Theseus series #11 (Murdered in Exile)
Regretting the loss of his friend Pirithous, Theseus makes his way back to Athens to find the city in rebellion. Helens brothers, Castor and Pollux, have rescued their sister and Athens is on the brink of war with the Spartans. A new Athenian king, Menestheus, has turned the citizens against Theseus, forcing him to send his children away and flee to the island of Scyros under the protection of King Lycomedes. But King lycomedes betrays Theseus, leading him up to a view point on a high cliff, and pushing him off to his death. Thus, Theseus life ends in murder and exile.
A few hundred years later, the Greeks fight the Persians in the battle of Marathon (490 B.C.) During this battle many warriors claim to see the ghost of Theseus leading a charge into battle. General Cimon receives a prophecy from the Oracle at Delphi, instructing him to retrieve Theseus body from Scyros. Cimon overtakes the island, and seeing an eagle digging, locates the giant bones of Theseus. Cimon relocates them back to Athens and seals them within a grand Tomb. In addition, in his honor, the temple known as the Theseion is built, as well as the creation of the festival Theseia. The Theseion temple was established as hero-cult sanctuary for the poor and oppressed. The remains of a Doric temple North West of the Agora was thought to be the Theseion, but many modern scholars believe this to be the Temple of Hephaestus.
The actual tomb of Theseus was rumored to be near the Lyceum (gymnasium), and the design of the tomb is rumored to look like the Tomb of Mausolus in Halicarnassus (ancient greek city in western Turkey) There is much debate as to whether Theseus was a real, historical king, as his grave or body has never been found.
The Theseia Festival consisted of athletic competitions for Athenian males to compete and show their military skills (torch races, equestrian races) as well as processions and sacrifices. Plutarch tells us the festival took place on the 8th day of the month, as it was the day Theseus returned from Crete with the resecued tributes, and in honor of his father Poseidon.

Genghis Khan (Rider) Servant Concept
Class:Rider
Parameters Strength B Endurance A Agility C+ Magical Power C Luck A
Born Temujin, the man who would come be known as one of the greatest conquerors in all of history. He is perceived many as a great villian and butcher but to others a national hero and great leader. Among servants Genghis Khan stands shoulder to shoulder with some of the most powerful and famous heroic spirits such as Iskandar, Cu Chulainn, and Artoria Pendragon. He qualifies for many classes such as Archer, Lancer and Saber but Rider is by far his best class. In terms of fame, notoriety, and accomplishments he is without a doubt a top tier servant. Personality wise he is proud, charismatic, and larger than life. He considers himself chosen by heaven and all above to unite all nations under one banner. He is eager to experience new things and finds value in others who have skills, beliefs, customs and so on that are not his own. A man who sees only merit and character, looking beyond ones station, and seeing them for their core self. 'A wise beggar with a good heart is worth more than a king placed upon his seat through lineage alone'. Whoever is Genghis Khan's master will find a stalwart and strong servant but he will not follow there orders and may even kill them outright if he does not find them of respectable character or beliefs. He is prone to acting on his own but may take his masters council should they earn his respect.
Skills
Riding A-Genghis Khan is an expert in all vehicles and mounts, especially horses. He even has the potential to ride some phantasmal species and divine beasts.
Magic Resistance D-Can cancel out low level or single incantation spells. As well as protect from low level mental effects
Divinity C-Among the mongol people, Genghis Khan has been deified and associated with an equestrian war god known as Sülde Tngri. This deification represents Genghis Khan's martial character and the more mythical side of himself rather than the historical.
Khan Of Khans A+-A skill that represents Genghis's status as the greatest to hold the title of Khan. It is a composite skill that grants him aa high level Charisma , Tactics , and Golden Rule
Mongolian Martial Arts B-A skill that represents his expertise in the traditional martial arts and skills of his people. Such as horse archery, falconry, and Bokh also known as Mongolian wrestling, and so on. HIs skill in wrestling in particular makes him a dangerous opponent even whent totally unarmed.
Blessing Of Tengri A-It was said in the text 'Secret History Of The Mongols' that a spirit known as Zarin Tengri sent a vision from the great sky god Tengri to the Khorchin mongols, of a cow mooing toward the moon and the words 'Heaven And Earth have agreed to make Tenmujin lord of the nation'. This prophetic blessing is what allowed Genghis Khan to unite his people. It is a skill that acts similar to high ranked Protection Of The Faith and can occasionally grant prophetic dreams similar to the Revelation skill.
Noble Phantasms
Khans Grand Conquest: All Under Heaven is Mine A+ -A crystallization of Genghis Khan's ability to conquer and create the largest contiguous empire in all of history. The noble phantasm allows Genghis Khan to claim areas as his territory. The condition being that he must either win over a majority of the population in that designated area or defeat a figure of authority within that chosen area. Such as using his raw charisma to draw an entire bar to him and want to follow him, allowing him to claim the bar and the nearby area or making the mayor of a town submit to him thus claiming the town itself. Once Genghis Khan has claimed a territory as his own he has a certain level of Authority within that territory, raising his parameters slightly and allowing him to better engage any enemy that enters his territory. This skill also allows him to temporarily use the skills and even mana of others within his territory, representing the khan's propensity to incorporate other cultures, and beliefs into his kingdom rather than quashing them.
