I keep complaining that I'm busy (it's a good busy, but still I feel 😵 ), but yesterday I managed to sit down and work on this lil' speedpaint of the amazing Miyavi 💙
I had the pleasure to see him in London earlier this month and I can't even start to explain how brilliant he's been (and shoutout to everyone else involved too!) and how much fun I had - much love to the amazing peeps I met while queuing too xD
Anyway, this is my little offering - keep rocking 💙

I went to a Miyavi live show and good god, what a treat! I never dreamed of getting to hear both Girls, be ambitious and Kimi ni negai wo live in this day and age. And yes, I cried a little! Shut up! Those were my favourite songs back in the day!! >A< I like his recent music as well, but nothing beats songs I loved as a teen. I'm so glad he's still performing, even after 20 years. Happy anniversary! Please keep going a little longer!

Timeline Theory
Tumblr media
First update: 9-21-23
Second update: 11-14-23
Lust update: 05-01-24 (+ S2 Theory link)
——————————————
Hi there!
After another re-watch and the head to pay attention to the small details, perhaps I have reconstructed a possible
Timeline of Helluva Boss
It would be better to define them as hypotheses. First of all, here is an outline of the episodes and their release dates.
Tumblr media
I know, I also included the one whose title we know, just for the sake of general overview. The theory for the moment covers 2 seasons out of 4 announced.
Here the synthetic timeline. From the estimate version I have removed the year here, we'll get to the reason.
Tumblr media
Here I also report some of my thoughts:
Tumblr media
Already from the first episodes there's a strong focus on clocks and time, it is much more striking in Oops, where Asmodeus' clock marks the whole day.
Tumblr media
I'm not sure about the year, but also from the analyzes carried out later, 2021 could be the year of the narrative arc that goes from Murder Family to Ozzie's.
(*) The Verosika's tour t-shirt was official and linked to the episode, at the moment I'm undecided on its validity at the year level, althought the date could be very possible.
Tumblr media
However, my research started with Seeing Stars because it's the first episode to feature an almost specific date: the 20th of a 30-day month.
In my opinion it could be April chronologically and it's agreed with the information in the subsequent episodes.
The only problem is that the full moon would't coincide with what was marked by Blitz.
Noteworthy:
Blitz's calendar suggests that the full moon that month is the 14th.
Stolas wrote in the Western Energy chat that Blitz was supposed to come that evening and that therefore the full moon was the 20th.
We are certainly either in 2021 or beyond given Moxxie's coin in Seeing Stars.
Tumblr media
From the chat we can understand that:
About a month passes between the trio Ozzie's - Queen Bee - The Circus (1 moon)
About 3 months (3 moons) pass between Seeing Stars and Western Energy
Western Energy is placed a week before Oops and among these the week told in Unhappy Campers
From Millie's flyer we know that her and Moxxie's mission ends on Friday July 17th. We know from Blitz that this lasted a week, so it started on Monday 13th July.
According to what Striker says to Crisom, Western Energy should be set around July 11th and Oops around July 18th.
We should be in 2022 though, but in that case July 17th was a Sunday.
Tumblr media
In Mammon's magnificent concert Blitz says on the call with Ozzie that it's a weekend.
There are two options:
It could be set on the week parallel (July 21-22th or 28-29th) to the events of Western-Unhappy-Oops.
It could be set on the following month (August).
Here we come to the gap:
(*) The Mammon's official t-shirt is clearly linked to the episode, but the date (2023) and month (October) cause the information to conflict.
So, at this point we have this options:
The official t-shirts are tied exclusively to the release date of the episode.
They are official or at the date level, or at the year level.
They're official and we're actually 2 years removed from Murder Family.
I think it is more canonical to consider a connection with the month of July shown in the episode and maintain the hypothesis.
Seeing Stars -> April
Wester Energy to Oops -> July
Full Moon → September 29th
——————————————
With the LVL UP on April 29th we got a new trailer for the second part of the second season. In addition, we also have a preview of the Stolas and Blitz duet from the next episode.
I dedicated a post for analysis, opinions and spoilers here.
——————————————
In the end, I report here some of the most interesting posts from Blitz and Stolas' Sinstagrams, due to that they're the only two accounts that hide canonical information.
