I think both. If there is something interesting in meta or headcanons, that might give ideas... but I also have a strong pantser side, which means I come up with ideas through writing and drafting.

Hmmm... I put a lot of effort into Yuriko? And I always try to give her the lead no matter what I think. She knows best how she wants to react and act. In general, my emotional state affects my writing a lot. I need a steady and peaceful state of mind to write properly. I can do it other times too, but it's such a struggle.

Happy Birthday, Ruki!

It was so nice to come back home after relaxing in the onsen Ruki and Yuriko had spent their anniversary. Once they had packed everything, they drove back with the limousine, Yuriko napping against Ruki. A while later, the car stopped to the front yard of their house, and Ruki collected still yawning Yuriko in his arms, helping her out. The familiar scent of flowers and the nearby forest greeted them, bringing the instant feeling of safe coming back.

Beaming, Yuriko gazed at the view. The grey stone building stood tall between trees with fresh green leaves, except for the Japanese maple whose red blossoms made the tree look fiery. It was a bright spot in front of the house. Their home. It still was hard to believe how far they had come from their first days. Yuriko held Ruki’s hand, rose on her toes, and pecked his cheek.

“I’m so lucky to be with you here today.” A smile broke out of Yuriko when Ruki turned his head and smirked. “Happy birthday, Ruki. Let’s have a cozy day at home.”

But Ruki’s gaze wandered somewhere. Yuriko tilted her head and tried to see what he was watching. The wind turned, and new but familiar scents wafted in their direction at the same moment, Yuriko spotted three figures. “Oh… there are people on the porch…”

Yuriko's heart took a leap.

They really came!

She would have wanted to jump a little from the joy but these days she felt way too heavy to do such a thing. Instead, she pulled Ruki’s hand gently. “Come…”

Pulling his hand, Yuriko brought Ruki closer to the porch. This was perfect. The day before they had had their quality time alone at the onsen but today... Today, Ruki deserved fun family time. Yuriko had asked his brothers to come, and now, she was almost bursting since they had made it.

Of course, they had, Yuriko reminded herself. They wouldn't have missed today.

Yuma was the first to stand up. He looked even taller than usual, gazing down from the porch. “Damn, ya surely took yer time to get here. I thought ya’d come directly in the morning.”

“Ruki-kun, since when you have become such a slowpoke~?” Kou teased as well, stretching his arms and yawning. “What took you so long~? Just how did you spend your morning~?”

Yuriko's face flared but Ruki ignored the question. Lucky for them, Kou didn't have time to throw out more awkward questions, for Azusa pushed his body up and roamed down the two steps from the porch to the path.

Azusa's lips curled up as he patted Ruki's shoulder. “Ruki… I hope you had…” His beaming made Yuriko feel warm. “...a nice day at… the onsen… with Yuriko-chan.”

“Come on, let us in!" Kou was getting impatient. Yuriko could almost smell it. "We’ve been here since forever!” 

Yuriko couldn’t help but giggle at the demands. But her steps were surprisingly light when she roamed in with everyone and let the brothers have their family moment. Before she knew it, Kou and Yuma had pulled out glasses and poured sparkling liquid into them.

“Don’t worry, Yuriko-chan~ There’s no alcohol in yours~” Kou handed glasses to everyone. When they were ready, he raised his. “To your last moments of peace and quiet!” He grinned at Ruki. “Happy birthday, Ruki-kun!”

“Happy birthday!” Everyone joined the wishes.

Ruki is a tall, slender man with a broad torso. He has blue-grey eyes with long lashes and short ruffled black hair. Two large scars are on his back where he was branded as child. They look like the marks of ripped off wings. On his right ear he has three black piercings. Most of the time, he wears black web chokers around his neck.

Usually, Ruki wears a grey jacket with a black long sleeve shirt underneath, black pants and a brown belt. Sometimes, he only wears a black long sleeve shirt with a black butterfly print on the bottom left side, black pants and a black belt.

His school uniform consists of the regular black jacket and black pants. Under the jacket Ruki wears a white shirt which is slightly unbuttoned revealing a black long sleeve shirt. The tie is not tied neatly. Also, he has brown shoes.

The school uniform in Lost Eden consists of the regular red jacket, black pants, a white shirt and a black long sleeve shirt. Here, he is not wearing a tie. His shoes are white.

In Chaos Lineage Ruki wears the clothes of the Orange Family. These consist of a white jacket with orange applications, black pants, an orange waistcoat, a black shirt and a white tie.

For sleeping Ruki wears a regular pair of pajamas. All ones he wears are similar-looking.