Twin White Horses: Divine Steeds Of The Khan A-The twin horses of Genghis Khan who were immortalized in a folktale. They are brothers, and are the Khan's constant companions. The older horse is white with a golden mane while the the younger is the inverse. They are similarly deified along with Genghis Khan and as such are divine beasts, representing the horse as a symbol of mongol culture. The horse and its rider are one, and it is said that the spirit or the soul is called a 'wind horse'. This association with the spirit allows the horses to ride past the veil and into the afterlife temporarily before appearing back in physical space. Though this power is extremely mana intensive. This association with the spirit world also grants them advantages against ghosts and other spiritual beings but not servants. Genghis Khan usually rides one or the other horse but they can also be summoned at the same time to pull Genghis Khan's chariot.
Khan's Tumen: Army Of The Conqueror B+-Genghis Khan had a very specific ordering of troops. He believed that a massive singular army was ineffective. And that multiple smaller armies was more efficient. This noble phantasm is a crystallization of that philosophy and allows Gengis Khan to summon a entourage of his elite Calvary up to 1000 strong. Each one of them is a minor heroic spirit in there own right and have average parameters of C. Though it is not an army as grand as Iskandar's or similar noble phantasms it has quality over quantity. However, summoning such a massive force of minor heroic spirits requires immense amounts of mana. So it is often employed sparingly.

The House of Windsor effect
Horse & Hound | Published 10 June 2021
FROM early childhood our Queen was a horse-lover, but no one could have foreseen the immense contribution she would make to all our riding sports.
Everyone who shares The Queen’s passion for horses is in her debt, none more so than my generation, who were brought up during the deprivations of World War II. It was by no means guaranteed that equestrianism in Britain would blossom in the early post-war years of economic austerity. The lead given by the royal family was a crucial factor in the huge growth of riding as a widely popular sport.
We saw Princess Elizabeth, a stylish figure, as a consummate horsewoman in public, when she appeared riding side-saddle in a dark blue habit, at the 1947 Trooping the Colour ceremony, the first since the war. It was an annual duty she has fulfilled ever since, arriving by horse-drawn carriage from 1987. There was always an element of risk in this parade, emphasised in 1981 when a youth fired blank shots near The Queen, who rode on coolly on her horse Burmese, a black mare who carried her for 17 consecutive years on ceremonial parades.
Her marriage in 1947 to the Duke of Edinburgh brought to the nation a level of glamour and excitement which defeated the greyness of that time. Princess Elizabeth received a filly, Astrakhan, as a wedding present from the Aga Khan, and soon registered her own colours: scarlet, purple hooped sleeves, black cap.
Since her teens, the heir to the throne shared the close interest of her father, King George VI, in thoroughbred breeding and racing, but the wider horse world would also benefit from the future Queen’s patronage. Nearly every major equestrian activity would involve at least one member of The Queen’s close family as breeder, owner, or competitor.
DURING conversations over lunch at Sandown Park before the Horse & Hound Grand Military Gold Cup, of which she was patron, Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother recalled to me something of the late King George’s passion for riding and hunting: “They were such happy, carefree days,” she said with a glowing smile.
Our Queen inherited her love of horses and country life from both her parents. As well as a recreation, equestrianism is an important royal tradition, going back to the monarchy’s reliance on horsepower in ceremony and war.
The future King George VI won a pre-war reputation as the most polished horseman of the royal brothers, on the polo ground and in the hunting field. As Duke of York he took a hunting box with his family at Naseby in the Pytchley country for several seasons in the 1930s. In 1931 Princess Elizabeth, aged five, rode a pony to see the Pytchley’s huntsman, Frank Freeman, hunting hounds for the last time. As Freeman’s fox went away from covert the Princess was watching on her pony nearby, held by a groom standing next to the Queen Mother. The scene was captured in a painting by the artist Lionel Edwards.
Princess Elizabeth started riding lessons that year with Henry Owen, groom at White Lodge, Richmond Park, and in 1938 she received more training as a rider from Horace Smith who had a yard at Holyport, Berkshire. His daughter Sybil later gave Prince Charles and Princess Anne their first riding lessons.
Princess Anne remembered later: We were both on a leading rein, and we were towed around a cinder ring, never faster than a trot… I thought it was a most grisly waste of time.”
During the height of the war, in 1943, Princess Elizabeth and her sister Princess Margaret appeared at a local show in aid of Windsor Wings for Victory Week. It was so relaxed that a runaway lurcher stole a chicken from the caterer’s tent, and sat chewing it under the King’s chair.
Princess Elizabeth proved she could drive as well as ride. With her sister as passenger, she competed in the single private driving turnout class with a Norwegian pony called Hans. The future Queen won the cup, and Princess Margaret drove a Fell pony, Windsor Gypsy, to win a trophy in the utility driving class.
The wartime fixture was the forerunner of the magnificent annual Royal Windsor Horse Show, and an example of the thread of continuity in The Queen’s interest in horses.
