Reading a book thinking that the male lead is just a bit too cartoonishly evil, and then when I look it up after finishing it only to learn it caused a scandal when published because the male lead was basically universally recognized as the author's husband like... Yikes.gif

Thank you so much for opening this up and for the list, Suzannah! :) Below are my asks~~
5. What is your ultimate favourite book?
11. Favourite authors? (Feel free to include/emphasize the underrated/non pop ones ;)
31. Is there a particular album/movie/TV show that really matched the vibes of a book you read? Which ones?
39. Favourite book to movie/TV show adaptation? (feel free to throw in a few - old+new are appreciated ;)
42. If you could change the ending of any one book, which book would you pick and why?
58. A book that emotionally wrecked you?
Thank you so much!
5. My favourite book of all time is The Lord of the Rings. Not a single misplaced word. The greatest artistic achievement of the 20th century, bar none. Demonstrates magnificent command of narrative, spectacular use of language, majestic thematic resonance, unforgettable settings and characters, impeccable grasp of military strategy and tactics, and an ending so poignant in its bittersweet emotion that it lifts an already brilliant book into the pantheon of great classics.
It may surprise you to learn that this is my favourite book because I've never even attempted to write anything remotely like it, but this is simply me recognising that I'd be an utter loon to try.
11. Favourite authors? I have so many! Among the dead my faves are JRR Tolkien, CS Lewis, Jane Austen, William Shakespeare, and Edmund Spenser. The most obscure author I'm really abnormal about is Spenser, whose Faerie Queene is a magnificent epic of knights, monsters, virtues, vices, and the coolest ladies you will ever meet (Britomart, my love!!!). My favourite author of nonfiction is William Dalrymple who writes about travel and history mostly in Asia and is always worthwhile. 31. I'm having a lot of trouble with this one, so I'm going to flail out wildly and say that the album "Arcadia" by Eurielle is, from memory, a really close vibe match with Elizabeth von Armin's The Enchanted April, which is totally a book you should all read - peaceful, sunshiny, nostalgic.
39. Right now my favourite book-to-screen adaptation is Dune - Villeneuve's two movies are a brilliant adaptation job that capture what makes the book great and then improve on it in some key ways. Other noteworthy adaptations include The Princess Bride for a note-perfect adaptation of an already enormously fun book and Crazy Rich Asians which is SO much better than the book it's hard to believe.
42. Ooh! There are two books I absolutely adore, but the endings really disappointed me. Anthony Trollope's Can You Forgive Her? is one of my favourites of his, but I will always be disappointed that Alice ends up with John Grey - he starts out by disrespecting and gaslighting her, and while they eventually patch things up at the end, I never felt that he had really learned his lesson or would treat Alice any better in the future, and given that the book is over 300,000 words long I was super invested in Alice getting a good ending and I will never not be disappointed that she didn't. On the other hand, there's The Prisoner of Zenda in which the hero and heroine heroically relinquish their love for honour and this is why I can never write a good old-fashioned swashbuckler, even though I adore reading them, because deep down I don't believe that one should act like a turnip for the sake of honour, and you can't have a swashbuckler without that. 58. The most emotionally wrecked I've ever been by a book is Jennie by Paul Gallico. I was a BLUBBERING MESS but also mad about it to this day because I don't think he had the right to do that to anyone.

The Ultimate Oneshot Book
orphan_account
Summary:
In which I will write oneshots, headcanons, scenarios and many more from the fandoms I love and adore :3
(That rhymes lol)
I accept requests for headcanons, oneshots, scenarios, AU's and many others!
~Requests are currently closed!~
Chapter 1: ~Rules For Requesting~
Chapter Text
Holy crud It took me forever to put the relationships and characters down ;-;
Alrighty, this is the...3rd oneshot book I've made.
But i never had a oneshot book so big though.
(THAT DIRTY JOKE WAS NOT INTENDED)
Okay, I'll explain a few rules here for requesting.
1. Do not request smut or sex between blood-related characters, PLEASE. NO. INCEST.
2. Be specific when requesting, don't just type character x reader, give me more detail on what you want me to write, this rule applies to oneshots, headcanons, scenarios and AU's.
3. This should be expected, but I'm putting this down here anyway. I do not write sex scenes with minors In them. Nor do I write minors with a character who is 18+, smut or not.
4. I can also write Polyandry / Polygyny, LGBT+ etc.
5. If you request sexual trauma or rape, I will NOT write It explicitly. Same with gore.
6. I also write character x character and oc x character, If you want me to write a character with your oc you'll have to give me information about their looks, backstory, personality, etc.
7. The maximum of characters I write for headcanons are five, don't request more than that, please.
8. I don't have a grasp on writing foursomes, sorry peeps.
9. I take quite awhile to write AU's so bear with me lol
10. Enjoy the reading :)

