Purely self indulgent character design for Marlfoxes (from Brian Jacques' Redwall novels)..... They're described as 'mottled' and I've never seen anyone show that!
(based off our grey foxes, because they have really fun designs)

Commission from Xenowolf23 to Kelaiah of Ublaz Mad Eyes from the Redwall book Pearls of Lutra! Funny enough I've only drawn one other Redwall character before and it was the protagonist from the same book. I'm happy with how this came out, colors especially!

BTW, Tumblrites, I need you to know in case you didn't already:
There is a Redwall cookbook. It's a hybrid picture book with illustrations and Redwall-verse snippets to go with each recipe.
You're welcome.

Underrated fantasy tropes: Food and Rest
Maybe it's just because I've been rereading The Classics lately [Redwall, Lord of the Rings, etc] but something about old fantasy and food is just so cozy. You can feel how weary the travelers and warriors are, so ready for respite. They describe food and baths and drink like it's heaven, good beds like it's the last sleep they'll ever have.
Battle valiantly, rest even more so.

Me: Hey, sis? Sis, guess what?
Goth Sister: What?
Me: Remember Redwall?
Goth Sister (screw it, we're calling her Sam after Sam Manson): My entire childhood? Yes, of course I remember that.
Me: Guess when the last book came out? *radiates gremlin energy*
Sam: Uhhhhh, like, 2014?
Me: 2011.
Sam: WHAT?!?!?!?!?!
Me: Yeah, like, May 24, 2011!
Sam: I was eight?!?!?!?!?!?!
Me: Girl, I was ten!
Sam: I coulda sworn I was like thirteen!
Me: Nope!
Sam: And this was Rogue Crew?
Me: Yep! Book 22!
Sam: When the #@&% did HTTYD 2 come out then?
Me: Like....November 22, 2014? Right before we got our first batch of sheep.
Sam: Stoik and Gobber the rams, yeah....
Sam: Holy #@&% though! Girl I know you're like...ace or some shit, but you have officially #@&%ed my brain!
Me: *laughs*
Me: *realizes the man who inspired me to write has been dead for 12 years and I've been whumping innocent character for just as long*
Me: Well shit!