Racing provided an excellent opportunity to learn horsemanship through watching her father’s horses in training. Although Flat racing was to be The Queen’s main interest, her first victory was in a steeplechase at a Fontwell Park National Hunt meeting where her new colours were carried to victory by Monaveen, jointly owned with the Queen Mother, and trained by Peter Cazalet.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The Queen supported her mother’s involvement in National Hunt, sharing her triumphs and disappointments, the worst being her runner Devon Loch’s collapse when in the lead of the 1956 Grand National.
I have never seen The Queen happier on a racecourse than when she presented the 1986 Horse & Hound Grand Military Gold Cup to the Queen Mother after the third victory of her horse Special Cargo, well ridden by Gerald Oxley, despite a broken stirrup.
It is part of racing legend that on the morning of her coronation in 1953 The Queen was asked beforehand by a lady-in-waiting if all was well, and replied: “Oh yes, the Captain has rung to say Aureole is really well.”
Four days later, her colt Aureole, ridden by Harry Carr and trained by Captain Sir Cecil Boyd Rochfort, was beaten into second place in the Derby by Pinza. Since then The Queen’s horses have won the other Classics, but a Derby victory is still wanting.
With Lord Porchester as her general racing manager, and Sir Michael Oswald in charge of the bloodstock breeding side, The Queen’s involvement in thoroughbred breeding was intensified. She has a profound knowledge of thoroughbred pedigrees, and her expertise extends far more widely: she has successfully bred polo ponies for Prince Charles, eventers for Princess Anne, carriage horses for Prince Philip, plus Highland, Fell and Haflinger ponies, Arab horses…even a project to produce drum horses for the Household Cavalry.
THE Queen was a keen horsey mother, too. She is in the unique position of being the mother of a European eventing champion in Princess Anne, and grandmother to a European and world eventing champion in Zara Tindall.
Princess Anne’s heavy fall with her horse Goodwill in the 1976 Montreal Olympics three-day event was no laughing matter. The Queen and Prince Philip were present, and I remember them racing round to see if she was all right. The Princess was pretty much unconscious, but remounted and completed the course for the sake of the British team. It was a brave effort because she said afterwards she could remember nothing more of the ride.
We are used to seeing The Queen as a nonagenarian riding sedate horses on exercise in Windsor Great Park, but I recall her as a young woman galloping with great zest on Ascot racecourse. She made these excursions with relatives and friends in her Windsor Castle house party on the mornings before racing. As a press correspondent I reported a hazardous occasion when the royal party galloped under the taut wires of the old-style starting “tapes”. The Queen only just ducked her head in time to avoid what could have been a dreadful fall.
As an experienced, natural horsewoman, The Queen is well aware of the risks, but she has persisted in riding hatless on her private hacks. It was not the custom to wear protective headgear, nor was it readily available, during The Queen’s early life, and her unwillingness to abandon this practice has been respected as a royal prerogative in a long life in which private riding has been such a valuable respite from her demanding public schedule.
When the Prince took up steeplechasing, I recall The Queen admitting to feeling “very nervous” before the 1981 Horse & Hound Grand Military Gold Cup at Sandown Park. Prince Charles was riding his new horse Good Prospect in the race, falling at the 18th fence.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The Queen said very little, but there was a palpable sense of relief in the royal box when Charles regained his feet. The Prince’s determination was demonstrated when he rode the same horse the following week in the Kim Muir race at Cheltenham, and survived another fall. He had several wins in lesser chases, and was a bold rider in team chasing.
WHEN The Queen and Prince Philip visited our company’s range of magazines in 1978, then produced at King’s Reach Tower in Stamford Street, next to the Thames, Horse & Hound’s editorial office was the first port of call. In those days, the magazine was published on Fridays, and a royal carriage would come to the offices on Thursday to collect three copies for Buckingham Palace. Unfortunately the antis picked up on this, and Special Branch discovered that they were planning to kidnap the horse and carriage, so we quietly switched to couriering the copies by car.
Around that time, I was mortified by what I call “Horse & Hound’s greatest mistake”. I was invited to tea at Windsor Great Park for a polo cup we sponsored, and she asked me what had happened that week in H&H.
She was referring to a picture we had printed of her riding in a parade, but someone in the production team had inadvertently reversed the picture so her legs were on the wrong side of the horse. I was furious despite not receiving a single letter of complaint, but of course The Queen had noticed. I sent her the original, correct, proof in a frame and she was very good about it.
Tumblr media
The Queen’s concern for horse welfare has been another major element in her equestrian life. As patron of the British Horse Society The Queen takes considerable interest in its welfare activities.
Welfare was an element in her decision to invite the innovative American trainer Monty Roberts to display his method of introducing unbroken horses to being saddled and ridden in one session. I was among guests invited to Windsor Castle for this demonstration, where The Queen told me she thought his methods were “marvellous”.
“I have seen an awful lot of ropes and straps being used in the old methods of breaking in a horse,” she said – and some home-bred royal horses were later “entered” to riding by Monty.
