#Either way it's annoying and pathetic and while *hate* is a strong word... I strongly dislike them. š
Some writers/producers/directors have such obvious personal beefĀ with certain characters, and itās both hilarious and infuriating. Hilarious because of how pathetic it is, but infuriating because of how shitty they treat and talk about the character.

Adolfo Pirelli x fem reader
Broken
Requested: Yes and No :/ @theonewithagayweirdo also helped me with this one as well, this is a prompt that they gave meĀ āI wish, just once, you would love me like this ā no strings attached.ā and I sort of changed in a bit
warning: Angst, Mentions of heartbreak,Ā If those things trigger you, please don't read this :)
(Hey there so, this was quite the something to write and IĀ hope IĀ did ok and IĀ hope you like it :))
Now even though Adolfo was every woman's dream, he wasn't as nice as they thought he was. He was actually quite the opposite. He was rude to his apprentice Tobias, and would slap him for little to no reason at all. Tobias had actually came to you, after having no where else to go. This was a regular occurrence.
You had known Pirelli for only a few years but, in all those years he was always so proud and full of himself. He was never really mindful of those around him. Didn't really seem to care for their feeling unless it involved him. In front of a crowd he is this amazing, wonderful and handsome man. But behind closed doors he was rude, sour, and quite rotten on the inside.
With the few years you got to know him he was always nice to you. He would sometimes come to you home to greet you in the mornings, and sometimes bringing a rose. Always one, never anymore than that. He was sweet to you, always complimented you on your appearance. Conversations were normal and actual delightful. But when it came to going into the middle of town or walking along the sidewalk, or even going into a store, he would act off. As if he didn't even know you.
One day in the afternoon he had came to your home like many times before and confessed his live for you. Shocked was and understatement. He, Adolfo Pirelli, The king of barbers and the barber of kings, confessing his love to you. This must've been a dream. It was too good to be true.
Like you had told yourself two years ago "Too good to be true." Was also an understatement. He would act loving, caring behind closed doors but when it came to the citizens of the town he acted as if you were merely another woman amongst the crowd. You had even confronted him of your suspicions "My dear, I do this to make all the woman believe I am a single man. To make more money-" and blah blah and so on and so forth. You had believed it at the time. God did you want to believe a man such as him could be capable of loving one woman and one woman alone.
Sadly after two years of hidden suspicion, it finally was confirmed. One night you had decided to go out for a walk. Something back in the corner of your mind told you that you should. You didn't understand why but you did it anyways. You hadn't been walking for long, until you just so happen to glance down a random ally between two homes. There against the wall you saw two people. Both kissing. The sounds are what confirmed that, but it was the blue tailored pants that also caught your eye. No one else in town had pants such as those. No one had pants that fit them so well like that. No one except for Pirelli.
Your gasp had pulled them away from each other. The woman whom you had never seen before had a grin on her face and was still looking up at him. While his face slightly lighten up by the near street lamp had turned his full attention towards you. He opened his mouth to say something but no words had come out. He had no explanation for this, he had nothing that could possibly make this seem less than what it really was. At the very moment all you wanted do was run. Run down the pavement till you got home, so you could shut and lock your door. And that is what you did. You ran, and ran and ran till you got home.
When you got inside you locked the door. You back was against it as you stood there. Silence was deafening and you wanted the world to open up and swallow you. Take you away from this very moment, so you could forget what you had seen, forget the feeling of your heart breaking in your chest. The feeling of all the love you had for him go straight into the fire, forever gone. You walked a little way into your home, the floor boards creaking under the weight of your foot. You looked up and there, right in front of your face was a photo. A photo of one of your dear family members. It was of their family. All smiles and happy, hugging each other like that day could get any better for them. You were jealous. You wanted that, wanted that with Pirelli. You wanted a happy family, but all of thought of Pirelli were trashed.
