• Countess Elizabeth Báthory de Ecsed, (7 August 1560 – 21 August 1614), was a Hungarian noblewoman and "purported serial killer" from the family of Báthory, who owned land in the Kingdom of Hungary.
• Urraca of Zamora (1033/34 – 1101) was a Leónese infanta, one of the five children of Ferdinand I the Great, who received the city of Zamora as her inheritance and exercised palatine authority in it. Her story was romanticized in the cantar de gesta called the Cantar de Mio Cid, and Robert Southey's Chronicle of the Cid.
• Catherine de’ Medici, was queen consort of Henry II of France and subsequently regent of France (1560–74), who was one of the most influential personalities of the Catholic–Huguenot wars. Three of her sons were kings of France: Francis II, Charles IX, and Henry III.
• Archduchess Margaret of Austria  was Governor of the Habsburg Netherlands from 1507 to 1515 and again from 1519 to 1530. She was the first of many female regents in the Netherlands.
• Jasper Tudor, Duke of Bedford and Earl of Pembroke  also called Jasper of Hatfield, was the uncle of King Henry VII of England and a leading architect of his nephew's successful accession to the throne in 1485. He was from the noble Tudor family of Penmynydd in North Wales.
• Mary was the eldest of three surviving children of Thomas and Elizabeth Boleyn. Much like her siblings, Anne and George, many details regarding Mary’s formative years remain something of a mystery, and we cannot be exactly certain in which order the siblings were born. We can, however, be fairly certain that the children were born between 1500 and 1507, at the Boleyn estate of Blickling Hall, in Norfolk.

BIOGRAPHY / TIMELINE*
+ 1508. birth to thomas boleyn and elizabeth howard, the third surviving child of their three children, in blicking hall, norfolk.
+ 1523. the ambition of thomas boleyn drives george to familiarize himself with the workings of the court for the first time; he is marked immediately as a charismatic young man with plenty of political suave and potential, something george will quickly learn to take advantage of.
+ 1524. marriage to jane parker.
+ 1528. birth of his son, richard boleyn, by jane boleyn nee parker.
+ 1530. birth of his daughter, countess of essex, by jane boleyn nee parker.
+ 1532. anne boleyn and henry viii are privately married. george fully ingrains himself into the royal household, staying as closely to his sister as he can while mind his own family.
+ 1537. seymour subterfuge.
+ 1538. as tensions grow between the boleyn faction and those who would claim anne's children to be illegitimate, george cleverly pulls strings wherever possible and bloodies his hands to remove any opposition who challenge william's claim to the throne. his reputation changes from that of a cunning if not charismatic man to someone far more cruel.
+ 1545, 1546. a warrant for anne's arrest is signed. george nearly tears himself and those closest to him to pieces during this time. when anne is released, he conspires with her and other members of the boleyn faction to see thomas cromwell ousted from the good graces of henry viii.
+ 1557. henry viii dies. william is put on the throne. george is instated as lord protector.
+ 1558. execution of the earl of devon. george urges william to take a severe hand to not just hugh courtenay, but to anyone who dares question his rule or openly professes vitriol for the dowager queen. rumors begin to spread of george's desire — and, perhaps, very real ambitions — to remove any royal persons from the line of succession that aren't william or elizabeth.
+ 1559. present day. anne is married to thomas wyatt. it's becoming clear that those rumors of george's bloody-mindedness are, perhaps, not rumors at all.

St Dunstan’s Day
Tumblr media
Source: Saints, Feasts, Family website
Today is St Dunstan’s Day, which commemorates an early Archbishop of Canterbury. Before his conversion to Christianity, Dunstan was rumoured to have been an associate of Satan. This might explain why, after the newly devout Dunstan set himself up as a blacksmith, that the devil visited him at his forge at Mayfield, East Sussex, in the shape of a beautiful young woman in an attempt to divert him from the path of righteousness. However, Dunstan was wise to Satan’s tricks, having caught a glimpse of a cloven hoof peeping from the woman’s skirts, and as the seductress leant in, Dunstan grasped her by the nose with his blacksmith’s tongs. The devil cried out in agony, reverted to his true shape and fled to Tunbridge Wells to douse his throbbing nose in its waters, which explains why to this day, they are tinged with red and smell of sulphur.
Dunstan later received another visit from Satan, asking to have his hooves shod. This time Dunstan drove a nail through the horseshoe and deep into the devil’s foot. Dunstan promised to free Lucifer from his agony only if he promised never to enter a dwelling where a horseshoe was nailed up. Satan agreed which is why horseshoes remain a sign of good luck to this day. A more likely explanation for the charmed nature of the horseshoe is that it resembles the shape of the crescent moon, a very important symbol in pagan religion. Also iron, from which horseshoes are made, was felt to be a defence against the faerie realm.
Anne Boleyn was also executed on this day in 1536 and her ghost appears in many places, including Marvell Hall in Owslebury , the Tower of London and Blickling Hall in Norfolk.

