What is a Digiressor?

A Digiressor is a term to refer to a agere/petregssor or flip who feels most comfortable to regress online rather real life. This can be due to the environment around them they may worry it isn’t appropriate or it could be unsafe. Or it could be that they get personally uncomfortable to do it in a physical/real life manner. But it could be a wide range of reasons, but the underlying thing is that Digiressors mainly or only regress in digital spaces, either in safe spaces or just in general when online.

My mind has seen your post on the not looking back, and I raise you a different parallel to Graysen leaving:

Before that dark wind swept in, Lucien looked back. Not to me, I realized—to someone behind me.

Pale and thin, Elain stood atop the stairs.

Their gazes locked and held.

But Elain said nothing. Did not so much as take one step downward. Lucien inclined his head in a bow, the movement hiding the gleam in his eye—the longing and sadness. And when Lucien turned to signal to Rhys to go ... He did not glance back at Elain.

Did not see the half step she took toward the stairs—as if she’d speak to him. Stop him.

Then Rhys was gone, and Lucien with him.

When I turned to offer Elain breakfast, she’d already walked away.

The way this has my Elucien flags waving in ruckus celebration. First we see, Lucien looked back. Then we see Lucien acknowledge Elain with his bow. A bow which caused him to miss her half-step, too focused on his emotions and turning towards Rhys. Yet still, he bowed his head. And she took half a step. Their movements towards each other are so brief, so delicate, so easily missed. But this pattern, for Elain specifically, in the departure of these males. I wonder if Elain's heart shattered when Graysen left, not only for how cruel he had been to her, but also because her mate had bothered to look back and Grasyen had not.

Graysen, who knew her so much longer. Who she'd given much more, if not all, of her. Her intimacy, her loyalty, her joy. She said to Lucien that Graysen had seen her, and no longer would. She'd known, even before he left, that he would not look back. But I don't think she'd known that Lucien would. That her half step was indication that his bow was welcomed, even though he had not seen her response. It makes you wonder, if Elain is so committed to avoiding Lucien not only for her grief over Graysen, her trauma in turning fae, his strange embodiment of all things fae, etc. But also for some quiet fear that should she give him her everything the way she did Graysen...he may one day leave her just the same. He may one day not see, not look for her. He does now--his gifts of pearl and gardening gloves prove that he does. But one day he might not...

Doubly tragic when you realize Azriel got her a gift which is quite symbolic of her beauty and potential, and seconds later crushed her with mistake. I think she gave the necklace back, detached herself, before she could--once again--be left staring after a male who would not look back. Should Elain ever see Gwyn wearing it, should she ever learn that Nesta's friend has a mystery solstice necklace, should she ever learn that Azriel gave it away, that would confirm to her that she was right. Had been right, to give it back before she let him hurt her further. And therein lies more potential for the Elucien book.

Feyre felt she was immoral for wanting Rhys.

Nesta felt she didn't deserve Cassian.

Elain may feel she'd be betraying herself--that bold, bright, growing person--should she want Lucien.

I love the Elucien parallel you raised because it sort of highlights the difference between the Graysen / Elain and E/riel examples.

With Graysen it was very final. It was him not looking at her, him not looking back and him walking away. It's the same with E/riel. There's no hesitancy in her actions. It's matter of fact. Elain puts the dagger right back in Azriel's hands and walks away without looking back. And while we don't know exactly how long she took to decide to return the necklace, it happened quick enough that it signifies she felt strongly in her decision.

With Elain and Lucien, it was more of a dance. He bowed to her and believing she was fine with him leaving as she needed time, he didn't wait for a response and turned away. Then she did move toward him which he missed.

While I think SJM, through her phrasing, shows the finality of Graysen and Az for Elain, Lucien’s message feels more like a "on hold for now".

And I agree with your thoughts and love your perspective. Elain gave everything she was to Graysen and he rejected her. He decided that she wasn't enough after so many others in her life already feel she's not worth much.

A Mate can see more of you than anyone. What happens if Elain truly let Lucien in, to see all of her and he too rejected her? That would probably be the worst feeling someone could have. That this person that sees all of you, more than most, has the power to completely crush your spirit if decide the don't want you after seeing all of you.

This take is actually thrilling to me because everyone wonders why Elain seemed somewhat alright with Lucien at the end of ACOWAR and regressed after that. For intrigue, it makes sense for SJM to separate them but that still didn't answer the question "why" does Elain suddenly shy away. And after the extremely painful rejection of Graysen and loss of the only other man who really saw her (her father <- which sometimes I wonder if that's who she was talking about when she said "he saw me, he will not now" as I think it gives Graysen too much credit to have really seen Elain 😂) it makes sense that she can't handle any more loss.

Az is safe because she's not drawn to him in the same way she is Lucien and she doesn't love him as she did Graysen. Az doesn't have the power to break Elain.

Yes, his rejection stung but I don't think that she was heartbroken over it which is why it only took her a few hours at most to return his gift. People can still want physical connection with others while still building walls around their heart and I think that's E/riel.
