Hey, it's been a while I've thought a lot about how to make this post but honestly, I still don't know what to say right now so I'm just gonna try and be as open and honest as I can.

My grandmother passed away last month. She was the only family member who ever truly loved me unconditionally. I have not taken it very well. I feel very alone right now and am still trying to process my grief. She was always so supportive of me and my hobbies, even though we have wildly different world views and religions (tbh her religion told her to hate my very existence). She loved me, and I miss her. One of the things we bonded over was all the different art forms we loved. She was much more into quilting than cross stitch but it never stopped her from being supportive. When I went to visit family after learning of her passing I ended up going to an antique shop nearby to cheer me up before going home. I found an unstarted and intact pattern there and decided to pick it up. I've been working on it these past few weeks as a way of working through my depression and grief. It's been a slow process, due to my disabilities and old injuries my hands don't really work that well anymore (especially for something like embroidery work), but I think it's been good for me. All this to say I don't know how long it's gonna be before I start making patterns again. I'll probably post updates on this project every once and a while, mostly just for myself but also to give you guys an idea of how close I am to finishing it, but other than that I'll mostly be silent. Once I'm done I'll start back up with the usual schedule so please have patience until then. thank you for all the support you've given me up until this point, it means the world <3

Helpful Tips for Choosing Pics

Someone messaged me today with an excellent question. They were asking if there was anything they should keep in mind while looking for potential patterns they could send me. This seems like such an important topic I decided to also make a post to help you all as well! There are quite a few things I usually have to keep in mind, but these are more like guidelines than actual rules. if there's a pattern that goes against them feel free to send me it anyway and let me know how much you want it made and I'll see what I can do ^.^ I may repost, edit, and update this list as time goes on if I think of anything else

The simpler the colors/the less blending the better. the more painted/shaded an image is, the more difficult it is to turn it into a pattern

Image size doesn't matter, however due to the way I make the patterns I can't properly translate the pattern if the image is too busy. Lots of little details usually get lost in the process of making the pattern

Ensembles of characters are ok, but keep it simple/limited. Due to the previous point the more characters that are in the pic, the less likely it is that I'll be able to make a good pattern out of it

I can only have 32 colors total in a single piece due to the program I use. While I love colorful/rainbow pieces keep in mind that I will never be able to make perfect blends of color

Words are some of the most difficult things to turn into patterns, so avoid anything with quotes or writing as a part of the image unless the quote itself is the image you want (like a stylized or funny quote on a simple quote on a simple background)

Ah this is such a lovely idea – thanks for sharing it! I've tried to do the work to translate images to cross-stitch designs before and it's so much more complicated than I expected… So I really appreciate this, Threebe, looking forward to following you. :)

Thank you so much ^.^ It's definitely hard work but since I used to do pixel art every day it was actually a pretty seamless transition for me. I love to cross-stitch, so making patterns like this was a natural evolution. I was making patterns for myself anyway since I was tired of all the free patterns being super old and boring (and almost entirely holiday themed IMO) I'm glad I decided to post them, it makes me so happy that other people can enjoy these new patterns too!