*Clack*
*Clack*
*Clack*
Shoes hit against the floor as the owner of them walked through the hallway, eventually stopped walking and went up to one of the rooms, opening the door upon hearing laughter.
"Auntie?"
A woman sitting In a chair next to a hospital bed walked up to the girl and hugged her.
"Crystal! Great timing, dear." The woman exclaimed, pulling away from the raven haired girl, pointing over to the hospital bed, "This Is Rei, she's one of the patients here, can you keep her company for a little bit while I take care of something else."
Crystal nodded, her lips forming Into a smile, "Sure." She said, to which her aunt gave her a thumbs up and left the room.
The white haired woman smiled softly, patting the chair Crystal's aunt was sitting In earlier, "Would you like to sit with me, dear?"
"A- Ah! Sure!" The girl hesitantly walked over and sat In the chair by the hospital bed.
She's pretty...
"Do you come to the hospital often?"
Crystal jumped slightly, "Ah...I do sometimes so I can visit my aunt..."
"Well, when you come by..Can you visit me? I would appreciate the company."
Crystal looked up, smiling once more, "Of course!"
~*~
Crystal's feet moved back and forth as she wasn't really paying attention In class and looking at the heterochromiac boy who's seat was In front of hers, he turned his head to meet her eyes, aware of her staring and raising a brow. Crystal quickly turned her head, her face was flushed red as she covered It.
He's so quiet...
~*~
Steps were heard going down the hallway,
"Don't talk to her, It'll make everything worse than what It Is."
Screw that.
Shouto opened the door, about to say something but widened his eyes when he saw a familiar face.
Crystal turned her head to the door upon hearing It open and her eyes widened also.
After a while of Shouto talking with his mother, reuniting with her and Rei explaining the situation of Crystal visiting her both of the teenagers eventually went together to go visit Rei who would often wink and say something along the lines of, 'You two have been getting close lately' or 'I'm so glad you both are friends'.
And that one day came.
Crystal handed the flowers In the vase to Rei, "Here you go, I hope you like them!"
Rei looked at the flowers and smiled, "Thank you, sweetie. How did you know I like these?"
"It was actually Shouto who told me..." Crystal rubbed her neck, which was as flushed as her face.
"Hm, that's sweet of him...Shame that he doesn't have a girlfriend yet." Rei sent Crystal a wink and the raven haired girl stumbled, her dark brown eyes widening slightly.
"H...How...Did you..."
"Mothers just know, get 'em tiger!" Rei winked again and Crystal came out of the hospital room, more redder than usual.
Shouto raised a brow, "Are you alright?"
"I- I'm fine! I'll just head back home now!"
"I can walk you back If you want?"
"S...Sure!" She squeaked, earning another eyebrow raise from Shouto, but the male said nothing as they headed out the hospital.
Crystal looked up at the sky, eyes widening once more.
"What's wrong?"
"I...I don't have an umbrella..." She admitted, looking at the dark sky as It rained cats and dogs.
"There's a extra one at my place, we can go there and I can get It for you?"
Crystal nodded, "Okay."
The two teenagers headed to the house, turning around and noticing Crystal was soaked from the rain, her uniform somewhat see-through and Shouto quickly turned his head, his face flushing slightly.
"I...I should get you some new clothes, you'll get a cold..."
Crystal looked down, noticing her clothing being wet she flustered, nodding, Shouto went to his room, grabbing a new shirt, It was a little big but he hoped that It would fit her, he came out. Passing the shirt to Crystal. "You can change In the bathroom." He said, the raven haired girl nodded, heading to the bathroom as Shouto searched for that extra umbrella, after finding It he headed to the bathroom, completely forgetting to knock and he opened the door.
"Hey, I found the umbrella and I'll place It nea-" He froze, pausing with his words as his face flushed slightly and Crystal jumped, putting her hands over her chest to hide the bra that she was wearing.
"Sh- Shouto?!" She screeched, stumbling a little as she tried to regain her balance from surprise, she was expecting the male to leave but Instead he walked Into the bathroom, standing In front of her.
"I like you."
Huh...?!
The girl wasn't sure If she should laugh or say that she liked him as well, he just said It with such a straight face which turned Into a pinkish hue after she stayed silent for so long.
Is this even a good time to say that...?
Crystal shook the thoughts out of her head, holding the shirt that he gave her earlier over her chest, she blushed and turned her head away. "I like you as well...But..."
"Hm?"
"Shouldn't we talk about this when I'm...Decent...?"
As If a delayed reaction Shouto's face turned as red as the left side of him, to which Crystal let out a soft chuckle.
"I..I'm sorry."
"It's fine Shouto." She smiled softly as the male headed out of the bathroom.
~*~
His lips were dry, maybe a little chapped as well.
The kiss was sloppy but It seemed like neither had cared,
Shouto pulled back and Crystal's eyes widened, "Uh...Shouto?"
"Yes?"
"Your left shoulder Is on fire..."
"Damn It."
Fin~!
Notes:
Hoped you enjoyed It!