(Thanks @timkontheunsure for the source)
Tumblr media
I underlined my opinion, they certainly respect real events but I don't think that in terms of dating they are canonical.
What a mess...
What do you think about it?
Have you noticed any other details that could clarify the mystery? Make me know it and let's solve the mystery together :}
Bye~

And a touching word from Bob Lefsetz:
https://lefsetz.com/wordpress/2023/12/12/jeffrey-foskett/
"
Jeffrey Foskett
He was a really good guy. And I’m not just saying that because he died.
I knew who Jeffrey was before I knew him. He was the guy on stage with Brian Wilson, the one hitting the high notes, the one who turned his big red guitar around during the show so we could see where it was painted “Smile.”
But I don’t remember exactly how we met. Maybe over e-mail. I could comb the archives but I don’t want to, I’m too creeped out that he died.
He was sick. Diagnosed and originally treated in the Bay Area he went to MD Anderson in Houston and they kept him alive, year after year. He’d check in on a regular basis, apropos of nothing. Tell me he was getting treatment, asking how I was and really wanting to know.
Before that we’d connect at shows. I remember when he took me to meet Brian on the tour bus. Prepping me regarding what to expect.
And the last time I saw him was with Mike Love, a few years back at the Vilar in Beaver Creek. He introduced me to Mike Love and Bruce Johnston and we all had a very interesting hang in the dressing room.
And Jeffrey was not a typical musician, he was clean, and always was, no dope and no drink. And a believer, as in religion. But you wouldn’t know all this if he didn’t tell you. And he’d had bariatric surgery, he used to weigh over 300 pounds, he’d reference this now and again. That was the funny thing about Jeffrey, he held nothing back, either about himself or those around him. He would testify not in a gossipy way, but an honest way, as if you were buddies since second grade.
And then he had to go off the road, because of his treatment, but then he went back out, even though he could no longer sing.
Let’s see…
Jeffrey checked in on February 11th, and that was the subject of his e-mail, “Checking in”.
And then again on March 3rd.
And on March 20th he said:
“I am praying for your health. Interestingly, my pre infusion drugs are Tylenol, Benadryl and Pepcid. Benadryl must be the key to no nausea.
I hope your pemphigus is under control and that you are comfortable.
Thank You for supplying me with interesting reading in the LL.
Stay Healthy. God Bless You
Jeffrey”
And on June 20th:
“Just checking in after reading ‘The Infusion’. Is your pemphigus at least under control to where you are comfortable to sleep, walk, drive, etc.?
I am doing great. For me, there is no better place than MD A. They are keeping me thriving
I’m still praying for you my friend
Love and Blessings – Jeffrey”
And on July 24th, regarding antisemitism:
“Hi Bob,
I am a Stone Christian. Jesus Christ is my Lord and Savior. Are these emails for real? I am so thoroughly disgusted that I want to crawl into a hole. From our private email exchanges, You know that I pray for you and your ongoing health situation on a daily basis. The person that wrote this garbage is a stain to all of humanity. On one hand I am grateful that you published them on the other, it literally sickens me. What happened to the world? I guess I have been so caught up in healing that I have ignored other truly important aspects of my surrounds.
I am sorry for the personal attacks on you and your Religion. It is disgraceful. My heart literally hurts
God Bless You – Jeffrey”
Where do you find friends like that? Believe me, they’re rare. And when one is that genuine, thinking of you, regularly checking in, you have an ethereal bond that goes beyond regular friendship.
When I heard of Jeffrey’s passing I thought I’d heard from him more recently, in October or so, I was surprised to find his last missive was in July. Which makes me think he had a rough time of it. And one thing they don’t tell you about cancer is it’s painful. But Jeffrey had such belief in MD Anderson that he convinced me, after years of treatment on a regular basis, that he’d be here for years to come.
But he’s not.
And many people have no idea who Jeffrey Foskett is. But those he touched, they’ll never forget him, because he was genuine, because he was a good guy. Fake was not in his bones.
What angers me most is he can’t read this, he can’t know how much he meant to me, how he touched me.
