c1930 Gay Frères 18K Collar
An intricate filigreed collar necklace in 18K yellow gold made by the Swiss jeweler Gay Frères. The company was best known for producing high end watch bracelets for Rolex, but throughout the 19th and 20th century, they also produced exceptionally well-made and inventive jewelry pieces. This collar wears beautifully and moves as fluidly as silk. The design is reminiscent of French necklaces from the 1890s, but the detailing is distinctly Art Deco. Weighs 60.1 grams.

Hey there! Just wanted to drop in and say that I actually got the ring of light (yellow gold coating) from U-treasure, and along with the stupidly high shipping prices I heard that World Shopping gives you along the process (assuming it’s true), the total will come to be about ~$150-165. The product itself was ~128 😭
That is to say that u-treasure is (prob) a menace for partnering with World Shopping for international shipping. I get that they’re using quality (ish?) materials but the shipping is. Interesting. (World Shipping is one that charges relatively more than others like Zen Market(?) or From Japan, I’ve heard)
And yes this is an incoherent ramble but I also wanted to say that Obey Me also came out with an 18k gold w/ melee diamond ring of light that I never knew existed until I randomly found that U-Treasure actually brought back the rings + Luci stand that goes with it for the month of February. Not sure if this means it’ll be back in upcoming years again? Devs I’m pretty sure said it was limited edition but hm…
Oh man I'm a bit jealous, ngl! I saw the Ring of Light and I was like listen... it'd be so cool to own that. But I just cannot justify spending that amount of money on merch like this. Especially since I already have a budget in place for the game itself.
Like I'm allowed to spend a certain amount on the game what with the vip and the occasional dp purchase and that's it. I've obtained some merch, mostly fan made stuff. And that's just extra stuff that I'm like okay I feel okay about buying these things because they make me happy.
If I had more disposable income, you can bet your ass I would have bought the Ring of Light just for the Cool Factor. But yeah it's expensive already due to the gold and stuff and then add those shipping costs and OOF.
But that's just me! I'm always excited for other people being able to get them! I hope it's every bit as cool as it looks online and that you've enjoyed having it despite the horrible shipping prices!
I know very little about shipping company options but my experience is that shipping is always stupid expensive. I guess they can go with whatever company gives them the best deal. It's not like you'd be able to shop around for a Ring of Light somewhere else with better shipping prices lol.
Sometimes limited edition stuff makes a comeback, so perhaps they'll bring it back for a bit! But sometimes it never does. I think it depends on how popular it was the first time around. Like if they think they can sell everything from a second run, they might do it!
Anyway, I hope everyone who has purchased a ring from U-Treasure has obtained a good product that makes them happy and reminds them of their favorite brother! Or uh in the case of the Ring of Light reminds them of Luci. Or just the game in general lol!

The Hamilton Pulsar LED watch was the world's first digital watch, with limited edition 18k gold models selling for $2100 when it went into production in 1972.
When a prototype of the Pulsar was shown off two years earlier on the Tonight Show, Johnny Carson heard the proposed price and then quipped: "The watch will tell you the exact moment you went bankrupt!"

and a happy new year!
@brooksienewman @cagenewman @elliot-newman @lucie-newman
Kellan -
For the blueberry king, I've continued working on repurposed gold and freeforming metal work and made this 18k gold ring with you in mind with Montana sapphires scattered in since you keep the farm and the family and all the memories together. I'm hoping it'll be an heirloom for you one day to pass day to whomever you choose whether that's someone important to you, a future spouse, a future child, or just someone important in your life. The rest I went with extra cozy things for kicking around the farm. A hat to keep you warm, a extra cozy pull over when just lounging around, and a thin puffer jacket when you just need to run out quick and pull something on. Hope you know how much you mean to me even if I don't say it as often as I should. Love ya big bro. xx

Cage -
Know you're not really a random 'ring' guy but you got me back into working on jewelry and while I can work on traditional jewelry pretty easily I've been back to exploring freeforming metal design with recycled metals and this is the design that just came to me. Something that maybe you'll pass down to Colton someday. There's a 'N' inscribed on the inside for Newman so you'll know who to pass it to whenever that day comes. It's 18k all repurposed ethically with responsibly sourced brown and champagne diamonds. The band has a twisted look to give it the look of wood. Figure that gives you a bit of your touch. The rest you get a knit beanie, a leather bound book for all the pieces you need to draw and sketch you're going to make, and for Colton a kick ass outfit. The kicker, you have a ton of outfits to match him but I found a whole set for him to match with Rosalyn and Cordelia so now they can be the cool ones all together. Basically yes I made them that awesome. You're welcome. Love you xx

Elliot -
As I've been saying to a lot of people, and mostly Cage's fault, I've gotten back into working on jewelry and right now I've been working with recycled metals, and organically worked pieces. For you I used 18k gold and light montana sapphires for a band that'll fit your middle finger. Then I tried to go cozy and practical for the rest. A beanie and sweater in a color that I think just screams you, and a bag that goes from gym bag to backpack because who doesn't need multiuse products? You're the best big brother and I know I haven't gotten to say that as much lately but I hope you know that and I love you. xx

