i'm dying to know your story related to hospitals and people's anxieties/concerns/whatever !!
Sorry about the wait, I've been rather busy and wanted wait until I had the time to give this story the attention it deserves.
The post anon's referring to was one I reblogged a few days ago from @andhumanslovedstories about how when someone is admitted to the hospital, they're asked if they have any fears or anxieties that the staff should know about, and someone put down that they're afraid of ghosts.
Which sounds funny and all, but then you get me and my family.
As Lydia Deetz so eloquently put it, "people ignore the strange and unusual, but I myself am strange and unusual".
I've always been a weirdness magnet, and it's apparently hereditary since my parents have had similar weird encounters. Which brings me to my dad's experiences at work and why being afraid of ghosts might actually be important.
First, there's the background to remember. Dad used to work at a local nursing home. Now, I haven't heard many rumors about the place, but there honestly should be.
This is because it was built on the site of an old sanitarium where the old, ill and infirm were not given the best of care. It even had its own private cemetery, where several hundred of its former residents were interred. The original building is long gone, having been demolished in the 1980s, but the cemetery is still there, next to the current nursing home. Most of the headstones are broken or missing, and any records about who was buried there were lost in a fire decades ago.
Ya know, just the normal sort of place where you'd build a nursing home. For extra fun, my dad worked night shift, and the company that now owns the building was doing renovations that included using bulldozers to tear up some of the older property near the cemetery.
Which leads to something that my dad and his other staff members witnessed on a number of occasions. This was also the first thing that came to mind reading about someone being afraid of ghosts in a hospital setting.
Every so often, someone would spot a little girl in the building long after hours. Per protocol, the building was locked down at this point, so a staff member would need to be present in order to let people in or out. Thus, someone should have seen her enter, but nobody ever did. Nobody ever saw her leave, either.
All she ever did was wait at the end of the main hall for a few moments, then walk down one of its hallways once noticed. Invariably, someone on that hall would pass away that night, as if she only came by to lead people into the hereafter.
Can you imagine spotting her during your shift, knowing what that meant?

Meet Spooky, my family's newest cat!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
He belonged to a friend of my sister, but her beagle attacked him one day and she couldn't keep him anymore, so my mom agreed to take him in. His neck is completely shaved, and he has a bunch of stitches, but he's off his painkillers and he seems to be doing alright. Our other cats are okay being in the same room as him (baby steps), our old dog doesn't care one way or the other, but our young dog can't be around him yet because she's super hyper and wants to play with him, and she's WAY bigger than the beagle.
He was named Artie when he was a kitten, but my sister's friend named him Spooky when they got him because he's a black cat. My mom doesn't want to keep that name even though he's 4 years old and used to it, she wants to call him Boo instead because she thinks he'll still respond to the oo sound. She's freaked out because my sister's friends called him Spook for short, which yeah, sure, I guess is a bit of a problem, but I don't see anything wrong with calling him Spooky. Neither does my dad. We don't need to shorten it or change it, it's fine.
He's really friendly, he's one of those guys who pushes his head against your hand on purpose, like "hey, you need to pet me now. This is non-negotiable." One of our cats loves getting butt pats (slapping his haunches like a bongo drum), but I haven't tried that with Spooky yet because he's had a rough week and probably doesn't want to be slapped.

The Last Voyage of the Demeter (2023) (spoilers) 14/10/23
Rating before seeing the movie: Nic: 10 Vic: 10
Rating after seeing the movie: Nic: 9.5 Vic: 9.5
What you did like about the movie:
The Dracula design.
The setting and how they were just stuck on the boat in a hopeless situation.
The characters!
They had a dog and dogs are always good.
What you didn’t like about the movie:
The ending.
The only issue that we had with this Dracula was that they did something incredibly different with it, but then it can’t lead into the actual story of Dracula due to how this version of Dracula looks as a human. If he just looked more human, this movie would have been a 10 for the both of us. Either make him completely feral, or turn him human.
Particularly memorable scene: Vic: The attack on Toby by the first guy who gets turned Nic: The first human attack
Would you watch it again: Vic: Yes Nic: Yes
Reflections: Vic: “I was genuinely frightened by the design of Dracula in this, but I do think the ending left a lot to be desired.” Nic: “It’s a good movie and I’d watch it again but skip those last 5 minutes. You need to be feral or human. You can’t be feral and BUY AN ABBY.”
Final quotes: Vic: “THIS IS TERRIFYING AND I LOVE IT” Nic: “ I wonder whos gunna be…. Neckt”
