Culturally, we are still doing the 'tortured genius' routine, so if a guy is a piece of sh*t, then he must be so good at his job.

Amount so many take aways from the Quiet On Set documentary, another one that I think it’s important is that a child should never become the provider of an entire family. It’s dangerous. This creates a matter of conflict of interest because the family’s livelihood now depends on that child getting employed and a lot of parents neglect their kids safety as long as it continues giving them certain lifestyle. The actor Bryan Hearne from All That saying that he was trying to get his family out of their financial situation so he endured a lot of uncomfortable situations should not exist. Because that was not the child’s responsibility. And a lot of times networks employ people that aren’t stable financially so they can exploit them more.
And this can be said now for all of those “family influencers” that totally exploit their kids for content. And it never vibes well with me.

Another thing that haunts me about this entire thing is that Amanda wasn’t just funny like her coworkers, or funny like other Disney and Nickelodeon actresses. Amanda Bynes was funny like Carol Burnett. Funny like Lucille Ball. She was effervescent and classic. Her comedic sensibilities were deeply intelligent. She had *it*. And she should have grown into one of the best actresses of our generation. But *something* happened and derailed it all. Even if she’s not the same, I truly hope she’s well and happy. I want nothing but the best for her, even if it’s a quiet and private life. I adored her back then and always will.

Quiet on Set really hit hard. As someone who grew up watching these shows religiously, and being so familiar with these kids, it's absolutely devastating to see how much abuse went unchecked. Drake Bell's story is incredibly harrowing and I applaud him for having the courage to finally speak publicly after all these years. Who knows how many more might come forward because of this, or at the very least how many people affected with similar experiences may feel a little less alone.
As I saw someone say, it really feels like Dan Schneider subconsciously traumatized an entire generation of kids by exposing them to so much implied sexual innuendo in his shows. It's clear he got off on not just being able to put child performers in these morally dubious positions, but also by exposing the audience to such fare. It's deeply disturbing to see these "jokes" Now as an adult, and I personally feel super conflicted about it.
I hope change comes from this documentary, aside from the existential dread I presume many people my age might feel after watching.

whenever someone calls USAmerican English the 'movie accent' I remember how somewhere last year I was on a train when suddenly the silence was broken by an american voice behind me somewhere and I immediately thought "Oh no, someones playing their tiktoks out loud again" and automatically turned around to put a face to my annoyance like you do when someones driving bad, and turns out a few rows down were just some actual in the flesh USAmericans having a nice conversation amongst themselves. I am sorry Americans I'm glad they let you out of the phone
