In defense of s5 finale

I hear and see a lot of people expressing dislike of the season finale, some also in the tags and comments of my analysis/speculation posts. So I wanted to further expand on this.

Gabriel's victory -being remembered a hero despite everything wrong he did, especially abuse to Adrien- has left a sour taste in many people's mouth; many blaming the scenarists and not shying away from calling it "bad writing."

But I think that that was exactly what the scenarists wanted to do? The perfect world Gabriel leaves behind is unsettling, unfair, and I think that the creators have done their best to show that implicitly but clearly. I think that we are supposed to be irked by the finale.

Why do I think that? Because there were a lot of small things that gave the message that, as @emsylcatac iconically put it, "this is the bad place." I touched upon some of those in my previous post on how this was a victory for Gabriel and Lila, and a defeat for Ladybug. I'll try to list them more clearly here.

Gabriel a hero

This is the one thing everyone has the most problem with. At the end, Gabriel was declared the hero who gave his life to defeat the Monarch, who was none other than himself. Some artistic choices here are so over the top that I believe they were specifically made to irk us.

If the silver statue itself wasn't enough, the exact quote of Caline Bustier is:

All the rings that have been highjacked by the Monarch have been recycled into a statue in honour of the great Gabriel Agreste.

Then Tsurugi Tomoe goes on to say:

Beyond the visionary entrepreneur and genius creator that he was, we are celebrating a hero today.

See, everything bad about Gabriel has been flipped. If you count literally exploiting people visionary entrepreneurship, sure, he was that. And genius? He couldn't get the miraculouses of two teenagers for an entire year despite having all the resources, and he ended up succeeding only with the help of another extremely powerful person (Tsurugi Tomoe) and even then he ended up dying himself.

As of creator, he was literally a destructor. He destroyed Paris more times than anyone can count, and everything was fixed every time only thanks to Ladybug. Let's not also forget how he destroyed the Miraculouses to exploit their power.

Adrien's comment about his father

This is another thing many people have had problem with. It is so outrageous that I won't believe the creators would expect us to take at face value.

At the end, Adrien acknowledges that his father died to take down the Monarch, and says:

I don't know if one day I'll manage to become like him.

Lo and behold, the man who had emotionally neglected and abused his son to no end has turned into the said son's hero and role model. Adrien not only looks up to him, but also wants to make an active effort to become like him. Hell, he even doubts if he can be as good as him.

No way this line can taken at face value. There are many children's shows with abusive parental figures nowadays (like She-Ra and the Princesses of Power, the Owl House) that have all handled the conclusion to that abuse generally well. The watchers' expectations are high in this respect; the scenarists would know that such conclusion, if not ironic, would not satiate the expectations of the spectators.

Lack of accountability: Gabriel and Tomoe

As many many people have pointed out, the general lack of accountability in this season finale is infuriating. So Gabriel mentally tortured THE ENTIRE WORLD POPULATION and not only never faced consequences in life, but also is remembered as a hero in death?

What about Tomoe?

Not only she has not faced any repercussion for being basically a supervillain, but also she is still a respected public figure who can go and make a speech backed by the mayor, in front of the freaking French flag. If that doesn't irk you, I don't know what will.

Worse is that, she goes as far as saying in her speech that:

I'll make sure to continue his legacy.

So she'll continue to be evil. Great hint that she'll continue being an antagonist in season 6.

As you can see, the new world that has been created is extremely unfair and problematic. No way this can be "the good place," an actual "happy ending."

Everything is fixed! No problems anymore!

Also, you'd realise that the world is perfect, a little too perfect. It is like a green utopian dream.

Caline Bustier has been the mayor "only for a few weeks" (direct quote from the episode), and she has already fixed all the problems possible in Paris. Not only that, she has also solved inequality and class struggle (again, mentioned by herself). Let's make Caline the President of the World already.

Funny that LITERALLY ALL THE PROBLEMS of a city could be solved, while the exact same episode showed Majestia, the freaking Supergirl of the ML universe, acknowledged in her nightmare that:

Even with all my superpowers, I'll never manage to solve all the problems of the world.

Well, Bustier says that she has no superpower, that people working together can accomplish that. Kudos to her and her democratic spirit. But like, perfect city in a few weeks? Even Mayor Bourgeois who wanted to send all the trash of Paris to space would realise that that's impossible.

