced herself and his stomach dropped . Córcega ? Oh fuck . Marco quickly flipped his sunglasses up , suddenly acutely aware of his all to casual winkled attire in comparison to her . “ Ms. Córcega , mucho gusto . ” he greeted with an extended hand , though her closed off stance had him awkwardly pulling back . “ But , uh , yes . Yes , of course , I was just about to head into my office . ” He said, pointing motioning behind her before taking a step to open the door for her . “ I didn’t realize we’d have the honor of expecting you here with us today . ” he said , trying his best to hide the anxiety that was brewing inside him . This was it . Hector had been gunning for him ever since he was looked over for that promotion and now that little shit was going to get the last laugh . “ Can I just say , if this is about the broken nose on the entrance statue, it was like that when I got here – they told me it was an artistic choice . ”

If there wasn’t a cloud of tension hanging on her shoulders, Yolotl would be almost sympathetic for the misshaped man in front of her. He looked miserable, even before finding out who she was. Perhaps if she were another type of woman raised by a different set of parents who had planted the seed of compassion in her, the businesswoman would question herself and her motives to be guided to the man’s office— yet all she could do was follow along, nodding amicably as he opened the door for her. “I’m very hands-on when it comes to business and it was the perfect event to start off the summer. Every event is important to create connections with your costumers and to attract potential new ones” she explained, looking around the office. As far as she could tell, there was no trace of Gabriel Córcega in the office, no answers to the million questions running wild through her head; not only was the man in front of her completely oblivious of her existence but he was too, oblivious of his very own in a sort of way. As the man spoke again, Yolo turned around to face him, puzzled for a second, before grinning to herself. “Well they are not wrong. The artist got drunk two days before delivering the statue and accidentally broke the nose, then made me tell everyone it was a premeditated plan and social commentary on plastic surgery— it’s not about that” the youngest proclaimed, once again getting distracted by the details on the office as she gathered her thoughts.
“My father” the brunette paused, internally questioning herself if she could trust the man with the information regarding her father’s whereabouts. On paper and on the eyes of Gabriel Córcega, they were siblings and she had every right to entrust him with the mess the man had left behind. However, the brunette had to think ahead, if not for the legacy of the Córcega brand, for the hundreds if not thousands of people who worked with the Córcegas. The businesswoman exhaled “He left me in charge of the company, due to his health being in jeopardy” which was half the truth. The brunette considered listing her credentials, assure the other she was more than qualified to handle the workload— then decided against it. “I’ve been going through and meeting most of my staff, even if I already knew the vast majority of them” she pointed out, resting her weight on the desk. “And that’s how I learned about you. Córcega’s best payed manager, even though we have people who have studied business for years and they don’t make half as much as you do” the brunette paused once more, dramatically. Brown eyes searching for a semi-similar pair “Have you ever met my father, Marco? I can call you Marco, can’t I? You are two years older than me, there’s no need to be so formal.”

jackson spent a lot of time at bars. there were a handful that were regular spots for him; the zafire happened to be one of those. it wasn’t the kind of place he expected himself to enjoy. jackson tended to lean towards dive bars, with rickety tables and jukeboxes that genuinely looked like they were from the 50s. and yet he still found himself frequenting the spot, drinking himself most weekends to the metaphorical brink of death: and finding himself needing to get rescued by one particularly small business woman. tonight was unlikely to be any different. the sound of heels coming up beside him caught jackson’s attention, and he turned just in time to spot yolo pausing beside him.
“don’t sound so disappointed. it’s still early. plenty of time to get messy,” jackson retorted, mimicking her expression with an arched brow of his own. unlike hers, however, jackson’s face was quick to break out into an arrogant grin, a product of the alcohol he’d consumed. his ego was big enough when he was sober, but he was humbled by his own timidness: when the liquor kicked in, that went out the window. “you sure know how to throw a party. though admittedly, i wish it wasn’t so humid.”
Tumblr media
The brunette pursed her lips upon hearing the other speak, a huff escaping her as the businesswoman tried not to react to his statement or her burlesque, teasing grin. “I’ll keep the guards informed to keep an eye on the blabbering drunkard in the next couple of hours, if you ruin the bathroom I will make you pay” she warned with an accusatory tone, no indication of a jest whatsoever, even if a part of her was indeed, kidding, it wasn’t her intention for the other to know that. As the man complimented the event, Yolotl looked around the venue, inhaling deeply. People seemed to be enjoying themselves, everything looked perfect, exactly how she had planned when she had pitched the idea. Yet. she couldn’t bring herself to feel the joy she usually did after a job well done. “Yeah, because everyone is a fan of a dry jungle” the businesswoman pointed out, the edge of her lips curling into a smirk.
Ignoring the pit on her stomach the businesswoman had been feeling all week, she looked up at the man once more, arching a brow almost challengingly. “Do you want to quicken that pace of yours? They don’t have the Whiskey I like in here, but I know for a fact the only tequila we sell is my family’s. Ready for a round, or do I have to fin someone more undaunted?”