Lucie -
To my sister who I adore to pieces, I put the most time into your piece because well, I figured you would probably understand my love for working on a project that we're passionate like this the most. Not that our brothers don't they have their own things but I think you get it in a different way. I created this freeform 18k deep Montana sapphire and raw diamond ring for you to wear. It should fit your pointer finger but if you want it sized for something different let me know and it's a quick fix for me. I just hope you like it, it's probably one of my favorite things I've done in a long time. Then I went super cozy this winter with a beanie, the most cozy sweater to cuddle up in for movie nights, and slippers to keep your feet warm. Love you sis. xx

Beloved trying to pry at Terry to come up with a perfect gift for Valentine's day (since his gifts are always perfect) and he of course realizes what beloved is trying to do, and starts saying sickly sweet things that he secretly actually does mean. Like, "Oh precious, I just want you..."
---
Love, Cartier.
The advert said.
The Cartier Love Bracelets hand-wrought in 18k gold, locked with a special vermeil screwdriver. An exclusive Cartier design by Aldo Cipullo. Each bracelet, with a screwdriver, in four sizes, starting at $8000.
Terry Silver closes the glossy, black booklet brochure, tossing it aside, on the black leather seat, riding the train of his thoughts at the back of his chauffeured limousine Yes, that appealed to him. He supposed he went back to classics, even since he's met you and Cartier was about as classical of beginner's gift as it could get. A prelude of sorts. An introduction. Something the ingenue of every man like him needed to have. To lock you around a golden circlet on your wrist, tangibly representing his affections, with a screw only he possessed and kept? He was a connoisseur of history. Always. Five hundred years in the past, it would've been a chastity belt around your waist and he would've been a tyrant and strapped it around you to ensure nobody could even contemplate touching you, but him. The thought tickles him, but as things were, this was the 21st century, Los Angeles, California, a week before Valentines Day, and Terry Silver traded crude medieval contraptions for the nuances of modern, commissioned high-end jewelry. Was there really, truly, that much of a fundamental difference though?
They knew him by name at the invite-only Beverly Hills salon.
He's been a customer for decades.
His father before him too.
Naturally, you suspected a great many things where gifts he lavished you were concerned, but he figured a unique, measured golden choker for your neck, according to very precise sizing he gave to his manufacturers, functioning under the same concept as a love bracelet, locked with the same manner of mechanical screwdriver undoubtedly wasn't on your list of guesses for the holiday of love. He swerved you, utilizing charm and seduction, whenever you inquired; clever wordplay and all --- precious, you're all I'd ever want --- and there was no lies there, but much like a Angora pedigreed cat, well-fed, cherished and coveted on his lap, you had to have a collar with his nametag on you because that was simply what one did with pets. Maybe that's exactly why Terry needed to lock you up --- precisely because he wanted you so much. The savant of the Hills Cartier salon leads him into a separate room, neon-lit, halogen, high-security walk-in safe, followed by every pleasantry in the world when he presents the finished product, tucked away in a velvet, plush red box --- blood crimson --- showcasing the design intended for you, all smooth metal, flawlessness and the discreet engraving of his initials.
T.S.
On the back.
Happy Valentines day indeed.
On the 14th of February, he presents the box to you over dinner, removes the collar and fastens it around your neck, clicking it into place with a sort of finality, finding it fits as perfect as Terry Silver enjoyed all things fitting. Tucking the screwdriver safely into his pocket, into a separate box all of its own, he finds he's content with the gift. Not the last, certainly. The first of all you'll accept. What choice remained?

