“My students are searching for purity. I teach them that they will not find it and that they need to learn to live with ambiguity—even in a liberal democracy, in which lie their greatest hopes. What I want them to see is that humans are created for communion with the living God. There is a way of being religious that is the experience of God, and it is this experience that gives them the greatest hope to negotiate the ambiguity in the world.”
Dr. Aristotle Papanikolaou, Professor of Theology, Fordham University

THE ENNEAGRAM DISAPPROVES
Everyone has their own criteria to approve and disapprove of others, and, depending on the kind of relationships they expect to have, they may be more or less selective. While some judgments may be quite reasonable for the sake of fruitful relations, some may be too extreme (imposing needless or unreachable standards). In any case, we choose who we get along with or tolerate to invest ourselves in. Yet, it is important to recognize that what we personally value does not always (if ever) determine what another is ultimately worth. You can be as picky as you like, but, if you are, know it is more about you and your preferences and aspirations (which may or may not be fair) than about how worthwhile another can be.
Through the Enneagram, we can explore a few common motives to disapprove of people, with needs and wants that may, for better or for worse, vary in degree.
Type 1. “You behave as though nothing matters and barely bother to listen to your conscience - if you even have one. I disapprove.”
Type 2. “You are selfish and, worse, wouldn’t even accept help when you clearly need it. I disapprove.”
Type 3. “Not only are you a loser, but you’re a sore loser who doesn’t do anything to improve and blames others for own failures. I disapprove.”
Type 4. “You have no sense of self and try too hard to be just like everybody else. I can’t be myself around you. I disapprove.”
Type 5. “You don’t care to truly understand issues and believe whatever is most convenient or appealing to you. I disapprove.”
Type 6. “You ignore the potential implications and consequences of your actions and cannot be trusted. I disapprove.”
Type 7. “You refuse to venture out of your comfort zone or show enthusiasm for novel experiences and things. I disapprove.”
Type 8. “You don’t stand up for yourself and break or give in too easily. You back down and away from most or all challenges. I disapprove.”
Type 9. “You don’t appreciate nor maintain peaceful contentment and it’s difficult to be at ease with you or to have diplomatic resolutions. I disapprove.”

‪It seems like a lot of body positivity things are just about expanding the circle of what is considered beautiful rather than rejecting the need to feel insecure about one's perceived attractiveness in the first place.
