Right now I'm reading through the 60k words of SPELLMAKER (sequel to SPELLBREAKER) I drafted three months ago so I can finally finish it! And yes, my office *does* need better lighting. I CANNOT TELL YOU HOW GOOD IT FEELS TO TYPE THIS. 📚 I won't go into details here and now, but I have struggled this year with my writing. You wouldn't think it, because I have so many books releasing thanks to earlier prolificness. I haven't finished a book since SIEGE & SACRIFICE in January, and at one point I was worried I wouldn't ever be able to, despite starting so many. So being able to type THE END again feels amazing. ❤ (Many thanks to my husband who gave me the entire morning to accomplish this.) 📚 The book featured here is STAR MOTHER, which will be promptly sent in all it's rough glory to my alpha readers. Queen Victoria, the reigning monarch in my upcoming SPELLBREAKER. 📚 I saw a tweet on Twitter recently talking about research on books, and it is a huge scope for me. My WIP Star Mother, for instance? I've looked up the architecture of a cathedral and will soon have to check on moon phases. THAT'S IT. Ah, the beauty of high fantasy. But SPELLBREAKER*? So many things. I watched four seasons of a historical drama for that one. I've researched every article of women's and men's clothing. Cities, counties, buildings, architecture, hair styles, FACIAL hair styles... I've researched how the mail worked** and how checking accounts worked. I've read articles and books on Barbados and none of the story takes place there. I've even read an essay on racial relations in the eighteen hundreds (FYI, interracial marriage was not illegal in England like it was in the States). 📚 And that's why historical fiction*** is hard.