There is no perfect solution, yet the world is perfect

Ladybug acknowledges that there is no perfect solution to Gabriel's situation. Trying to bring back his wife, he has caused irreparable damage to himself and to Nathalie, effectively leaving Adrien an orphan. He still hopes that Ladybug can fix it all. But she can't because of the nature of the wish: for one thing gained, another thing should be lost. In Ladybug's words:

There is no perfect wish. Every time a power is used for personal gain, it causes catastrophes. (...) We'll find a solution, but it will never be as perfect as one would wish.

Interesting, given that the world ends up being completely perfect?

All the problems are solved, literally everyone is happy, Marinette and Adrien are finally together. But the wish was made for personal gain, no? So where are the consequences? Where is equivalent exchange? The catastrophe, the price of the perfect, green, just world? I think we'll see that in season 6.

The dream world

The new world is seriously giving me weird vibes. Like it is a movie set. For those who have watched The Good Place, you'd know how in the town everything feels a bit too bright, artificial, perfect. I get the same vibes from the post-wish world.

The Agreste mansion is covered by green vines?? Way to hide the atrocities that were planned and happened here.

I am getting the exact same vibes!

Also, I have expanded on that in my post on "running out of time" theme, but basically in the ML universe usually the "real" stuff are associated with the night and the rain while things that happen in the sun turn out to be fake or erased/forgotten. So the feeling that I get from this finale is that, this new "perfect" world is not genuine; that the seeming happiness it brings will be soon destroyed (I doubt erased), just as it happened in other fake reality episodes like Chat Blanc, Ephemeral, Oblivio, or Jubilation. As I argued before, this is not a permanent victory. Hell, it isn't even a real victory, not with the secret Marinette is left to keep from Adrien.

Not a real victory

Another thing that makes me think that this ending is not genuine is the lack of Chat Noir in the finale. Yes, I am a fervent Ladynoir stan who was hoping for some Ladynoir action (if not reveal) and was hugely disappointed by the lack of Chat's engagement in the final fight, but now that I think of it, this may have been on purpose.

Notice how in Conformation, Ladybug says:

Our only way to win against him is to fight him together.

And yet, soon thereafter, she is catapulted into a fight with the Monarch.

Notice also it wasn't her choice to unify the miraculouses and face the Monarch alone. She had to, because Chat Noir wasn't there.

Let's remember that this show spent the entire season 4 explaining how Ladybug assuming all the responsibility alone leads to disaster, how she needs Chat Noir to share the burden with him.

Let's also remember how in season 5, especially at the beginning of it, we see Ladybug change her behaviour towards Chat Noir: she gives him more responsibilities (the Bunny Miraculous, the identity of certain holders if I am not mistaken), and how at one point she confesses that Chat Noir has been very serious and responsible lately (and then promptly develops a crush on him).

So taking on the Monarch herself is really against everything they have built up in season 4 and the beginning of season 5. That's why I think that this "victory" is so wrong: it was "won" only by Ladybug. Maybe if Chat Noir were there, he would have prevented the Monarch from making the wish (hypothetically, then we would have an entirely different timeline). If his identity were revealed the way Marinette's was, Gabriel could have controlled him through his amok. In any case, their defeat or victory would have looked very different from this.

In the end, we must remember that this world is far from being a victory for Ladybug: she has, after all, LOST. She couldn't stop Gabriel from making the wish. And while this world looks perfect, and we got what seems like a forever happy after ending for Adrinette, their happiness is set in a non-genuine victory and world.

So I think we shouldn't be angry with the show-runners: there is a reason why this ending feels and is wrong. If it were all wonderful, it wouldn't be the season finale. It would be the finale, period. And I believe that everything that has been disturbing us in this season finale will be addressed, if not consist of the core conflict of season 6. Let's all take a deep breath and turn to fan fiction or fan art till we get the new season now :) (at least that's what I'll do lol)

💭 personal thoughts.

i wonder if any of their answers have changed after a year, especially with the youngest duo wanting to receive a confession rather than initiate one! i really wasn't expecting weesa to be on the receiving camp; i'll confess to u 5 million times weesa don't worry!! Kagami Tsurugi (Japanese: 剣鏡; born November 20, 2005) more commonly known as Ryuko, is the holder of the Dragon Miraculous which contains the power of Perfection. She is not known as Rivera _____'s girlfriend as the two have promised to keep their relationship a secret in order not to be further pulled apart by Kagami's mother, Tomoe Tsurugi.