I don’t know what to do with this empty feeling. My contemporaries are dying on a regular basis. It used to be a rare event, usually through misadventure, but now… You can’t metabolize these passings. Some before their time, like Jeffrey, at 67, others like Christine McVie, who didn’t make it to 80, never mind Jeff Beck. And then Ryan O’Neal. We bonded over having CML. He was a funny guy, he lived in the present, if he brought up the past it was like you’d been there together. He was honest about his son, he had to show me his Tesla Model X, and now he’s gone at 82. That might seem old to some, but if you’re a boomer, if you’re past Medicare age, that’s scary. You count on those years, you think you’ll be active until sometime shy of 90, and then you won’t be so great, but you’ll continue to enjoy TV and a good meal and music, if you can still hear. We keep pushing finality into the distance, But one by one team members are falling by the wayside. They might be gone, but their legend lives on, even if they were not famous.
So if you’ve been to a Brian Wilson show, if you’ve seen the Beach Boys in the past decade, you experienced Jeffrey Foskett. He was the glue that held it all together. The utility man who provided what the legends no longer could. And he didn’t want notice, he was glad to be the midwife for some of the greatest music of all time.
Yes, first and foremost Jeffrey Foskett was a Beach Boys fan. The fact that he got to play with his idols?
You can’t ask for much more than that.
He was cut down before his time, but he exceeded his dream.
May he live in an endless summer ever after."

Highlights of 2023: Strides That Humanity Achieved in the Year
Tumblr media
As we slowly ride to the culmination of 2023, it is time to look back at the year. The year of 2023 brought a lot of headlines. India being on the verge of winning the ICC Men’s World Cup shattered the hearts of millions. Meanwhile, Greta Gerwig’s Barbie and Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer clashed at the box office, creating a phenomenon that would shatter most box office records. Social Media sites were re-branded and concert films were all the rage with Eras Tour becoming a huge success.
With our diary of 2023 almost finished, we would like to look at some of the positive news that rekindles our hope for humanity. These happenings of 2023 prove that even during the most dire of circumstances, humans would strive to achieve newer heights.
Launch and Landing of Chandrayaan-3
Tumblr media
On 23rd August, 2023, the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) made everyone proud by landing Chandrayaan-3 near the lunar south pole of the moon. The objective of the mission is to help discover the physical characteristics of the surface of the Moon, the atmosphere close to the surface and the tectonic activity to study what goes on below the surface.
Tumblr media
While people cheer and hoot for men’s sports, women’s sports have been looked down upon throughout history. However, things seem to be changing as 2023 provided a new hope for female athletes all over the world. Women’s sports saw record viewership. The trend was observed in the Women’s FIFA World Cup and 2023 US Open — Women’s singles. The FIFA World Cup saw 2 million people attending stadiums and an estimated 2 billion people watched the World Cup from their homes, cheering on their teams. Meanwhile, the US Open women’s final featuring Coco Gauff and Aryna Sabalenka drew more viewership than the men’s finals which included Novak Djokovic and Daniil Medvedev. Coco Gauff vs Aryna Sabalenka was watched by 3.4 million viewers, while Novak Djokovic vs Daniil Medvedev was watched by 2.3 million viewers. We hope that similar trends get observed in all women’s sporting events.
Tumblr media
The World Health Organization (WHO) approved a malaria vaccine that will make it accessible to poorer countries. The vaccine has been developed by Oxford University. The vaccine was said to reduce symptomatic cases by 75%, according to WHO. The vaccine only costs $2–4 per dose, making it possible to finally eliminate the disease.
Tumblr media
In the United Nations (UN) meeting in New York, the Treaty of the High Seas, aka Biodiversity Beyond National Jurisdiction, was signed on 20th September, 2023 by 84 countries. The treaty will establish large-scale marine protected areas on the high seas to effectively conserve and manage 30% of land and sea. It also includes rules for conducting environmental impact assessments.
Tumblr media
According to the data released by Brazil’s National Space Research Institute (INPE), deforestation in Brazil fell by 33.6% in the Amazon Rainforest. The President of Brazil, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, has vowed to end deforestation by 2030. With its current upward momentum, we wish Brazil achieves its target and proves to the world that environmental stability is possible in today’s globalizing world.
Filaantro also had a monumental year. With its crowdfunding partner, Child Help Foundation, Filaantro helped 23,62,704 people. Thank you for reading this article. Make sure to share it with all your friends and family members.

Joburg, South Africa. March 10, 2023. 5:18a local time.