Chapter 4: Levi, Eren, Bakugou (Headcanon)
Notes:
These headcanons were requested by, moriartart!
Can I request a hadcannon with Levi, Eren, and Bakugo having a tatted goth-esque S/O and if they initially liked it / how they feel about it after getting together?
<3
(See the end of the chapter for more notes.)
Chapter Text
Levi:
At first he's just...'What the fuck is this shit'.
Eventually he'll get used to It since It's something that you enjoy.
But just because he's used to It doesn't mean he'll understand.
Eren:
He'll be extremely curious.
He'd genuinely be Interested and ask you questions.
Like, 'Why do you enjoy that so much?'
Way more understanding of It and might actually like It, unlike Levi.
Bakugou:
Doesn't give a shit at first.
Then later on he will eventually get Interested.
He'll listen to you talk about the subject...Sometimes.
Keeps getting emo and goth mixed up and you have to keep correcting him.
Notes:
Hope you enjoyed the headcanons!
<3
P.S: Slight language cause Levi and Bakugou ;-;
Chapter 5: Lance McClain x Reader (AU)
Notes:
This AU was requested by, Ruby Star!

"Damn It, you're going to get us In trouble, AGAIN." Keith mumbled to Lance as he followed behind him, grumbling. "You know, Allura and Shiro won't be happy If we go to the surface."
Lance turned around, sending Keith a wink. "Relax, we won't be gone long. I just want to see how everything looks on the surface."
Keith let out a sigh, "The stupid things I do with you Is starting to make me question my mental state. Fine, lead th way."
Lance grabbed Keith In a hug grinning, "See?! Was that so hard?"
"Let's just go before I change my mind, fishbreath."
"Why you- You know what, whatever." Lance hmphed, slapping his blue fins across Keith's face as he swam off.
"Ow! Get back here!"
"Catch me first!"

Was sind Aerosolmedikamente?