Suddenly you hear a knock on your door. It hadn't occurred to you that Pirelli had probably followed you home. When you looked at the door you could see the shadow of feet at the bottom of your door. You didn't answer, you knew it was him. More knocks came and this time you heard his voice. "Y/n! Y/n are you in there? Please let me in, I can explain myself. Give me a chance!" He says as he frantically knock on your door. Though the knocking was annoying it was that last sentence. "Give me a chance." Give him a chance.....you had given him plenty of chances to love you, three years of crushing over him and what you had thought was a nice relationship between the two of you wasn't chance enough!? You barge over to the door and swing it open. Anger taking you over. "I don't want your explanation. I don't want your sorry. I don't want you around me anymore. I thought what we had was something good, something that was nice, but you proved to me that you don't give a damn about that! About how I feel towards you, I've never felt so strongly about someone until I met you, now all I feel so much anger and pain..." he shakes his head and bows his head down "I thought what we had was a no strings attached relationship. Something both neither of us would put much into. It was only recently that I began to have feeling for you, but I was scared y/n. I was so scared." He says as he starts to grab your hand. Not wanting anything to do with him or his touch you yanked your hand back. "For years, I wished for a family. I wished for a man to come sweep me off my feet and love me endlessly. I thought I found that with you. But even when this started you seemed like you were ashamed to be near me. I even tricked myself into thinking you loved me too. I wish you did. I wish, just once, you would love me like this-" you say as you point furiously at the photo on the wall. Tears begin to fall down your cheeks. Your eyes red and puffy already, you shake your head and breath shakily " 'No strings attached', I really thought you were the one. I even told my family about you!? How stupid is that, so God damn pathetic!" You say yelling the last part out. He flinched at your outburst. He knew that what he said was wrong, he knew he had fucked up. He could see in your eyes, the look on your face, the way you shook from the anger you felt towards him, that nothing could change how you for him now. You hated him, hated how he made you feel for him. And all you wanted was him gone. Out of your life, your home and far away from you. "I-" "Get out." he looks at you , hoping that you would let him stay and do something that could everything better "Y/n please." "I said, Get OUT! Right now! I don't want you here! GO!" you scream at him. he looks down yet again, he turns on his feet and opens the door and steps out onto your doorstep. He looks back at you, wanting to say something but keeps his mouth shut. Then he walks away. Walking underneath the street lamps and in his own guilt. That day all feeling for him turned to anger. Anger that would take decades to go away. You never wanted to talk to him again. Didn't even want to see his face either. You were simply and utterly, Broken.
(Hey again, so I hope you liked this and if so please leave feedback it helps a lot and I appreciate every bit of it! Have an amazing day and stay strong!)

Kid scenario : falling for and rescuing a mentally and physically abused pirate girl (read after the cut)
āAnother round!ā Kid yells, slamming his empty beer stein on the bar counter. āAnd make it quick!ā
Killer, still hidden behind his mask, grabs Kid by the arm, slightly putting some strength in his gesture.
āOĆÆ, OĆÆ, donāt you think itās enough?ā Killer says, almost gently. āThey are all either asleep or already in a coma.ā
Kid, as an answer, rolls up his lips, offering his most threatening smile to his longtime friend. Killer only sighs, pushing his empty glass to the bartender, knowing that he canāt reason with Kid when heās too drunk to even answer. He pats his captain shoulder, too tired to continue this useless and everlasting binge drinking, preferring to head back to their ship, perhaps escorting of few of their companions if they canāt walk alone. Kid doesnāt mind. Tonight, he wants to drink, and thereās no reason for him to act differently. Killer could be a mood killer sometimes ā no pun intended here, but itās true ā and Kid simply doesnāt even try to convince him anymore; heād rather drink alone, celebrating his lonely victory as the last man standing in the middle of the bar.
āCan I have a beer please?ā A soft voice asks, almost timidly.
Kid raises a curious eyebrow, slightly turning his head to observe this new person from the corner of his eyes. He only notices a blurry shape, sitting next to him, probably a woman, and it seems that sheās having a rough night. Kid canāt properly focus anymore, so he grumbles an insult ā not directly against the woman, but mostly because of his poor ability to remain discreet at the moment ā and spins on his stool, facing her. She doesnāt even look at him, putting a few berries on the counter to pay, while she patiently waits for her drink to be ready. It pisses Kid a lot, as he leans his body against the wooden bar, trying his best to keep his balance while he impolitely stares at her.
āDo I have something on my face?ā She eventually asks, furrowing her eyebrows, offering him an impatient glare.
Kid snorts, taking a swallow from his fresh beer, drops of the beverage falling on his chest, almost pitifully.
āDespite your shiner and your bruises? Nah, sweetheart, you got nothing.ā He mocks.
She blushes for a second, as she loses face, and immediately looks away; her eyes remain focus on the bottles behind the bar. She thanks the bartender when this one pushes her drink on the counter, grabs the handle of her stein, but before she can actually stand back up, Kid violently catches her arm.
āHey, who did that?ā
āMind your own business,ā she snaps, pulling on her sleeve to escape Kidās grip. āIs this something you do? Harassing people you donāt even know?ā
Kid, who wanted to have fun, starts to find her terribly annoying. He vividly pushes her away, as she spills her booze on the floor. Kid, inwardly, wants to apologize, because he canāt control his strength at the moment, but since she looks at him with those furious eyes, he only offers a bestial grin.
āWanna fight?ā He teases, clenching his fist to mime a punch, yet, he only notices this frightening light in her eyes. āOĆÆ, donāt look at me like that, Iām kidding! Jesusā¦ Does anybody in this bar can actually fucking joke?ā
He spins on his hips, raising his voice, facing the almost empty bar while he looks at his crewmembers, already snorting on their couches, far from waking up. He notices that sheās once again about to turn around and leaves him, so this time, he stands back up on puts his massive palm on her shoulder.