Saturday morning here. Final day in Johannesburg. Tomorrow we fly for 2 hours to Durban, which is on the southeast coast of South Africa. From Durban we journey — by bus, I think — for 4 hours to Phinda Game Preserve.
Phinda is owned by &Beyond, which is a luxury ecotourism business headquartered in Joburg. It has locations all over southern (not South!) Africa, (eg, Botswana, Tanzania ) South America (eg, Peru, Galápagos Islands, Chili) and the Himalayas (India, Nepal, Bhutan). The company either owns the land or rents it from private owners, corporations or governments. I am writing so much about it as one of my company visits yesterday was &Beyond. Despite having locations around the world, their very first was Phinda! What’s cool about them is that they blend a luxury experience with wildlife conservation. The shareholders in the business — which includes the Getty family — have never taken a dividend; their profits always reinvested in the business, which has allowed them to expand well beyond South Africa. They’ve help save the Black Rhino in Botswana, as an example, by transporting them from SA to Botswana to reintroduce them into the latter. They transport by way of a 747 Boeing aircraft!
Another visit was to the African Leadership Academy. Wow! I loved this one, too. It’s a 2-year boarding school outside of Joburg (45 min drive) for 16-20 year olds, who are aiming to go to college. Several of their students find their way to the US for undergrad. However, it’s expected that they will return to the continent of Africa — even by age 25 I think — to have an impact on their native lands. I met kids from the Congo, Burkina Faso, Uganda, Saudi Arabia (with ties to Sudan), Nigeria, Morocco, Tunisia, Algeria, Zimbabwe, etc. Unreal! Donors to the school include Michael Dell and Mike Bloomberg. Bill Gates sent his daughter, Phoebe, there for a 3-month experience. There’s a heavy emphasis on entrepreneurial leadership, African studies, and writing and rhetoric. Yesterday was their Super Bowl-equivalent: E-Fest. 24 Groups of 4 students had to pitch a business of their own to a group of panelists, with 1 ultimate winner. I listened to one group that was working on bridging the digital divide: a lack of internet access in communities. School was founded in 2008 by 4 McKinsey consultants. 260 students total. In the school’s history, 85% of African countries have been represented. I asked how they can get the others; the school’s dean said: “We’ll get there.”
The day before I visited the Apartheid Museum. Admittedly, I was suffering from serious jet lag; therefore, I wasn’t able to do it quite the justice I would have liked — or that it deserves. Critically, today we gain another deeply cultural experience by touring Soweto, which is an impoverished community that is 99% Black African. People such as Nelson Mandela, Desmond Tutu and the comedian, Trevor Noah, have called it home. In fact, we will tour Mandela’s home today. Speaking of the former president, he was imprisoned for 27 years! Famously taking a stance of non-violence in his rebellion against the white regime. He was imprisoned in Robben Island Prison, which is likened to Alcatraz.
An incredibly oversimplified history of South Africa goes roughly as follows. The Dutch came first. Many of whom were simply farmers. These people were known as Boers, or “farmers” in Dutch. (If one speaks Afrikaans, they are speaking a South African offshoot of Dutch; a la the actress Charlize Theron.) Diamonds were discovered in the late 1800s. This attracted the British, who journeyed to the Cape of South Africa on the heels of the Boers. This forced the Boers to move inland, a historical event known as “The Great Trek.” At the turn of the 20th century, fighting ensued, which led to the Boer Wars. (In fact, Winston Churchill — in his early 20s — fought in this. He did it purposefully, hoping that he would see battle (he did) so that his reputation would be enhanced before his political aspirations. He did the same thing in India; it was successful.) The British won. Fast forward to post-WW2 1948 when the Apartheid Era began and would not end until 1994. Apartheid is an Afrikaans word meaning “separateness.” It was borne out of Afrikaaner nationalism following their struggles from The Great Trek and the Boer wars. What ensued is a terrible history of segregating people based on their race.
