It was a well-known story among armies, mostly for purposes of comedy, but still well-known nonetheless. In the early travels of what would become the kingdom's most powerful crew of warriors was a prince who failed to convince his father to assign them a healer of high power and reputation. A feud between a rebellious prince and a petty king led to a less-than-tasteful resolve. Whilst the king did technically adhere to his son's commands, he did it in the most inconveniencing way he could manage. Which led to him assigning you to the party, a peasant witch whose only source of education was the books they stole from the palace library.
Despite your multiple attempts to prove yourself as a capable healer to your party, you still found it difficult to earn any respect among the group of warriors that you travelled with. This was not to say they treated you with disrespect! Sure you were barely recognised as a vital asset in the group's success, and maybe it was difficult to interact with them in any way that didn’t regard your work, but you couldn’t call them disrespectful. It was just a lonely path to walk, and try as they might, it was impossible for the group to give you the illusion that they saw you as more than just the lousy healer the king stuck them with.
Your interactions with the rest of the group had grown sparse over the days as you made the journey back to the capital, you can’t recall the last time you had a conversation with any of them outside of the times you healed their minor wounds. You hated the times when the party were not hunting or fighting, journeys deprived you of human contact and threatened to drive you to madness. You recalled a few days ago, it must have been on the fifth day of travelling, when you considered using your magic to lure in a petty beast, so maybe someone would gain a few scrapes and have a need to talk to you. You had quickly reprimanded yourself for such thoughts, selfish wishes like that could lead to the path of a dark witch, and you would rather be alone than evil.
Though it was rare for you to be involved in conversations, Prince Todoroki called for a meeting to be held, he apparently had important matters to discuss with the group. So that’s what landed you here, sitting alone in a bustling room observing a room of people who likely didn’t care to remember your name. You couldn’t quite differentiate whether the room was too noisy or if you had become so accustomed to silence that you forgot what a room full of happiness sounded like. You didn’t have much time to truly consider it before Todoroki cleared his throat causing the noise to dim considerably.
“I called this meeting as I felt it necessary to call this meeting to warn you of the 3 members joining our party when we reach the capital” His announcement was met with various protests from all around, but the room quickly fell back into silence after he glared around the room “I have no say in the matter, King Endeavor has ordered that it be so. I am only warning you now so you do not become shocked at their arrival.”
You heard a raspy scoff from across the room, from what you could tell General Bakugou had been failing to drink the syrup you had prescribed for his throat “So what exactly will the 3 extras bring to our party? Far as I know we have every base covered.  All we really need is us warriors, your stupid magic tricks and our healer, don’t see need for anybody else” Your heart skipped a beat at the mention of you, you had never been acknowledged in the group's dynamic before.
There was a lapse of silence before Todoroki answered the question, he seemed hesitant to share whatever he was about to say “The King has ordered that we journey up to the north to tackle the increasing ogre problem they’re facing” There was a lapse of silence, when the news was met with no resistance he spoke again “The new additions will be Izuku Midoriya, Iida Tenya and Ochako Uraraka, a mage, a knight, and a healer” The room erupted into sneers as you grew cold. A new healer? Someone as highly regarded as Priestess Uraraka too! Your magic did not come close in comparison to her, she’s known to have trained in the temple all her life, well on the road to being considered a high priestess. Did this mean there was no longer any need for you in the party? Would you be replaced? That had to be the case, the healing of a peasant witch couldn’t possibly compare to holy magic.
A large pair of hands suddenly held your shoulders tightly making you jump slightly “I’m fine with the other two, but why do we need another healer? We’ve got a perfectly good one right here!” You looked up to see Commander Sero, the archer of the group. You were surprised to see him here speaking so highly of you when you barely ever saw him, long-distance fighters didn’t tend to acquire injuries often.
Todoroki hesitated slightly, as if trying to pick his next words carefully. You assumed it was for your sake, even if he didn’t care for you he was nice enough to now want to hurt your feelings. “The king thought it would be necessary to have a more…reputable healer on board, as we would likely sustain more damaging injuries” There were many looks of disgust and anger around the room, something you could only credit to the groups aversion to becoming acquainted with new members, after a few weeks of knowing her you were sure they would look back and laugh at how against the idea of her they were.
-
It had been 6 days since the new members were recruited into the party, so why were they still refusing help from Priestess Uraraka? She was everything you were if not more, she was much kinder and prettier than you, as well as being far more educated in healing techniques than you are. So why was it every time they were injured they turned to you instead of her? The only times you had seen them willingly ask her for assistance was when you were too busy to tend to them, and even then they tried to wait for you to become free. You did not understand their resistance to her healing, they speak to her far more than they ever have you. So if they are able to hold conversations that do not only consist of healing with her, why even have you in the party?
