I usually have a good image in my head around the listener character designs. These came a little easier to me though because they’re named. I tried to be consistent with them all but I forgot the brush settings when I got to Spark.
I drew them all on my phone too, sorry about the line weight.
These are from my favorite series in no particular order. I’d also like to draw Eden, Avery, and maybe Ember?

Headcanons under the cut!!
Chase
while they inherited their Mama’s hair and were-polar bear traits; everything else is what they got from their Papa - from placid chillness to emotional intelligence
their eyes were somewhat of a genetic phenomenon, especially since their mum’s traits were considered dominant - the deep blue with gold is a nice blend and something through their life often attracted people to them
it’s a wonder their eyes hadn’t been another sort of hint as to them not being human - but in certain lights - it’s likely it was just assumed to be hazel as opposed to gold
“six feet tall and super strong” except that Chase is 6′ 4″ and Alex is on somewhat of a power trip because they’re more uh - submissive under the sheets
leans on the thicker side in terms of body type - both parental genetics and their polar bear are an influence to that
Channing
appearing very strict comes with their profession, it adds to their no nonsense attitude so they know children are taken care of
adopted, but said parents do love them a lot; not 100% clear if their biological parents were the same - said to look like their blood mother
subtle gold ring around their pupil, looks uniform, very common in lycanthropes / turned werewolves (trust fund baby, their adopted parents are politicians after all)
crescent moon tattoo gotten out of acceptance to their lycanthropy
also taller than Jeremy; made mostly out of assumption that Sarge referred to him as a “pipsqueak” and in that he’d probably also like the dichotomy in submission to their put together appearance
Arden
it is recently revealed that Arden is, in fact, an empath - still a magical with biology specifically in tune with feelings of all types
likely used their magic and got into work in allowing hurt / wronged people to redeem themselves with clear success
uses their generally unassuming disposition to approach these individuals easily; even continues being friendly with the people they help long after the charges had been dropped
felt Kieran’s feelings the most powerfully and decided to stick closer to him, mostly because they had some sort of idea that he might be a possible mate
he’s real tall and big in comparison to them but that’s because he’s a full grown demon
Oakley
they look a lot like their mum, though it is noted that they inherited their father’s eyes
their lucky clover tattoo is semi-recent, mostly as they felt it was a nice marking after they and Sebastian solved their gremlin problem
they call him “Sebby”; he did complain about it but ultimately stopped protesting after he realized he really liked to coming from their mouth
switches between different flowers they like to put in their hair and all the vases in their home swap around depending on décor and time of year (ex. red poinsettia during the winter)
soft, squishy body, while they’ve called Sebastian a bed - he lowkey uses them as a pillow more often then not
Spark
demons really have whatever appearance they like (as long as their appearance is proportionate to their age); before they met Cobalt, their hair and eyes were white before they adopted eyes as blue as his
then had white hair for the longest time until Cobalt had met the healer - where they gave themselves blond hair to match her’s (though I imagine her to be a lighter blonde)
initially self conscious of the size of their horns (one thing they couldn’t change) so Cobalt helped them get over it by putting stickers and such on them; now they do it as somewhat of a fashion statement - and because it’s fun
despite being childish; they like dressing well and is considered a little extra - Cobalt was surprised when they asked him if they looked okay because they’ve always been assured in their state of dress
rather petite in appearance, they’ve been confused for being much younger a lot so it’s not too surprising people assume they are one
Landry
Ravenoff described Landry’s lips as sultry and my brain just came with the thought that they look super dignified and intimidating and such... but we know they’re an agent of chaos
adopted Rav’s more traditional vampire-esque style after they were turned, though does try to help modernize his wardrobe in spite of his love for formal wear
a total mom friend; constantly worried about everyone - especially wanting to see Byron again as he’s been alone all the time since he’d been turned (knowing that Rav would not let them see him on their own)
in the process of learning more about vampire laws; while having some rudimentary idea from their time with Byron under Bleek’s thumb - is interested in all magical law and researching practices
they like the look corsets give them so they used to wear them if they wanted to be “extra” but since becoming a vampire, they’ve leaned into dramatics a little bit more
Tallest to Shortest: Chase, Landry, Channing, Arden, Oakley, Spark
Men are rats- listen to me, they're fleas on rats; worse than that, they're amoebas on fleas on rats. I mean, they're too low for even the dogs to bite.