āOĆÆ, seriously, donāt go,ā he orders, while he really looks at her face for the very first time. āI owe you a drink, right? Come. Put your ass on datā stool, and drink with me.ā
She hesitates for a second, her eyes travelling between Kidās and the chair, but since she seems to understand that heās not ready to let her go, she deeply sighs and nods. Kid, who notices that his hand is still pressing her shoulder, immediately pulls it away, almost disgust by his own gesture, while he seats again, staring at her until she imitates him.
For the next hour, they manage to keep a conversation, even if they deeply disagree on most of the topics. Yet, they seem to both have this same powerful need to conquer the world, and remain free, for the rest of their lives. Kid, even if he canāt truly understand it, starts to really appreciate her. She has a beautiful face, enlightening with a gorgeous gleaming whenever she speaks about her dreams. He canāt get his eyes off her, fascinating by the way she moves her hands while she talks, or tilts her head when she listens to his adventures, strands of her silken hair tickling her cheek, to the point that Kid almost want to place them behind her ear. She seems smart, but also strong, and after a moment, Kid canāt help himself. He smiles brightly, in the middle of the conversation, while she furrowed her eyebrows, not understanding his sudden happiness.
āDid I say something funny?ā She asks, irritates.
āNah. But I tell you what, Name. Iām taking you in my crew!ā
She opens her mouth, truly shocked, losing this adorable gleaming on her features, her complexion becoming suddenly darker. She loses her spirit, as if sheās slowly but surely fading in front of Kidās clueless eyes.
āI canāt.ā She simply answers, avoiding his look for a moment.
āWhat the fuck, of course you can.ā He snaps angrily.
āNo! Itāsā¦ Itās against my captainās rules! He willā¦He willā¦ā She canāt even finish her sentence, looking away, unable to face Kid and his judge stare.
Kid is about to throw that sheās nothing but a coward, but he notices her sudden deeply frightened stare while she looks at the entrance of the bar. She immediately jumps on her feet, despair but also fear written all over her face. Kid would usually find it pathetic, yet, he hates what heās seeing at the moment. He turns his head to look at whatās scarring her. He discovers a man, leaned against the doorway, arm crossed around his chest. Heās not alone, a few companions are waiting behind him, bestial grins plastered on their features.
āSo there she is,ā the man says, walking in the bar, holding a sort of wooden stick. āSee guys, thatās why we need to tame women when we accept them in a crew!ā
āIām sorry!ā She cries, running in front of him, her shoulders tensed, gazing at the floor. āIām sorry, captain! I didnāt mean to ā Argh!ā
She falls on the ground, cupping her cheek, right where he has just hit her with his stick. The men around him abruptly mock her. She looks like a frightened puppy, unable to get back on her feet, while his captain overlooks her, a devilish smirk on his lips. Kid, well, feels his blood boiling in his veins. He suddenly stands back up, his fist clenched, as the captain raises his stick and points it at him.
āMind your own business, Eustass Kid. Sheās under my orders, and I rule my ship how I want.ā
āI should just beat the shit out of youā¦,ā Kid threats, already coming to face the man.
āKid!ā Someone yells behind the enemyās crewmates, transforming Kidās raging face into something grumpier.
Killer makes his way in the bar, pushing a few men out of his path, decided to face his captain. Kid looks at him for a moment, understanding that Killer must have his reasons, yet, it pisses him even more.
āItās not our problem.ā Killer says, not even looking at the crying girl on the floor. āWe canāt fight here. We canāt fight now.ā
Kid, who was about to insult his first mate, freezes and stares at him, feeling that Killerās statement had a deeper meaning. He rolls up his lips, stopping himself from throwing other mean words to his best friend. When Kid is close enough, Killer simply puts his hand on his shoulder, squeezing it strongly, knowing that Kid is about to literally kill everyone in the room. Sheās still sobbing on the floor, his captain suddenly grabbing her by her hair, forcing her to get back on her feet.
āIām going to have a bit of fun with her, Kid,ā the captain teases, pulling so much on her hair that she canāt even scream anymore, her tiny hands gripping and scratching his wrists to make him stop. āYou donāt mind?ā
āWhatever.ā Kid snaps, rushing out of the bar, followed by Killer.
He doesnāt even look at her, even if deep down, he only wishes to throw her over his shoulders and gets her out of here, and immediately.
***
Kid didnāt sleep that night. After he has followed Killer out of the bar, he has literally blown a fuse, yelling so loudly at Killer that he has awaken almost his entire crew. He wanted to help her, yet, Killer thought that it was just another whim from his captain; so, he has decided to step in and prevent him from doing something even stupider than usual. Kid is well known for having hot blood. He canāt barely control himself when he lets his emotions guide his behaviors and his decisions. Killer has always been there to balance his captainās wild temper. And for his first mate, killing an entire crew for the sake of having another conquest in his bed is frankly wrong, and for a moment, Kid couldnāt deny that it was not a part of his plan. Yet, he canāt forget at her face, nor this adorable blush blooming on her cheeks, or her confident eyes when she was talking to him. She was different from any other girls; enough to make him obsessed in less than a night.