It’s clear that they prefer being around her, she regularly attends dinners and speaks plans and travels. They even celebrated her birthday, and she has only been in the party for nearly a week. You have been with them since the beginning and not once have they shown any form of interest in your birthday, you’re not even sure they know how old you are! Is it possible to prefer one healing over the other? Is it possible that your magic has caused them to find holy magic too harsh now? It’s possible that they now find what is meant to be a gentle magic harsh now after years of being forced to endure your clumsy magic.
“The group must be very fond of you” You jumped at the softness of her voice. Even though she had been working with you for nearly a week now, you were still unused to having a constant around you. “I’m unsure what you mean Priestess Uraraka” Her eyes squinted at you as you spoke, as if she didn’t know whether you were telling the truth or not. She tilted her head slightly “Is it not obvious to you? Ever since I arrived the only people who have asked me to heal them without consulting you first have been Izuku and Tenya” Before you were able to protest she spoke again “And it’s not necessary for you to address me so formally, just Uraraka is fine”
You blinked slowly before you found the courage to speak “Alright Uraraka” She beamed at you, but you were focused on how unnatural it felt to refer to someone so informally. “The only reason they prefer to come to me is because they seem to have an aversion to new people'' You watched her eyebrows furrow “I’m sure it would be a similar if not worse case if it were me that arrived so late” There was a small lapse of silence before Uraraka spoke “Why would it be a worse case if it were you who arrived later?” You looked at her confused, you were unsure why she didn’t know the answer to this question. You supposed it was the holy inclination to see the best in everyone.
“Well it is already obvious that they do not care for me, but  I assume they wouldn’t react well if they were assigned a lowly peasant witch who only learned from stolen books. It would be much more useful for them to be assigned a priest or priestess who was educated under the eyes of the Lord” Uraraka looked shocked, or confused? Having so little interactions you found it difficult to identify emotions, so you thought you would continue to elaborate for her benefit “It’s not to say peasant witches are incapable of talent, but it would have to be considered an insult to be assigned someone so uneducated and lowly, if I were not the only person the king was willing to spare I’m sure the idea of me would be met with much more resistance”
Your elaboration did not seem to help Uraraka understand anymore than before, in fact she seemed much more confused than before. As the pair of you sat in silence you wondered what you had said wrong. Maybe it was considered impure to talk down on yourself? You began to fidget as Uraraka continued to stare at you in bewildered disbelief, just as you began to scratch at the flesh of your hand she finally spoke “Is that how poorly you think of yourself?”
So you were right! Speaking lowly of your own abilities must be seen as an insult, doubting the skills that were so carefully crafted for you was sure to be seen as unholy “I apologise Priestess Uraraka, I didn't mean to insult you by speaking so lowly of myself, I am unfamiliar with the teachings of the Lord” She looked at you as if she was unsure what you were speaking about “Is that not why you asked me that question Priestess?” Your voice trembled slightly as you spoke. This must be why the group always refused to speak to you, whenever you spoke you did nothing but offend those around you.
“I asked you the question because I failed to find any truth in what you just told me. Yet you seem to believe those lies as if they’re the gospel” You had no idea what to say upon hearing those words “I envy you and your skills if I am being honest. Magic is a difficult thing to learn even when being instructed, but despite that you managed to learn it from instructions in books that barely understood the topic” You did not know what else to do other than blink, she was envious of you? Whilst travelling you had heard of a phenomena of priests growing mad with their desire to stay humble under the eyes of the Lord. This could very well be the case with Uraraka, maybe what you needed to do was prepare some herbal tea so she can feel better?
“I do not mean to undermine the words you have spoken, I’m sure you strive to speak nothing but the truth which is why I ask” You paused for a bit wondering if these words should be spoken. Though you wouldn’t be able to live with yourself if you had suspected someone had such an illness and you made no attempts to assist them “Are you ill Priestess?” She blinked slowly at you, you simply stared at her in return awaiting her answer. Maybe in that time she had grown self-aware, or she would feel insulted and request a trial to have you hanged for insulting a high level priestess in such a manner.
“Why is it you think the group does not care for you?” Again you found yourself in a position where you were just…blinking at her. You were unsure what else to do really, had the answer not been obvious? “Do you not find the answer obvious, priestess?” You think this entire interaction has baffled you enough to lose your common sense. Directly challenging the intellect of someone so much more educated than you. Before she could answer and question your insult to her, you butted in with your answer.
“Well firstly they do not like to speak to me about matters outside of our agreement, on days where we are travelling and no one is injured my interactions with them cease to exist. In fact I think the dinner where your arrival was being announced is the first time any of our interactions have not been purely transactional. Speaking of which that dinner is the first dinner I have ever attended, as it’s the only one anyone has ever showed interest in me attending” You did not stop to observe the way she was looking at you, you think you would take it all back if you did “Unlike you, they have never shown any interest in me or attempted to get to know me, in fact I’m sure most of them don’t even know my last name, or which village I come from. I don’t think I have ever been more envious of a person until the day you arrived here” You were close to tears now, you could tell by the way your voice was shaking and your eyes began to blur “Do you know for the entire 4 years I have been travelling with them they have not once tried to learn or celebrate my birthday? All it took was being here for a few days for you to accomplish everything I have ever wished for, and after 4 years they haven’t even bothered to learn my birthday.”