Apart from a great deal of fun, what else has horsemanship conferred upon the royals? Prince Philip pointed out the character-forming benefits of riding, as originally expressed by the Elizabethan dramatist Ben Jonson: “Princes learn no art truly, but the art of horsemanship. The reason is, the brave beast is no flatterer. He will throw a prince as soon as his groom.”
The “great leveller” was Prince Philip’s perceptive description of the horse. He wrote in an article for Horse & Hound’s 27 May 1977 issue, celebrating the Silver Jubilee: “Having a family which seems to be equally willing to be humiliated by the horse, I have to live with the expectation that they too will suffer injury and indignity.
“The only advantage of the personal experience of this sort of thing is that I am not surprised when it happens to them, and I am full of sympathy and useful advice for treatment and recovery.”
Prince Philip continued to drive a carriage well into his late nineties. Our Queen is still riding as a recreation – long may she continue to do so.

We start off with the two Alicorn sisters. Queen Piercing Gale (Tempest as Celestia) and Princess Sunray (Sunset Shimmer as Luna). The story goes mostly the same, only this time the eldest sister was in charge of raising the moon and the younger brought out the sun at dawn. Though their true talents and domains lied in war and knowledge, respectively. Piercing Gale was a sensitive but diligent and protective soul. She found great pleasure not only in an equally matched battle but being able to protect her subjects with her vast knowledge of strategy. Ponies celebrated her for the fact that they could constantly feel safe, awake or asleep, as she had the ability to help ponies fight their own battles in the dream world. Despite the advancements she helped to provide to Equestrian society the younger sister was not given a fraction of the adoration and attention. Ponies worked and played throughout her day but many found it a waste to spend any of their time studying at all, they treated evert new advancement like it was always a part of life. Princess Sunray began to grow indignant. Not only were her gifts taken for granted but some ponies even stayed up at night and slept through her day! She too appreciated knowledge, first and foremost, for the power and growth it would provide but with a mind clouded by ambition she felt that it was different. Her own magic ate away at the good inside her by the day until she was transformed into a demonic visage of her former self, Consuming Blaze. She longed to make Equestria a shining utopia of scholarly ponies. Even if she had to manipulate and crush dissenters to do it. With her hoof forced in one last grand battle, Piercing Gale was forced to turn the elements they shared on her sister. Gale would have to live with a reminder in the form of her sisters image emblazoned on the sun for 1000 years.
When that time finally came six special ponies came together and well, you know how the story goes. An apologetic princess Sunray was finally given a second chance at life and a second chance at a relationship with her sister. She's still stuck in some of her old ways like assuming she's the best for every task but she truly longs to help and improve her subjects as much as her sister.

What If 1.890: Luna promoted a new brand of cheese?
Suggested by Rhonie8k!
"HUZZAH!" Luna burst through the wall of Canterlot Castle's grand dining hall. "I HAVE ACQUIRED A TASTE FOR THE LATEST IN CHEESEMAKING."
"Luna, please." Celestia facehoofed, hiding her face from the merchant she had been writing a contract with. "My apologies. My sister is an imbecile."
The merchant rubbed his chin. "The latest in cheesemaking, you say? From where have you sourced this cheese?"
Celestia groaned.
"IT COMES FROM THINE MOTHER!" Luna boomed. "THINE MOTHER IS A CHEESERY THAT HAS BEEN ESTABLISHED AMONG THE FOOTHILLS OF MOUNT CANTERHORN. THEY MAKE EXCELLENT CHEESES AND I HAVE BEEN BLESSED WITH THE KNOWLEDGE OF THEIR EXISTENCE."
The merchant looked between Princess Luna and the half-completed trade agreement laying on the table. He then turned his gaze to Celestia, who was muttering something under her breath.
"I'm afraid I must pull out of this contract for Royal Equestrian-brand teacakes, Princess. Your sister has a far more enticing offer--Thine Mother's cheeses! I can already smell them from where I sit, and they seem simply delectable!"
"BEHOLD, THINE MOTHER CHEESERY!" Luna gestured at the cottage and its attached shop nestled beneath the shade of a towering pine. "THINE MOTHER IS SO OLD, IT IS SAID THAT THINE MOTHER EXISTED BEFORE THE INVENTION OF CHEESE."
"Excellent, excellent!" the merchant clapped his hooves. "May I request an immediate meeting with the owner of this establishment?"
"I SHALL GRANT YOU SUCH A MEETING WITH THE BIG CHEESE."
"Big... chee--"
"SALUTATIONS. WE HAVE COME TO REQUEST AN AUDIENCE WITH THE BIG CHEESE." Princess Luna kicked down the door. She gently shut it behind her to the best of her abilities.
The aging mare looked up from her comically large vat of cheese. "Oh my!" she creaked, adjusting her glasses. She leaned over the vat, almost to the point of falling into its frothing contents. "You've come back!"
The merchant's eyes grew wide. "Mother? B-but I thought, when father passed, you... but the debt!"
"PAID IN FULL WITH CHEESE." Princess Luna beamed.
"And the cheesery!" the merchant gazed about the room. "How is it that I was unaware of its existence?"
