Liver Transplant Surgery
Liver plays a major role in the function of the body. Liver is the second most commonly transplanted organ after kidney so it is clear that liver disease is also common. Transfer of damaged liver or diseased liver into healthy liver is called as liver transplant.
 What is liver transplant?
A liver transplant is the procedure of replacing a sick liver with a bequeathed, healthy liver. Liver transplants mainly require that the blood type and body size of the donor match the person who is receiving the liver transplant. Currently about 600 liver transplants are being implemented each year in India.
·      A liver transplant is a surgical procedure performed to replace a unhealthy liver with a healthy liver from another person. The liver may come from a deceased organ donor or from a living donor. Family members or individuals who are distinct but make a good match may be able to give a portion of their liver. This type of transplant is called a living transplant. Individuals who donate a portion of their liver can live healthy lives with the remaining liver.
·    An entire liver may be transplanted, or just a section. Because the liver is the only organ in the body able to regenerate, a transplanted portion of a liver can rebuild to normal capacity within weeks.
Liver disease severe enough to require a liver transplant can come from many causes. Liver specialist has developed various systems to determine the need for the surgery. Two commonly used methods are by specific disease process or a combination of laboratory abnormalities and clinical conditions that arise from the liver disease.
Common causes of liver cirrhosis are
·         Chronic Hepatitis B
·         Chronic Hepatitis C
·         Alcoholic liver disease
·         Fatty liver disease
·         Genetic diseases
·         Autoimmune liver diseases
Liver transplants are also done for treatment of liver cancer, acute liver failure and certain bile duct diseases.
Pre transplant tests are done to evaluate the severity of the liver disease and to determine when the patient should be placed on the waiting list. Once this initial evaluation is complete, the case is presented to a review committee of physicians and other staff members of the hospital. If the person is accepted as a candidate, he or she is placed on the waiting list for a liver transplant. A recipient may undergo some of the following tests before the transplantation:
CT scan of the abdomen: This is a computerized picture of the liver that     allows the doctor to determine the liver size and to identify any     abnormalities, including liver tumours, which may interfere with the     success of a liver transplantation.
Ultrasound of the liver: This is a study that uses sound waves to create a picture of the liver and the surrounding organs. It also determines how well the blood vessels that carry blood to and from the liver are working.

What is the in vitro fertilization process?
In vitro fertilization process is popularly known as IVF. The eggs are extracted and then fertilized in a sperm sample in a dish in the laboratory. It is an assisted reproductive technology (ART) where the embryo is placed in the uterus once the fertilization is done in the laboratory.
Side effects of in vitro fertilization
Though this process is used in many cases, some side effects are also witnessed. The mother can suffer from the tenderness of the breast or she may suffer from constipation or bloating or little cramping. In some cases, urinary frequency decreases to a great extent. It is advised to call the doctor if there is breathing problem or excessive weight gain within a few days of the process.
Procedure of IVF pregnancy
Step 1
Doctors will monitor and see when your ovaries are ready for producing eggs. Once your ovaries will start producing eggs, the process will start.
Step 2
During this process, eggs are retrieved from the follicles by a slight suction process. The egg, after retrieving is placed in a culture dish and then placed in the incubator.
Step 3
Now a sperm sample is taken, either from the partner or any sperm donor. Out of them, the sperm which is most active is placed in the same chamber. In some cases, the sperm is directly injected into the egg. Doctors wait to see for a healthy embryo to develop in the incubator.
Step 4
At the final stage, the embryo which is the healthiest one is transferred to the uterus through the vagina by a small plastic tube. Finally, you are pregnant.
 Artificial insemination procedure
In artificial insemination procedure, sperm is placed into the reproductive tract of the woman using a catheter. In this process, sperms are washed and made concentrated before placing them into the tract. During the concentration process, healthy and active sperms are selected to increase the chance of pregnancy to a great extent.
What Other Procedures Can Be Combined with IVF
There are many options by which you can become pregnant, artificially. Though IVF is one of the most popular options people go for, there are other available options also. Some of them are artificial insemination, taking fertility drugs or going for donor embryos. But when you are going for IVF, it is better to follow that process only. Infusing another method along with IVF may complicate the steps of pregnancy.
