It's clear the more I read that Leander really isn't like Laurent haha so my mental image is struggling. I do still pull from Laurent, mostly because Leander wears his hair in a braid and I really headcanon long-haired Laurent with a braid 🥺🥺

Kaldir, I honestly have little mental image of him. He doesn't look like Auguste and I feel like Leander doesn't focus on Kaldir's physical appearance much? I definitely picture someone a lot taller than Leander, and broader/more built with a darker complexion + dark hair and much older despite what the pesky canon might say. But the specifics are 🤷‍♀️

Also I feel like in this au, Damen wouldn't be the sunshine baby boy as ever, like I want him to be spoiled and entitled (especially since this is an egeria lives!au, his mom would SPOIL him rotten tbh). And I think he's like super possessive of Laurent too, not in a “baby i love you and will protect you always☺️” but “i own that, cunts” way lol. Like as in the fic damen plays with Laurent's hair or stares at it, he def does more pda because ofc he can 😋 On that note, i feel like he's not that affectionate with Laurent, in general. Damen is 100% so spoiled and entitled (also I love the idea of Egeria spoiling him rotten if she lived). I do have to diverge a little bit tho 😭 I love your ideas but my intention is for Damen to actually be affectionate with Laurent and for there to be capacity for them to build a happy life together!

Auguste’s wife knowing — I hadn’t thought of that lolll. 😭 I’ll say I don’t think so, if only because I’d picture Auguste keeping her at a distance (metaphorically and literally, except for sex). She probably sees Laurent and Auguste’s relationship as normal (depending on her origins/culture) or pretty fucked up but normal for Auguste and non-sexual.

I think Damen would be great with his kids 💕💕 He and Laurent would probably butt heads because Damen wants them to be little soldiers immediately and Laurent thinks that’s barbaric 😂 He’d be better with physical affection than Theomedes was with him (he’s a hugger 😤)

Auguste with his kids — I think he’d take after Aleron (or at least fanon of Aleron): very focused on his first-born/heir, less so on the others. He’d perpetuate the same weird social hierarchy Laurent experienced, but I don’t see him having incestuous feelings for his children.

My thoughts on Damen in this AU!! ♥️ He’s extremely arrogant, ignorant, and spoiled — as such, he lacks an understanding of consent. He misinterprets Laurent’s subservience as Laurent simply being content having nothing to do all day except look pretty & be ready to be fucked at any moment. But I don’t think he’s purposefully cruel — in my mind, he’s super sweet on Laurent. 🥺 Right now there are just too many misunderstandings and cultural differences. I think if he found out Laurent is behaving out of absolute fear (fear of Damen hurting him, of Damen going to his slaves and making a bastard and all that fall out from Vere, of Auguste’s disapproval or anger) and that is why Laurent never says no to being fucked many times a day, Damen would be horrified.

Haha I could go on forever 😭 And although it’s not where I’m taking this, I love your idea of Damen being very closed off from Laurent and Laurent being forced to seek out comfort and love/romance from Auguste!! Like, that’d be so fucked up (compliment) and delicious and painful!!! ♥️

I feel like Laurent would be a very cersei lannister typa mom - in general or especially in this au - like super protective of their kids, almost in a “they are MY extensions” way. Also i hc that after 2-3 kids and as he grows older, laurent would definately lose his naivity and innocence (much to auguste' dismay) and grow into the role of cold and untouchable consort since he'd realize that what auguste does/did is not acceptable but since there's nothing he could do to stop it now, he just tries to put as much distance between them as possible. (also I don't think Laurent's into auguste as much as auguste is into/obsessed w him).

Concept :

There's obviously 'rumours' about the veretian king and the prince consort, ie, as in canon, but much worse. And Laurent low-key tries to makes sure his kids never hear about it. But ngl it would be funny if one of his kids jus go like “why tf do I look SO similar to my cousin of vere” lol

The comparison to Cersei Lannister is not something I had thought of but it's very apt! It’s also interesting given how Auguste and Damen are such opposite forces in Laurent’s life vs. Jamie and Robert in Cersei’s.

I definitely see Laurent growing to be very protective of his cihldren especially if there is a question of legitimacy/parenthood — like you said, these are Laurent’s children above all else, whether they were fathered by his husband or his brother.