It only takes one listen for Grease to plant itself into your head and set up a permanent home. In no time, you’ll be reaching for the remote so you can watch this classic musical again. You'll make it your mission to memorize the songs so you can sing along to Summer Nights, You’re the One That I Want, Greased Lightnin’ and the other memorable tunes.
It’s back to school at Rydell High, 1958. Sweet-natured Sandy Olsson (Olivia Newton-John) is shocked to discover her summer crush, Danny Zuko (John Travolta) is not the same boy she met on the beach. A greaser and member of the T-Birds, he plays it off as if their romance meant nothing to him, but that sentiment won’t last.
Grease starts on the right note with an animated intro that recalls the cartoons of the ’50s (Rocky and Bullwinkle and Friends comes to mind). It sets the mood and, combined with Summer Nights tells you exactly what’s in store next. John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John are perfect together, the choreography and sure-thing romance get you excited for more. There's not much depth to anything we see but that's perfectly suited to this nostalgia-fuelled, breezy love story filled with teenage drama and a lot of energy.
Much of the film’s success comes from an unexpected source: Stockard Channing as Betty Rizzo, the sarcastic, cynical leader of the Pink Ladies, the clique who adopts Sandy. This movie has many moments of cheese, but Rizzo proves the screenplay by Allan Carr is also self-aware. As the audience gets ready to make a snarky remark at the “Why has he changed?” or “How can I romance her without being embarrassed in front of my friends?” sentiment, Rizzo beats you to the punch. Either by tossing a joke into the mix or introducing genuinely important teenage issues and sentiments. Ultimately the film is still a fantasy that leaves you cheering, but that slight edge prevents you from dismissing it as an airhead. That said, there is one element of the film that is dated: Danny's friends. Their toxic masculinity hints at an unintended, darker edge. For this reason, a few key lyrics have been tweaked in later production. It's easy to see why. Such is the price for enduring for this long. Ultimately, it doesn't matter. Grease is too much fun for you to be offended.
There are many big laughs and heart-fluttering moments as director Randal Kleiser paints this picture of a time when things were simpler and every conflict could be expressed, then resolved through song and dance. The leads are splendid. The supporting cast members make even their small contributions impactful thanks to some witty lines and memorable moments. Is Grease going to convert those who don’t like musicals? I don’t think so, but for those who already like it when characters express their feelings through rhyme, music and footwork, it’s a blast. (On DVD, November 24, 2017)
(I want to try and do these posts more frequently because I DEARLY miss yelling about books, txitter is [poop emoji]-ing, and bluesky is promising but I don't have much of an audience there yet)
ok! stuff freya has read recently and enjoyed:
A FIRE BORN OF EXILE by aliette de bodard -- did you enjoy nirvana in fire? this is for YOU. it's a revenge story set in aliette's xuya space opera universe, with a pile of complicated characters with mixed or obscured motives, a sapphic romance, and just really incredible use of worldbuilding and politics.
THE SLEEPING SOLDIER by aster glenn gray -- I am an enormous sucker for aster's historical m/m romances, and this one was incredible. a union soldier goes to sleep in 1865 and wakes up in 1965, and his new college roommate has a series of gay crises about it. sweet, exuberant, well researched. both a wonderful romance and an absolutely fascinating examination of male friendships and homosexuality in two different historical time periods.
A DEADLY EDUCATION by naomi novik -- doing a reread of the first two scholomance books before I dive into the third. these books are so disgustingly tailored to ME, a huge fan of magical academia stories with a truly deliciously unnecessary level of worldbuilding detail about how the magic works (and how the school is trying to kill you).