Books read in March
An unexpected month all round.
I didn’t read everything I planned to read because life was busy and the news was hugely distracting. I ended up looking for other things to read -- books that sounded comforting.
Favourite cover: No strong feelings about any of these covers.
Reread: Some of The Austen Playbook by Lucy Parker.
Still reading: The Long Dark Tea-Time of the Soul by Douglas Adams.
Next up: The Art of Theft by Sherry Thomas.
(Longer reviews and ratings are on LibraryThing and Dreamwidth.)
*
Moontangled by Stephanie Burgis: A romantic novella about a couple of minor characters from Snowspelled and Thornbound. It’s a slighter story than I was expecting… but I’m not sure whether dragging out the misunderstanding between Juliana and Caroline into a longer story would have given it more depth or just been annoying. And as this story stands, it fits thematically right in with the rest. I hope Burgis returns to this world someday.
A Heart So Fierce and Broken by Brigid Kemmerer: This follows on from one of my favourite books from last year, A Curse So Dark and Lonely, with different POV characters: Grey, a former guardsman to Prince Rhen, and Lia Mara, who has been overlooked as her mother’s heir in favour of her younger sister. I very much enjoyed spending time in their company. The dilemmas they faced -- about loyalty and leadership and being at odds with loved ones -- were engaging and thoughtfully-explored; tense without being stressful. My enthusiasm is somewhat muted because the ending offered less resolution than I was anticipating, but I’d prefer that Kemmerer took another book to deal with things properly instead of rushing. I trust her to have another story worth telling.
Elizabeth and her German Garden (1898) by Elizabeth von Armin (narrated by Nadia May): I had heard of this long before I read The Enchanted April last year, and I don't know why I hadn't seriously considered reading it... maybe the description didn't grab me or I had confused it with something else? It is utterly, unexpectedly, delightful! There's very little plot but I loved the descriptions of Elizabeth's garden, of her experiences gardening, of her small daughters and her observations about being introverted. I was less entertained by details about an irritating guest but that's a minor quibble.
The Two Monarchies Sequence by W.R. Gingell:
Spindle: After four hundred years, a princess is awoken with a kiss -- except that she wasn’t the princess and the curse isn’t fully broken. This reminded me of Diana Wynne Jones in the best possible way. Like Jones, Gingell doesn’t explain everything and expects her readers to keep up. It’s a style which particularly suits Poly’s story -- scrambling to retrieve her memories, catch up on major historical events and work out why she was targeted in the first place. The wizard who woke her isn’t inclined to stop and explain everything! It also fits with Poly’s experiences of magic. I loved this.
Blackfoot: Annabel, her cat Blackfoot and her best friend Peter are pursued by a sinister figure and hide in the ruins of a castle. I had an idea of who Blackfoot was, and Peter too, and knew what Mordion was capable of, but Annabel doesn’t and this is very much her story, as she discovers more about herself. Once again, Gingell’s style of not explaining everything works really well because Annabel is caught up in something confusing and magical and weird. Less compelling than Spindle but I loved Annabel and the way this captures her reactions to things.
Staff & Crown: Three years after Blackfoot, Annabel is sent to finishing school, where she and her new friend Isabella get up unexpected -- and sometimes unexpectedly dangerous -- adventures. Annabel and Isabella are an utterly delightful combination. I enjoyed their friendship, and the way Annabel renegotiates her relationship with Melchior. The latter relationship is important and, given their history, not exactly straightforward. I thought Gingell handled that deftly. (My only quibble is that Annabel’s adventures with Isabella are so lively, so much the focus, that other parts of Annabel’s school experience began to feel a bit too vague and misty by comparison.)
The Eagle of the Ninth by Rosemary Sutcliff (narrated by Charlie Simpson): As I suspected, listening to the (unfortunately, abridged) audiobook pulled me right into this story. I found it vivid, captivating and intriguing... which was not my experience of trying to read the book myself. I don't know how abridged it was but if the story was leaving out important bits, it wasn't obvious. (Although I did wonder whether I would have understood some of the character's choices better had more of the story was included.) The abridgement felt smoothly done and the audiobook was well narrated, with nice use of music.
Uptown by Ruby Lang: A trilogy of short romances set in New York.
House Rules: Seventeen years after their divorce, Lana and Simon run into each other at an apartment inspection. With some reluctance, they become roommates in order to rent a decent place. I liked the bits about their careers (she's a noodle maker in a restaurant, he's a music teacher), their ease with each other, and the sense of place. Things resolved very quickly in the end, and while I wanted more, given their history, that felt believable. This was a comfortable distraction in a week when I really needed it.
Playing House: When Oliver runs into Fay, an acquaintance and fellow urban planner, on a tour of showcase homes, she needs him to pretend to be her boyfriend. Just for a few minutes. I like how Oliver and Fay share a passion for architecture and enjoy each other's company -- I think Lang has a knack for portraying a couple who are very comfortable around each other but still feel excitement and uncertainty about their developing relationship. This is a slight story but I enjoyed reading it. Sometimes that's enough.
Open House: As a romance, this was my least favourite, probably because I'm much more interested in couples who know each other than in rivals: Magda is a broker responsible for selling a vacant block while Tyson is an advocate for the illegal community garden currently on the block. But even though it doesn't involve one of my favourite romance tropes, I found Magda's experiences in selling real estate and everything about the community garden interesting. The only thing I felt was really needed was more about the aftermath of Magda standing up to her (well-meaning) family.
Thief of Time by Terry Pratchett (narrated by Stephen Briggs): A cleverly constructed story. My favourite parts, the parts which struck me as particularly insightful or where the humour appealed to me the most, were Susan as a schoolteacher and the conversations between Lu-Tze and Lobsang. I don't care for the Auditors but suddenly in the middle I started hoping that their part of the story would play out in a different way -- and then I was disappointed when it did not.