The old mare's expression grew solemn for a moment. "Your great-grandmother was the great-great-great granddaughter of the inventor of cheese, son. She passed only a few years ago, and with your grandmother having vanished in the war, I was the inheritor of this establishment. Come, sit, sit!" her mood lightened a little as she beckoned. "Tea for you, Princess?"
"A BAG OF CHEETOS SHALL SUFFICE."
The old mare turned a knob beneath the vat and stepped away. "What about you, son?" she wiped her hooves on an old rag hanging nearby before retrieving a bag of Cheetos from the pantry. "Have you heard your cousin adopted a little colt? Said that the poor lad wouldn't stop staring after she gave 'em a visit. Lucky foal, that one. 'Tis a shame that there are so many orphaned little fillies and colts still awaiting for caring eyes to come."
"Uh."
She set the Cheeto bag on the table in front of Luna, and a platter of cheese and crackers in front of the merchant. "Don't have any of those cute lil' lunch packs in store right now, but I believe making food fresh always beats the store-bought sorts."
The merchant kept his gaze low. "But... why? You didn't even like cheese. You had a whole business of your own, too! And you gave it up... for cheese?"
"Aye. Figured my travelin' days were over after the war. Still don't like cheese, but it's more bearable if it's the sort I make myself."
"I... suppose that makes sense. I do have one more question to ask, however. Through all the places I have traveled, I have met a great number of cheesemakers. Yet, none of them have ever told me where they source their ingredients. If it doesn't inconvenience you, may you please shine a light on this mystery?"
Luna slammed her Cheeto dust-covered hoof on the table, crushing the now-empty bag. "WHO GOT MILKED FOR THIS CHEESE?"
"They really refuse to speak?" the old mare snorted. Her eyes darted between her son and Princess Luna. "Follow me."
"See, the secret is, none of us really know where the milk comes from." The old mare opened a hatch in the floor behind the vat and climbed down. "But every night, a mysterious carriage comes at the witching hour, its innards filled entirely with jugs of milk. They never ask for payment. They never say a word. You take three, no more, no less."
"How come?" the merchant finally reached the bottom behind her. Luna teleported down beside him.
"They hiss if you take more, and if you take less, they will leave a jug behind regardless of your wants. There is no tunnel into this basement, nor is there any tunnel out. I do not know how they traverse."
A low rumbling began to rock the ground beneath them.
"Another delivery? At this time?" the old mare craned her neck, peering into the darkness at the end of the corridor.
A blinding flash bathed them momentarily in light, dying away again as a carriage recklessly rumbled into view. It skid to a halt in front of Luna, slamming the door open on her muzzle. The old mare reached out, taking hold of a crate--three jugs, no more and no less.
"Princess!" the merchant rushed to Luna's side, helping her to her hooves. "Wait!" he shouted as the door slammed shut again. "I must ask you a question!"
"She needs some milk!" the old mare pointed a hoof at the unconscious princess.
The carriage creaked as if a tremendous weight had shifted within. Slowly, the door began to open again. It was entirely dark within, save for a pair of narrowed eyes.
"Get away!" the old mare shouted at her son. "One should never speak to the milk-eyes!"
Luna groaned, sitting up from the impact. She immediately scrunched her muzzle. "Celly?"
The narrowed eyes froze.
"Sister, you know how much I hate that perfume you use." Luna rubbed her face, stepping around the door this time and peering deep inside.
"Wh--" the merchant shot confused glances between his mother and Luna, who continued to berate the figure in the carriage for their scent. "Wait, it was Celestia the entire time, delivering milk not only to you, but to cheesemakers all across the world?"
Celestia poked her head out from the carriage. "Yes, and if you spread the word that I am The Milkmare, then I shall have you banished to the sun."
"But why, sister?" Luna sounded equally astonished. "Do you not have other duties to attend to?"
"I did have other duties, but you keep ruining them all with your interrupting about cheese!" Celestia shot a scathing glare at her sister. "This is how I keep Equestria's trade deals intact. To ensure that we get the deal no matter what, all milk production is controlled by me personally, and delivered on a cost-free, tax-free basis to incentivize cheesemaking. All so that you don't drive this country into the ground with your rampant nagging about silly things such as microtransactions and new cheeses."
She turned her attention back to the old mare and the merchant. "I apologize for the scene I have made. I will take my leave."
The door slammed shut, hitting Luna across the face a second time as The Milkmare sped off into the darkness again before disappearing in another flash.

Book Recommendations: Compelling Parallel Narratives
Horse by Geraldine Brooks
Kentucky, 1850. An enslaved groom named Jarret and a bay foal forge a bond of understanding that will carry the horse to record-setting victories across the South. When the nation erupts in civil war, an itinerant young artist who has made his name on paintings of the racehorse takes up arms for the Union. On a perilous night, he reunites with the stallion and his groom, very far from the glamor of any racetrack.
New York City, 1954. Martha Jackson, a gallery owner celebrated for taking risks on edgy contemporary painters, becomes obsessed with a nineteenth-century equestrian oil painting of mysterious provenance.