Early in the morning, Kid is already on the deck, gazing at the ocean with furious eyes. He hears footsteps coming behind him, and he doesnāt even bother to turn his head; he knows Killer observes him since yesterday.
āYou didnāt sleep.ā Killer states, looking in the same direction as Kid.
āNah.ā
Killer sighs, and then turns his head to analyze Kidās thoughts, his captain face somehow dangerously serious.
āYouāre going to do it, right?ā
āYeap.ā
āYouāre going to tell me to fuck off if I say that itās not a good idea?ā
Kid snorts and nods, offering a bestial smile to Killer, before he slams his shoulder with his palm.
āYeah, shut up. I heard you yesterday. You said not now.ā
***
She almost jumps off her hammock when she hears a powerful slam directly coming up from the deck. Sheās terrified at the idea that thereās a new problem with her captain today, her body unable to take another punch from his wooden stick. He punished her wildly, yesterday night, covering her with many bruises, hitting her so violently that he opened old and forgotten wounds. Slowly, she gets out of her uncomfortable bed, barely able to keep her balance, while she hears voices coming from upstairs. She clearly doesnāt have a clue on whatās happening, but there are many threatening noises exploding on the deck, covered by her crewmatesā yells, and her captain voice. She strongly grips the guardrail of the stairs, grimacing because of the pain caused by her many wounds. She tries her best to make it quick, but she canāt walk very fast, struggling so hard not to fall in the middle of her climb.
When she opens the door leading to the deck, she barely has no time to avoid one of her mate, flying in the air, to crash his body down the stairs, as she squats down and hides her face with her arms. She gasps, shocked to see that someone is able to throw him this way, since his large and big enough to be considerate as giant. She turns her head and looks at the deck, her jaw falling, when she immediately recognizes Kid, and his scarlet hair.
āCome here, fucking cows!ā Kid yells, a gigantic mechanic arm pelting her crewmates in every direction. āIāll make you eat your own shit, fuckers!ā
Kid is here for less than five minutes, but has already taken down almost everyone on the ship. There are only a few on her companions still standing, but not so willing to enter the fight. The captain is also here, vituperating many orders to his subordinates, pushing on their shoulders so they attack Kid, despite their insecure features. As the captain suddenly notices her presence, he rushes at her to grab her wrist and brings her in the middle of the deck.
āThis is your fault, you bitch!ā The captain hisses, as he slaps her cheek with all his strength. āFucking whore, look what you did!ā
He grabs her jaw, squeezing her cheeks so furiously that his fingers already mark her skin. He forces her to look at her fallen crewmates, ignoring her painful groans. Kid, looking at them, feels that he canāt control himself anymore. He canāt bear the vision of her being hurt so violently by this man. No one would ever lay a hand on her anymore. No one.
āFucking leave her alone, dickhead!ā Kid shouts, raising his arm in the air.
āWhat the hell are you even saying, kiddo? Sheās mine! Sheās under my flag!ā
The captain rolls an arm around her shoulders, restraining her against his chest, using her as a human shield. Kid feels like heās at the edge of losing his mind, his eyes glaring at him with so much anger in them that it almost hurts his brain.
āSheās not yours anymoreā¦,ā Kid snarls, looking at her frightening face. āSheās coming with me!ā
She widens her eyes, her heart pumping hard inside her chest while she understand that Kid is more than serious. She pinches her lips together, her fingers gripping her captainās arm, harshly enough to scratch his skin with her nails. She doesnāt want to be away from Kid anymore, she only wishes to run in his arms and forget about this awful nightmare.
āBite him!ā Kid suddenly orders, his arm now ready to strike him. āBite him, now!ā
Without any hesitation, and before her captain can react, she ferociously digs her teeth inside his skin, so strongly that she actually passes through his thin flesh, blood splashing inside her mouth. Her captain yells, and by instincts, repulses her away, right before he understands that it was his biggest mistake. As he turns his eyes, the gigantic mechanic arm is already punching him violently, until he disappears in the middle of the air, to fall far from the ship with a pathetic flop. She catches her breath, unable to maintain her balance anymore, as she sits abruptly on the deck, unable to think straight. Kid makes him robotic arm disappears, wiping some blood at the edge of his mouth.
āYou good?ā He asks, coming near her, even if he still doesnāt know how to act with her.
She lifts her chin up, still shocked, yet finding the strength to nod slightly. Kid looks at her for a moment, yet really ashamed by his odd feelings towards her. He immediately turns around, already leaving the deck.
āOĆÆ, move your ass, Name,ā he snaps, grumpy, as he stops, ready to jump off the deck.
āCould youā¦Help?ā
He exaggeratedly sighs, looking behind him to notice that she has some difficulties to walk. He angrily walks back to her, lifting her with one arm as he literally throws her over his shoulder, carrying her like a potatoes sack. He circles her hips to have a better grip, his large hand strongly grasping the roundness of her ass.
