Gotta be honest I am REALLY not looking forward to the fandom discourse when people start shipping the now very much grown up Lydia (Winona Rider is 52) with Beetlejuice cause of the sequel and people start arguing over whether she was groomed or not or whether nsfw content of, again, a 52 year old and a 72 year old constitutes as cp.

But otherwise the sequel looks like it may be fun. I honesty don’t personally care for beetlebabes in a romantic sense (I see them as incredibly close friends, but that’s just me—don’t care if people ship them) but. Yeah. Happy for the fans

MUSICAL TUMBLRMAN BATTLE

hey there, it's me, marina @annabelle--cane. you've seen these brackets before, you know the drill, it's time to watch these bastards kill each other.

rules/guidelines:

I'm using "tumblrman"/"the jokner of musicals" because a lot of the characters iconic to this genre are minors and it wouldn't be appropriate for an adult (<- me) to call them sexymen, but it also wouldn't feel right to just leave them out. I think these terms carry most of the same energy while leaving out sexual connotations.

personally, I will be voting and selecting based on levels of iconicness and how hard a choke hold these characters had on me and my peers, not based on which characters I actually think are best or that I like the most. I know this guideline is completely unenforceable and people will just black out and vote for their blorbos, but if this gets a good turn out, maybe I'll do a "favorite/best/most musical character" tournament afterwards.

there are a few characters who are already guaranteed spots (jd, beetlejuice, the squip, etc.), but still feel free to submit any obvious choices, especially if you've got compelling propaganda.

there are a few characters I don't feel comfortable including, but I don't think people are likely to submit them and I think posting a list would invite discourse, so I'll just say that I leave it ultimately up to my discretion whether or not to dismiss certain nominations.

since I will be selecting characters based on how iconic I think they were/are, nominees will likely skew male, but submissions are also open to female and nonbinary characters. the jonkler of musicals can be any gender.

similarly, I'm going to prioritize characters from stage musicals, but you may also submit characters from movie, TV, podcast, song cycle, or other medium musicals. if you're unsure, just go ahead and submit them and I'll figure it out.

this is a CRINGE POSITIVE space. ribbing on your past self or 2017 musical fandom culture as a whole is all fine and good, but try to keep in the spirit of friendly competition and stay away from being outright mean. if what you're saying is indistinguishable from a homophobe talking about their high school gsa, I will block you and delete your comments.

Yeah.? I don’t know what the discourse is, but I really enjoyed the pilot voice actors tbh and the chemistry they had together, it’s sad they were dropped when I feel like they were perfect imo, they sounded more expressive.

Omg awesome! The Beetlejuice Beetlejuice trailer is out now! It looks GREAT. Love the practical effects. Keaton stepped right back into that role like no time has passed at all! Adore the rest of the cast and the costumes. Burton always has to have a sexy goth dream woman in his movies, and Monica Belluci looks Uh. May. Zing.

Oooh, Beej is working as an "Afterlife Care Manager". Looks like he may have taken over Juno's job. Oh look, he's got a pic on his desk of Lydia as a 16 year-old. Looks like it's time for more pro vs anti ship wars. Hooray.

Oh wow, would I love to not talk about this again, but I just gotta. I'm a big mouth every now and then. I dislike angry fandom discourse that much.

First off, to the pro-shippers, I'd like to remind you that Movie Beej's emotional interest in Lydia has always been portrayed as creepy and weird. Also I think we have to remember his primary motivation for marrying her is likely to escape the Afterlife and his (likely many) enemies, such as his first wife. Lydia is rightfully scared about him being released based on how he terrorized her family in the original movie, so I doubt she's into it.

To the antis, I'll just point out that Beetlejuice has always been portrayed as a "lovable" antagonist. He's threatening, but he's a big goofy doofus at the same time. He wants to make people like him, but he's terrible at doing it. Also, his lies are very transparent. He's a cartoonish, sleazy con-man. When he's wooing Lydia it comes off as insincere and humorous. I think we're supposed to find him inappropriate for her, but not truly predatory. His motivations are for selfish gain and not seriously romantic in nature. And if he IS serious about her, I don't think WE'RE supposed to take his crush seriously.

Basically what I'm saying is, Beetlejuice has never taken itself seriously, so we shouldn't expect it to give us any solid shipping proof or disproof. This property has always been cartoonish in nature. Getting up in arms and screaming about how certain ships are only for pedophiles is as ridiculous as expecting the sequel to give us real Beetlebabes content instead of, say, Beej ending up flat on his face or in Dead Jail again.

Personally I think he'll escape any danger to leave the door open for more movies, but I'll be genuinely surprised if he and Lydia are paired up romantically in the movie canon. But this hardly matters as canon has very little to do with shipping.