Washington, DC, 2019. Jess, a Smithsonian scientist from Australia, and Theo, a Nigerian-American art historian, find themselves unexpectedly connected through their shared interest in the horse--one studying the stallion's bones for clues to his power and endurance, the other uncovering the lost history of the unsung Black horsemen who were critical to his racing success.
Based on the remarkable true story of the record-breaking thoroughbred Lexington, Horse is a novel of art and science, love and obsession, and our unfinished reckoning with racism.
Homecoming by Kate Morton
Adelaide Hills, Christmas Eve, 1959: At the end of a scorching hot day, beside a creek on the grounds of the grand and mysterious mansion, a local delivery man makes a terrible discovery. A police investigation is called and the small town of Tambilla becomes embroiled in one of the most shocking and perplexing murder cases in the history of South Australia.
Sixty years later, Jess is a journalist in search of a story. Having lived and worked in London for almost twenty years, she now finds herself laid off from her full-time job and struggling to make ends meet. A phone call out of nowhere summons her back to Sydney, where her beloved grandmother, Nora, who raised Jess when her mother could not, has suffered a fall and been raced to the hospital.
Nora has always been a vibrant and strong presence: decisive, encouraging, young despite her years. When Jess visits her in the hospital, she is alarmed to find her grandmother frail and confused. It’s even more alarming to hear from Nora's housekeeper that Nora had been distracted in the weeks before her accident and had fallen on the steps to the attic—the one place Jess was forbidden from playing in when she was small.
At loose ends in Nora's house, Jess does some digging of her own. In Nora's bedroom, she discovers a true crime book, chronicling the police investigation into a long-buried tragedy: the Turner Family Tragedy of Christmas Eve, 1959. It is only when Jess skims through the book that she finds a shocking connection between her own family and this once-infamous crime—a crime that has never been resolved satisfactorily. And for a journalist without a story, a cold case might be the best distraction she can find…
Someone Knows by Lisa Scottoline
Twenty years ago, in an upscale suburb of Philadelphia, four teenagers spent a summer as closest friends: drinking, sharing secrets, testing boundaries. When a new boy looked to join them, they decided to pull a prank on him, convincing him to play Russian roulette as an initiation into their group. They secretly planned to leave the gun unloaded—but what happened next would change each of them forever.
Now three of the four reunite for the first time since that horrible summer. The guilt—and the lingering question about who loaded the gun—drove them apart. But after one of the group apparently commits suicide with a gun, their old secrets come roaring back. One of them is going to figure out if the new suicide is what it seems, and if it connects to the events of that long-ago summer. Someone knows exactly what happened—but who? And how far will they go to keep their secrets buried?
The Great Believers by Rebecca Makkai
In 1985, Yale Tishman, the development director for an art gallery in Chicago, is about to pull off an amazing coup, bringing in an extraordinary collection of 1920s paintings as a gift to the gallery. Yet as his career begins to flourish, the carnage of the AIDS epidemic grows around him. One by one, his friends are dying and after his friend Nico's funeral, the virus circles closer and closer to Yale himself. Soon the only person he has left is Fiona, Nico's little sister.
Thirty years later, Fiona is in Paris tracking down her estranged daughter who disappeared into a cult. marlee sigertem - chapter one: her beginnings
i decided with the new sims 4 update completely breaking my game that i would return to the love of my life, the sims 3.
i intended to start a new legacy challenge and play with aspects of the game i never really fully played with before.
however, i did not intend to fall in love with a legacy family so early on.
so here goes.
marlee sigertem moved to strawberry acres with a couple grand to her name, she moved in to a quaint 2 bedroom 1 bathroom house. the second bedroom used for her home office, of course.
see, the thing with marlee is she’s a closeted commitment issues sim, which meant specifically for my gameplay, she didn’t have the commitment issue trait BUT i did not intend to allow her to commit to relationships, and she didn’t seem to mind.
Tumblr media
marlee’s lw is leader of the free world - she wants to reach lvl 10 of the political career. and she is very much so hell bent on completing it.
she went to the city hall to apply for her first job and was successful in snagging the podium polisher position. after she got the job, there was a protest going on, that she - of course - spontaneously decided to join.
Tumblr media
another thing about marlee is she specifically moved to strawberry acres because she loves rural towns, and she knew that the town had an active horse and equestrian community, which was good for her, as she’s an equestrian.
so obviously, she just HAD to adopt a foal.
Tumblr media
that we decided to name delilah.
she immediatly grew a strong bond with delilah, as she was abandoned by her mother and marlee filled the hooves of that role. - hah, im so funny -
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
some time goes by and she meets a beautiful sim named saebyeok park who marlee thought was just stunning, but saebyeok is a female sim, and marlee wasn’t gay... right?
a bit more time goes by and saebyeok begins dating a male sim - and she falls pregnant pretty soon after. (thanks NRASS)
so, naturally, marlee began to presue saebyeok’s brother, jiyun park, who lives with his sister. they had a fling, and tussled in the sheets a bit too risky, and boom, marlee was pregnant.
which she was thrilled about, and so was jiyun apparently because they became an official item.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
but see, marlee was still just starting out in her career, by this time, she was lvl two of her career. so naturally, she had a miscarriage and was heartbroken, but the passion for her goals didn’t stop.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
her and delilah made fourth and third place in a few races.
but while she was drinking a coffee at her local cafe, she overheard some college students talking about sims university which made her reconsider going to college.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
so, with only being able to afford a single term worth 6 credits. she was off to sims university and had a friend watch over delilah while she was gone.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
when she got there, she went to the student meet up and decided to lead a protest just outside the building regarding nuclear war. marlee is an eco-friendly sim and hates how sims continue to ruin their world. she led a very successful protest.
