Box jellyfish chirp??? 👁👁

AHHHH omg I thought I talked about box jelly chirps enough to annoy people but I guess I don't talk ab it enough???

Anyways, the video evidence is in my pinned post but I'll put it here too just in case

I suppose the word "whistle" is more accurate since it really is the sound of air rushing through the jelly but I honestly prefer using "chirp" because IT'S CUTE!!

I... Actually haven't seen any scientific literature or documentation on it (perhaps it's just something not many scientists think to talk about?), but to be honest I can see how it happens.

Box Jellyfish are the fastest known jellyfish because of their velarium (a flap of tissue on the bell margin that lets water squeeze out faster, maybe sorta like how a pressure washer does), so when oriented properly and washed up recently enough to still have the strength to move... They make that sound, haha!

#Most beached jellyfish are unable to move on land now that I think about it #I've only seen box jellyfish still flexing their muscles after being beached #I suppose it's because they're quite literally built differently #They have more... Form I suppose?#Most jellies just turn into blobs on land because they can't support their natural shape without water #But it seems like box jellyfish can. I don't think it's a radical ideal for the want of Hawai'i to become their own independent country. It should have never been taken over by the US in the first place. For a country whose entire foundation is based upon "separation from a colonial country" it's laughable that they made an entire population that was self governed into a state. It's insulting. It's already blatantly obvious that this whole country was based on lies and blood, and it only continues to perpetuate that. I'm shocked that the Hawai'ian sovereignty movement isn't mainstream even though they have been fighting for it since 1997. Fuck the American government.

London’s biggest screening party for the Eurovision Song Contest finals has been canceled, the venue Rio Cinema and organizer Eurovision Party London have said. “Following discussion with the organizers of Eurovision Party London, we have collectively decided not to screen the Grand Final of the Eurovision Song Contest this year while Israel remains in the competition,” the Rio Cinema said in a statement on X. “The Eurovision Party London has been a beloved partner of The Rio Cinema for many years, and we will continue to work with them in the future. We firmly believe that the Eurovision Song Contest has the power to bring people together across the world, and when its core values of inclusivity, equality and universality are upheld, it can be a genuine force for good. I honestly think every leftist who talks about the "revolution" like Christians talk about the rapture needs to spend a year trying to organize their workplace. Anyone who sincerely talks about building a movement so vast and all-encompassing that it overwhelms all existing power structures needs the dose of humility that comes with realizing they can't even build a movement to get people paid better at a badly run AMC Theaters where everyone already hates the manager.