BATH HAUS by p.j. vernon -- a man goes to a gay bathhouse, cheating on his partner, and narrowly escapes being murdered. things get worse from there. I can only recommend this to you if you enjoy thrillers that STRESS YOU THE FUCK OUT, which I normally don't; I nearly put it down a couple of times, but I HAD to know what was going on. it's a masterclass in propulsive tension and does some really cool things with unreliable narration.
HAVEMERCY by jaida jones and danielle bennett -- seven hundred years late to this party, but OH MY GOD. this is the completely gay political/military fantasy of my dreams (the YEARNING), plus there are magical-mechanical dragons. I will be devouring the other books in this series in short order.
EVERY VERSION OF YOU by grace chan -- a beautiful and fascinating literary scifi book about humanity and family and love, and being given the choice to upload your consciousness to a digital paradise as the planet dies around you. unsurprisingly it deals with some heavy stuff, but it's fantastic. and australian!
A THIEF AND A GENTLEMAN by arden powell -- another m/m romance in arden's flos magicae series. the title alone is probably enough to tell you why I enjoyed it, but I especially liked the way it kept subverting my expectations in favour of more chewy emotional honesty and complexity.
STRONG FEMALE CHARACTER by fern brady -- a memoir by a scottish comedian about being diagnosed with autism in her thirties, and her life up to that point. funny and chaotic and an all-around amazing read. I loved fern on taskmaster and I love her even more now.

The dreadful words keep me hanging on the dark moment, the dead-end path to the hands that made me warm, I become a floating image, a star as time and distance grow, I shall at last live my death from afar.

Korkunç sözler beni karanlık ana, beni ısıtan ellere giden çıkmaz yola, yüzen bir görüntüye, bir yıldıza dönüşüyorum zaman ve mesafe büyüdükçe, sonunda ölümümü uzaktan yaşayacağım.
re: 2023 new releases. hope you're ready for a long message because there were a lot.
hot new releases/things that were relatively popular
He Who Drowned The World, Shelley Parker Chan (Chinese mythological historical, very gay, very stabby a la Baru Cormorant. Book 2 of 2. A particular favorite of mine from this year)
Witch King, Martha Wells (New fantasy book by author of murderbot fame. I didn't actually click with this one but I'd be remiss to leave it off)
House With Good Bones, T Kingfisher (Southern gothic rose horror by the very talented Ursula Vernon)
Translation State, Ann Leckie (high sf alien horror regency romance. Wheeeeee. I had a lot of fun reading this. You can read it as a standalone, but you get deeper context if you've read the ancillary justice series, also highly recommended)
Will of the Many, James Islington (futuristic roman empire aesthetic rigged murder school. Not precisely good but appallingly catchy, I read all six hundred pages in pretty much one sitting. If you liked red rising you'll like this, if you hated red rising you will Not)
OH YEAH THE ACTUAL NEW MURDEBOT NOVEL (System Collapse)
A Power Unbound, Freya Marske (book 3 of 3, magic alt edwardian romances with murder. This is more romance proper but it's about equal with the action plot and Marske is very good. I don't think you've read these so you'd have to start at book 1)
Some Desperate Glory, Emily Tesh (The book that absolutely knocked my socks off, my pick for the best sff release of the year. I forget if I've already told you about this one)
Starling House, Alix Harrow (Southern gothic house drama. Similar feel to Ninth House or The Book of Night)
The Adventures of Amina al-Sirafi, Shannon Chakraborty (Divorced lady pirate adventure-drama a la Arabian Nights.)
Emily Wilde's Encyclopaedia of Faeries, Heather Fawcett (Charming, heavily fairy tale trope themed, vaguely reminiscent of the Lady Trent books)
more obscure new releases from this year that I thought were cool, but not in the Hot New Reads You Can't Miss Because Everyone's Read Them category
Under Fortunate Stars, Ren Hutchings (sf timey wimey space shenanigans with aliens. Immensely cool premise.)