“She belongs to the winter that is past, to the darkness that is over, and has no part or lot in the life I shall lead for the next six months. Oh, I could dance and sing for joy that the spring is here! What a resurrection of beauty there is in my garden, and of brightest hope in my heart.” -Elizabeth von Arnim- Painting by: Harold Gaze

Inscribed on flyleaf by Captain George Fried of the S. S. President Roosevelt. ABOUT GEORGE FRIED George Fried, (August 10, 1877 – July 25, 1949) a sea Captain with service in both the US Navy and Merchant Marine, is best remembered for his valiant rescue of the crews of the British steamship Antinoe in 1926 while captaining the luxury liner SS President Roosevelt and three years later the Italian freighter Florida while in command of the luxury liner USS America. Both of the ships he captained during the rescues were owned by the large United States Lines. Fried became familiar to thousands of Americans when his syndicated column "My Thirty Years at Sea", which chronicled his life and ocean adventures, was featured in major newspapers beginning in 1929. In 1922, Fried was promoted to the captaincy of the luxury liner SS President Roosevelt. On January 20, 1926, with Fried as captain, Roosevelt received an SOS from the British steam cargo ship Antinoe. After several attempts amidst violent snowstorms and rough seas, Roosevelt succeeded in rescuing her crew of twenty-five on midnight of the following day. The rescue was made memorable by the Roosevelt's persistence in remaining with the sinking Antinoe despite rough seas, snow, and bitter cold. After completing the rescue of her crew, Roosevelt left the listing, damaged Antinoe abandoned with no electrical power. On her return to Hoboken Pier, Roosevelt was greeted by local dignitaries, including New Jersey Governor Harry Moore, who gave an address. Roosevelt's officers and crew were entertained by a band, received a twenty-one-gun salute, and were welcomed to New York by Mayor Jimmy Walker, after a stay at the Roosevelt Hotel and a ticker-tape parade. For his heroic efforts, Fried was awarded the Navy Cross and both he and members of the Roosevelt's crew were decorated by the British government.

oooh do top 5 books you've read recently-ish!
Ooh yes, this is favorites of the last 12 calendar months in no particular order:
Book of Common Prayer, Joan Dion - queen Joan at it again, I love her. This wound me up into such a tight circle I felt like I couldn't breathe and it gives you no room to flinch. It makes you look at a life and woman and a place and just sit with it -- you feel complicit in Charlotte's end and you have to live with that. I loved this, I already want to reread it but I'm waiting a few years because I can already tell it's one of those worth rereading at different states in life.
The Poppy War, R. F. Kuang - I still can't really talk about this one. I devoured it, read it like I was a little kid again, couldn't do anything but read it or think about reading it. Very, very disturbing in places though. Adult fantasy in a good way, where the adult bits force us to confront our beliefs and viewpoints. Can't necessarily say I liked it but it's certainly already stuck in me.
Rebecca, Daphne du Maurier - Such a me book, such fun and sadness and insights about women and again, a labyrinth that twists you in (maybe in a pandemic where we couldn't leave home I got very into labyrinths...). Anyway, a classic for a reason.
The Enchanted April, Elizabeth Von Armin - lush joy, truly a spring breeze of a book. Not a forever book for me but exactly what and when I needed it. Best for: slinking away to the Med when your actual surroundings are grim and oppressive.
Super-forecasting, Philip Tetlock - One of those rare pop-sci books that is engaging, teaches you something, and isn't overly simplistic. Such a great non-fiction read, provides a great framework for being a better predictor and makes you think about the world differently; exactly what I'm looking for in a non-fiction jaunt.
+ top 5 anything!