Agreeing to make the event on GARDEN OF LOVE had been nothing more than premeditated plan. Although the offer had been a perfect way to launch the season’s string of events being held in the venue throughout the summer, Yolotl’s main focus wasn’t on business for the first time in her lifetime but rather on the club manager: Marco Reyes. Granted, the business was owned by her family, most importantly, her father, but up until his disappearance the youngest Córcega heir had not seen the logical side of the business up close and personal. Now, as CEO of the Córcega company, everything had changed. In an overwhelmingly long list of tasks she had been granted to try and salvage the company, background checks on staff became primordial and thus, Yolo encountered Marco’s name for the second time in her lifetime.
In the midst of the event, making her usual rounds as a hostess and after asking everyone involved in the organization of the event to let her know the minute the managed arrived, one of the waiters approached her, pointing at a young, curly haired man; her stomach dropping. Ever since hearing the tale of her father’s indiscretion and how her life had been a lie, Yolo had been avoiding meeting the side of the family she didn’t know, terrified of stepping into their world and not quite fitting in. It all had changed when learning about Marco and the way her father had handled the situation. Gathering all the courage she possessed, the businesswoman walked up to the man, arms crossed beneath her chest. “Marco Reyes? Yolotl Córcega, CEO of Córcega Co— may I speak with you privately? There’s a rather urgent matter I must discuss with you.” // @reyesmarco

Yolotl was, by all means, a control freak when it came to work. By nature, the businesswoman was a perfectionist in all the aspects of her life which made interpersonal relationships hard enough; adding the business element to the equation, it became almost impossible to form a bond with people who didn’t work side-by-side with her. However, she was drawn to mess; always ready to clean up and fix what was broken.
Case in point, Jackson, whom she had found giving one of her many rounds of the night. The logical part of her brain reminded her the young man was not exactly good news; if his track in Zafire was an indicator of how tonight could eventually end. And yet, her feet were moving by his side before she could react, perfectly shaped eyebrow arching up in an almost playful manner. “Look what the cat dragged in. Are you having fun, Jackson? I don’t think I’ve ever seen you half as sober as you look today— must be the end of the world as we know it” // @jackscn-rhodes

➠ 𝙇𝙀𝘼𝙉𝙉𝘼 𝙊𝙍𝙏𝙀𝙕:
Leanna giggled lightly at Yolo’s response. “But doesn’t it ruin customer satisfication or are they too tipsy to care?” The leggy blonde questioned, leading her out to the balcony filled with neon lights. “Trust me, you don’t wanna get into smoking. I’ve been doing it since I was thirteen, a bad habit I picked up from my brother.” She mentioned. “Sometimes I can’t go up a level of stairs or work out without coughing, and that sucks when you have to stay healthy for modeling. It suppresses my appetite, but I also feel like shit.” She lit a cig up while complaining about her issues. “I should stop before I end up with a hole in my throat or something.”
Tumblr media
Yolo shrugged, smirking. “It’s the beehive mindset sometimes, fear of missing out— there’s a bunch of psychological and sociological elements to it, but as long as there are women, men won’t leave. It’s gross, I know, but there is a reason ‘girls nights’ and ‘no-cover for women’ events exist. It’s mysogynistic, but that’s marketing for you” was her response. Hearing her friend talk about the health problems induced by the habit she was actively pursuing, made the businesswoman nod. “I remember my dad telling me each time he lit up a cigarette was like playing russian roulette, ‘Is this the one who’s gonna end me’ type of deal” she recalled, resting her weight on a wall. “Would you try nicotine patches? My father tried those, they helped a tad. If you really wanna quit, I’ll help. I’ll do my research, get you the patches— anything you need.”