RELATIVES AND HISTORY

Based on More Blood and Lost Eden

Before Ruki became a vampire, he was a human. Born into an aristocratic family, he lived with a respectable father (name unknown) and a beautiful mother (name unknown) in a manor in a country now known as Romania (Eastern Europe). Growing up surrounded by love and luxury, every day was filled with happiness. Gradually Ruki got tired of these days, slowly and very quietly he was swallowed by darkness. Ruki thought he had everything. All his actions were excused and he was constantly surrounded by servants. He took this for granted. Eventually, he stopped questioning hurting anyone and treated his servants very badly. Disobedience or mistakes were immediately punished by his own hand. Already at this time, Ruki called the people who stood under him "Livestock" and himself "Master".

One day, Ruki woke up and none of his servants had come to spoil him. When he left his room, he noticed that there was a ruckus in the manor. While fighting over the family's belongings, the servants explained to Ruki that his father had failed as a businessman. His mother, who no longer felt love for this kind of man, eloped with her lover, leaving him only a letter. Ruki's father chose the easy way, ended his life and left him alone as an abandoned child.

First Ruki stayed in the manor. But soon thieves seized the opportunity. They stole the last valuable things and destroyed everything. In search of something to eat, Ruki left his home and lived on the street from then on. At some point his will to live disappeared. Suffering from hunger, Ruki just wanted to sleep and preferably never wake up. All lost and abandoned, there was no reason for him to continue living.

But Ruki opened his eyes again in an orphanage. The conditions there were horrible. Malnutrition, abuse and disease were pervasive. On the day of his arrival, Ruki was beaten by the other orphans because of his background. That day Azusa entered Ruki's life and started following him, hoping to be beaten as well if he stayed close to him. At the beginning, Ruki was annoyed and found him creepy. But soon he used Azusa as a pawn and hid behind him to avoid being harmed. After a while, Ruki learned to trust him and they became like brothers. Later the two met Kou and Yuma in the orphanage. Together with his not blood-related brothers Ruki made the decision to escape from the orphanage and thus their personal hell. The four brothers were shot on the run and captured again. As a punishment, Ruki was branded on his back with a fire hook by the owner of the orphanage. Marked like "livestock", he was left to die.

Just before Ruki crossed the bridge of death, Karlheinz showed up. That man offered him to avenge on humanity. With the prospect of a second chance, Ruki agreed and Karlheinz turned him into a vampire and brought him to his new home. Together with his brothers, who also used this opportunity, he lived from then on in Eden (castle in the demon world/Makai). Out of gratitude, Ruki swore eternal loyalty and devotion to his benefactor and accepted the task of taking care of his younger brothers.

Wanting to fulfill Karlheinz's greatest wish and to repay him for the new life that the four brothers were given, they moved to Kaminashi City (Japan) as transfer students to pursue their savior's plan. In order to carry out the "Apple of Eden Project" successfully, Ruki did not shy away from resorting to cruel methods. Being a loyal servant to Karlheinz and the awakening of Adam now became the focus of Ruki's life.

In Lost Eden, after Karlheinz's death, Ruki found out that a "devil" named Trismégiste was responsible for his father's bankruptcy. This man suddenly appeared and gained the acting president's trust by healing his sick daughter. Manipulated by Trismégiste, the president dismissed all the people who had supported him. So does Ruki's father.

(Ruki's father suffered so much from the dismissal that he came home drunk and raised his hand to his wife. It could possibly be one of the reasons why Ruki's mother left the family.)

The president began embezzling public funds and imposing heavy taxes on the people. After many years of dictatorship, there was a revolution and the president and Trismégiste were executed. Under unclear circumstances, Trismégiste's body disappeared without a trace.

Ruki discovered evidence that Karlheinz was probably Trismégiste. At that time, he lived in Ruki's hometown as he later stayed in Japan as Tougo Sakamaki.

In Rotigenberg (demon world) Ruki met his living father again. Karlheinz conducted experiments on human corpses to create a new race. The dead body of Ruki's father was also collected for this purpose and the once dead man was turned into a ghoul.

Through these new findings, Ruki came to the conclusion that Karlheinz may have saved him and his brothers in order to redeem himself and to calm his conscience for the terrible acts in Ruki's hometown. Nevertheless, knowing that Karlheinz was responsible for his fate, he makes peace with him. In the end, Ruki is grateful for creating a new family for him and his brothers.

THE CAT INCIDENT

In More Blood, Ruki killed a cat. He did not do this terrible action out of malice. There is a deeper symbolism behind it.

Ruki saw himself in the cat and projected his own experiences on it. It was very bad for him when he was taken to the orphanage. Repeatedly, he mentioned that he would have preferred to be left on the street to die. But his wish was not fulfilled. Instead, he was deprived of his freedom.

