My history with Transformers
So the Transformers franchise is officially 40 years old. It's pretty amazing how an inherently silly concept like alien robots who turn into cars has lasted this long and shaped so many childhoods.
Every fan's introduction to it, young and old, is different so I'd like to share my own story:
I watched a lot of cartoons and animated movies as a kid, quite a few of which had fantastical elements. But for some reason, I was the type of kid who didn't care for superheroes or giant robots. I knew of Transformers from an old VHS trailer for Transformers: Armada, as well as that McDonald's ad for Hamtaro and Transformers toys, but that was as far as my knowledge of the franchise went.
It wasn't until 2007 when my brother got the new DVD of Michael Bay's Transformers for Christmas. I'd seen one toy advert for it but hadn't give it any other thought. When he asked me if I wanted to watch it with him, I shrugged and said: "...Yeah, sure, whatever." So the next day, we sat down and watched it. After it had finished, he found it okay... but I, on the other hand, was completely mesmerized throughout the whole movie.
Everything about it astounded me: the action, the visuals, the distinctive designs of each robot, the way the parts of every vehicle folded into every robot's body. Now I finally saw how neat giant transforming robots could be.
If I remember correctly, my favourite Autobot was a tie between Jazz (the cool guy of the group) and Optimus (the big badass truck with the awesome voice). And my favourite Decepticon was Bonecrusher mainly due to his wicked design with the wheeled feet and that claw on his back, along with the fact he was the only one other than Megatron with the ball bearings to fight Optimus (I was really bummed I couldn't play as him in the PS2 game LOL). Afterwards, the very first Transformers toy I owned was Deluxe Class Wreckage which I bought from a charity shop.
It's pretty safe to say that from that point onward, I was hooked on Transformers (the Bay films at least, before I learned later down the line the problems with them). I saw the two sequels, started collecting the toys, drew the characters, played the tie-in games, and even called Dark of the Moon my favourite movie at one point.
While the fourth film was being developed, I was hungry for some more Transformers content. So I decided to try giving one of the TV shows a chance. I was unsure where to start, until I discovered a clip of Optimus and Megatron fighting from Transformers: Prime which has just finished its first season. My interest peaked, I watched the whole show and found that I loved it more than the Bay films, finding all the characters, stories, action and humour to be major improvements. At present, it's still my favourite Transformers show. (Arcee's my favourite 'Bot while Knock Out and Starscream are tied for my favourite 'Cons)
In-between Prime's mid-season breaks, I also took the time to watch the original G1 cartoon, including the 1986 movie. It was nice to go back to the franchise's original toyetic and silly yet still enjoyable and adventurous '80s roots. And despite having been spoiled on Optimus Prime's death years in advance, it still got me emotional (that soundtrack kicks ass tho).
I even bought and played the War for/Fall of Cybertron games on PS3, loving the epic scale and the robot designs which seemed like a sleek blend of both G1 and Prime. It was also my first time playing a Transformers game that took place entirely on Cybertron rather than Earth, which was really cool.
Suffice to say, all this exposure to different Transformers content and having fun comparing them had strengthened my love for it. And despite now knowing full well how nonsensical, repetitive and dull the movies were by comparison, I decided to give Age of Extinction a fair chance once it finally came out... it blew. XD I didn't even bother to watch The Last Knight later, and from what I've read up on it, I didn't miss much.
And since then, my subjection to other Transformers avenues has only grown:
I watched a tiny bit of Robots in Disguise (2015) but didn't find it as engaging as Prime
Watched all of Animated (fun show, really should rewatch it at some point)
Found Bumblebee to be the best live-action movie with a touching smaller-scale story, slicker action and more memorable villains (thank you, Travis Knight)
Got to meet David Sobolov at a convention (really cool guy) and compliment him on his performance as Shockwave
Checked out all of Beast Wars (R.I.P. Dinobot)
Watched the wholesomeness that is EarthSpark (don't care what anyone says, it's great)
Had a fun time with Rise of the Beasts (loved this version of Mirage)
And I may go to TFNation this year to meet David Kaye, Gregg Berger and Kathreen Khavari. Hopefully in the future, I can meet Peter Cullen and Frank Welker as well!
So, yeah, that's my vividly detailed history with Transformers. Despite the degrading quality of the Bay sequels, I still have a soft spot for the first movie. To this day, the effects and action sequences (especially Blackout's introduction, Scorponok's attack and the highway fight) still blow my mind. Plus it was the movie that struck a chord with me and prompted me to dip my toes into the vast ocean of this franchise.
And I'm incredibly thankful that I did. It's brought me so much joy over the years and I could never imagine my life without it.

International Beaver Day
Beavers are very important for the environment, creating natural dams and helping cleanse water. Help raise awareness about the threats facing this declining species.
The beaver may be the national animal of Canada but the furry dam-building rodent can be found across the North American continent and Eurasia as two distinct species, but the population has been on the decline for several decades now.
International Beaver Day aims to celebrate and raise awareness of the plight of the rodent. So now is the time to get ready and enjoy the observance of this fun day!
