YOU Can Be a Writer

If you've ever considered writing a book but thought you couldn't, let me convince you otherwise.

Writing isn't a talent you're born with. It is a skill you can develop at any age.

There is no magical moment when you become a "writer". You are a writer as soon as you decide to be one.

You can be a writer even as a full-time employee, mother, husband, etc. Writing 15-30 minutes a day can get you farther than you'd think.

There is no such thing as a "failed" book. You learn from every project, especially the ones that go poorly. Don't be afraid of failure.

Someone will benefit from your story. Whether it's a friend, a family member, five million fans, or just yourself, someone will benefit from the story you have to tell.

The Dark Lords Poison is holding a contest!

Most Loyal!! It’s time for another writing challenge! This time it will be an OS and we will have a voting form at the end to vote for your favorites! The theme will be *drum roll please* summer vacation! Which can include whatever you think your pairing does over the summer!!

Writing tip: the purpose of chapter breaks is to divide a work up according to breaks in narrative flow, not to slice a work into arbitrarily equally-sized chunks.

It’s okay to have a chapter that’s ten thousand words long followed by a chapter that’s five hundred words long.

It’s okay to have a chapter that’s one sentence long.

Heck, one of the most famous and well-regarded novels in the whole of the world’s literary canon has a chapter that contains no text at all.

The only reason you’d ever want to try to make chapters equally sized is a. you’re writing for serial publication in a printed magazine and have a fixed page count to work with, or b. your jerkass high school English teacher insisted upon it. In any other circumstance, go wild.

“Draco, how would you like to work for me?”

He leans out the door, shaving cream slathered on his face, “What kind of work?” he asks slowly.

“Well, I need someone to accompany me to a very important meeting later this week with the Weasley’s. I was recently made manager over their sales, and have a few things to attend. I wouldn’t ask, but I know you need the money, and I need the help.”

He leans back in the bathroom, and she can hear the water switch on. When he doesn’t answer, she walks over and steps in, taking a seat on the counter beside the sink. Draco continues shaving, and Hermione watches him intently.

“So what do you say?” she asks after a few minutes.

“Well how much we talking, and what does this include?” he says stopping to look her in the eyes.

“Five hundred galleons, and a few dates, only to look official,” she adds when she sees the look on his face, “and to attend the dinner with me.”

“A thousand galleons and you have a deal. But no funny business,” he says with a wink.
