I've just realized that Elizabeth and Will's wedding clothes in DMC have the same colours of Beauty and the Beast's clothes in the most iconic scene of the Disney classic: golden and blue!

It's funny, because Beauty and the Beast (1991) is probably the most romantic Disney fairy-tale and I love the two protagonists, but I think Will and Elizabeth, as characters, are more similar to Aladdin and Jasmine of Aladdin (1992): both the girls are smart and indipendent, while the boys are kind and a little naive 😉

Furthermore, Jasmine is the Sultan's daughter and Elizabeth is the Governor's daughter, but Aladdin and Will are poor, so they feel inadequate compared to these noble princesses 😉 But, at the end of the day, love triumphs!

Perhaps Disney created Will and Elizabeth mixing the romanticism of Beauty and the Beast (a fairy-tale love) with the vivacity of Aladdin and Jasmine (also a fairy-tale love, but more amusing)... 😄

Yes, yes, I know Pirates of the Caribbean isn't a fairy-tale. But some aspects of the relationship between Will and Elizabeth reminds me a fairy-tale (the humble blacksmith and the "princess" of the story? 🤩 It's so romantic. So fabled, if the word is correct - in italian I'd say "fiabesco"). And I really love these... these tales as old as time, as Mrs. Potts sings in Beauty and the Beast. Non matter "the realism". Fairy-tales mustn't be realistic (they're symbolic, metaphorical stories!). So, yes, Belle can love the Beast, while Jasmine can tour the world on a magic carpet with Aladdin.

And a humble blacksmith can marry a governor's daughter in the eigtheenth century 😉 Because each of them loves the other and fights for the other's freedom, and he's kind and loyal while she's bold and smart, and both are brave and passionate, and together are the core of Pirates of the Caribbean. That's all.

Amazon gave us its version of the Second Age. A lot of versions are possible, because fans are never tired of Arda! 😉

Many years ago a talented italian fanwriter, Domenico, wrote Il Ciclo del Marinaio (translation: The Sailor's Cycle). It's a collection of tales about the events of the Second Age. There are both original characters, such as the protagonist Eärél (also called Erfëa, "solitary spirit"), and Tolkien's characters, such as Miriel, princess of Númenor, and her father Palantir 🙂

This is the animated short film about Eärél, made by Domenico's friend, Alessia 👇

@my-dear-philo thank you, it's an interesting point of view 🙂 For me everything fell apart when Vignette met Philo after his imprisonment: she was completely out of character and cold like an ice sheet! That poor man was beaten black and blue and she was so careless of his feelings, his wounds, his pain, that gave me the creeps! I know Philo made some terrible mistakes, but one of Vignette's trademarks in the first season was her compassion: she was impulsive, stubborn and sometimes rude, not insensitive. The screenwriters made her a fickle and unsympathetic egoist... 😔

In your opinion, what's the worst element of the second season of "Carnival Row"?

Honestly the whole plot felt convoluted, and not in a good way. It felt like the writers didn’t have a plan, or rather that it was a very different plan than season one. For me, the turning point from “this is interesting” to “what the hell is going on” was Sophie Longerbane’s death. She was quite possibly the most compelling character in the whole show, and season one really set her up for great things. Killing her off also killed the show’s narrative cohesion. After that everything went downhill.

My thoughts about the last season of “Carnival Row” (WARNING ⚠️ There are SPOILERS!)

- The plot is intriguing, but too complex for only ten episodes. The final resolution seems weak and a bit forced.

- Vignette the worst character of all 😤 I loved her in the first season, I understood her trauma and her struggles, I thought Philo hurt her too much... and, in this final season, she becomes a sort of fickle teenager who blames the others not only for their mistakes but also for hers?! Damn it, she is incapable of taking her own responsibilities ‒ in contrast with Darius and Tourmaline, who suffered a lot but behave like adults.

- Tourmaline the “replacement” of Philo? Seriously?! Folks, Tourmaline deserves a partner who puts her first. Vignette goes with her only because she is an easier choice than Philo 😑

- Darius’ death is awful and pointless. I’m not particularly involved in his relationship with Tourmaline, but their connection is undeniable... and then the screenwriters decide to kill him 😫 Why?!

- Imogen ad Agreus are cute together, but their tension after Ezra’s death seems over-the-top to me. Agreus has never tried to “control” Imogen; her accusation is a nonsense.

- Poor Berwick shouldn’t be dead 😭

- The failed improvement of the Parliament is demoralizing.

- Last but not least: Philo’s development that misses the target. For heaven’s sake, stop torturing this poor man! He must learn to love and forgive himself, but the screenwriters continue to pick on him! At the end he seems to accept his status of half-blood, but that’s not enough: he is hurt (both physically and emotionally) and lost hope. Yes, he made horrible mistakes, but he gets smacked almost all the time... and he thinks he doesn’t deserve Vignette (Vignette, who abandoned him in prison without batting an eye!), like in the first season ☹ This is unfair. Philo doesn’t love himself enough and is alone, while he deserves affection, compassion and forgiveness. What a disastrous conclusion 😔
