Jamy Ian Swiss is the author of three books and co-author of two other books and consultant or contributor to at least eight other books and magazines, frequent performer at the Magic Castle, co-producer of Monday Night Magic, historian, lecturer, teacher, consultant, Senior Fellow of the James Randi Educational Foundation, skeptic, and an expert on the intersection of science, magic, and skepticism. He has frequently appeared on television talk and news shows including all the networks with occasional appearances in movies and documentaries.

This discussion was recorded in the Magic Castle when we worked together there in March 2023. In our conversation, Jamy covers the gamut of magic from those who have influenced his life to an esoteric discussion of equivoque and the power of magic has on our audience and a deep dive into a theoretical talk about magic. here's the quote at the very end of the chapter with the moth scene, before darlington figures out that alex killed everyone at ground zero with the help of hellie's ghost
Months later, he would remember the weight of the moths’ bodies in his palm. He would think of that moment and how foolish he had been to think he knew her at all.
it feels like a nod at what north says towards the end of the book, when he finds out daisy has been eating girls' souls to sustain herself for years
“I didn’t know she was capable of such things,” he said over the clamor of the crowd. “I never knew she had such a heart.”
“You never knew her at all.”
i don't know if it was intentional but it's such a beautiful parallel between the wheelwalker/murderer/survivor girl and some ordinary guy in love with her, groveling and being unable to grasp what she is and what she can do

Random stuff:
Jeremy jumped off the stage for the Now or Never scene so often his knee started hurting
During the rehearsal for 'This Band his back' Jeremy stumbled over Charlie's guitar while jumping on the chairs. He fell and cut his hand, so in the filmed version, Reggie has a band-aid on one of his fingers
The suits for Stand Tall cost over $3000
'Nothing to lose' got almost cut bc they didn't have enough budget to film it. But Kenny somehow made it happen.
Originally, Reggie was supposed to lose a shoe instead of his shirt. But nobody would have seen that, so they changed it to losing the shirt.
Most awkward moment: For the dinner scene, the guys had to hide in a tiny closet, and Jeremy and Owen were staring into each other's eyes.
They really tried to make a tour happen
Owen was terrified of filming 'All Eyes on Me'
Off-Topic: But during Jeremy's voice acting panel, Owen was hanging out in the audience to watch it.

On July 14, 2020, a year after Boyce's death, the Alex Winter-directed documentary Showbiz Kids debuted on HBO. The film, which is about childhood stardom and its effects, includes interview footage of Boyce. It is dedicated to the memory of Boyce and former child actress Diana Serra Cary who had died on February 24, 2020.

it's been a day and a half of me watching only julie and the phantoms cast, watching their bloopers, interviews, etc , there's a lot of stuff i barely just found out and imma share them (pls dont make fun of me i tend to be very late to stuff hahah)
luke was pansexual, dated alex in the 90's and had a thing for literally everyone else in the show
they did the cameron boyce "cheer" he invented while filming descendants after every amazing take/day of filming
disney+ and i think hbo was looking to buy the rights to jatp when netflix announced they wouldn't be giving the show a second season, but then we literally never heard anything again (but they were going to put the show on disney+ or hbo)
kenny ortega signed a multi-year deal with netflix, so if another network were to try and pick it up for a second season, it's very unlikely that they would switch it somewhere else. it's not impossible, but very hard to swap (since it is an original)
kenny wants to bring back jatp so much that they actually had drafts going already for season 2 when netflix cancelled the show due to low viewers ):

Ok im a little ways into hell bent (im listening to the audiobook, Lauren fortgang can choke me) and I’m having a rip roaring time of it so far

I am so thrilled that Abel Turner is back on the scene I’m only mad it took this long. I love how salty stern is abt getting ghosted. If darlington wasn’t there I would be all in for stern/turner (sterner?)
There are a LOT of balls in the air with the whole hell heist, new Lethe manager guy (can’t remember the title), eitan (I think that’s how u spell it??), whatever the fuck was going on in the first chapter, a MURDER (gasp) I’m truthfully struggling to keep everything straight but I think that’s pretty standard for where I’m at in the story
I was kinda unenthused when eitan sprang up again but after reading the scene where he’s actually on the page talking I’m intrigued
Miss bardugo literally cannot allow demon darlington on the page without mentioning his erect glowing demonic cock im WHEEZING
That whole scene when Alex sleep walked to black elm…👀 I mean “I have appetites” 👀👀👀 damn bro I’m hungry too
Pammie….bless her. I love that woman. Excited to maybe see her tarot knowledge come into play!! Also mercy and lauren are excellent. Kinda hope mercy and pammie get some bonding time eventually and that we can get to know more abt lauren. Like we know that Alex likes her but we don’t rly know why?? I’m curious
I rly liked that one grey that accidentally stole Alex’s meat suit at the beginning, I thought maybe he was gonna be the new GBF (grey best friend, see Bertram Boyce north) but idk it’s not looking likely at this point
Wondering if tripp helmuth is gonna reappear, I feel like there was maybe the tiniest suggestion in the first book that he might gain some relevance but it truly was tiny
Glad Mercy’s recovery is getting addressed rather than being left as a book 1 plot point, but I should have expected nothing less from Leigh 😤
Michelle alameddine was a little meh to me, but I found anselm intriguing (is that the temp Lethe supervisor’s name idk)