You fidget nervously with your hands ashamed of your sudden outburst at her “I suppose that’s why I believe they don’t care much for me” You wouldn’t look up, you couldn’t look up. You aren't entirely sure of the type of person the priestess was but you were sure there would be only one look on her face right now, pity. You stood up suddenly, feeling suffocated by the room around you “Thank you for listening Priestess Uraraka but I’m sure you will be able to handle any injuries that come our way for a while, tell the group I have departed for a walk if they bother to ask”
You hurried outside to ensure that she wouldn’t be able to convince you to stay and talk. You don’t think you would be able to handle her pretending that the group has any care for you, pointing out non-existent moments to attempt to comfort you. This is the first time you have dared to venture into the woods for months, usually sticking close to the camps the group set up in fear of getting hurt. You have been hurt enough over the years though, so what harm would a few scratches do to someone who is dying?
In the distance, you heard a few voices calling out for you. None of them called out your name, you weren’t sure if any of them even knew your name. You ran. You weren't too sure what your destination was as the forest grew denser, but you knew that for a while, it could not be here.

note; i'm not entirely sure what my goal was with writing this story, and i'm not entirely sure if i'll write a part 2 to this story, but if anyone wants it i'll write it! I lowkey underestimated how hard this story would be to write which is why it took so long, and school is starting in 2 days so I've been a bit stressed with that lol. I hope you enjoyed the story, and lmk if you want a part 2 to this! also this has gone thru one run through grammarly as the editing so if there's any mistakes don't be afraid to tell me <3

Blue and You
Tumblr media
summary; you ask megumi a silly question and he takes it 'seriously'
wc; 686
Tumblr media
“If the entire world turned blue, do you think you would be able to pick me out of the crowd?”
Megumi paused his writing to look at you, and despite your thoughts, he seemed to take your question into consideration. He always did that and you wondered how he managed to keep it up, consider your questions so genuinely when you only ever spewed insanity.
“What do you mean if the world turned blue?” He had abandoned his schoolwork to face you completely, an action that would likely receive him a lecture from his father though he didn’t seem to care much.
“Say you were like sitting in class and all of a sudden the world turned the exact same shade of blue” The answer didn’t make much sense, you hadn’t thought this out much. You suspected Megumi already knew that as you watched his eyes squint slightly in thought.
“So it would be like everything was covered in a blanket of blue?” You watched him drum his fingers along the surface of his desk as you nodded, getting slightly distracted by the quiet melody he was making with the taps of his fingers “So would everything lose all defining features?”
“Well..” You fell silent as you tried to think of the answer that would make it most difficult for him to answer “Not exactly! It would be like if everything started to wear those weird green screen suits that actors wear” You turned your head to meet his piercing gaze, his eyebrows furrowing in disbelief
“How would that even make sense?”
“Well it would be like everyone was wearing a fitted blanket of blue” You watched how his eyebrows pinched together as he squinted at you, though you couldn’t quite tell if it was in confusion or annoyance “Don’t be so judgemental Megumi!”
You watched his features relax for a split second before his lips started to slightly form a smile, like he was trying not to laugh “If you can give me an explanation as to how that works, I’ll consider answering your question”
You look at him in disbelief, not entirely believing that someone so intelligent would be unable to grasp such a simple concept “C’mon! It would be like everyone lost all their colour and just became… blue!” He raised an eyebrow in your direction as he picked his pencil back up “If you for example turned blue, then I wouldn’t be able to distinctly make out your eyes, but I would be easily able to make out your nose and lips and your hair would be all slicked down”
The corners of his lips lifted slightly as if he was about to tell you a joke “So it would be like everything was wearing a VFX suit” Your jaw dropped as you soaked in his look of amusement “That’s exactly what I said!”
“Really? I recall you saying ‘weird green screen suits that actors wear’” He swiftly dodged the pillow that you hurled in his direction “They’re the same thing!!” He smiles slightly before speaking again “I think I would still remember you” You look up at him confused “If the entire world theoretically went blue I would still remember you”
“Remember?”
“Well it would be easy to forget everything wouldn’t it? Everything would just blend into blueness”
You laughed slightly at his words “Then I think I would remember you too” You fidgeted slightly with your fingers as you looked him in the eyes.
“How so?” He asked, it was funny how much it seemed like a challenge to you.
“Like if there was a line of things and you I would be able to pick you out” You felt high on the moment, giggling for no apparent reason “It would be like blue, blue, blue, then you”
“You think so?” His pencil rolled over the top of his long forgotten work, his gaze fixed wholly on you.
“I know so” You hummed quietly, allowing silence to blanket the room, feet dangling from the edge of your chair as you listened to the quiet ticks of the clock behind you.
