silly little swap au ive been cooking up!!!

the main idea here is that pinestar takes tigerkit with him to twolegplace in order to raise him away from the clans so he doesnt destroy them, or whatever that prophecy was about (still think its strange that starclan would set up this child like that but whatever). tiger sneaks away one day but is attacked by fuzzypelt/paw (haven’t decided - if nobody remembers fuzzypelt is ravenpaw/dustpelt’s dad! although hes a morally good background character in canon). from there tiger takes up a scourge-like role, assembling cats in twolegplace in order to someday enact his revenge on the clans.

so essentially au tiger = canon tiny/scourge, au fuzzypelt = canon tigerpaw/claw. ^^!

A Shinigami Women’s Association Celebration

Baked wild salmon with a lapsang souchong honey glaze

Topped with a vanilla cinnamon persimmon reduction, rosemary and macerated pinecones

Served on a bed of zucchini, onion, leek, farro, and arugula

Matsumoto likes adventurous food, and I wanted something that included smoke (ash) and persimmon elements, for Haineko and because she loves persimmons. I upped the liquid smoke in the recipe by subbing in lapsong souchong-infused honey instead of molasses, and added the candied pinecone for Matsumoto’s name (松 = Matsu = pine). Special thanks to @the-kings-tail-fin, who foraged and pureed the persimmon!

RECIPE DEVELOPMENT

Nanao (with Nemu’s assistance) braved the 12th and convinced Akon to give her access to his personal library of torrented books from the Living World, among them some exotic Western cookbooks. She did a lot of research into the different kinds of seasonings that distinguished Japanese from Western cooking. (Sasakibe would have happily helped her with this, but frankly he did not occur to her.)

From there, in much the way she weaves kidou, Hinamori suggested alterations to the recipe that would bring out flavors specific to Matsumoto: Persimmons, pine, smoke.

PREPARATION

Rukia and Kiyone were in charge of the actual cooking. Rukia’s initial plan was to convince the Kuchiki family chef to lend them use of the kitchen, but—as it happens—the Kuchiki family chef has a massive crush on Rukia, and so she volunteered to oversee their cooking exploits personally.

TASTE TEST

Yachiru and Nemu were on taste test duty—Yachiru because she volunteered, and Nemu because on one actually trusts Yachiru’s palate. Nemu, on the other hand, supplied a full flavor profile and molecular gastronomical workup for the recipe.

PAIRING

Isane made a persimmon rum punch to go with the meal, at Unohana’s suggestion. (Note: I did not make a persimmon rum punch, because I do not like alcohol and didn’t want to spend money on any. Sorry, Matsumoto!)

DESSERT

Beni imo manju! (Okinawan sweet potato pastry.) These are from Hitsugaya, and they’re from the shop in Junrinan where he and Matsumoto first met. 😊

Sometimes I wonder what a vision wielder's parents must think, when they realise that their kid will probably be on the frontlines due to their blessing.

I mean, in case of an emergency, vision wielders are probably expected to assist, even as a last line of defense.

Obviously the nations still have their military and take into account the protection of the younger ones like Klee, but still.

Imagine this realisation, when your four-year old shows up with a vision and all you can do is help them with their training, maybe nudge them in the direction of the towns wielders so they at least have friends and mentors to fight alongside.

Maybe that's part of the reason why Madame Ping has so many disciples.

All of the best cooks in the K universe have a food battle.

With Fushimi on the judging panel because he's the hardest to please XD So I wonder who would get to be part of the best cook challenge, Kuroh and Kamamoto definitely. Yata probably gets to be in there too, he's not like an amazing cook but he's still pretty good and proud of his skills. Kusanagi I think could join up, he makes food for the bar and feels that he's pretty respectable. On the S4 end definitely Kamo, though the fact that he was an actual chef is admittedly cheating a little. Totsuka and Awashima enter because they feel that their cooking skills are fairly good and everyone fears getting their meals to taste test (for opposing reasons, you don't know what's in Totsuka's food and you do know, unfortunately, what is most definitely in Awashima's). I imagine this stems from some kind of argument over whose cooking tastes the best, like Neko's at the bar with some Homra guys who are praising a meal Kamamoto made and that he's the best cook and Neko pipes up that Kuroh makes the best fish. This leads to a discussion of who cooks better and soon it's like a whole thing, how do we prove who cooks the best dish.

Munakata finds out about this somehow and because he has to make everything a production he decides that they should have a cooking battle. Imagine it's set up like one of those cooking shows, maybe they have to make an entire three course meal with an appetizer, main dish, and dessert. Munakata takes advantage of his position as a government official to like rent out a studio that belongs to a cooking show and he gets the full use of their pantry so that everyone can use whatever ingredients they need. There's a three judge panel, consisting of one judge from each clan – Fushimi is of course the Blue clan's pick and is the required Mean Judge from every cooking show ever, Neko is the judge for Hakumaitou and is just here to eat fish and be happy, and Anna is the judge for Homra, she's the fair judge who carefully tastes all the food and gives construction comments. Fushimi is given strict instructions that he's not allowed to remove points for the existence of vegetables.

The 'contestants' all start preparing meals and I imagine it's a fairly close race, Kuroh is definitely a frontrunner as is Kamamoto. Yata makes a pretty good showing but is helped by the fact that Fushimi's the hardest judge to please and Yata knows better than anyone what he likes and can adjust accordingly. Kamo is like the dark horse, obviously S4 knows that he's a great cook but no one else has realized that there's an actual chef working for S4 and I bet he gets super high marks for his main dish, a perfectly made fish that is definitely Neko's new favorite thing. In the end they probably can't agree on a winner, everyone's food is so good, meanwhile Kuroh, Kamamoto and Kamo are probably trading cooking tips and Yata's just happy that Fushimi had to eat some vegetables.