Thoughts on Chapter 125

I swear these chapters will be the end of me-

Before I forget, Jeje’s face! After so long, we finally get to see it aaaaa :D

From the start, that played out a lot differently than what was expected. So Jeje was the one who killed Kiriko, to stop her from killing herself and so she could ascend to heaven.

I do find it interesting how Mikuni didn’t really react much despite literally watching his mother get killed, and that his first suggestion was to use Jeje’s power to convince Misono that he was the one who did it. Honestly, there could have been another excuse he could come up with and I don’t really see how that was better than telling Misono the truth as both were kinda hard to hear. Perhaps Mikuni’s always been more unhinged than we thought.

Ooh so the spring/key is their contract item. In some sense, the fact it was from a music box is really fitting for them, considering how they have a theme of puppets, dolls and in a way, clockwork. I guess that since Jeje saw Kiriko pick the box, it’s still a little reminiscent of her as well.

All three of them were in the Alicein’s basement the whole time?? Jeje we knew about, albeit differently, but Kuro and Tsubaki too? Finding out that Jeje was voluntarily sealed was interesting too, unless that fits into his desire to die as stated before due to everything that happened with his previous Eves and it was the closest to what he wanted.

Personally, I don’t know how to feel about the double barrier thing. On one hand, having that with both the Alicein and Tsukimitsu families makes sense as it’s extra security and when the heads of the families change, the barrier is broken down and reconstructed so it prevents the whole thing breaking apart if something happens to one of them. On the other hand, the changing barriers thing just doesn’t feel like a good idea to me. Then we found out Kiriko broke the barrier when the Tsukimitsu’s side was down, and accidentally freed Tsubaki when she let Jeje out.

Linked with the previous point, I’m now thinking that it probably really was Lily that put Kuro in Mahiru’s path.

To be fair, you can kinda feel sorry for Kiriko and understand her actions. Her husband cheated on her, and in wanting to make a contract with Envy, she unintentionally let Tsubaki out and then since she killed Misono’s mother, she was trying to atone but is still hearing about the things Tsubaki did. As this was only possible because of her, it really weighed heavily on her. At first, I questioned Jeje’s choice to kill Kiriko as if he really wanted to prevent it, there was other methods but then again, it could also be that it was his way of showing her mercy, knowing that she was going through that.

I’m sorry, but there’s something weirdly ironic about Shirayuki giving Iori the role of head of family when he was eighteen to prevent him from doing something reckless, and then we know he’s gone and done something reckless anyway.

Mikuni having done his own research was something I had always expected from him. What I didn’t expect was him going to a fast food restaurant so soon after but him not liking it was predictable.

Jeje taking the bag, plopping it over his head and Mikuni’s reaction 😂 Mikuni laughing was cute, I think that’s the first time we’ve seen him genuinely smiling like that? It was adorable how Jeje stacked more bags on to make him laugh more too. And thus, the origins of the paper bags xD

Tsurugi and Touma! :D So this is when Touma took Mikuni into C3 :o I genuinely thought that he would be a bit more wary as seen in Touma’s subconscious before, but Mikuni agreed quite quickly, supposedly because it might have been in his best interest.

I guess everything further established that Jeje still binds himself to Kiriko by choice, through both her son and the music box key.

I do hope that we can see what happens next and that Misono manages to interact with Mikuni since he now knows most of the truth. As always, looking forward to the next chapters :)

Welcome back to JJBA crackships! We’re back with-

Haisho!

Hato is the eldest daughter of the Higashikata family, and is one of the only family members to not commit any crimes(Daiya knows what she did). She’s a model and is very sweet, but somewhat forgetful. She looks past beauty and instead focuses on personality, which unfortunately led to the vitamin c arc and her having to fight her boyfriend with her stand Walking Heart. Hato managed to thankfully survive the part though.

Aisho Dainenjiyama is a Rock human and minor antagonist, facing off against Yasuho and Tsurugi with his stand Doobie Wah. He is quite the paranoid person, but that helped him figure out he was being tracked. He has a big heart despite being a Rokakaka dealer, and even had a girlfriend before he got into the business(who unfortunately cheated and stole his house). He did not survive his fight in the end.

