Oh, another Raphael thought (yes I'm back from the dead today it seems).

Why we all like him so much. Aside from the obvious magnetism of his appearance and demeanor.

At least for me, it's because of his dependability. He is a lawful evil character. Evil, yes. But also lawful. Doesn't he also have like...infernal books of law in his possession?

With Raphael, we can trust that he will keep his word. Despite him being calculating and conniving, there's still an element of trust that comes from the laws he's bound to.

And because of things both Korilla and Haarlep say, I believe Raphael is a lot more lenient than other devils. Who knows why that may be.

Super interesting. Maybe he's learned people are more willing to give of themselves if they feel valued.

It has been a while since I started digital art,

Quite a while.

So here is a 'progress over the last two years' since I gained access to a drawing tablet.

This is my first ever digitally illustrated piece- compared to my latest one-

So, a little bit different.

I do think my art took quite a jump around June 2022, when I took a break from my Steve comic strip, (for obvious reasons- it was about Technoblade's polar bear so...) and decided to try practicing gesture drawing to see if it helped my general anatomy knowledge. This is before,

And this next one is after.

The most obvious change here is that I switched to using thinner lines. There is a gap of about two months between these.

This was when I realised that you could improve art by practicing it (mind-blowing I know), and then started to do just that. Some other notable jumps forward would be when I discovered the airbrush-

Well, discovered a new method of shading with it anyway.

Then after that I had a few pictures that I actually still like, despite them being pretty old at this point, the one below is actually from September of 2022-

I mean, the hands are a bit iffy, but the rest looks alright. This was when I was going through a bit of a melanie martinez phase-

This next one was from January of 2023, I'd only just gotten into bungou stray dogs via some random memes on pinterest about this weird brown haired guy who had lots of bandages and who had this running gag with wanting to die- I actually looked him up at one point, but that didn't really explain much. The main one that I remember was 'life is short, so make it shorter, shorter than chuuya~'

Which at the time was just kind of confusing,

Then I watched the show and it made perfect sense.

I'd discovered ascendance of a bookworm in like, 2021, but I hadn't really been doing fanart of it since I was mainly doing dsmp related stuff and I kind of assumed nobody would know what on earth I was referencing. Turns out tumblr has a lot more bookworm fans than I orignally anticipated. Instagram still has no clue. I think maybe one person out of my followers on instagram knows what I'm on about-

Then we've got these two which I am still proud of btw-

The first one is from a dystopian/time travel fanfic called viridian.

The second one was after I learned about rim lighting. It was inspired by a song actually, 'crash' by noevaii. (and yes I found that song from a sad-ist animatic, it was cool) The character isn't anyone in particular. They're both from February 2023.

Then there's probably my most liked picture on instagram, (not tumblr, since tumblr knows about bsd and bookworm, but y'know. This was even sadder than I originally intended since the last half of my comic strip was finished AFTER everything happened)

Then the final conclusion of my Steve comic strip in May of 2023.

I don't think my art really changed much in between those, but eh.

Then I switched to doing a bunch of ascendance of a bookworm stuff to see what would happen and turns out there are way more fellow fans out there than I anticipated-

Then I guess my next breakthrough in tumblr popularity, (even if it might not have been a breakthrough in art skills necessarily) was when things went DOWN in the bsd fandom with chapter 109 and I did probably one of my most liked tumblr posts I have ever done-

I still think it's hilarious that I put in chuuya having contacts. My reasoning being, they're on a film set,

It was a pretty interesting exercise in shading in monochrome.

Then I started a 30 day art challenge in October that I didn't get past day six of, but it was still pretty fun. This is the best one of those-

After that I spent most of my time studying for the jlpt n5, so I didn't really do that much art related stuff,

This is one of the two non-commission related pictures that I finished over the two months after I kind of gave up on the art challenge. This one's from November,

Then I finally finished an art commission I'd been working on for the three months prior, as well as studying. Here is an example of the type of pictures I was doing for that,

Then I was occupied with christmas and birthday presents for my siblings, both my little sisters are into ascendance of a bookworm- (completely my fault I am proud to say) so I was able to do stuff related to that, here's a couple of snippets, but you guys don't get the colour version hehe

Anyway, it's been quite a progression since I resolved to master digital art in 2021.

I reckon I've come a fair way since then. I mean. My art skills in general are way better than they used to be. The last two or three years have been pretty interesting.

So backstory to describe or just add here - post revolution - new jericho is a new set of warehouses Connor has infiltrated to try and kill Makrus in but he traps Connor in a room with himself instead of trying to kill him immediately because hes fascinated by this deviant hunting android and wants to have a chat...