That brings me to Soweto. Apartheid only ended 29 years ago. 1994! Contrast that to the US civil rights movement ending 55 years ago in 1968. If you can feel racial tensions in the US, the feeling is truly palpable here. (Nod to my discussion with Nathi arriving to Joburg.) Soweto will bring this to light to me. Honestly, this tortured past is felt today in the extremely high level of crime. It leaves me feeling, in my limited perspective, that Johannesburg is a broken city. I can’t access but a sliver of it. Our experience here is so controlled. We’re in a gated community covered by barbed wire and an armed security guard. My only journey into “town” is at a luxury mall that feels like it could be anywhere. This mall is in the affluent part of town and is also heavily guarded and fully secure, but it leaves me feeling like I have no clue what the true SA is. The food we have been eating is at these luxury restaurants that are steak shops, etc — nothing that embraces South African fare. I’ve been trying to find a real local food experience, but none can be accessed because they aren’t in the “right” neighborhood. My favorite things to do in a new place are to eat local food and to walk. Neither have been possible. That’s a tragic story. (I want to note that these reflections are constrained to my limited 2-day experience.)
As we journey to the mall to eat at fine restaurants that could be anywhere, I see locals struggling to get by, walking miles upon miles to and from work. Trash literally overflows from dumpsters like a glass full of marbles that has been tipped over. It’s important for me to acknowledge these facts. It makes me grateful to be in the position that I am in and it makes me appreciate why crime is committed here. Life just isn’t fair and it’s extra unfair in Johannesburg.
Additional rapid-fire thoughts.
I like pap. It’s like grits. Grounded down corn into a white paste. Had it yesterday for lunch at the African Leadership Academy. Goes well with their jerk chicken-like meals.
The electrical grid in SA does not work properly. There is not enough supply to cover the demand of its citizens. The result? Throughout the country, each day, the power goes out for 2-6 hours. This ensures that the hobbled grid does not die our forever. We don’t notice this at our hotel or the luxury mall, which are conspicuously unaffected — I think we know why … — but it’s been noticeable at our tour at ALA and &Beyond. It will certainly be noticeable in Soweto. Lights flicker, turn off, until the back-up generator coughs and kicks on. This (mostly) equal distribution of energy cut offs are known by the euphemism of “load sharing.”
Will share photos later!

She headlined The Root 100 gala honoring Black Excellence at Harlem’s iconic Apollo Theater and is set to announce a debut solo live worship album in the coming weeks. “God calls us to advance His Kingdom, in part, through unity and collaboration,” says Tasha Cobbs Leonard. “I’m so excited to join these incredible artists— my sisters— on this tour. This is the move that we’ve been praying for! IT’S TIME!” Tasha Cobbs Leonard is a platinum-selling, Grammy, Billboard Music, Stellar, and Dove Award-winning, “gospel sensation” (NPR Music) who has firmly established herself as one of gospel’s leading voices. In 2022, Leonard released her highly anticipated live album HYMNS, one of the biggest gospel albums of the year. The LP is a larger-than-life reimagining of classic hymns of love and grace, one that speaks to our modern world even as it reaches far beyond it. She has recently appeared on Good Morning America, BET Soul Train Awards, The Tamron Hall Show, The Jennifer Hudson Show –– and has a lot more planned for 2023. Natalie Grant is a 9x GRAMMY nominated and 5x GMA Dove Award-winning artists who has garnered more than 500 million streams and multiple number #1 albums and singles on the Billboard Charts. Grant’s latest single “You Will Be Found” with Cory Asbury was released December 16. TAYA made a name for herself as the lead vocalist on Hillsong United track “Oceans (Where Feet May Fail),” which reached No. 1 on several Billboard charts and reached RIAA platinum status. Since Acey showed one of the Metal Hammer pages from the tribute which mentions it, I guess I can say some details. It stings a bit. There was meant to be a Murderdolls reunion tour with the original members. It may be still happening in 2023, originally it was meant for 2022 for the 20th anniversary of Beyond The Valley of the Murderdolls.
Joey was meant to be there too, he'd confirmed it. They'd booked dates and everything seemed pretty set. But of course, unfortunately Joey passed away and Wednesday's own tour was pushed back to 2022.
So who knows if it's still going to happen, I hope they do

Range Rover Ranks Amongst The Top Ten in The Automotive Industry’s Most Desirable Builds
Usurping the traditional role of art, cars – like movies and music – are collaborative creations, projecting a collective yearning and an aesthetic proposition to the world. With a multitude of distinct styles, mechanics, and silhouettes present in the automotive industry, high-end motors are not the only desirable builds available. In fact, when ranked amongst the top ten most Insta-worthy rides, most classic series’ knock their limited edition counterparts, right out of the park.
