Linda Fondren, 21 (USA 1974)

Linda Fondren was a single mother from Illinois who worked as a telephone operator. She was already caring for a small child when she discovered she was pregnant again. Linda was told that Roe v. Wade made abortion “safe and legal,” and it was thanks to this lie that she and her baby would lose their lives.

On the first New Year’s Day after Roe v. Wade, Linda underwent a legal abortion performed by Mohammad Pourtabib at Pre-Birth in Chicago. She bled afterwards, but the facility did not give her any follow-up care. An ambulance finally took her to the hospital, but she was already in shock. Doctors had to give her an emergency hysterectomy.

Linda had a terrible internal infection in addition to the bleeding. Doctors attempted to save her, but fluids were building up in her chest from the infection. During an attempt to drain the fluid on January 16, her spleen finally ruptured. She died on January 20 of massive infection with a coroner’s diagnosis of "hemoperitoneum with splenic rupture following hysterectomy and earlier dilatation and curettage [abortion]."

Linda’s survivors sued for her death. She was buried on January 25 in Burr Oak Cemetery. Fortunately for the women of Illinois, the negligent facility that killed her closed down.

According to a local newspaper’s exposé (which slightly misspelled her last name), Linda was one of at least 12 women killed by legalized abortion at walk-in abortion facilities in the state of Illinois alone in the time period analyzed. State officials had no knowledge of any of the deaths just a week before the newspaper published their report in 1978. This means that it’s possible that none of them were counted by the CDC’s statistics as maternal deaths from legal abortion.

(May 30, 2023) – Dogfish Head Craft Brewery proudly introduces Asteroid City Lager, a crisp and nifty lager brewed in celebration of “Asteroid City,” a new film by Wes Anderson. “Asteroid City” takes place in a fictional American desert town circa 1955, when the itinerary of a Junior Stargazer/Space Cadet convention is spectacularly disrupted by world-changing events.

Inspired by the movie’s compelling and unique design aesthetic, Asteroid City Lager shares much more than a title with its namesake film. Just as “Asteroid City” is a rich and layered take on the typical science fiction flick, Asteroid City Lager provides a stratified, Earthy twist on a classic lager’s light and refreshing flavor profile.

Brewed with regeneratively grown pilsner malt, Tuxpeno corn malt and Zuper Saazer hops for subtle notes of savory corn and a whiff of wild blossoms and herbs, Asteroid City Lager was then finished with a mid-20th century Pennsylvania lager yeast as a nod to the 1950s era during which “Asteroid City” takes place. Not to mention, the beer’s label – developed in collaboration with Wes Anderson, himself – features artwork centered on one of the film’s most eye-catching images; essentially, it is a billboard advertisement for a billboard advertisement.

so uh, prime drink update:

my tiny town is losing it's shit over it, and i am very unhappy. The local school had to get teachers to guard the outside of the shop to make sure no kids were buying prime. Why? Well, kids under the age of 15 can't actually buy it, because lo and behold, the amount of caffeine in this thing isn't very safe, so what the older kids are doing is they buying the drinks and selling them to the little kids at school. And when i say little, i mean little. Some of these kids are like in grade 3. The store has also limited the amount you can buy, you can't have more than 4 at a time. And the worst part (other than the fact it's by l*gan pa*l), prime tastes like shit. A friend of mine bought some to try, the red one specifically, and omfg it's foul. I didn't try it, because the SMELL ALONE MADE ME RECOIL. The amount of flavouring in this thing is nuts! How??? How do you drink this shit??? It smelled really strongly of artificial cherry flavouring you'd find in cough syrup. It was so horrible. You can buy a 4pk of monster for the same price as a single prime bottle. fucking wild times we live