Tumblr media
later, at a bowling alley, she met a sim who caught her eye, heik okimos, a sophomore in the arts.
Tumblr media
of course, she just had to get to know him, DESPITE still having a boyfriend at home, that she had rolled a wish for to MARRY. lmao, poor jiyun.
so, she did, she hanged out with him and they decided to watch the stars together in a parking lot of all places.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
homegirl really went for it, and i couldn’t blame her.
Tumblr media
heik’s face though. x)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
stop, they’re so cute.
naturally, they became romantically involved and stayed as just that, friends but with benefits - those benefits being just kissing, and dates, heik has RESPECT for himself -
Tumblr media Tumblr media
- when i say, i fell in love with heik, i mean it. -
a bit into the term later, marlee was in a class that had her use a the reporting object thing, naturally as she’s a communications major.
her sorority sister, chloe mendenhall caught her eye. - which i’ll admit she’s not the most attractive sim in the vanilla university life game but i had a few default skins and replacement hairs that had just spontaneously made her so pretty in my game. -
Tumblr media
she did the interview interaction and got to know chloe.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
- why is she so pretty? - so naturally after class was over, marlee joined chloe for a small picnic in the student square, because she was starving.
Tumblr media
after a nice lunch, marlee decided to get to know chloe a bit more, and had began to shoot her shot, college is the time to experiment after all.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
- she WENT for it. lmao -
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
- but apparently chloe didn’t mind. -
Tumblr media
- they became romantically involved, which we know what that means to marlee, but maybe chloe thought differently. lmao during all of these flings, marlee was still calling the man that she wanted to marry, every night. like... girl come on. -
sometime passed and marlee decided to experiment more... with chloe.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
*ahem*
- so, marlee starts questioning her sexuality more, but still, doesn’t think she’s gay. she was severely comp-heting guys. -
so, the end of the term was coming so she began to buckle down in between her flings.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
and when the results of her finals grades were in, she was relieved to find out she had an A, passed her exam with flying colors, and was on the dean’s list.
Tumblr media
so naturally, she did a keg stand with heik to celebrate.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
- but the end of the term came, and the rumors of marlee’s reputation came spinning back to chloe, who was caught of guard, she thought what her and marlee had was special. -
Tumblr media
chloe accused marlee of cheating, and was devastated while marlee was confused, she had thought the terms of their relationship was pretty clear.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
chloe called the entire relationship off, they were no longer friends or romantically involved.
Tumblr media
marlee was pretty much unbothered though, lol.
but now, it was time to go home.
Tumblr media
not that she was ready to face jiyun, the man who was entirely faithful to her, who she wanted to marry, but she had to.
to be continued...

Horseplay Chronicles: Unraveling the Drama Behind Indian Racing Duels
Buckle up, racing aficionados, as we embark on a journey through the captivating annals of Indian horse racing—a realm where each thunderous hoofbeat echoes tales of historical duels. These aren't just races; they're gripping dramas, unfolding against the backdrop of a rich historical tapestry, fueled by an undying competitive spirit that transcends time.
1. Hoofprints in History: Setting the Stage for Legendary Rivalries
Let's rewind the reel to the early days of Indian horse racing when the sport was finding its legs on the subcontinent. The first clashes weren't just about speed and stamina; they were about establishing a legacy. Horses like "Champion Charger" and "Stalwart Steed" weren't merely competitors; they were trailblazers, racing into the pages of history books with a fierce determination to etch their names in gold.
The colonial era saw the infusion of British equestrian traditions, adding a touch of aristocracy to the Indian racing scene. Horses became symbols of prestige, and rivalries were born out of a desire to prove superiority, not just on the track but within the socio-cultural context of the time.
2. The Roaring '80s: Feathers Ruffled and Turf Wars Unleashed
Fast forward to the neon-hued '80s, a time when Indian horse racing donned a flamboyant persona. The duels between "Neon Nightshade" and "Radiant Rocket" weren't just about racing supremacy; they were glitzy showdowns capturing the zeitgeist of the era. It was the age of bold colors, big hair, and even bigger egos, and the horses mirrored the extravagant spirit.
As the thoroughbreds thundered down the turf, they carried the aspirations of an entire generation. The tracks became runways, and the horses, glamorous models strutting their stuff. Each duel was a performance—a clash of styles and attitudes, complete with high-stakes drama that left spectators yearning for an encore.
3. Beyond the Finish Line: The Legacy of Competitive Spirit
What sets these historical rivalries apart isn't just the checkered flags or photo finishes; it's the indomitable spirit of competition that lingers beyond the finish line. Horses became not just athletes but symbols of resilience, determination, and the relentless pursuit of excellence.