Range Rover Ranks Amongst The Top Ten in The Automotive Industry’s Most Desirable Builds
Range Rover
Ranking effortlessly at number one, is a British brand of four-wheel drive vehicles, comprising solely upmarket luxury SUV cars. Having received a 1951 Royal Warrant by King George VI and a Queen’s Award for Enterprise in 2001, Land Rover is a highly esteemed household name, with outstanding contributions to international trade. Loved from the time of its inception with powerful owners like Winston Churchill, the Beckhams and the Kardashians, Range Rovers showcase a uniquely, compelling appeal, up till this day.
Land Rover
Originally dubbed the Land Rover Ninety, this British four-wheel drive, off-road vehicle developed in the 1980s from the original Land Rover series, was launched at the Amsterdam Motor Show in April 1948. Characterized by its rugged versatility, the Defender is revered for its sturdy, steel ladder chassis and an aluminium alloy bodywork. With an estimated two million units over a continuous production period of 67 years, the Defender had amassed an impenetrable reputation for seamlessly conquering rough terrain and dangerous roads.
Mini Cooper
Tiny, endearing and stylish beyond compare, the British automotive marque founded in 1969, and owned by German automotive company BMW since 2000, is revered for their varied range of miniature cars. Considered one of the most iconic cars of the 1960s and the second most influential car of the 20th Century, Mini Cooper is renowned for their space-saving front-wheel-drive layout, which has since influenced generations of car-makers.
Ferrari California
A considerably younger version of the Porsche 911, the Ferrari California is a grand touring sports car with a two-door 2+2 hard top convertible, powered by a front-mid mounted, rear wheel drive, naturally aspirated 4.3 litre V8 engine. Significantly powerful and impressive, the 2008 Ferrari California is anything but conservative.
Ford Mustang
Currently in its sixth generation, the Mustang has earned its title as the fifth-best selling Ford car nameplate, and the poster-vehicle of the ‘pony’ automobile segment. Developed to be a highly styled line of sporty coupes and convertibles derived from existing models, the early Mustang was characterised by its rear-wheel drive system, and distinctive long-hood-and-short-deck proportion. Encompassing the full beauty and brutishness of American culture on wheels, the Ford Mustang is a classic which will forever grace the automobile industry’s top ten builds.
Nissan GT-R
Amidst the hushed whispers of a possible R36 hybrid monster in 2023, the original Nissan GT-R series from 2007, was an immediate success. This high-performance sports car and grand tourer was a direct successor, though no longer part of the range, to the Skyline GT-R. Triumphing on both road and track, the Nissan GT-R’s immense popularity had earned it multiple exclusive rereleases, including, the Black Edition and NISMO N-Attack.
Jeep
Showcasing everything from military vehicles to modern, tricked-out cruisers on the Las Vegas strip, this world acclaimed American range of sport utility vehicles has garnered unyielding support and adoration over the course of its existence. Arguably the most diverse automaker in the game, Jeep supplies both crossovers and fully off-road worthy SUVs, pickup trucks, miniature vans and other roadsters. Most revered for its series of compact and mid-size four-wheel drive off-road SUVs, the Jeep Wrangler closely takes after its World War II predecessor, making it a direct descendant of the original military model. Despite the minute differences of each model, brand-enthusiasts can always expect Jeep’s consistent solid axles and an open top design, making it synonymous with adventure.
Porsche 911
Eighth on this list but fifth in a 1999 poll for ‘International Car of the Century’, the Porsche 911 is a two-door, 2+2 high performance rear-engined sports car, introduced in September 1964 by Porsche AG of Stuttgart, Germany. Maintaining its basic concept, despite continuous development, the Porsche 911 is one of the oldest sports coupé nameplates still in production with over one million manufactured, as of May 2017.
Audi R8
A dream car for many, the Lamborghini Gallardo platform-inspired, mid-engine sports car by Audi is revered for its 2-seater layout which utilize the brand’s trademark quattro permanent all-wheel drive system. Initially introduced in 2006, the first-ever Audi R8 appeared at the 2003 International Geneva Motor Show and the 2003 Frankfurt International Motor Show, before being launched on the market in September 2006. As the first production car with LED headlamps, the R8 has featured in innumerable blockbuster trilogies including, Iron Man, Fifty Shades, as well as, Fast and Furious.
