Yeah... From what I heard, Wish was subject to a LOT of executive meddling.

The fact that it's most popular character is someone who didn't make it past the concept art stage due to an executive mandate should tell you everything you need to know about why it turned out the way it did.

I get the vibe that the executives wanted a very... child friendly movie because Wish skews very very young. It basically has nothing daring in it, its the film equivalent to dangling keys in front of a baby. Just bright colors and silly songs and not much substance beyond that. Which, given what we know Disney can make when they actually try and give a shit, is just so disappointing.

Yes, Wish was bad. Disney deserved better for their 100th anniversary. But the question now is: What will you do about it?

Will you just let it continue to be awful, or will you join everyone else on the internet and remake Wish in your own image? Will you rewrite the story using the better concepts that executives stupidly threw away, like Starboy, Amaya being evil, and Magnifico always being evil and eating wishes to turn into a monster resembling Genie Jafar?

I don't care enough about even the basic concept of this movie to engage with it on any other level. Sure some of their original concepts were interesting, but its not my job to take them and run with them when so many others already have.

I don't have the strength in me to try and remake that fucking movie. I'm fine with just resigning it into the realms of "well that was shit" and be done with it. And sometimes, that's all you need to do tbh.

Let It Go/Love Is An Open Door

Finally, the cover for my favorite Disney world in all of Keys to the Kingdom! I saved the best for last with this one (though this isn't the last one of these world covers I'm gonna do... :3). But yeah, I'm still so proud of the Frozen chapters, because not only did I actually make Frozen good as a Disney world (lookin at you, KH3 T_T) but I also was able to tie in some really strong themes and explore some really fun dynamics, especially the friendship between Elsa and Sora. Boy collects supportive older sibling/parental figures in Keys like crazy, man I love it.

I think I know why I love the Horizon story so much.

It's narratively post-apocalypse, but not thematically post-apocalypse.

This story isn't about a world that ended, but carries on under new laws and understandings, this is about an entirely new civilization. The history is gone, so far gone for so long that even if it were recovered now, none of it would matter because culture and science and art have already been rebuilt from scratch.

It also, unlike most post-apocalyptic stories, doesn't almost exclusively portray humanity as a plague and an enemy of life and the natural world. In this case, life didn't endure despite humanity, life endured BECAUSE of humanity.

The Horizon story is a fun, emotional, action-packed chronicle, but it's also a love letter to humanitarianism, and how important it is that we never give up no matter how hopeless the situation seems. We are a part of the natural world. We are a part of nature itself, and we are not the enemy of life. We, on our best days, are life's custodians.
