I'm in love with the way Nightow draws eyes in the manga. And also OG Vash's coat now, it's very fun to draw. I would love to render these Tristamp sketches but who knows ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Excerpt from Observations on the Order Draconia in Europe, with Notes on the Oriental Breeds by Edward Howe

As a lifelong birder, I couldn't stop thinking about a comment from an earlier post about the possibility of dragon-spotters in England. So I (naturally) mocked up a page based on my bird field guides to show differences in size, weight and wing shape between the common british dragons. These are all the undersides of wings as they would be seen from the ground. The book title/author is stolen directly from His Majesty's Dragon.

I'm still basing the shape/silhouette/function off of birds, listed below if you were curious:

My drawing ref for the His Majesty's Dragons: I've been told I should most more WIPs/sketches, so here's how I construct and visualize dragons from the Temeraire series! Transcript under the cut.

His Majesty's Dragons - "Western" Dragons: dragging tails, thick/short horns, wide wings - "Eastern" Dragons: slim build, long wings, longer snouts - "Southern" Dragons (Africa/Mediterranean): Decorative structures, much more colorful, short bodies but large

Head: - Nose/jaw structure varies - Three horns - "Keratin" structures from forehead to shoulder

Wings: - "Hand-like" - "Thumb" is alula-equivalent (for landing and maneuvers) - Occasional membrane between shoulder and wrist - No joints from elbow EXCEPT Celestials - Membrane attaches above hip - Length of membranes and fingers depends on breed/specialization

The feral gang! Arkady is such a drama king.

I imagine the ferals are a very mixed bunch of color and style. I had a bunch of fun messing with dragon designs for these three, specifically Wringe's red-tipped wings and Gherni's blue porcelain look. They should probably have more scars. The ferals don't get a lot of art, and that's a shame because i think they are genuinely fun characters.

I've also spent way too long looking at it and am really dissatisfied with how it turned out. Maybe I'll try again in the future. I at least like the poses, if not all the execution. Thanks for reading!

yeah, i've been like, really into that one japanese series with the blonde, red-jacketed hero with a mechanical arm who's trying to help his brother. He's really self-sacrificing but he's trying his best. The world draws inspiration from western and catholic themes and involves a lot of violence, which our hero stands firmly against.