VW Beetle
Introduced by Volkswagen in 1997, this two-door, rear-engine, compact car is regarded a ‘people’s car’, presenting the perfect family vehicle which accommodates up to five occupants. Conceptualised by the leader of Nazi Germany, Adolf Hitler, the Beetle is a highly functional and simplistic build, and has since catapulted in its popularity and advancements. With a mechanical shift toward both a front-engine placement, and front-wheel drive, the Beetle currently features separate fenders, vestigial running boards, sloping headlamps, large round taillights, and a high rounded roofline. It is also available in a multitude of designs including an exclusive Malibu Barbie theme, alongside other convertible alternatives.

Disney Cruises Have Big Fans Who Don’t Bring Along Children
Following The Walt Disney Company announcement to build two additional cruise ships earlier today, Disney Cruise Line celebrated with guests onboard the Disney Magic during a very special Sail Away Party. Chloe Rice / Disney Cruise Line
Skift Take: Disney’s cruise product is top notch, but we doubt you’d see adults tattooing themselves if it wasn’t for a life-long affinity for the larger Disney brand.
— Jason Clampet
Joanne and Gerald “John” Gerrity, the fifth-generation owners of a kielbasa shop in Nanticoke, Pa., booked their 100th Disney cruise in September. And no—they’re not sailing with young children. For that matter, they’re not sailing with children at all.
Their obsession started in 2000, when a customer told them about the cruise line. They had already taken the kids to Walt Disney World and thought it would be a fun family vacation—their kids were 13 and 14 at the time. But John wasn’t so sure. As Joanne recalls, “He took his pointer finger and shook it at me and went, ‘If I don’t have a good time, this is all your fault.’ ” Much to John’s surprise, they got hooked, sometimes taking their kids along for the ride, but sometimes not.
Now they often leave their kids in charge of the kielbasa shop and book back-to-back sailings, staying on a Disney ship for 20 days or more. “We don’t even care where we go with them anymore. We just open the brochure, book, and go,” said John, 54. “We’d do more if we could get the time off.”
The Gerritys are not alone. According to the industry website CruiseCritic.com—which is like TripAdvisor for seafarers—Disney Cruise Line gets higher average ratings from passengers without children than from those with them. (The company is immensely popular with both demographics.)
On the cusp of its 20th year of sailing, Disney Cruise Line has been around long enough to have megafans—even if kids who grew up sailing with the company have yet to get their first job out of college. So why do grown-ups have such a soft spot for Disney Cruise Line? “Quality. The quality is there, the food, the cleanliness,” said John. “The crew,” added Joanne, 53. “They are so friendly.”
All Ages Welcome
Disney currently runs four cruise ships, and three more vessels are on the way between 2021 and 2023. With an eventual total capacity of more than 21,000 passengers among the seven vessels—each carries between 2,700 and 4,000 tourists—the company is thinking beyond any one demographic. Industry insiders estimate about a fifth of adult passengers come onboard the ships without children, and they are a growing presence, especially on sailings in mid-September when children are recently back in school.
The first ship, the 2,700-passenger Disney Magic, debuted in 1998 with a unique family focus: It promised everything from extensive kids’ programming to a dining scheme that allows you to eat in a different restaurant every night (so that youngsters don’t get bored), but with the same waitstaff for familiarity.
Disney’s strength, however, is catering to all members of the family—and therefore all ages, according to Ozer Balli, the line’s vice president of hotel operations. Several ship features are designed to give parents time off, such as an adults-only pool, upscale spas, nightclubs, romantic restaurants, and after-hours lounges such as the popular Champagne bar Pink on the 4,000-passenger Disney Dream. But they play well with other grown-ups, too.
Select “Port Adventures” are reserved for adults, such as a Bacardi rum tour in San Juan, Puerto Rico. On Castaway Cay, Disney’s pristine private Bahamas island, a patch of beach is reserved for those aged 18 and up, and a 5-kilometer run is popular with adults. Others are attracted by the tug-at-your-heartstrings, Disney-centric musicals or the first-run movie showings in digital 3-D. Some even say they’re in it for appearances by characters such as Disney princesses, superheroes, and, of course, Mickey and Minnie Mouse.
