I will forever be amused by how the chicks I named after Din, Nayru, and Farore have turned out as adults. They do not match up very well At All.

Like, they're just. Critters. Incomprehensible creechurs.

Farore: flighty beast, noisy but not the noisiest. Scraggly. Had blu-kote stains for months, adding to the disheveledness.

Din: the most skittish thang in the flock. Do Not Touch, Will Scream. Feathers untouched by other beaks. Pristine. Hates contact, will kick and thrash and rail at the skies if picked up.

Nayru: Anger Beastie, bites everyone, bites everything, bites me, also jumps onto the nearest person or perchable thing so she can feel Tall. Feral creature. Somehow not at the top of the pecking order (???).

you know what i think. i think women are starved for meaningful art and that’s why they get into witchcraft/wicca/tarot/etc. I stay as far away as possible from that stuff now, but I have to recognize that it is visually attractive. it has a history. it has a metaphysical meaning that tells a story. where else in our culture can we find that? we may see some in certain movies and video games, but those are inherently escapist; the art contained within them is not something we live out in our day-to-day.

I also think there is art in nature and our technological age is so cut off from nature, whereas witchcraft/wicca is very nature-based. it is the same sort of reaction to modernism the romanticists had, but much more nefarious. that’s why pre-Raphaelite art looks Like That. and it’s why the witch aesthetic borrows so heavily from pre-Raphaelite art. this is why Christianity must reclaim the arts and a high view of nature. in this essay i will —

#christianity #stuff #something to think about #I look at some churches and think that yeh. they really do look so... sterile #they don't look quite like a church does in my mind #I'm Catholic and I'm so used to things being bright and full of light #wood and glass and paint and such #and I'm not saying that a church without these is inferior in any way #but there is an allure to catholic architecture I have to say #I have a deep. deep love of stained glass #and a love for God's creations -- nature and humanity #but I can see the allure of wicca and witchcraft because they DO have an aesthetic to them #I have no interest in leaving my faith. let alone to become wiccan. but the visual aspect of it is beautiful #I do think that churches have become more. sterile? lately #modern architecture in general seems to be stiff and utilitarian #and it's suffocating #where is my light. where is the glass. where is the polished wood #where is the beauty made by man in a loving imitation of God's creation? #where is it. what is this sad gray angular place. what are these edges this chrome this cold world #am I in a morgue? am I upon an operating table awaiting the exposure of my viscera? am I in a lab as an experiment waiting to be evaluated? #no. I am a human on earth living my life. I am surrounded by life. #and there is no shame in liking modern architecture either #but in the church. and in society. let it be beautiful