Adopting the cat, which was already weakened, felt like imprisonment for Ruki. To save the cat from this fate, he killed it.

His intention was rather to die than to live a life without freedom. In Ruki's eyes, killing the cat was an act of salvation. He thought it was the best he could do.

ABILITIES

As a former human, Ruki is just an incomplete vampire, also called halfblood. Just like pureblood vampires, he is immortal and possesses inhuman abilities, such as increased

Since Ruki is a halfblood vampire, he cannot forget the pain he experienced as a human.

Sometimes it is difficult for him to keep his body temperature, which is not entirely absent. It is just different from that of a human.

In Lost Eden, he said Karlheinz created a new family for him and his brothers (He is their father after all)

He was very sad about Karlheinz death (He was tormenting himself over it)

ROMANTIC RELATIONSHIP

He does not want to show weakness (He wants to look cool in front of the girl he likes)

He would never say that the woman he loves is a burden

Because of her he learned to accept new things

He is willing to listen to her wishes and grants them if she is obedient

It was so nice to come back home after relaxing in the onsen Ruki and Yuriko had spent their anniversary. Once they had packed everything, they drove back with the limousine, Yuriko napping against Ruki. A while later, the car stopped to the front yard of their house, and Ruki collected still yawning Yuriko in his arms, helping her out. The familiar scent of flowers and the nearby forest greeted them, bringing the instant feeling of safe coming back.

Beaming, Yuriko gazed at the view. The grey stone building stood tall between trees with fresh green leaves, except for the Japanese maple whose red blossoms made the tree look fiery. It was a bright spot in front of the house. Their home. It still was hard to believe how far they had come from their first days. Yuriko held Ruki’s hand, rose on her toes, and pecked his cheek.

“I’m so lucky to be with you here today.” A smile broke out of Yuriko when Ruki turned his head and smirked. “Happy birthday, Ruki. Let’s have a cozy day at home.”

But Ruki’s gaze wandered somewhere. Yuriko tilted her head and tried to see what he was watching. The wind turned, and new but familiar scents wafted in their direction at the same moment, Yuriko spotted three figures. “Oh… there are people on the porch…”

Yuriko's heart took a leap.

They really came!

She would have wanted to jump a little from the joy but these days she felt way too heavy to do such a thing. Instead, she pulled Ruki’s hand gently. “Come…”

Pulling his hand, Yuriko brought Ruki closer to the porch. This was perfect. The day before they had had their quality time alone at the onsen but today... Today, Ruki deserved fun family time. Yuriko had asked his brothers to come, and now, she was almost bursting since they had made it.

Of course, they had, Yuriko reminded herself. They wouldn't have missed today.

Yuma was the first to stand up. He looked even taller than usual, gazing down from the porch. “Damn, ya surely took yer time to get here. I thought ya’d come directly in the morning.”

“Ruki-kun, since when you have become such a slowpoke~?” Kou teased as well, stretching his arms and yawning. “What took you so long~? Just how did you spend your morning~?”

Yuriko's face flared but Ruki ignored the question. Lucky for them, Kou didn't have time to throw out more awkward questions, for Azusa pushed his body up and roamed down the two steps from the porch to the path.

Azusa's lips curled up as he patted Ruki's shoulder. “Ruki… I hope you had…” His beaming made Yuriko feel warm. “...a nice day at… the onsen… with Yuriko-chan.”

“Come on, let us in!" Kou was getting impatient. Yuriko could almost smell it. "We’ve been here since forever!” 

Yuriko couldn’t help but giggle at the demands. But her steps were surprisingly light when she roamed in with everyone and let the brothers have their family moment. Before she knew it, Kou and Yuma had pulled out glasses and poured sparkling liquid into them.

“Don’t worry, Yuriko-chan~ There’s no alcohol in yours~” Kou handed glasses to everyone. When they were ready, he raised his. “To your last moments of peace and quiet!” He grinned at Ruki. “Happy birthday, Ruki-kun!”

“Happy birthday!” Everyone joined the wishes.

Rukiko Anniversary, April 23rd

Rukiko is a DL RP ship that started in 2022 and is mostly based on private interactions with @ruki-mukami-dl (my dear bae, I love you so much). However, every now and then we post something on Tumblr too, and in 2023 Rukiko had their wedding. To celebrate Rukiko's anniversary we decided to make something special and held a magazine interview for our dear couple. Ruki and Yuriko answered them separately. Our monthly peek into the city's love life reveals the secrets of the couples. This month, we interviewed the brother of top idol Mukami Kou and his wife. Enjoy this peek into the life of Mukami Ruki and Yuriko.