“The character meet-and-greets are great because the lines are generally shorter than in the parks,” said Heidi Leppert, 35, who lives near San Diego, frequents Disneyland, and recently took her first Disney cruise. “So if you want to get your picture taken with Mickey or Minnie, you may only have to wait in line for 10 minutes.” Her husband, Jason Leppert, 33, founding editor of the website PopularCruising.com, has now sailed with Disney 10 times and is a fan of the AquaDuck water coaster on the Disney Dream and its sister ship Disney Fantasy.
Model Behavior
But wait. How are Disney cruises relaxing when you’re surrounded by hundreds if not thousands of screaming kids?
“We get asked that question,” said Joanne Gerrity. “Neither of us is bothered by them. It’s not the kid anyway—it’s the parent who’s the problem.” John, her husband, added, “On Disney Cruise Line, the children are generally better behaved than they are on some of the other lines. I think they are more content with the kids’ program.”
There are also kids-only and adults-only areas. “They keep them separate,” said John. “We don’t find we have any trouble with that; probably not as much as anywhere else you’d go, like in a public restaurant.” Plus, the Gerritys don’t drink alcohol and don’t care that there ’s no casino onboard Disney ships. Typically they ’re in bed by 10 p.m.
Joanne added that she and John enjoy watching interactions between the crew and the kids onboard, especially in the dining rooms. “They come along and cut their food. They hug them. It’s really warm to watch that,” she said.
Channeling Your Inner Child
“What I usually tell people is if you’re an adult and the idea of going to the parks is horrible to you, then you might not like the Disney cruise,” said Heidi Leppert, the lover of character meet-and-greets. “It’s going to be in the same genre.” But if you want to get that feeling of stepping on the ship and feeling like a kid again, the same way you do when you ’re going to the parks, then a Disney cruise is great.
“There’s a subculture of adults who, like us, have these great feelings about going to Disney,” she said.
That includes David and Laura Valovcin. After petting snow dog puppies in Skagway, Alaska, the pair were about to try their hand at gold panning on a shore excursion off the 2,700-passenger Disney Wonder.
“We’re big kids when it comes to this,” said David, 40, who works in information technology for Nasdaq. On his third Disney cruise, he was sporting a Donald Duck T-shirt and cap.
“We’re Disney fans,” said Laura, 37, a schoolteacher on her fifth sailing with Disney Cruise Line. “We also visit the parks at least once a year, and I think we just love the experiences they offer.”
Among the experiences the Lepperts and Valovcins would recognize from the parks are giant smoked turkey legs, served on Pirates in the Caribbean night. The show after dinner would ring a bell, too: a lively deck party comes with fireworks and an appearance by Jack Sparrow and Captain Hook. While kids may don hats and eye patches, some adult passengers go in full pirate regalia. “It’s fun to watch,” Heidi said.
Unsinkable Ratings
Even among premium cruise lines, Disney claims some of the industry’s highest ratings. It’s consistently lauded for quality and attention to detail, said Colleen McDaniel, senior executive editor of Cruise Critic. In February, the website’s 2017 Cruisers’ Choice Awards honored Disney with eight first-place honors—outranking traditionally high-end brands such as Celebrity and Princess cruises in the mid-sized and large ships categories, and taking top nods for its shore excursions, service, and cabins, among other things.
Innovative adult programming, McDaniel noted, takes place both on the Disney ships and off, but conceded that Disney fans are likely to have the most fun among passengers on the ships: “You can’t escape the Disney elements onboard—Mickey, the princesses, the movie-themed entertainment—but why would you want to?
As they ready for their 100th voyage, the Gerritys certainly have no desire to sidestep the Disney magic. After one particularly memorable cruise, when the high school sweethearts celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary, John had a tattoo inked on his upper right arm featuring the cruise line’s red, white, and blue logo, complete with Mickey Mouse head.
“I said to Joanne, ‘What can we do to thank the crew?’ There ’s just so many of them you can’t give them anything. Then I was watching a TV show about the military guys getting tattoos for their units and I thought, ‘There you go.’”
With an admitted aversion to needles, John said he’s nonetheless happy he got the tattoo. “Everybody wants to take a picture with it,” he said. “It’s a big hit.