did you end up finding gold or silver needles/pins to try? If so, what brands did you try? I can't find a carat rating for anything but JJ needles' straight pins and DMC. "gold eye" needles clog up all my searches ;__;
hello! so, the short answer: DMC 24K gold plated needles with vinyl gloves. available at joann's in the US.
the long answer, as i spent way too much time researching metal and needles this summer (as a disclaimer, i am not a doctor or scientist, i'm just a biology undergrad, this is not medical advice):
so a metal allergy can generally be nickel or chromium. typical sewing/embroidery needles are steel (which can have nickel or chromium as its an alloy) or iron with nickel plating. the nickel plating can come off as a result of interactions with body oils and sweat on your hands and fingers (hence why old needles tend to turn black; its revealing the iron underneath!). this is a problem with anything that touches your skin for a prolonged (like several minutes or longer) time: jewelry, belt buckles, guitar strings, sewing needles. the more "free nickel" (aka ions jumping off from the metal item to your sweat/body oils, because water is a slutty polar electronegative molecule, and into your skin and bloodstream) that gets exposed to your skin, the more the skin will react. so, for example, a necklace completely plated with nickel will cause a more intense reaction than a necklace plated with a gold-steel-nickel alloy. the concentration of nickel is the key here. however, if you have a nickel allergy, sometimes even smaller concentrations will cause problems.
the goal is to minimize contact with free nickel as much as possible. this can be done with a combination of things, including plating, use of gloves, creams and ointments, and surface treatments. i'll talk about these things later in the post.
i have looked extensively for non-metal sewing needles, thinking that there were surely some plastic, wooden, ceramic, or bone needles out in production somewhere in the world. weeks of searching brought up no results except for some "viking needles" on etsy that didn't appear to be thin enough for sewing. so, until these non-metal needles get developed one day, we are stuck with metal.
so here's the breakdown on metals (without links because tumblr sucks, and only for needles because i couldn't find ANYTHING for pins):
TYPICAL SEWING NEEDLES (STEEL or IRON w/ NICKEL PLATING): has the most amount of nickel (up to 100%) and is the worst for allergies.
STAINLESS STEEL: there are multiple different types of stainless steel. stainless steel often contains nickel and chromium in different quantities. it can be safe for some people with nickel allergies because the concentration is lower, but there is still often nickel and chromium in it. TheNeedleLady.com (US) and PONY make and sell stainless steel "hypoallergenic" needles.
SURGICAL STEEL: a type of steel used for medical equipment and tools. has the least amount of nickel and chromium and is considered safe for nickel and chromium allergies because the concentration is low enough. this is also the reason why this type of steel is used medically. i haven't been able to find surgical steel sewing needles online.
PLATINUM: John James (UK) makes platinum-plated needles, but i am not comfortable recommending them because platinum is technically a heavy metal. :(
10K-14K-18K GOLD: 41.7% (10K), 58.3% (14K), or 75% (18K) gold alloys. an alloy is a metal mixed with other metals. these other metals can be steel, silver, titanium, or (you guessed it) nickel and/or chromium. generally the higher the gold content, the safer it will likely be. however, these gold alloys can still cause problems for those with nickel and chromium allergies. TheCrossstitchGuild.com makes and sells gold-plated needles in the UK. i contacted the shop's owner and she doesn't know what the karat of the gold plating is, but it is 2 microns thick.
TEMPERED STEEL: heat-treated steel or iron. if it's pure steel, it's likely fine for nickel allergies. however, some tempered steels are made with alloys that contain nickel or chromium (like in tool steels) among other metals. PONY makes tempered steel needles (half-painted) of multiple lengths, sizes, and head shapes called PONY BLACK, but these needles are only available for purchase in India, the UK, and the EU. if you're in north america, you can find them on etsy or at TheNeedleLady.com.
ANODIZED ALUMINUM: aluminum that has been electrically treated to increase hardness. many knitting and crochet needles are made of anodized aluminum and are personally what i use for those crafts. however, SOME anodized aluminum is made from aluminum alloys which can sometimes contain nickel. i have not found sewing or embroidery needles in anodized aluminum online.
TITANIUM COATED: titanium coating/plating. titanium can have alloys with nickel or chromium, but titanium itself is generally considered safe enough to be used in orthopedic or dental implants. Superior Threads makes titanium coated machine needles called ORGAN and can be purchased at SuperiorThreads.com, if you need to change your machine's needles. hand needles are available for purchase at HudsonSewingStudio.com.
STERLING SILVER: 92.5% silver and 7.5% other metals (typically copper but also germanium, zinc, platinum, silicon, and/or boron). however, sterling silver generally does not have nickel or chromium in it! i have not found needles in sterling silver online except for some manufactured before 1940. keep in mind that many needles marketed or listed as "silver" do not contain any silver and are just referring to the color of the metal. these needles are often nickel-plated so beware.
24K GOLD: 100% pure gold. has no nickel or chromium as it is pure gold and not an alloy. the safest option unless you also have a gold allergy. DMC makes 24K plated needles, but i do not know the plating's thickness. PONY also makes 24K plated needles, but i do not know their plating's thickness either.
it might be worth to buy some needles and test them with a nickel detection solution like No Nickel or Nickel Alert (these are in the US, i don't know about other countries) to be sure that they are nickel free. i would do that with any needles that are not 24K gold plated.
now, almost all needles, regardless of plating, are internally iron or steel or steel alloys, and could contain nickel or chromium. plating should be at least 2 microns thick. however, as part of natural use, the plating of your needles will flake off with time. therefore, it's important to extend the life of your needles' plating. one option is to contact your local jewelry stores and see if they offer 24K gold-plating (or other plating, such as silver), as many do, and get your needles re-plated.
another way to extend the plating's life is to use gloves. i personally like vinyl gloves, as cotton and other fabric gloves retain a lot of moisture which could affect the plating in the same way as your skin. another option is to use a protective cream or chemical barrier cream (containing EDTA) on your hands and to reapply as directed. a third option is to use a solution like Nickel Guard on the needles and to reapply before use (and possibly during and after, depending on how much you sweat).
i hope this was helpful! if anyone has any additional information or corrections, feel free to message me or add on to this post. wishing you luck with your future sewing and/or embroidery endeavors, and i hope you're able to find needles that are safe and work well for you.
