I post redesigns and stuff sometimes from sort of a fake alternate Secret Six canon I have in my head (which I’ve noticed is a common thing with people in fandoms like comics that have long, shifting continuities) and in it I kind of shifted the focus of Ragdoll’s body horror aspects to have more chronic illness/disability vibes than body mod/transition vibes

basically Ragdoll Sr.’s abilities are caused by a variable genetic mutation that needs both specific hypermobility and super-strength genes in order to give the carrier full control of their body. he had multiple children with a cult follower who was an ex circus performer and more or less shared his flexibility levels in an attempt to create a suitable heir/child sidekick.

Peter and Alex were the most “successful results”, but Peter only inherited the hypermobility gene and thus could barely use his limbs and was subject to painful muscle spasms and even the risk of his joints violently rupturing through his skin if he overexerted himself. Alex fully expressed the mutation and had even greater proportional strength than her father, but also had a severely curved spine and pelvis that damaged the nerves in her right leg.

Alex became the golden child and the object of her father’s psychological projections, but often failed to live up to his expectations due to her disability, which would enrage him. Neither of them received any kind of medical care as children. And so, the expensive medication that Mockingbird uses to extort Ragdoll is functionally the same thing, but now has an added layer of capitalistic dystopian fuckery, because like, I don’t know man that kind of seems like an essential prescription to me that should be universally covered.

(also it’s a bit of ironic comedy bc like, Peter would absolutely still be a professional murderer if he didn’t need the pills, it’s his childhood dream, he just wouldn’t be fucking working in Kentucky)