➟ 𝘿𝘼𝙉𝙄𝙀𝙇 𝘾𝙊𝙉𝙉𝙊𝙍:

Fingers wrapped around the other glass of water, it wasn’t very cold, condensation forming  around the glass, leaving a wet ring upon the table as he lifted the now room-temperature glass towards his lips for a long sip. It was a giveaway that he’d arrived much later than he intended. Returning the glass on the wet circle on the table before him, a cocky smile stretched along his lips, and he chuckled. “Ah yeah, they know I’m in New York, it’s official.” he answered, shaking his head mildly. Danny appreciated his fans, he loved the support and how passionate they could be for him. It was thanks to them he had such a long thriving career. Admittedly, his opportunity at acting was due to his handsome exterior, not having a lick of experience in acting beforehand, not even in school. He never thought much about improving and expected the red carpet to roll out for him simply because of his looks. One day, a young person was audacious enough to tell Danny at a fan event that he was the weakest actor. It was brutal, and a hard pill to swallow but it was true. Those words stuck with him and he took it very seriously by training and seeking advice from the actors he admired, both film and stage. Danny wouldn’t be just another handsome face that would inevitably be replaced by another.
“They’re mostly a passionate bunch, but I adore my fans and I love New York, always have. But it’s a different beast living here, you know.” Danny was used to moving around, a Bostonian, that never really stayed in one place. His family traveled often, no place really felt like home to the actor. His life was always hectic. Danny grinned and laughed softly after her response in Spanish, “Somos muy parecidos, tú y yo. Eres uno de los pocos con los que siempre seré sincero.” Which was the truth. Danny was a bullshitter, most of the time. He didn’t have much respect for most people until they proved him otherwise. Yolotl had his respect and he was honored to be doing business with a magnificent woman. She was a no nonsense kind of person. Danny made a brief unfortunate face after she expressed her annoyance regarding her long day, and he leaned forward with excitement when she questioned his upcoming television show. “Absolutely. It’s going splendidly. I’m happy to be working again. I’m a big fan of Grayson James’ work and the book we’re basing the show. Trevor Coen, the director, he’s a dear friend and we have an amazing cast. It’s stupid amounts of fun. I’m really confident that James’ followers will not be disappointed.”
Yolo gave in return an understanding nod. “Paparazzi? Or social media slip up?” the businesswoman inquired. One of the many positive things that came from moving to New York from home, was putting an end to the scrutiny her family lived under the eyes of the public and paparazzi. The sense of anonymity was empowering for the woman who had learned to make a name for herself in the world with the ‘work until you don’t have to introduce yourself’ type of mindset. However, as little as she understood the world of fame and as irritated as it made her, she understood not everyone had the same mindset as her and Daniel had a mind of his own, something the businesswoman appreciated even if they didn’t always seem eye to eye in a few instances. Not to mention, his livelihood quite depended on how the public viewed him. He was a rather skilful actor, there was a reason Yolotl had personally  asked him to be the face of the Córcega brand in America, why she had trusted him to represent her family and herself in a country that wasn’t hers.
“I know” the brunette gave the blond a sympathetic grin. Being a daughter of a business mogul, Yolo had spent most of her childhood and teenage years traveling around the world, living everywhere and nowhere all at once. Moving permanently to New York had been an odd move, a challenging one. “It fits you though, I believe. It’s a very unique city that doesn’t fit many” she shrugged. At his little affirmation in Spanish, the businesswoman had to grin. “Lo mismo digo, Danny. Conoces más de mi y mi familia que la mayoría de gente que cree conocerme” she replied solemnly, which was true. The situation her family was at the moment, her father’s disappearance, if anyone in New York knew about it all, it was Daniel. Both in the name of the business they had together and their blossoming friendship. If his name was going to be linked with the Córcega brand, he was entitled to know about her family’s sins and how she was doing everything in her power to make everything right. At the mention of Grayson’s name, the brunette couldn’t help but grin. “As a friend of yours and Graysons’ and an avid fan of his and your work, I’ve never been more thrilled about a series before. I really am happy for both of you. Are you staying in New York after you’re done filming?”