History of International Beaver Day
Beavers are known for their tree-munching activities, but many people may not know that they use every bit of the tree that they fell! That’s right, they are super efficient with their use of the environment. They eat the buds, bark and leaves, before gnawing the branches and trunk into smaller pieces to build with.
The dams that are built by beavers are useful in preventing floods and droughts, restoring the northern wetlands and even helping to cleanse the water. The largest beaver-built dam is in Wood Buffalo National Park, Alberta, Canada and is 850m long!
International Beaver Day is a fairly modern celebration, getting its start in 2008 when the group Beavers: Wetlands & Wildlife decided a day would be useful for raising public awareness about the beaver. As a shy species, many people aren’t aware of its importance and benefit to the overall health of the environment and ecosystems where it lives. Some people even refer to beavers as “flat-tailed heroes”!
International Beaver Day Timeline
1600s Beaver hats become popular
Beaver hats become an important fashion statement in Europe.
Late 1600s Beavers become virtually extinct in Europe
Because of their love of beaver pelts, Europeans almost obliterate the beaver population and have to outsource them from North America.
1860s Beaver hats go out of fashion
As the popularity of silk hats grows, beaver hats go out of fashion and the fur trade is in severe decline.
1975 Beaver becomes Canada’s national symbol
Meant to symbolize the sovereignty of Canada, the beaver is given official status as a symbol for the country.
2009 International Beaver Day is created
Started by the Beavers, Wetlands & Wildlife organization to raise awareness of the threat caused by habitat loss.
How to Celebrate International Beaver Day
International Beaver Day can be enjoyed in all sorts of creative and interesting ways that help to raise awareness and promote the plight of these clever and important creatures. Try out some of the following ideas to celebrate or invent some unique ideas of your own:
Take a Hike and Go Dam-Spotting
International Beaver Day is a great time to hike into the woods to spot some of these noble gnawers, depending on the location, of course. Take the kids and get into nature as observers to foster the love of beavers. But it’s important to remember that, while an adventure can be a great way to learn, it’s also necessary to minimize the human impact and leave nature as it was found.
Get a BWW Membership
For those diehard fans of beavers, this is the best time of the year to subscribe to the Beavers: Wetlands &Wildlife organization to show support. Memberships are available on many levels, for students, individuals, families, supporters, patrons, or even a lifetime membership option.
Get Educated About Beavers
Read books, watch videos or documentaries, do some internet research and learn as much as possible about these little flat-tailed creatures and their vital part in nature. For teachers in schools or people with kids in their families who would enjoy learning more about beavers, try out some of these kids books in celebration of International Beaver Day:
Beavers For Kids by Patricia Corrigan (1996). This book gives information through photos, cartoons and more through the eyes of an 11-year-old child.
Little Beaver and the Echo by Amy MacDonald (1995). A delightful story about a lonely beaver who makes some friends.
Beavers by Deborah Hodge (1998). All sorts of information about how beavers build their dams, raise their young and much more.
Jack: The Story of a Beaver by Shirley E. Woods (2003). Targeted toward grades 3-6, this book offers a narrative about one beaver, the dangers around him and his life in the colony.
Share International Beaver Day with Others
Let the world know about the support of beavers by participating in the day and sporting some swag at work, at school or somewhere else. One great place to get beaver supporting apparel is through the Beavers: Wetlands & Wildlife organization website where shirts and hats can be purchased. Then, when friends ask about the shirt, take the opportunity to tell them about International Beaver Day.

Instead of discourse about showrunners and lesbians and whatever, I'm gonna bring a different type of discourse...whats ur fav and least Dr Whomst monsters. Hard mode: only the practical ones.
ok so I do like all the obvious ones, I like the angels, I like the vashta nerada, I like the not-things, I like the eternals. Here's a few deeper cuts (focusing on the tv show specifically):
Tumblr media
they peaked with these maggots. they rock. pretty sure they're made with taxidermy? really great puppetry. I really like this thing:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
what a cool design for this kind of forgotten midseason episode.
Tumblr media
this is such a fun design for a langolier-type monster. I love how their crest and tail gives them the silhouette of a grim reaper
The 60s cybermen rock. I feel like they're hesitant to use them often in the modern show because they do look very 1960s but I think there's something really uncomfortable and evocative about the cloth faces that's lost when they're cool metallic robots. The mix between looking like an old diving suit and the implication of there being a chopped up person inside is gnarly and I love it. Simple, creepy, iconic design.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
My favorite design in the show is probably this:
Tumblr media
The 456 from the spinoff series torchwood. They didn't need the puppet to emote or move a ton since it spends the entire season in a little tank obscured in mist, so they just went crazy with the design and made it really bizarre looking. Extremely top tier alien. Anyways, negative. I really don't like this satan. the satan kind of sucks. the impossible planet is great atmospheric sci fi horror; every image of build up in it is haunting and leagues ahead of the climactic scene where he meets the satan. It singlehandedly kind of kills the vibe.