Queen Anne Boleyn
Tumblr media
Anne Boleyn was born around [c. July 1501–1507] in Blickling Hall, Norfolk or Hever Castle, Kent. Her parents were Thomas Boleyn, 1st Earl of Wiltshire, 1st Earl of Ormond,1st Viscount Rochford [1477-1539] and Elizabeth Boleyn, Countess of Wiltshire (née Lady Elizabeth Howard) [c. 1480-1538]. She had a sister, Mary Boleyn [c. 1499-1543] and a brother, George Boleyn, Viscount Rochford [c. 1503/1504-1536].
In 1533 Anne Boleyn married the King of England, Henry VIII [1491-1547]. Together they had a daughter, Elizabeth I [1533-1603].
Anne Boleyn was the Queen Consort of England [May 28, 1533 - May 17, 1536]. Her coronation was on June 01, 1533.
After King Henry VIII had grown quite tired of Queen Anne, and wanting to marry his mistress, Jane Seymour, Queen Anne was charged with adultery, incest and treason. With the King wanting it so, Queen Anne was of course found guilty. She was beheaded on May 19, 1536 (aged 28-35) at the Tower of London, London, England. She was laid to rest at the Church of St. Peter ad Vincula, Tower of London, London, England.

THOMAS BOLEYN
THOMAS BOLEYN, 1ST EARL OF WILTSHIRE
c.1477-1539
Thomas Boleyn is the father of Queen Anne Boleyn, who was the second wife of King Henry VIII of England and the grandfather to her daughter Queen Elizabeth I.
Boleyn was born in Blickling Hall, Norfolk, England and married Elizabeth Howard in c. 1500. The couple had five children, only three survived: Mary, George and Anne Boleyn.
Boleyn was an English diplomat and politician for King Henry VIII who made him Knight of the Garter in 1523. In 1503 Boleyn escorted Princess Margaret Tudor, the king’s sister to Scotland to marry King James IV. As ambassador, Boleyn had contact with powerful figures around Europe including Archduchess Margaret of Austria who accepted his daughter, Anne to become her maid-of-honour. Boleyn was involved in the arrangements for the ‘Field of Cloth of Gold’ the meeting between Henry VIII and Francis I of France in 1520. He was at the meeting between Charles V and Pope Clement VII in 1529 to seek support for the marriage annulment of Henry VIII and his wife Catherine of Aragon.
Boleyn’s daughter Mary had been a mistress of Henry VIII and afterwards the King fell in love with his youngest daughter Anne and intended to marry her once his marriage to Catherine was annulled. Due to the king’s love for Anne, her family gained greater favour and Boleyn became Viscount Rochford.
Henry VIII married Anne in 1533 and was married for three years before he tired of her. Henry VIII wanted a son but Anne only gave birth to a surviving daughter, Elizabeth. Henry wanted out of his marriage and Anne was arrested for treason (for infidelity), and George was also arrested (for incestual relations with his sister). There was no strong evidence of these charges, but they were found guilty and were both executed in 1536.   Boleyn fell from grace and was replaced as Lord Privy Seal. He and his wife left court and returned to their family home, Hever Castle where his wife died two years later in 1538. Boleyn died a year later and was buried in St. Peter’s Church, Hever. After he died, Henry VIII took possession of Hever Castle and gave it to his fourth wife, Anne of Cleves after their marriage ended in 1540 it passed on to various owners. Mary, his surviving daughter married for love and was living a humble life away from court; she died in 1543 aged in her 40s. Through Mary Boleyn’s children, the Boleyn blood still exists on the English royal throne. Queen Elizabeth II’s mother, Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon is a direct descendant of Mary through her daughter Katherine Carey.
