Space Shuttle Enterprise lands at Dulles Airport to become part of the Smithsonian collection.
"Space Shuttle Enterprise on its arrival to become part of the collections of the Smithsonianʼs National Air and Space Museum, flies over the National Mall to Dulles Airport. The Enterprise was brought to Dulles atop a NASA Boeing 747 aircraft."
Timelapse in underground corridor of IAD (Washington Dulles). Not shown: the fucking mind-breaking sound of an ad for Applebee's that blasted at high volume. It was created to sound like a song or something, and technically I guess it was a song, but it was pretty bad. Put with the 50m-long LCDs that could have been showing ART or literally anything except the soul-numbing, incredibly boring "ads" they displayed, this was dystopian as fuck.
Which is just sad, because the corridor itself is an awesome bit of architecture, a beautiful space to be in. They ruined it.
I worked and lived in and around Washington DC from 1983-1994. I never dreamed when I decided to return to England that 28 years would pass before I returned, but time has a tendency of slipping away.
Nixon and Allen Dulles solidified a long term partnership while on their Atlantic cruise and tour of post-war Europe in 1947
*Read more about Nixon and the “coincidences” that led to him running for Congress in 1946:
“Herman Perry, Whittier Bank of America branch manager and Nixon family friend, wrote to Nixon, who was then a lieutenant commander in the Navy, telling him he should apply for the Campaign Committee's endorsement. Nixon replied enthusiastically. When Dexter finally turned the Committee down, he recommended Nixon, his onetime student.[10] Dexter died only days later of a heart attack, and Patton died in an auto accident before the 1946 campaign began.[10]”
During an impromptu, spur of the moment trip, a fire alarm was set off and caused an evacuation of the building which gave me just one opportunity to capture this shot with absolutely no people in it. Art is 95% luck and 5% talent.
Virginia Beer Company Free Verse IPA on tap at the United Polaris Lounge at IAD. A 3 of 4. A solid juicy IPA -- lots of tropical fruit and orange citrus, and a nice creamy body with a bit of heft to it. Fruity throughout, and a light bitterness fades in towards the finish.