The competitive spirit forged on the tracks seeped into the cultural fabric of Indian horse racing. Rivalries fueled passionate debates, ignited rival fanbases, and transformed each race into a microcosm of societal aspirations and dreams. The spirit of competition, ingrained in the sport's DNA, continues to shape the contemporary racing landscape.
Conclusion:
As we navigate the labyrinth of Indian horse racing's historical rivalries, we find more than just tales of speed and stamina. These duels are living chronicles, revealing the evolution of a sport that has weathered the storms of time with an unwavering competitive spirit. So, fellow racing enthusiasts, the next time you hear the thunderous hooves, remember, you're not just witnessing a race; you're part of a legacy, a saga where history and competition entwine like a thrilling plotline on the grand stage of Indian horse racing.

Galloping Grace: The Majestic Tale of Horses 🐎✨
In the grand tapestry of the animal kingdom, few creatures embody grace and power as splendidly as the horse. For centuries, these majestic beings have been our steadfast companions, forging partnerships that have shaped civilizations and sparked countless adventures.
From the thundering hooves of wild stallions to the gentle nuzzle of a domesticated mare, horses bridge the realms of untamed wilderness and human connection. Their sleek coats and flowing manes tell tales of freedom, endurance, and untamed spirit.
Horses are not mere modes of transportation; they are living poetry, carrying us through landscapes and histories. They've been companions in war and peace, companions in labor and leisure. The bond between humans and horses is a testament to the harmonious relationship that can exist between different species.
Today, whether in the spirited arenas of equestrian sports or the serene landscapes of farms and pastures, horses continue to capture our hearts. Their elegance, loyalty, and the thunderous rhythm of their gallop weave a timeless narrative, reminding us of the profound beauty found in the union of humanity and nature. 🌿💫 #HorseWhispers #EquineElegance #MajesticCompanions 🐴🌟

This Roman city
This Roman city, mainly on the island, but with annexes, north and south, on the mainland, according to the legend of St. Genevieve, repels the assault of Attila, is captured by Clovis at the end of the fifth century, and is made his capital. During the early monarchy, the island was the city, the home of the kings, the seat of the church, of government, and of justice, crowded with narrow streets and churches, and densely populated.
Gradually as the walls of Paris were extended in a series of circuits from the twelfth to the eighteenth century, the island city was eased of its close population, and at last in our own day was cleared altogether by gigantic sweeps of destruction and reconstruction. It once contained some 50,000 inhabitants, at least fifty or sixty streets, and more than twenty churches. To-day it has few private houses left, except at each end. As we said, the Citi consists of Cathedral, Palais de Justice, and Sainte Chapelle, Conciergerie and Prisons, Prefecture of Police, Chamber of Commerce, a huge hospital, a huge barrack, a flower market — vast places,’ gardens, quays, and Morgue. This is almost all that stands on the Paris of Julian, Clovis, and Hugh Capet.
Roman and Gallo-Roman circuit
It is a task full of historical teaching to trace the successive circuits and the walls of the city as it gradually grew. Each circuit represents an epoch in the history of France. First comes the old Roman and Gallo-Roman circuit — the Citi or island with some fortified post at the head of the North Bridge (PI. du Chatelet) and at the South Bridge (R. St. Jacques) extending on the South mainland as far as the Thermes with villas, theatres, cemeteries, and establishments outside the city circuit. The second circuit is that of Louis the Stout, the great restorer of the monarchy (1130), who built the Grand Chdtelet on the site of the Place du Chatelet, and the Petit Chatelet on the Quai St. Michel (left bank).
The third circuit is that of the great king Philip Augustus (1200), who built the Louvre, completed Notre Dame, and carried the walls North as far as St. Eustache, South as far as the Pantheon private tour istanbul, and included the smaller island, so that the original Citi was now but a sixth of the city. Next comes the fourth circuit, raised by Etienne Marcel in the middle of the fourteenth century, just after Poitiers during the great English War, who is duly commemorated by the fine equestrian statue beside the Hotel du Ville. Marcel laid the foundations of the Bastille, and repaired and strengthened rather than extended the circuit of Philip Augustus; and then the whole work was completed by Charles v. in the second half of the fourteenth century.
The fifth great circuit is that of Richelieu under Louis XIII. who carried the city walls Northwards as far as the existing inner Boulevards, and the R. Richelieu and its quarter is one of its additions; and Southwards it inclosed the whole district of the Luxembourg and its gardens to the Jardin des Plantes. The sixth great change came in the reign of Louis xiv. who conceiving himself invincible in France, if not in Europe, found fortifications in Paris needless and barbarous. Accordingly in his reign the old walls of Henry iv. and Richelieu were razed, and the Boulevards that we know were constructed as spacious avenues. On the site of the ancient Tour de Nesle, the Institute and the College Mazarin were built; the Louvre was completed and transformed into an Italian palace; the Tuileries were continued until they joined the Louvre; the Invalides and other great works were continued, and finally Paris received its character of an open modern city of Palladian architecture.