The loss of Laurent’s naïveté and innocence would be a big thing, and also his growing confidence and sense of autonomy. E.g., realising he can ask for things or (!) even give orders as Damen’s consort. I think Laurent, much like in canon with his uncle, would struggle to ever define Auguste’s actions as fully wrong — but as he gets older and wiser, he would try to find ways to put a distance between them, as you said, while still preserving his relationship with Auguste. I think he’ll always seek Auguste’s love and approval 🥺

And yes -- Laurent doesn’t want anything more than a familial relationship with Auguste. His idea of what that means is warped from Auguste’s control over him and his life, so he lacks an understanding of what appropriate/normal boundaries are between brothers. But all the sexual/inappropriate aspects of their relationship are 100% driven by Auguste.

I didn’t even think of the rumours 😭 Auguste would probably order portraits of their kids together wearing matching outfits, he’s such a dick lmaoo 😭😭

Yes Laurent has the baby!!! Totally healthy and everything is fine ♥️

Does Laurent ever have a baby with Auguste — okay, I've been toying with the idea of Laurent having a baby with very Veretian features (no Akielon features), and how Auguste and Laurent would both react to it. But is the baby really Auguste’s or does it just take strongly after Laurent? 🤨

Does Damen ever find out — I don’t think so. Even if presented with evidence, and even from someone Damen really trusted, I think he would just refuse it as a possibility. I also don't want to fracture Damen and Laurent’s relationship too completely 🥺🥺

But thinking about it for fun? I think he would only believe it if that information came from Auguste or Laurent themselves, or he witnessed it firsthand. Laurent, in order to protect Auguste, might claim he was the one who tempted Auguste/made Auguste sleep with him 😭💔 We know Damen is loyal to a fault so I think he would find it in himself to forgive Laurent, to the extent that he doesn't declare war on Vere or publicly tarnish Laurent's relationship, but also probably forbids Laurent and Auguste from seeing each other again. I think if Laurent said it was a one time thing Damen would believe this, so he wouldn't question the entirety of their marriage or their kids, but maybe he'd unofficially banish Laurent to the summer palace or something — somewhere where Laurent wasn't disgraced and still remained in Akielos but Damen could block this all out of his memory, y'know, classic Damen style 🥲

Oh, he himself forgot, sometimes, how innocent Laurent truly was.

Ok so imagine this:

Laurent orders a new pair of boots made. Once they are done, they get delivered to akielos, bc that's where Laurent is right now. So he is in his - their - bedroom wearing a chiton when a servant arrives with his new boots: Dark blue, calf boots, reaching about a palm under Laurent's knees, and with a lot of lacing because Veretian. They were custom made, but Laurent obviously has to try them on. So he removes his sandals and puts both of them on, does all the lacings and test them out a little bit. He's distracted by all of it when Damen arrives. And Damen is just... mesmerized by the sight. So he just stands there and stare at Laurent in chiton wearing veretian boots. And even though the boots cover half of Laurent's legs it looks obscene and it makes no sense but he can't stop staring.

And when Laurent realises he is not alone anymore, he looks at Damen, smiles mischievously - like he knows Damen is having a hard time wrapping his mind around it - and then unpins his chiton. And, as the fabric falls to floor, Damen almost does he same. He wants to just fall to his knees and he doesn't care how unbecoming of a king the thought is.

"Do you like my new boots?" Laurent asks. And Damen is so stunned, his mouth so dry he can't reply.

Damen just stands there, gaping like a fish, while his head struggles to form any thought beyond Laurent naked in veretian boots and Laurent laughs a "Damianos!" and reaches for him.

And what is he to do, honestly? So he unpins his chitton and follows Laurent, hands and mouth everywhere he can touch, Laurent's laugh in his ears. And when he pushes Laurent to their bed, Laurent places one booted foot to his chest and says "Attend me."

And even if Damen could never deny Laurent anything, this he will not give Laurent, at least not right now.

"Leave them," he says and takes hold of Laurent's calf and kisses the soft leather. And then up and up and up until he has Laurent's legs draped over his shoulders and the heels of his boots digging into Damen's back and Laurent's moans filling the bedroom.

And later, much later, when Damen's lips are red and Laurent's skin is flushed, Damen starts to remove the boots The laces left marks on Laurent's skin, a fascinating crisscross pattern that Damen brings to lips to kiss again. More soothingly than sensuous this time.

But when Damen places one of his own foot to the bed and Laurent realises that Damen is still wearing his sandals, he gives a sharp intake of breath, like Damen caught him by surprise.

And then, even if Damen thought Laurent was spent, he is reaching for Damen again and Damen would never deny him, not this.

So he kisses up and up and up again placing new marks on Laurent's already reddened skin and thinking mine and mine and don't forget to reward the shoemaker.