There’s actually a lot of justification for this ship despite them never meeting. Aisho despite being a rock human was very passionate and caring about his partner, and Hato would probably be more than willing to deal with his nonsense. They also have an age difference of about 5 years(24 and 29).

These two idiots are a match made in Morioh

No, seriously, what the hell was he going to say? Heart stopped, breath frozen, he stared unblinking at Tsurugi. 'I love you'? 'I love you'!? Was he capable of that? He loved Misono, he knew that much. But that was different. That wasn't the kind of love Tsurugi was asking him about.

That kind of love was... Was what? A lie? A fairytale? Something one used on another to claim their attention? What did he believe? Had he ever believed in the word 'love'? Had he ever witnessed it in his lifetime? Real 'love'?

Mikuni didn't know the answer. He'd never let himself deep enough down the rabbit hole of that word to understand its reality, or lack thereof. That path was dark, terrifying. Living without that word on his tongue was comfortable, familiar. Never thinking he'd encounter it, never have to think too hard about it.

But the question required an answer. Would he say it? Would he let the toxin lacing that word burn his tongue? Let it slip into old open wounds and bones. No, say no... Damnit, why can't he say no?

No. No thoughts, no word, no pain, no fear, no loss, no 'no'."

A war. Shots fired from a loaded gun. Echoing off his chest and piercing heart. His mind and his heart, body and thoughts disagreeing on every front. The ultimate battle for his soul, raging all on the edge of that word.

He had goals, ideals. Plans that had been building for ages. Pawns and knights on a board that were his to control. How then was Tsurugi able to put him in check with a checker? This was his game! Yet no matter what he did Tsurugi rewrote the rules behind him.

"I would... say..." No, yes, how, why.

His lips were dry. Torso tight from held breaths. Yet a quivering tickled his chest. A mirthless laugh welling up from his throat. Weighing down on his figure until he sunk to his knees from the pressure. Hands gripping thighs with trembling force.

"Damn it!"

Miraculous: Tales in the Opposite Universe (Inversed Personas AU): Chapter Two part 5

This story is a fanfiction (Not an official script for an episode of the TV show). Some characters result from Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug and Cat Noir (original title: Miraculous: Les aventures de Ladybug et Chat Noir). It contains some original characters (OC) but they're fanon. Part one two three four

The three teenagers come back to the ship Liberty. They see everybody is awaiting the beginning of the debate. They blend into the growd and take place between the Alya-Nino couple, Socqueline and the Kitty Section gang.

Socqueline interpels Cerise who is accompanied of the two unexpected guests.

Socqueline: "Hey, Cerise. Mylène and her friends told me about your two 'tourists'."

The pigtail-haired girl looks at Marinette and Adrien for a short moment before turning to Cerise.

Scq: "Are they the ones ? They look identical to MDC and Adrien. Especially the blonde boy. He seems like Adrien, this chaotic boy."

C: "I present you Germaine and Nathan."

M and A (simultaneous): "Salut."

Sql (with curious tone): "Hmm… I have a question for your two new friends. (to Marinette and Adrien) Where are you from ?"

Marinette rethinks about Cerise's advice. She must say a lie but, in a world that is not hers, it's a necessary thing. Same idea for Adrien.

M: "We are from… London."

A: "That's correct. Me too. Germaine and I are travelling around the world. We arrived to Paris yesterday. For now… We don't know how long we'll here."

Scq (doubtful): "You don't… know ?"

C (moderately shouting): "They'll leave Paris once they'll have found their happiness !"

Cerise's words surprise Marinette and Adrien.

C (calming down and nervous): "I wanna say: They're happy to come at Paris. But they'll leave if they only wish, of course."

Socqueline feels impressed but she gradually expresses a delighted expression.

Scq: "Bienvenue à Paris, Germaine and Nathan."

M (bit of nervous): "Huh… Merci."

Mel announces the beginning of the debate, the mic in her hand. Everybody silents.

Ml: "May everybody listen carefully ! Our friend is coming and he will talk. There is an unexpected guest will be the next to talk. She will introduce herself in the next moment for communicate with us about the Fathom Company's actions. She must present some confidential files about that."

Wayhem cames on stage with paperforms in his hands.

Ml: "Wayhem out leader of our movement Paris against F-Lobby has the honour to announce future actions to make for Paris."

