Thinking about BOTW Link relearning how to speak and how his accent would probably be all over the place by the time he defeats the calamity. Zelda comes back, maybe not expecting him to talk at all, or for him to speak very neatly the way it was expected from the royal guard only for this mishmash of rito, zora, goron, gerudo and so on to come out... Like does he start mimicking Zelda's accent on certain words after a while? After he spent a while in the zora domain and leans more into their way of speaking, would it be weird for the goron to hear him talk? Does he sometimes slip into gerudo words that no one in hateno understands?

I just like exploring language differences a lot

Hey native spanish speakers, please help a curious brazilian out:

I know there are different dialects but, i'm asking because despite being very similar to eu portuguese and other colonized versions, brazilian portuguese still feels different enough that it could be considered a different language depending on who you ask, and I want to know whether other language speakers feel the same way and how much being an isolated country linguistically (it's the only portuguese speaker this side of the ocean) affects my worldview

I'm seeing people from my country actually commit acts of TERRORISM and in the same breath complain about their rights being infringed upon when the law intervenes. The people who claim that it's their right to protest in 2023 are the same people who told lgbtq+ people who raised concerns about their safety and well being in 2018 to shut the fuck up and bow down to the majority.

Want to instill doubt in someone? “Change minor details in their surroundings.”

Yes, this post is about Sherlock. Specifically, about the reason for all of those pesky set design flaws that grew larger and larger as series 4 progressed.

For example, the skull picture we normally see…

…turns into this.

Or when Ella’s office looked like this…

…but turned into this.

There are hundreds of examples but how about simply one more.

John’s flat looked like this…

…but turned into this.

If you watch Many Happy Returns, which takes place before Series 3, you’ll see John’s front door doesn’t actually exist under the staircase – that was an unnecessary change in Series 4.

So what do all of these changes have to do with making an impression on the audience?  Well.  Everything.

When you want to get a group of people to doubt their own memory – or to plant new ones – you have to change things about what they already know, but don’t let on that you’ve changed anything.

And who does this for a living?

Derren Brown, the illusionist who had a cameo in The Empty Hearse. He’s also a very good friend of Mark Gatiss’. He has a fascinating video you can watch about this exact technique I’m explaining. By changing details visually, one can change how people doubt their own abilities to perceive reality, and also question their own memories.

Do you know all the outrageous things series 4 fed us?

– Mary is just an ordinary housewife with a good heart – John would never save Sherlock from a serial killer – John would beat Sherlock senseless – Sherlock simply needs love from family to complete him – John has a bunch of friends that love to look after his baby – John would blame Sherlock for any harm befalling Mary – John would easily forgive Mary for shooting his best friend in cold blood – Mary knows Sherlock and John better than anyone ever could

These things blatantly contradict everything we’ve ever known about these characters. Still don’t believe Mary is a manipulative psychopath? Go read the HLV script; it just made its rounds on the internet today.

You’ve been wondering why series 4 is so screwed up, narratively and visually? It has a purpose. It is to make the audience doubt – to make the audience doubt their own ability to comprehend reality.

PAY FUCKING ATTENTION TO IRAN

I am FURIOUS and BAFFLED that major news outlets are not covering what’s going on in Iran right now and I don’t fucking have a twitter so I can’t make noise over there, even though apparently that’s the only social media platform people pay attention to????

Students at Sharif University of Technology in Tehran have been one group of many students and professors across the nation protesting, and NOW, the regime’s security forces have LOCKED THE STUDENTS IN THE UNIVERSITY AND ARE ARRESTING THEM IN MASSES AND SHOOTING AT THEM IF THEY TRY TO ESCAPE OUT THE GATES.

You have DOZENS of teenagers running for their lives in the dark while their parents and fellow citizens are protesting outside the gates chanting “free the students”. And NOW, the they’re sending more repression forces to the University!!

A BBC article says it’s unable to verify the events at the university in the same space it writes that VIDEO FOOTAGE on social media shows students RUNNING FROM SECURITY FORCES ON CAMPUS.

THE AUDACITY.

Share as much as you can about this on all of your social media platforms. Tag as many human rights activists and groups and news outlets you can think of to get the information out there. And if you have any friends or family in Tehran, let them know if they already don’t that people are mobilising to the university. Help the students!! Use the hashtags that are going around on social media (#mahsaamini, #jinaamini, #opiran, #iranprotests, to name a few).

People outside of iran are asking how they can help. I can suggest these options:

Be our voice, spread our stories. It's important to share what's happening in Iran as much as you can. The more people hear about it, the harder it gets for governments to deny it. Acknowledgment can be a tool here.

Have peaceful gatherings and protests in front of Iran embassy in your country of residence if possible. Obviously I don't want anyone to get in trouble but if you live in a country that allows freedom of speech and peaceful protests, do it. The sense of solidarity alone helps our courage.

Demand your government to un-recognize our government as legit. We do not know Islamic republic of Iran as our representative government, we wish other countries to stop shaking hands and welcoming Islamic republic politicians in international affairs. Iran's current government is not recognized by majority of people and it shouldn't be by other nations. You can demand this by just tweeting and posting about it.