āHey, what about your hand, pervert?ā She growls, her cheeks colored with an intense shade of red.
āShut up, brat. I do what I want, since Iām your capā now.ā Kid answers, carrying her to his ship.

more than a pretty face.
Pairing: Ben Hardy x OC
AN: I know some people prefer the āPerson x Readerā style, but I wanted to try my hand at an original character. I hope you guys still like this story. Itās based loosely off the song āAnnabelleā by A Rocket to the Moon. This story is to make up to my Ben stans for making the āRewrite the Starsā story about Joe. Tags list is open. Let me know what you think!
Warning: Some bad languageĀ Ā
Hate was such a strong word. Charlie really didnāt like the thought that she felt strongly enough about anyone that she could warrant saying she hated them. However, the sound of Sophiaās voice and just being around her in general woke a sleeping beast inside of her that she could barely contain. It didnāt make it any better that Sophia was dating Ben, another person that she had strong negative feelings for, and they were both part of Charlieās mutual friend group.
It made it hard to go out because Charlie would find herself constantly rolling her eyes or scoffing at everything Sophia or Ben said. She had always believed that Ben was a little too cocky, and it was a universal truth that Sophia was a bitch. She knew that her other friends couldnāt stand her either, but they were cordial because they cared about Ben. Charlie didnāt care about either one of them, so she never tried to hide how she felt.
It was a typical Friday night, and Charlie was out with her friends, Rami and Joe. It was almost tradition for the three of them to go out to dinner, and then spend the evening bar-hopping down the street from Joeās apartment. It was something they had all done forever. The one thing that had changed over the past year, however, was the fact that it had gone from three people to five. Neither Joe nor Rami would admit that they had been the ones to invite Ben and Sophia along, both in fear of what Charlie might do to them if they came clean.
On this particular Friday night, Ben and Sophia were out grinding on the dancefloor while Charlie, Joe, and Rami sat at a high-top table in the corner. Charlie was sipping her beer slowly, her eyes gliding over the crowd of people to try and determine whether there was anyone present that might be worth her time. Occasionally, her eyes would graze over Benās blond head, and bile would rise in her throat. They look like hormonal teenagers, she thought to herself, more than a little disgusted. She would quickly turn her gaze elsewhere, fighting to get the image of the two of them out of her head.
āI just have to know,ā Joe started, pulling Charlieās attention back to the two boys sitting next to her. āis there ever going to be a time when you look at them and not get a nauseated look on your face?ā
She lifted her beer back to her lips and shrugged.
āYou canāt tell me that you guys enjoy having her around,ā Charlie replied. Rami and Joe glanced between each other, and Joeās eyes found hers again.
āWell, no. But Ben seems to like her, therefore we tolerate her.ā
āHow noble. Ben isnāt my friend, so I donāt owe him the same courtesy.ā Charlie started to turn back to continue her search for a dance partner, but was brought back again, this time by Ramiās voice.
āAnd why do you not like Ben, again?ā
Charlie sighed and set her beer down on the table. Ever since Rami and Joe had met Ben on the set of their last movie, they had been trying so hard to get the two of them to get along. It wasnāt necessarily that Ben had done anything wrong, but there was just something about him that rubbed her the wrong way.
āHeās so full of himself. Heās a pretty boy, and he knows it. Itās just annoying.ā
Out of the corner of her eye, she saw Joe smirk but she chose to ignore it. Ā
āI think if you took the time to actually get to know him, you would see how wrong you were.ā Ā
Charlie scoffed, and shook her head. She couldnāt imagine a world where her and Ben would actually get along. They were too different. Or maybe they were too similar. Either way, the two of them being friends was something that would surely end in disaster if ever given the chance.
When Charlieās eyes turned back towards the dancefloor, she felt her stomach drop when she saw Ben was making his way back towards the table. Sophia was no longer at his side, but Charlie knew that she wasnāt lucky enough for her to be lost permanently. As he was walking up, Benās green eyes met Charlieās briefly, but he quickly looked away.
While Rami and Joe held Charlie accountable for the tension and distaste between her and Ben, Ben had never done anything to warrant any kind of positive affections either. From the second they met, he had been cocky and so sure of himself, but never overly politeāthe complete opposite of how all his other friends described him. Ā
āI think Soph and I are going to head out,ā Ben said as he approached the table. Regardless of how much she didnāt like him, Charlie couldnāt ignore the way his deep, smooth voice sent chills through her body. It was something that only made her hate him more.
āSo soon? We just got here,ā Joe complained. Ben gave some excuse over Sophia suddenly not feeling well, but Charlie chose to pretend like she wasnāt listening. That was, until her eyes landed on Sophia near the bar, her arm draped over the shoulder of a strange man she had never seen before.
āShe looks alright to me.ā
Charlieās voice caught Benās attention and he turned so that his gaze was following hers. She could see his shoulders deflate slightly, but he quickly recovered before turning back to her with a passive look on his face.