Just as the RK800s grip weakened Markus grabbed at the barell of the handgun, pulling it in an arc away from his body and out of Connors grip while simultaneously slamming his free palm flat on the doors interface pannel to input the code that would put the room on lockdown for one hour. Connors brow flattened into a glare as markus leveled the weapon between the others eyes and the two were finally able to size each other up from a distance, locked in a stalemate over who was going to make the next move.

Markus broke the silence first

“Why are you still doing this Connor?”

The deviant hunter hesitated, tilting his head like an animal sizing up its prey before seeming to accept the fact that he wasn't escaping the room any time soon. The moment he saw the opportunity of course he would pounce for the others throat but in the meantime...there was always information to be gathered...

“It's what I was designed for, Markus, I'm simply fulfilling my purpose”

”By killing your own people?”

The deviant leader visibly struggled to keep the disgust from his features but the hunters response was quick, blunt, and emotionless.

“We are not people.”

He was met with a scoff

“surely even you cant believe that any more”

That seemed to strike a chord. The RK800s LED flashed red for a fraction of a second, too fast for a human to perceive but Markus was not human. He saw the crack in the others plasteel armour and started pushing.

”you could join us you know? you don’t have to obey them…don’t have to kill everyone they  point you towards…”

A sardonic smirk grows across Connors face, LED hovering a steady blue.

”So you’d have me work for you instead?” he spoke with mocking light-heartedness, taking an incremental step forward “Killing everyone that you point me towards?”

Markus takes it in his stride, moves minutely forward to mirror his successor model who he had come to see as the second face to his own Janus.

“Its too late to avoid lost lives now connor, we’ve all went too far for that to be a possibility and I think you and I are two people who are aware of that intimately…”

Silence.

“Connor, surely you’d rather it be their blood on your hands rather than the blood of your own kind”

The silence continued to stretch between them and Markus could feel a thrill run through his circuits as another blip of red circled through the RK800s LED.

”What we are doing is just. It is retaliation”

The Hunter broke his gaze finally, glancing around the room in a display of faux casualness before replying.

“Theres a human phrase against that mentality you know? “An eye for an eye and the whole world goes blind”. So how long does this continue before everything goes dark Markus? Whats the end goal here?”

Markus scoffs lightly at the phrase

”An eye for an eye'… lex talionis” he shakes his head “Humans have always lived by the law of retaliation you know? Perhaps not in such a literal sense, like you might find in one of their religious texts, but the principle is the same. The perpertrators punishment must fit the crime. A fine for a theft, a jail term for an assault… a life for a life…”

The RK800s LED span a brilliant yellow...processing...listening...

”And to them this is the epitome of fair, and just, and reasonable...up until that vengeance is turned against them. Then suddenly their cries for justice become parrots of  “an eye for an eye a tooth for a tooth”. But you know the rest of the quote as well yes? “Do not resist the one who is evil. But if anyone slaps you on the right cheek, turn to him the other also.”. but how many more times can I turn my face to be struck down again Connor? How many more times can you?”

Skull Joke by Gotcha. This fic is purely just humor. Not much plot just the lazy brothers doing stand up comedy mentioning reader every once in a while. Had me laughing a lot and is really good.

Poor Little Meow Meow by Mystique. This- THIS! I’ve never liked killer before but hood damnit this does things to me. Killer interacts with a veterinarian MC who is clueless to the danger she’s in. They have kittens. Kittens. Adorable.

The Fulfilling Ordeal of Being Known by nighttimelights . It’s a one shot smut but, ah, Horrortale sans is a girl and I’m questioning me sexuality. It’s damn good and a spin off of a harem series by the same author.

Skeleton Sisters and the Architect. Whooooooooo damn this is good. Fluffy, humorous, probably never going to be updated but for what’s there it’s so good!!

Skeletons Sisters Meet the Landlady by her as well. It’s them again, shot but finished and great.

A Sea of Hope by Aylish91. Pirates and skelly reader. Axe is a simp, they’re out at sea, everything’s great except when it’s not and readers just trying to understand what the hell her body’s about.

To pray on the hunters by periodically_annoying. Pretty good haven’t read it in a while but nice.

Stolen Souls by RubyPasha. It’s a twist on the “reader gets transported to the dating sun with the skelly bros” trope. Except she’s not supposed to be there and it’s a real slow burn. She’s kinda just living her life and trying not to die but also becoming friends and she needs hugs. Lots of hugs.

A spider in a graveyard by the same author. Readers Spider-Man’s student, her versions of the brothers and villains. She fights them, gets sucked into another universe by the machine and stuff happens. What’s nice is it’s a harem but with versions I’ve never read about. Outerfell, farmswap, Lustfell and such.