Mel gives the mic to Wayhem and leaves the platform. The ex-Ladybug boy has to speak his allocution.

W: "Bonjour mes amis. I am pleased to see all of you. Today, I still hope we can upgrade our living conditions since we put pressure on the Fathom Company. We have already succeeded many times like preventing the collège Françoise Dupont to be replaced by a business school and a shopping center, so we continue to maintain our methods for the ensuring our future."

Most of participants applaud.

M (thinking): "In this world, the collège Françoise Dupont has been threatened of demolition ? I just remember Mr Mayor who was akumatized into Maledictator had caused the demolition of her school with his hypnosis superpower on pupils and teachers one time. But here, enemies are not supervillains with magic but casual people from a company. I hope Lycène wouldn't recquire the destruction of all schools."

W: "The theme of the day focuses on the security. Some students from Fathom Academy had told some of us the Fathom Company and Tsurugi Industries are negociating with the Mayor Raincomprix about introducing: A police of bots !"

The crowd is shocked, outraged by this revelation. Especially Sabrina who becomes annoyed about the bot police plan.

Chl: "Ridiculous utterly ridiculous. Right ?"

S (to Wayhem): "Are you sure about this Robot Police story ? My dad was a policeman before being elected as mayor of Paris. Of course, he is related with Colt Fathom but it's not in his mind to accepting the police bots' thing !"

W: "I understand, Sabrina. Meanwhile, I regret to say you it's true. According to the leak, there are just ongoing negociations since a few weeks. Moreover, the unexpected guest Mel had mentioned is a teenager girl from the Fathom Academy."

The next info wonders most part of the crowd.

W: "Her name will surprise all of you. I invite Ma…"

But suddenly, before Wayhem can announce the guest star's name, a tall projectile (a desk) comes from the sky like it was thrown from we don't know. Spectators (include Marinette and Adrien) from the crowd who are horrified : ATTENTION !!!

Marinette, Adrien and Cerise who already came close to the stage are in alarm situation. No time for think, Adrien instantly goes to Wayhem, catches him and barely saves him from the projectile. This object brutally sinks into the stage. Thanks, lord. There is no casualties. For now.

A few seconds later, a noisy but terrorizing voice is heard: "ADRIIIEEEEN !!!!"

That came from the bow of the wreck. We can see a ginger-haired boy wearing a red mask and extravagant clothes: It's an akumatized villain and he holds a big slingshot on his left hand.

Adrien recognizes his voice. He remembers him: The ginger boy from yesterday !

Nino: "Hey ! Dude ! What's wrong with you ?!"

Ginger boy (to Nino): "I'm not your 'dude', moron ! I am the Thrower and I search Adrien Graham de Vanily."

N: "What Adrien ? If he was here, he would orchestrated against us and run away."

Thrower looks on the blonde boy who saved Wayhem.

Thrower (expressing annoyed): "And him ? Who is this boy ?! A look-alike, huh ?"

N: "Him ? It's Nathan. A newbie."

Thrower: "I don't believe you, moron."

The Thrower begins to point his slingshot to Nino. On his slingshot, a chair magically appears. For Adrien, that's enough ! Facing against the villain, Adrien interpels.

A: "Don't hurt my dude !"

N (perplexed): Huh ?! 'Dude' ?

A: "Yeah ! That's me. I am the real Adrien. Let these people go away. Don't hurt them !"

His words amaze the teenagers (even Nino and Wayhem) while some of them try to seek to hide for flee the villain.

N (still perplexed): "Huh… Thanks, du… Adrien."

Nino goes to join Alya and the others. For Marinette and Cerise, this is madness Adrien takes a risk to confront the villain. They must hide for transform themselves.

Th: "Hah, Adrien prince of Pranks, You f***ing bastard ! I found you."

W: "Run, Adrien !"

While the Thrower points his slingshot on Adrien, he suddenly interupted by Wayhem. Ouch ! The latter had just thrown his mic on the villain's head. The chair at the top of his weapon disappears. This unpredictable attack angers the bad guy.

Thanks to Wayhem's action, Adrien manages to flee and takes refuge under a bridge.

A: "Noboby in sight ? Fine."

Plagg: "It seems like you're the black sheep of this world, Adrien."

A: "I guess, bro. But Wayhem couldn't be able to survive to the bad guy long enough. Plagg, Claw…"

?: "Hey, dude !"
