children outside screaming: annoying but ultimately for the greater good. children need Going Outside and Screaming Time for proper emotional development. an auditory burden I am willing to bear

Tw: deer hunting, animal death
You’re only ever keenly aware of your actual age when it suddenly becomes the for fronted center of attention. When arbitrary actions become a strenuous task, like carrying a deer back to camp. Rick or any of the others would’ve had no problem carrying this deer back to camp, but you find yourself limited in capabilities as a result of your small size. Was it malnutrition? Probably, even before the fallout everyone would’ve described you as frail.
But where were they now? Your curiosity replaced itself with pity - watching the last bit of life drain from the deers eyes. Starlight carried away into some distant land - away from the silence. You’d gotten lucky. Lucky Daryl Dixon hadn’t put an arrow between your eyes, lucky they took pity on kids. Part of you wondered if they’d still pity you if they knew what you were capable of.
Your grandfather had taught you the basics before finding yourself in that poor excuse of a community center - taught you the feeling of being at home with your finger on the trigger like a master of your own destiny. A clean kill thankfully-
“Try not to have it bleeding out next time,” Rumbled Daryls voice from behind you that made you keenly aware of the poor aim you’d had. A neck shot, not ideal, but better than losing the catch.
“At least I took the shot,” You challenge, eyes narrowed as you study the face of a man who never really liked children to begin with, but tolerated you none the less. There was a mutual respect of staying the fuck out of each others way. Eventually he grows tired of the unprecedented staring contest, and grabs the deer, slinging it over his shoulder without a second thought.
A/N: hey everyone! Kind of new to the writing scene on tumblr :3 but I’ve been an active writer myself since I was about 11 years old. I’ve decided to use my blog as a bit of an outlet and maybe get feedback. All constructive criticism is appreciated especially when it comes to grammar! (I’m so bad) hate comments or just general negativity will be ignored/deleted. Thank you :3
