Someone suggested that education is liberal indoctrination.
I replied,People who go to better schools and obtain a higher education are exposed to more diversity of thought and so tend to be more open-minded. Indoctrination in education as a concept is very dangerous imo though. I really don't think universities have a vendetta to put politicians in place that are discussing concepts like student loan relief and affirmative action. I was not told what to believe -- but I don't think the conspiracy adds up. College encourages independent critical thought and thorough informational analysis. It teaches us how to use evidence to support ideas.
I'd venture to suggest that primary education often excludes a lot of information and tends to follow a certain narrative that limits students' understanding of history. Books being banned from schools isn't a leftist thing... Republican politicians have done a lot to cut education funding in the past. From a non-right leaning perspective, that looks like they aren't especially concerned about the population being educated, even though being educated is associated with having better financial and health outcomes (inc. living longer). Education and information are the primary things that make someone harder to manipulate and lie to, as well. Look at impoverished countries and their education. The most educated countries do the best, period. A more educated America is a more powerful America. That's an immutable truth. That's where innovation and artistic endeavors are born. I wish everyone had the opportunity to have the kind of education you can get here.
I sometimes feel like Republican talking heads take major advantage of their supporters. News is a business. That means they will put out what grabs attention and keeps people emotional, even if it isn't true. They can reduce very nuanced thing down to the worst possible thing, so you'll be all fired up. It's hard for a person who never went through higher education to understand the language of bills and laws. So? Simplify & sauce. There's nothing out there that says TV posturing as news has to tell the truth. I learned what a trustworthy source is definitely not when I was in college.Just try to keep a somewhat open mind, question what you are told, look for evidence, and uncover what you believe to be true with your own experiences.
Happiness is a Butterly
by Lana Del Rey
lyrically inspired by the famous quote by Nathaniel Hawthorne
Happiness is a butterfly
Try to catch it like, every night
It escapes from my hands into moonlight
If he's a serial killer,
then what's the worst
That can happen to a girl who's already hurt?
I'm already hurt
If he's as bad as they say,
then I guess I'm cursed
Looking into his eyes, I think he's already hurt
He's already hurt
I said, "Don't be a jerk, don't call me a taxi"
Sitting in your sweatshirt, crying in the backseat, ooh
I just wanna dance with you
Hollywood and Vine, Black Rabbit in the alley
I just wanna hold you tight down the avenue
I just wanna dance with you
I just wanna dance
Watching Bojack Horseman honestly makes me wonder how far back half these jokes are planned.
<spoilers!>
In Season 4, when Diane goes to Vietnam, she says she wants to "get the full non-L.A. experience" and in the background there's a sign reading "nón lá," a traditional Vietnamese hat.
Season 1 Episode 11's ending of Bojack Horseman has given me chills.
"I need you to tell me that I'm good," he begs of Diane. Loon calls and his imagined daughter's laughter fill the silence, a fantasy of a comfortable, simple life of love and family in Maine with a woman he once knew. It last a few moments before a man stands up from the seats next to Bojack and says "Hey, aren't you the horse from Horsin' Around?"
Bojack has spent his entire life salving the shame frim his childhood by pursuing this illusion of fame's glory. Its carved his path and drawn him further away from the things he eventually realizes are what he wants but will never have.