Small Miracles, Olivia Atwater (fallen angel sent to tempt a too good mortal. Extremely charming)
The King Is Dead, Naomi Libicki (vaguely persian flavored fealty romance, very heavy to the fealty. Original, thorny, and intriguing)
The Deep Sky, Yume Kitasei (What if we terribly traumatized everyone going on a generation ship by making them go to viciously competitive boarding school together and then act surprised when a murder mystery occurs. Heads up that it's more interested in the human drama than the SF worldbuilding)
The Saint of Bright Doors, Vajra Chandrasekera (early modern fantasy world anti-imperialism fever dream narrated by a cult survivor. Brilliantly written, spectacularly original, one of the best books I read this year)
Things for 2024, content warning for being (obviously) things I haven't read and thus without quality control
The Warm Hands of Ghosts, Katherine Arden
The Familiar, Leigh Bardugo
The Dead Cat Tail Assassins, P Djeli Clark
Long Live Evil, Sarah Rees Brennan
Goddess of the River, Vaishnavi Patel
The Woods All Black, Lee Mandelo
Exordia, Seth Dickinson
A Sorceress Comes To Call, T Kingfisher
Running Close To The Wind, Alexandra Rowland
Wow tumblr just lets me keep writing words. I didn't think they let me have this many in asks. Oh, and pro tip-- keep an eye out for tordotcom's most anticipated upcoming books for the first six months of 2024. They should be publishing it within the next week or so and I always add masses of books to my tbr from there.
oh holy crap, thanks!! I'll have to check these out!
thoughts on a few of em:
He Who Drowned The World - still have to read She Who Became the Sun lol but hopefully I'll get to em next year!
Witch King - Martha Wells has been recced by like All my sci-fi mutuals now lmao I REALLY gotta get into her!
House With Good Bones - THIS ONE IS ACTUALLY ON MY SHELF!! I just didn't fucking read it this year whoops. Very excited for new Kingfisher
Starling House - I was on the fence about this one since I really didn't like Once and Future Witches, but those comparisons give me hope! I'll add it to the library list!
Some Desperate Glory and Emily Wilde's Encyclopaedia of Faeries are 2/3 of the books published in 2023 that I actually managed to read (the 3rd is The Woman in Me lmao), I can't remember if you recc'd Some Desperate Glory, but it was SOOOOOOOO GOOD OMFG
Small Miracles - my aunt has been trying to convince me to read Atwater for quite a while, I'll have to give this one a try!
The Saint of Bright Doors - I have this one on hold!! Saw a post for it a week or so ago and it sounds absolutely delightful!
The Familiar - SO SO EXCITED for this one! I hope Bardugo is maybe...slowly....extricating herself from the Grishaverse and going to write more books not related to it... (not that they're all bad, I loved the Six of Crows duology, I'm just not into it anymore and I reeeealllly like her adult books lol)
Running Close To The Wind - oh yay new Rowland! I still haven't read her last book (the one with the guy on the cover who looked EXACTLY like my boss to the point where it became an Office Meme that [Boss] Is A Gay Romance Cover Model, still meaning to get a UK version of it but haven't yet) but I'll have to look this one up!

I'm so happy I joined this event, and I also had fun rereading some fics I loved, that I never commented on (shame on me). I wanted to choose all different authors and I'm grateful for all the great content creators our fandom has. Many thanks to all the mods for running this ✨💞✨💞✨
hello! just putting together a little resource which is by no means comprehensive, but can be used as a quick reference for some poc fcs with good resources and links to some of their gif hunts. though i’m not an rph, i had made this list already for personal reference and wanted to share in case it brought anyone else inspo. i know there are probably a few of these posts already, but i think the more ways to get people looking at poc fcs, the better! there are so many good poc fcs out there, that it’s a shame we don’t see them more, especially when some have a shocking amount of resources. some of these fcs are already popular, but i figured i’d add them in anyway, though i did try to list out more fcs i don’t see as often.
i tried to include 2-3 good hunts per fc (most were found using this site/link since tumblr tags are a hot mess as usual) and i take no credit for any of the resources linked either. thank you to creators who’ve made such good gifs for these fcs and if you use their hunts, please like/reblog their posts and be mindful of any denoted triggers. hopefully this gives a wee boost to some more underused fcs as well.