Art Theft in the Beetlejuice Fandom

There are a few accounts that are stealing art because they don't like the beetlebabes ship. That's fine to not like the ship, they have valid concerns, just don't steal the art. It comes off quite cowardly to not tag the artist. You can make your point without stealing art. I think these accounts are run by very young adults who are still maturing and figuring out how to have a proper discourse. I just wanted the creators to know what their art is being used for. Luckily, the accounts seem dead but Instagram and TikTok won't do anything unless the actual artists report it.

The main accounts that are doing this are Musicals.n.Memes and GreetingsGhosts on Instagram. On TikTok it's that.theatre.kid.draws.

I have reached out to the person who I think authored the fic mentioned a few times and one of the artists. I haven't found the artist who drew the fic cover, the main art in the first post, and most from the video.

Man, with the new Beetlejuice movie coming out this year, I'd love for that to revive the cartoon. Give it the ol' X-Men 97 treatment; same style, just better budget.

It would be SO satisfying to show these Hazbin fans what a deranged cartoon about the afterlife looks like when it's done right. Creative settings, crazy monsters, a loveable jerk main character, weird problems requiring wacky solutions, and being able to properly see all the action because it's not drowning in a sea of red.

One can dream

Honestly, I don't think I want to see that show revived. I don't think modern day fandom could handle it and that show's too close to my heart to be torn apart in a sea of discourse.

...Although I could get behind a revival where Lydia's 18. It'd blow some minds and maybe people would finally leave me the hell alone.

i might be in the minority here, but as a fan of the beetlejuice musical, it's really disheartening to see so many other fans asking the cast and creative team about a pro-shot.

i want a pro-shot as much as the next guy, but...it's not happening. it was planned for april 2020, but the pandemic took it from us, and hbo max sucks now and is not prioritizing this kind of content for streaming.

i know that sucks to hear, but please please PLEASE stop asking everyone about a pro-shot. elizabeth, kerry, leslie, and the director alex timbers all confirmed it's not going to happen before the show closes on broadway.

maybe someday it'll be filmed on the west end (i've heard that it is cheaper to film there versus in a broadway house) but as of now there are no plans to do so.

so please, i think it would benefit us all if we stopped the pro-shot discourse, at least for the time being.

Hello ! I thought it was time that I share a post about the purpose of this blog. And maybe I can present myself a little.

I started this blog because I wanted to share with others what I liked. I post only moodboards that I edit myself. I search pictures, put them together then add one or two filters I created. This blog is totally drama free, I don't like fighting in fandoms. So I'm not gonna involve myself in fandom discourse. If you don't like what I post, just ignore it. It's okay.

I like reading novels (especially fantasy & romances) & mangas, watching tv shows, movies & also animes, writing (I have a novel to write) and obviously editing. Now, you probably wonder what my moodboards/aesthetics are about. Well, to be short, I don't really know. I just do a moodboard because I have the idea at one point. Well, I'm not going to create something about a show, or a book I don't know at all. So here we go, a list about everything I edited so far :

Mythology : greek mythology, norse mythology and a bit of celtic mythology. I'll try to post about other mythologies. It's one of my favorite subjects.

ASOIAF/GoT : it was my first fandom and I don't think I'll stop here. You'll probably find something you like if it's one of your favorite universes

Mangas/Animes : Naruto, One Piece, the fullmetal alchemist.. I'm still discovering what I like, so it's probably going to change a little.

Seasons : well, I loved doing moodboards about summer, autumn and halloween. I'll do others for winter, spring, christmas and easter...

The lord of the rings : totally going to do more for this universe

Charmed & Buffy : I put them together because they're totally the shows of my childhood/teen years

Anne with an E : I loved this show. I only did Anne and I'm not exactly sure if I'm going to do more. But well, maybe !

Doctor Who : it was one of my favourite show at one point. Maybe I'm going to do more moodboards for this fandom. Don't be surprised if I do some from others british shows.

Movies/tv shows : I can't mention all of them, so here... I'm going to do one moodboard of a movie or a show because I like to watch this one in the time I'm editing it. For example, I did one for Hocus Pocus, Beetlejuice or Crimson Peak because I watch them every year in October/for Halloween. Expect more for Christmas too...

I like so many other things that could inspire me. I'm kinda a nerd and I work in a library. I'm reading Percy Jackson again, so expect some about Grover, Annabeth or Percy.

Also, you can totally request something if you enjoy my work. Anons are here for it. I'm open to it, just don't hate me if I refuse a request. Sometimes, I just don't know the movie or the book you're requesting so it's kinda complicated for me...

In november, I'll be less active because I do the NaNowrimo. I write more than the other months. But I'll try to post as much as possible.