Mukami Ruki is a fresh face in the publishing industry, recently starting as the CEO of Kaminashi Modern Classics. Literature fans all over the city are excited to see how this change will affect the local publishing policies. But we here at the Hot Takes want to see behind the scenes. So, how is the love life of this peculiar man behind the bookshelves?

Facts

Name: Mukami Ruki Age: 20 Hot gossip: He used to be a student in Kaminashi University's literature department. Yet, even before the first year of his studies had ended, he had secured his position at the very top of a small but established and prized local publishing house.

The couple is living on the edge of the city. They renovated an old servant house that is said to be located near the household of our beloved idol.

Fangirls to be warned, the area is rumored to be heavily guarded, and we aren't encouraging anyone to try to find the exact location.

Name: Mukami Yuriko Age: 21 Hot gossip: She's Ruki's high school sweetheart and used to be a literature student as well. However, she is currently expecting the couple's firstborn who will be born in the next month.

As always, we made the couple answer the questions separately. Now, let's see if they agree or disagree.

Who was the one to propose?

Ruki: I made the marriage proposal on New Year's Eve. On that day, I felt nervous for the first time in my life. I really struggled to keep my composure and keep the surprise a secret until the very end. But Yuriko's reaction, her smile, and her shining eyes were worth the whirlpool of emotions.

Yuriko: Ruki did! I didn’t expect it at all. I was thinking that we were about to spend a regular New Year’s Eve but after dinner, Ruki brought me into the living room, which was decorated with beautiful lights, and lifted me on his lap. He… he said such meaningful things and then… then he asked me to marry him after we graduated from high school. Of course, I said yes, and last spring we had our wedding. Today is our wedding anniversary.

Who stressed more over wedding planning?

Ruki: That was me. Without a doubt. I just wanted this day to be perfect. I wanted nothing to get in the way and everything to run smoothly. I have to admit that a few unreliable people really got on my nerves a few times. It would have been best if I had just done everything myself…

Yuriko: I… umh… I think I should have stressed more over it. But I think Ruki actually did… He made sure we chose just the right dishes and that outfits matched after I had chosen mine. He did so much. I’m a bit ashamed for being so scattered about everything…

Who decorated the house?

Ruki: The two of us. When Yuriko moved into the Mukami manor, it was already completely decorated. Of course, I tried to take her wishes into account in our bedroom and later in the renovated library. However, that was not enough for me. So it was very important to me that we decorated the new house together. Our home should represent both of us and make us feel at homely.

Yuriko: Oh! I actually did… or more like, Ruki allowed me to pick most of the colors and so on. But… but… he and his brothers did the heavy lifting. I simply arranged some lighter things in our new house. But maybe I can do more later?

Who does the cooking?

Ruki: Usually me. But if I do not have time to cook because I am too busy with other things, Yuriko does it. Other than that, we often cook together. It is a nice way to spend time as a couple.

Yuriko: Ruki… He is much better at it than I am. But we do a lot of cooking together too. Sometimes I cook, especially if Ruki isn’t at home.

Who is more organized?

Ruki: Without a doubt me. Yuriko completes her tasks without much planning. And often, she spaces out. Then she completely forgets to do important things. I, on the other hand, have almost every minute of the day planned out and stay focused. I think Yuriko knows how important this is to me and she tries her best to keep up with my schedule and tasks. I appreciate this.

Yuriko: Umh… I’m not organized at all… but Ruki is very organized. That helps a lot!

Who initiates bedroom fun?

Ruki: We both initiate. That is all I want to say about that.

Yuriko: Ehhh?! What… what kind of question is this?! I… I… think… both of us…

Who suggested kids first?

Ruki: None of us did. It happened unplanned. But one thing is clear, we are planning the next child together.

Yuriko: Ahem… umh… well… Neither? I mean… I just forgot to take my contraception… umhhh…

Who’s more dominant?

Ruki: Me, of course. I am not only Yuriko's husband but also her master.

Yuriko: I think Ruki is.

Who’s the cuddler?

Ruki: I would say we both do. Physical proximity is very important to us. It is a way for us to show our love for each other. And I really enjoy her warmth…

Yuriko: Oh? Both of us, definitely. I just love to cuddle with Ruki while we are reading. And of course, at other times too.

What’s your favorite non-sexual activity?

Ruki: Reading. It does not matter whether we read a book together or each have our own. We really enjoy this way of spending time.

Yuriko: Reading! But I think Ruki enjoys cooking too. I mean… I’m not that eager to cook but I love spending time with Ruki, so making dinner together is pleasant. Still, reading together is my favorite.

