Summary: Mina is thrilled when the gang finally caves and lets her plan a road trip as their final memory all together before college, but when she and Kyouka end up alone together in her dad’s old junker, she wonders if “best friends forever” is really all it's cracked up to be.

Note: this was my piece for a zine that got cancelled! except 1,500 words longer and a lot cheesier. when i write about girls loving girls some sort of switch flicks in my brain and i can’t hold myself back. i think im just too much of a lesbian 

Preview: Before sticking the key in the ignition, Kyouka rifles through the glove compartment and comes out with a tape in a scraped-up plastic case. “I’ll only play the really good ones.” 

Mina takes a deep breath. “Kyouka, babe, you know I know your taste in music could never do me wrong. But this is the same stuff your dad’s been playing since forever! Aren’t you tired of it?” It’s a little more desperate than she wants it to be, and probably no good, because Kyouka’s already popping the cassette into the...cassette slot, or whatever. But still, she pushes, because come on, this is Jirou Kyouka, her best friend since forever, who she knows better than her own address, who she knows never once took out both earbuds in their senior year English class.

And because the chances that she’ll get to play the road trip playlist that she made for just the two of them are getting slimmer by the second. That might weigh out her first reason, actually.

minajirou. part 1 / ??

it’s sunday in the afternoon when kyouka bids her friends goodbye, because she has an errand to run and it’s getting late, and she really needs to go please momo i’ve done all of my work just let me go already.

of course, her best friend believes in her when she says her excuse (she actually doesn’t), but momo relents anyway because she’s such a good friend.

not to kyouka. she loves to tease kyouka just as much as kyouka loves to tease momo.

regardless, it isn’t kyouka that momo’s a good friend to. momo’s a good friend to mina, who’s waiting by the front door of their dorm, wearing, dare momo call them, the trashiest outfit she’s ever laid her eyes on. then again, momo has no right to say that when her hero outfit leaves a lot to be desired. and mina’s always had the confidence to wear whatever she wanted to wear, even if she looks like a gremlin.

a cute gremlin, but still.

momo twirls her pen across her fingers as she watches kyouka make a beeline for the door, opening it wide to find mina standing there. waiting, beaming smile in place.

kyouka stuffs her hands in the pocket of her jacket and lets her jacks do the gesturing, unaware of the growing audience they’ve accumulated with the still open door.

or maybe they know? they don’t look like they care either way.

momo’s glad for them anyway, even as she scrambles to the window when the door closes, along with the other girls. as they perch themselves upon each other in order to catch the tail end of kyouka leaning over mina, eyes closed and peaceful.

as mina giggles, knowing that the other girls are watching. as she leans in as well, pecking the purple-haired girl’s lips with her own lips, thinly covered with gloss.

as kyouka turns to stare at the window, flipping everyone the finger.

as mina laughs.

as the girls laugh.

and as both mina and kyouka walk hand in hand, to start their not so secret date.

What is your total word count on AO3?

123,208 wow omfg that’s a lot in like just over a  year?

How often do you write?

Before I got a job and fell into a writing slump I used to write on a regular bases, at least 3-4 times a week. I hope I can get back to that. 

Do you have a routine for writing?

This is bad but not really. I have, for my recent WIPS, have started to plan them. Whether that be a vague ass plan (example: After All This Time’s plan) or a little bit more detailed plan. 

When it comes how I write chaptered fics I usually write the end first or the “major” plot point. Literally all of my BNHA chaptered fics, even wips that haven’t been posted yet. I always begin near the end. 

I have started with a new wip every time I make a change I save it as a different document, so that I can actually track the process of my wip and see how it’s developed from where I started to the potential end product. 

I have to listen to music when I write, I need some sort of background noise so that I keep focused. Sometimes the music I listen to can inspire something with in the scene, or even inspire a new one.

tropes: ironically I love soulmate aus, especially the soulmate au. I’m also a sucker for slow burn and childhood friends to lovers. Also fake dating AUs

Do you have a favourite fic of yours?

Something Always Brings Me Back To You was the first chaptered fic I wrote for the BNHA fandom & for BKDK and it was the first chaptered fic I finished in years. And I am really proud of how it turned out in the end. Chapter 14 is one of my favourite things I’ve ever written.

Night Full of Terrors (erasermight) I really love too because it was the first time I dived deeply into these two characters and I think it’s my best characterisation of Aizawa so far. It was interesting and challenging to write about how an event can affect two people in different ways and how it can pull them a part but eventually bring them back together.

Game of Survival because I just really love the idea and I love my characterisations. It’s been interesting and challenging to mostly write from Bakugou’s pov. Something I only did briefly in SABMBTY.

After All This Time (shiniida) this was a fic, which similarly to NFOT, was uncharted territory, I was the first person to add a fic to shiniida’s AO3 tag and the characters had never interacted in canon before. So exploring their dynamic in an AU world where both of them are pining for each other, throwing distance between them, & then forcing the fake dating au onto them has been fun, interesting, and challenging. I’m proud of it so to speak. 

I also have another favourite fic but it hasn’t been posted yet so idk if I can count it lmao

Anything you don’t like about your writing?

I feel like I’m not that great at description, I struggle a lot when it comes to description and I become repetitive with certain words (for someone who never writes about volcanos I use erupted too many damn times). I don’t like that I didn’t used to plan at all, it becomes an issue when I stop writing and can’t remember where I was going to go next.

Now something you do like (about your writing)?

I really like how I handle dialogue and thought processes in my fics, I think that’s where you really get a feel of the characters and their emotions. I also like how much I’ve improved over the span of a year or even a couple of months.