“It’s cost-efficient, plus it gives people a reason to want to drink more which is, after all, the reason most of us are here. Hazardous, yes, but you’re forgetting owners don’t usually care unless it affects their profit” Yolo grinned, guarding her bottle of water like her life depended on it. “The owner of this club? I’ve met him, not as cheap, just an asshole”. The business mindset never seemed to leave her entirely, but she trusted her businesses too much to try such cheap tricks. As Leanna spoke again, the businesswoman nodded, grabbing onto her phone and water even tighter “Let’s go, maybe today will be the day when you’ll finally get me into smoking. I never quite understood the appeal but I am open-minded.”
open starter
Leanna was on break at the club, she was slightly sweaty and half of her makeup was smeared off by the humid atmosphere. Friday nights were always busy and heated, she spent half of her shift cleaning up vomit off of toilet seats and her back hurt from bending down constantly. Now she sat at the bar and drank sparkling water. “Shit, it’s so fucking hot in here. Are they really that cheap to not get good air conditioning? It fucking reeks like a gym locker here.” She took off her little blazer that her manager made her wear. “I’m gonna go outside for a smoke. Wanna come along?”

“My dear, you could pull off being bald, and trust me when I say, I don’t say that to many people, and you and I both know how brutally honest I can be” the brunette smirks, eyes casted downwards in an attempt to finish the last line in Lermontov’s A Hero of Our Time. As the final question made by the author hangs in the air, Yolo finally looks up to grant her friend an honest grin. “However— bangs, I would not recommend, not only do they hide that beautiful face of yours, but they are terrible for your skin” a pause. “Why the sudden change? Everything okay?”
Tumblr media
“I need your brutally honest opinion on something, m’kay?” Helena asks as soon as she’s seated across for her companion. “I’m thinking about getting bangs,” she says at last, linking her fingers together on the table to keep herself from drumming them against the surface. “Drastic change, I know, but I’ve wanted bangs since I was like, fifteen, but my mom never let me do it…” The blonde shrugs, leaning back against her chair while looking at the other. “ — I could pull it off, right?”

Now that was one hell of a offer. Amory had basically already made up their mind on the matter but what she said only sealed the deal, so to speak. He kept that to himself though, not wanting to seem too desperate. Not that he was, oh no. The job they currently had paid well and made them feel like one of the family. But the hours, it was a little too draining for Amory. It wouldn’t work out in the long run. “I think I already have made up my mind, you see. I just don’t want to seem too eager” they chuckled and shrugged. “But I have been thinking about changing bars. I need better hours. I don’t want to work myself into an early death”
Tumblr media
Yolotl was an overly-confident woman, that was obvious to anyone who dared to lay eyes on her. however, her biggest pride and joy where the businesses she had forged from the ground all by herself; the rooftop bar and the hotel. She excelled on not only bringing the best to her staff but also in treat them as her own family and offer them exactly the type of job they deserved, as well as the payment that would both keep them happy and inspired. Alas, as the other chuckled and explained their situation, the brunette grinned, offering her hand for the other to shake. “I can do eagerness and I can work with a flexible schedule. I’d like for you to work here in Zafire, but my family owes other bars around New York in case you need another location. We can do a month trial, if it makes you feel more at ease, see if you like it enough to stay and we’ll go from there.”

what's the biggest regret you have?
“Leaving the quick and easy YOLO joke aside and my usual ‘regrets are for people who are afraid to learn from their mistakes’ speech I have constructed in the past few years— one simply does not plan to have a failed marriage under their belt before twenty-five, right?”