Who comes home drunk at 3 am?

Ruki: Good grief... None of us, of course. Just what kind of question is that?

Yuriko: Umh… do some people do that? I can’t imagine either of us even being drunk…

Who kills the spiders?

Ruki: We do not kill spiders or bugs. But I am the one who catches them and takes them outside.

Yuriko: Huh? Spiders aren’t supposed to be killed. You should just simply pick them up with something and carry them out.

Who falls asleep first?

Ruki: Yuriko. She is a little sleepyhead. A cute one, of course. It is really unbelievable, but she is able to take a nap in very strange places. About sleeping at night... Generally, I am a bad sleeper. It takes me a while to fall asleep. Also… I like watching Yuriko sleep. That is why I try to stay awake longer than her.

Yuriko: Mostly me. But if I stroke Ruki’s hair gently, sometimes he might be the first to doze off.

Happy Anniversary

"Umh... Ruki, look. I made a scrapbook page with our memories from last year. Do you like it?"

Beaming, Yuriko showed Ruki what she had made. She couldn't hold in a happy giggle.

Ruki: We do not kill spiders or bugs. But I am the one who catches them and takes them outside.

Yuriko: Huh? Spiders aren’t supposed to be killed. You should just simply pick them up with something and carry them out.

Who falls asleep first?

Ruki: Yuriko. She is a little sleepyhead. A cute one, of course. It is really unbelievable, but she is able to take a nap in very strange places. About sleeping at night... Generally, I am a bad sleeper. It takes me a while to fall asleep. Also… I like watching Yuriko sleep. That is why I try to stay awake longer than her.

Yuriko: Mostly me. But if I stroke Ruki’s hair gently, sometimes he might be the first to doze off.

Happy Anniversary

"Umh... Ruki, look. I made a scrapbook page with our memories from last year. Do you like it?"

Beaming, Yuriko showed Ruki what she had made. She couldn't hold in a happy giggle.

Leaning and rising on her toes, Yuriko pressed a soft kiss on his cheek.

Wow! Your doodles are great in general and this looks so cool! Thank you for making it! 🩵 Also, Róisín sounds like an interesting character for sure. While Yuriko is more a literature person than someone very into pop culture, she likely knows more about it than Róisín since she used to live with humans before moving in with the Mukamis... and well, having an idol in the household has surely taught her quite a bit about that business. Interactions sound fun too. The last weeks of the spring semester are currently squeezing all the energy out of me, but as the summer gets closer, things should be easier again. ^^

I’ve been following you for quite a while and I thought your oc would get long well with my other shapeshifter ocs, more specifically Róisín, so here’s a little doodle.

I could imagine Yuriko teaching Ro a bit about pop culture, as she knows quite literally nothing as she literally lived in the sea as a seal her whole life. Anyways, I hope we can have further interactions in the future, as well as roleplays between our ocs, I think it could be fun.

🏠 Do you prefer to RP within just one fandom, or more? Which verses of yours are more, or less compatible with others?

Hmm, to be honest, I mostly prefer RP within DL fandom because that's what I'm familiar with. But if I know the fandom, I might be okay to RP within it or make a crossover for it. I'm also okay with fandomless RP or making a new character/using a canon character for another fandom I like. I think both the Moon verse and the Godless verse are mostly compatible for Diabolik Lovers due to being heavily connected with Ruki. But the Another Realm verse can be used for anything. We just need to discuss the details before starting. The thing is I think some Final Fantasy games are almost the only thing I know well enough to RP without getting myself informed first. I also used to RP in Naruto fandom but that was ages ago, so I have probably forgotten some of the canon stuff. 🤭

🎀 What's the last nice thing you saw pertaining to rp?

I have seen some of my mutuals enjoying their RP threads. It's so nice to notice that people are still active and having fun with each other even though my own Tumblr threads are proceeding rather slowly and many RPs have died down (not blaming anyone for this, I have been extremely busy lately so I haven't had time to reach out). I'm happy that the community is still alive around me. 🩵

"Yuriko-san, random question but do you think it's weird that blood tastes good to me?"

"I accidentally cut myself while cutting some vegetables with a knife in my kitchen the other day. And when I licked the wound, it tasted decent."

Yuriko blinked when Aiko asked her a sudden question. "Umh...?"

Was it weird? Yuriko had licked her own wounds a couple of times and the blood hadn't tasted too bad. But she wouldn't drink it like the Vampires did.

"I guess it's normal that your own blood tastes decent." Yuriko tilted her head, playing with her curls. "Umh... but you should be careful. You could have cut your finger badly. Not to mention that the scent of blood can lure... umh... Vampires close to you."