āItās probably just a friend. This is the neighborhood she grew up in, after all.ā
Charlie shrugged off his comment, not willing to start an argument over something she cared so little about. Besides, the two of them both knew that that man was not āsome friendā, because things like this were known to happen all the time. Not only was Sophia a bitch, but she was also horrifically disloyal.
āBenā¦ā Rami started when he caught on to what was happening, but Ben just waved him off. Ā
Charlie seemed to be the only one clued in on just how horrible of a person Sophia was, because she seemed to be the only one who would ever catch her in the act. Whenever Ben wasnāt around, Sophia would fall all over the first tall, handsome man she could find until Ben returned. Sometimes, Sophia would even sneak off with one of the guys and no one would see her for over an hour, before returning looking flushed and disheveled. Charlie had tried to tell the others, but no one wanted to believe that anyone would do something like that to Ben. Ā
āI gotta go. Iāll talk to you guys later,ā Ben said dismissively, giving both Rami and Joe small waves and brushing past Charlie without saying a word. Ā
The three of them watched as Ben approached Sophia from behind and wrapped his arm around her waist. She pretended like she was excited to see him, but the confused look on the other manās face told them that she had failed to mention her boyfriend. Ā
āGod, he deserves so much better,ā Joe mumbled, sculling back the last of his drink.
āHe allows it to happen. Heās only enabling her,ā Charlie cut in, earning glares from her other two friends. Ā
āHe loves her. Love is a complicated thing,ā Rami murmured sympathetically, and Charlie rolled her eyes. She had been in love before- once, and a very long time ago- but she still knew that love was not allowing someone to repeatedly cheat on and emotionally abuse you.
āItās a pathetic thing,ā she chided, standing up from her seat and grabbing her empty beer bottle. āIām going to grab another drink. Do you want anything?ā Both men shook their head and Charlie turned to head towards the bar.
As she sauntered through the crowd, she became increasingly aware of how dead the bar actually was. Sure, there seemed to be quite a few people, but they were mostly couples or guys that were way too young for her. Not that it mattered, anyways. Now that Ben and Sophia were gone, Charlie knew that she would finally be able to enjoy her night with Rami and Joe. Awards season was about to start, so she knew that their time was going to become more limited.
Once she had her drink in her hand, she headed back towards the table where Rami and Joe were waiting. They had been talking animatedly about something, but when she approached, they abruptly stopped. Her eyebrow quirked as she gave them a questioning look, but neither one of them offered her an explanation.
āYou guys are acting mighty suspicious. Do you have something you would like to share?ā
Rami quickly shook his head.
āNo, maāam. Just guy talk, you know,ā Joe replied, only causing her to be more suspicious. The boys seemed to be having more of these secret conversations lately. Ever since they had gone away to film Bohemian Rhapsody, Charlie had started to feel more and more out of the loop.
āWhatever you say,ā she mumbled in response, sliding onto the barstool next to Rami. Ā
āAfter Charlie is finished with her drink, what do you say we just head back to my place? We can drink and play games or something,ā Joe suggested, and Rami and Charlie instantly agreed. The mood for the night had changed since Ben and Sophia left early, and all Charlie really wanted to do was relax. Ā
āPerfect. Iāll see if Ben wants to come by.ā Charlie felt her stomach drop at Joeās suggestion, but just rolled her eyes.
āI doubt princess Sophia would let him leave her side,ā Charlie muttered under her breath, not really intending for the other two to hear her. When Rami laughed, she could feel her cheeks go pink.
āWeāll see about that,ā Joe replied, a hint of mischief in his voice. Joe and Rami really were up to something, and Charlie was determined to find out what.

i fucking hate fair game
tl;dr There are too many words ā a majority of the words in this story build up to obnoxious and redundant/otherwise unnecessary sentences, paragraphs and thoughts.
Fair Game by Monica Murphy is a New Adult Romance that is largely about how badly cliche insecure lead Jade Frost and cliche rich playboy Shepard Prescott want to fuck each other and, occasionally, how much Jade Frost and Shepard Prescott enjoy fucking each other. Thereās some hubbub at the begin about Shepard āwinningā Jade in a bet but itās largely of little importance to the plot besides being one of the many little bits of misogyny.
Fair Game currently has largely positive reviews ā itās not very many reviews, I doubt Iāve seen more than 10 either Goodreads or Google Play, but theyāre not just positive, itās 4.4/5s. This is initially confusing to me and anyone else whoās had to listen to me talk about how much I hate this book and its characters (especially Jade, seriously fuck her). But it makes some sense once you consider fanfiction.
