To elaborate on what I mean by “it’s wrong to see a character fight this way” I kinda mean like that time Green Lantern and Sinestro went at it without their rings. Seeing Green Lantern beat a dude over the head with a 2x4 instead of hitting him with a big green boxing glove just feels viscerally wrong and incorrect, you know?

I want that feeling.

In an ideal world Jaune and Cinder’s final battle would start like a normal RWBY fight before it slowly devolves into scratching/biting/hair pulling as they wear each other out. You should feel like it’s kinda just wrong for these characters to fight like this. I want it to end with a really ugly type of violence that feels out of place in RWBY.

I know ugly violence is a redundancy but I’m sure you know what I mean.

We’re just gonna have to agree to disagree on all this.

I just don’t think giving Jaune his “need” is nearly as satisfying as a viewer compared to what he was introduced “wanting” and what the average viewer expected him to end up achieving.

I don’t think introducing a character who’s desire is to be a hero and then repeatedly beating him down and telling him he can’t be a hero like he wanted is a very appealing story arc.

If Jaune becoming an actual hero in the way he wanted fucks up the narrative that he can’t be a hero… good.

I have a new headcanon.

Jaune’s favorite is the Shawshank Redemption because it speaks to him on a very personal level about maintaining hope in confinement and the indomitable human spirit, along with finally escaping and reclaiming some aspect of control over your life. I’d also imagine that he could connect to theme of institutionalization and struggling to readjust to life outside.

Arkos is best because they’re a perfect give/take relationship. Jaune never had anyone believe in his abilities to achieve his dream and actually become someone until he met Pyrrha and she began to train him, Pyrrha never had anyone who valued her for who she was no strings attached and was truly her friend until she met Jaune.