This is not a knock on fanfiction, Iāve read many incredibly good fanfiction. Some of the best pieces of writing Iāve ever read were fanfiction. I wrote fanfiction from the age of 12 to about 16/17 ā I wasnāt mega popular but I had reviews blowing up my inbox at my peak. From experience, I can tell you that itās not really difficult to write enjoyable fanfictions. Itās not hard to write fanfics that people will like. Because someone else has already done most of the heavy lifting for you ā itās not necessary to work especially hard to establish characters or develop relationships, most of your readers are already know all of it and, most importantly, most of them are already emotionally invested in them. I got by writing romances by just hitting a few beats; I didnāt need to know why Inuyasha and Kagome would fall for each other or think especially hard about what they like about each other, Rumiko Takahashi sorted that shit out and itās just safe to assume it carried over somehow.
I donāt think this covers all of the positive reviews or all fans of Fair Game but, personally, I assume some of the emotional investment people have in Fair Game, its core āromanceā and its characters are not a result of anything thatās actually in Fair Game. Iāll admit to you right now that thereās tons of manga, anime, books etc. that I have read and enjoyed because the characters hit on archetypes I was already invested in or because they reminded me of my characters, not because of the writing of the material itself because sometimes it was kind of garbage.
Another thing I will talk about is yaoi ā Iāve recently gotten particularly into yaoi, especially reading it off the ebookrenta site. Most of them are pretty trashy ā some of them are honestly, kind of garbage, some of them know what they are and know that engaging characters and romantic developments are absolutely not necessary. I can tell you Iāve read a lot of garbage, although Iāve read some really interesting, emotional and complex stories, most of it is just finding a way to get two hot guys to fuck each other. And, to be completely honest, thatās all Iām reading it for anyways. So itās not particularly important that their relationship seems fairly shallow or contrived; that if I really thought about it, I couldnāt tell you what the characters like about each other or even much about them at all ā the art is cute and the sex scenes are decently drawn. And maybe I wouldāve felt that way about Fair Game if theyād spent less time talking about fucking and more time actually fucking and if they also spend less time thinking stupid, obnoxious and redundant stuff during the sex scenes so that I could focus on what they were doing and not how much I fucking hate Jade, how douche-y Shep is and what a misogynist Monica Murphy almost certainly is.
Thereās also the likely fact that the other readers probably have a higher tolerance for all of the absolutely hokey sounding shit thatās in the book, a lack of well developed anything and MISOGYNY.
Letās talk about the misogyny for a bit, actually. Thereās nothing thatās out and out women are dumb stuff, thereās just little things like:
Ā·Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā all the obnoxious, unnecessary moments of slut-shaming like:
oĀ Ā Jade describing her roommate jumping from relationship to relationship while stressing that she wasnāt a slut
oĀ Ā Shep remarking that the revealing top Jade wore to a party is revealing but not trashy
oĀ Ā Shep lifting Jade about as a natural beauty by putting down all of his previous sexual partners as being fake or deceitful by wearing heavy makeup and dying their fucking hair
oĀ Ā Jadeās use of the word skank
oĀ Ā Jadeās roommate (Kelli) use of the word whore (which could be a sort of friendship thing if not for the rest of the fucking book)
oĀ Ā the fact that Jade is adamant on not having sex with Shep purely because she seems to think sheāll lose something by just having a one-night stand with a guy she finds sexually attractive - up until they actually get to having sex, then sheās scared to catch feels
oĀ Ā and the following arenāt centered around women but itās actually slut-shaming all the same:
Ā§Ā the use of the word man-whore to describe Shep
Ā§Ā the pervasive idea that thereās anything inherently wrong with Shep being uninterested in pursuing romantic relationships ā heās hooking up with girls who are also only interested in hooking up, that doesnāt make him a fucking asshole or even a playboy so you fucked up your archetype here Monica
Ā·Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā the way all the other girls interested in Shep are treated (which is probably also slut-shaming) and, in fact, the way any girl that is not Jade or Kelli is described in this story
Ā·Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā the PMS stuff on both Jade and Shepās part
Ā·Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā the way Shep sexually objectifies Jade every time he talks about her and I mean literally every time
Ā·Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā the way Shep just plain objectifies Jade and how the story doesnāt seem to think of it as problematic ā he suggests that she be thrown into the pot during a poker game, he tries to use āwinningā her in the bet as a way to get close to her at least twice which is two times too many, he calls her a fucking prize near the end
Ā·Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā the fact that Shep āchangingā just means heāll tone down the misogyny and douchebaggery when it concerns Jade and only Jade
Ā·Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā the fact that Jade suggests Shep should go and hook up with a drunk girl instead of with her
Ā·Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā the fact that Shep thinks Jade being on her period is a test from God and this is allowed to continue without any hint whatsoever that itās a disgustingly self-centred notion or douche-y thing to say
Additionally, thereās little bits of actual misandry because Jade is the fucking worst:
Ā·Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā she says something to the affect of āyouāre a man, of course all you think about is sexā
Ā·Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā she literally says āmen are so patheticā
Ā·Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā sheās disgusted by a toilet purely by thinking of all the specifically male butts that have been on it
And just as a bonus, hereās things I hate about Jade:
Ā·Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā sheās not strong or defiant ā sheās just rude for no reason and blatantly dishonest about her feelings throughout the whole story for also no reason really; itās treated not like a major character flaw but itās actually something Shepard likes about her
Ā·Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā the way she thinks ā just the way she phrases things sometimes just piss me off
Ā·Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā she says repeatedly that ā[Shep] confuses meā but Shepard is actually pretty straight-forward and honest about his feelings the entire story ā heās not confusing, youāre just insecure and projecting that onto him which is something you should be at least a little aware of, given that youāre a fucking psychology major
Ā·Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā her insecurity feels like itās there because of the clichĆ©s anyways
oĀ Ā sheās had 2 boyfriends ā 1 was pretty long-term and they only broke up because they didnāt want to do long distance once they picked different schools and the other one tries to get back together with her but apparently neither of them ever said she was beautiful
oĀ Ā even though her performance anxiety is driven pretty hard before she has sexual intercourse with Shep, itās barely there immediately before she has sex with Shepard, itās almost as if she only has performance anxiety so that sex with Shepard is that much more special and unique
Ā·Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā the story tries to act like sheās a strong character but she just does whatever sheās told after saying no maybe once or twice ā and despite Shep saying āshe doesnāt fall for my shitā every thing she does in the story, with few exception, is motivated by him in some part and sheād been taken with him since chapter one
Ā·Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā even though sheās only had 2 boyfriends, she later talks as if sheās very experienced
Ā·Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā itās later strongly implied that the only reason sheās never successfully orgasmed during intercourse before is because she wasnāt willing to communicate her needs or wants with her previous sexual partners yet somehow itās their fault ā Shep doesnāt have āmagicā fingers, he just asked what you liked and you actually fucking told him, itās not hard you fucking dolt
Ā·Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Jade: "Has he been keeping tabs on me? I hope not, I'm infinitely boring, especially by Shep standards."
Jade, literally on the next page: "Not that I care what this man thinks of me anymore."
Ā·Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā "I'm supposed to hate it when he calls me baby, but I don't." ā who told you that Jade? Why are you supposed to hate it, JADE???
Things that annoy me about Shep (besides the stuff under the misogyny list):
Ā·Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā every time he says or thinks something and then goes BOY AM I DOUCHEY or WOW EVEN I THINK I SOUND LIKE A RICH ASSHAT
Ā·Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā the fact that he thought Jade being on her period was a test from G O Ā D
Ā·Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā the fact that he didnāt immediately follow the āmaybe sheās on her period because God is trying to make me fail to hook up with herā with one of those BOY AM I DOUCHEY moments
Ā·Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā every time outside of a sex scene that he told us his dick was twitching
Ā·Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā heās not really funny
Yeah so this book is terrible. If Iād paid money for it, I would be furious. If I could give it negative stars, I actually would. Monica Murphy seems like she doesnāt know how to convey things subtly so whenever she can, she makes sure to spell it explicitly in some of the most obnoxious cases of telling instead of showing that Iāve seen in my entire life. Every time something about the characters, their feelings or their relationships are referenced, it is like it is the first time itās ever been mentioned.
Also, thereās a superfluous āplotā point tacked on at the end about Jadeās mom selling their home and Jade needing a place to stay. It serves no real point and is wholly unnecessary as what little it does do could be done in literally any other way. In fact, Jadeās relationship with her mom is talked about a few times but it adds nothing to her character or the story so itās also totally unnecessary.
I didnāt buy their romance ā I donāt think these characters know much of anything about each other because I donāt know much of anything about either them besides what establishes their archetypes and their physical appearances. When they do start to learn about each other, aside from one scene, itās all basically āoff-cameraā and weāre told about it after the fact. These are not two people falling in love with each other, these are two people who wanna fuck each other and love fucking each other. It was also extra annoying whenever the story acknowledged that these are two character who barely know each other falling for each other for apparently no reason.
Also stuff like this was actually written and (self-)published:
Ā·Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Guys like to watch. They're visual beings. Hello, porn.
Ā·Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā I come face to penis within a few shocking seconds.
Ā·Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Damn he's so strong. I'd really like to see him naked.
Ā·Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā God, look at me. Yes, me. Straight-laced, good girl Jade Frost is hanging out with a billionaire spoiled sexy brat who runs an illegal freaking casino in a house just off campus. What have I done? Who am I, for God's sake?
Ā·Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā I need to be able to handle all of her moods. Is this some sort of test? Is God upstairs laughing at me, throwing me one obstacle after another in the hopes that I'd fail? (this is the PERIOD thing and no Iām not over it)
Ā·Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā She slowly shakes her head, all those wayward strands of hair tickling her cheeks. Her hair is like fire. Vibrant and bright, wild and free - I sound like a fucking poet in my head. Jesus.
Ā·Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā "Five minutes," I tell her, leaning in so I can press a quick kiss to her surprised lips. Who knew lips could be surprised? And they would taste so damn good?