Tumblr media
Personally I would have just kept the actual appearance off screen, just have it be eyes in the dark or something. Apparently they also tossed around the idea that it would end up being a normal little girl who was chained up in the cave and I think that would have visually fit the rest of the episode better.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I'm really not big on the modern design for the sea devils (the green one on the right). I think the classic ones clearly took a lot of direct influence from real animals and generally is a pretty thoughtfully realized design, the modern ones seem like they were first and foremost using the classic ones for reference and didn't quite capture the nuance of the design. Sad, as I would really like to see design for these guys with modern puppetry.
I think this is actually a pretty contentious opinion but the work of the specific studio who headed this redesign generally wasn't my favorite. Apparently there was some sort of major, semi public falling out between the fx studio that had been working on the show since 2005 and the people who started running the show in 2018, and they were briefly replaced with a much less experienced studio. No hate to them of course (I think this was actually their first job like, ever, and a lot of the work was done in crunch time?) but the difference did stand out to me:

Stray Kids with an S/O who is a huge horror movie fan
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
pairing: ot8 x gn!reader
genre: fluff
disclaimer: this is as always just my opinion :)
a/n: as a huge horror movie fan myself, I had to write this! enjoy!🩷
Chan:
As he said before, it's not like he's scared of horror movies, he just doesn't think they're interesting to watch. But, you're interesting to him and he loves you so he will definitely try for you. He also thinks he won't get scared cause 'nothing scares him' but oh boy was he wrong. You have to promise him extra cuddles because he's not gonna be able to fall asleep that night. Will also try to dissect the plot with you after the movie, and try to find meaning in the story just so it's less scary to him.
If he was never really invested into the horror genre, you could show him the classics like The Shining(1980), The Omen(1976), The Amityville Horror (1979), Psycho(1960) and then also some newer iconic movies like Get Out(2017), The Ring(2002), Sinister(2012), Hereditary(2018) and The Conjuring(2013).
Minho:
Loves it. Loves to try and scare you while you're watching a movie together. At first, you're so happy that you can share your love for horror with your significant other. And you know he really doesn't like jumpscares, so you try to find movies that don't have many of those. But if they do and Minho predicts a jumpscare, he'll grab you at the same time it's happening, making you jump out of your skin even though you saw the movie already. You kinda start regretting watching horror movies with him because he annoys you on purpose. He thinks you're so adorable when you're mad at him, but he wont push too far and he'll always make it up with cuddles and kisses later. Overall, 10/10 experience.
I feel like he'd watch almost any horror movie cause he's a curious cat (hehe) and you'd both share your favorites.
I don't know why, but I also feel like Minho would appreciate good old silent horror movies. I just think if he's a horror fan he may enjoy seeing the roots of horror. Like The Cabinet Of Dr. Caligari(1920), Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde(1920), The Phantom Carriage(1921), Nosferatu(1922) and Häxan(1922).
Changbin:
I don't think he's too scared of them but I think he doesn't really care for them too much? Though, if you have some interesting thriller or detective movies to recommend he will definitely wanna watch them with you. I think Changbin likes a movie that has an intelligent story with a plot twist. He likes to guess what's gonna happen next and when he's actually right he'll be so happy and proud. He'll keep talking about how he guessed the plot and how smart he is and how you have to give him extra cuddles now. Either way, you're cuddling and snacking the whole time while watching and it's just nice and cozy.
I think he'd enjoy thrillers like The Game(1997), Fracture(2007), The Machinist(2004), The Double(2013), Shutter Island(2010), Zodiac(2007) and 1408(2007).
Hyunjin:
Miss him with that shit cause he ain't watching it unless you manage to coax him into it. It's gonna take a lot of persuading until he finally gives in but you have to be careful in choosing the right movie for Hyunjin. He doesn't like loud noises and he doesn't really like to feel scared. He'd rather watch something for the story, especially if it's an emotional one, and he also likes character driven stories.
I think he could watch artsy or slow creepy movies that are more drama-like but have elements of horror like Pan's Labyrinth(2006), Dark Water(2005), Windchill(2007), It Follows(2014), The Eyes Of My Mother(2016), I'm Thinking Of Ending Things(2020) and Case 39(2009).
Jisung:
Okay, with this one you can go crazy. Any weird horror movie, anything kinda disturbing, deranged or unhinged will be right up his ally. As a horror and anime fan himself, he's seen some pretty weird stuff so experiment, I guess. I also feel like he'd like fun horror movies, idk how to explain but ones that are disturbing but fun at the same time, like you can't look away even though you're looking at a train wreck.
Movies like Funny Games(2007), The Ruins(2008), Suspiria(1977), The Perfection(2018), Perfect Blue(1997), May(2002), Audition(2000), Saw franchise and Terrifier series would be fun for him. Also, since he mentioned Paranormal Activity, found footage horror movies would be fun to watch with Jisung too like Creep(2014), REC(2007), Unfriended(2015) and Cloverfield(2008).
Felix:
This is just not happening unless you can bribe him with cookies, gummies or any other sweets and ofcourse many cuddles and kisses, even more than you share usually. You'll have to practically beg him to watch a horror movie with you or make some kind of compromise that you'll participate in some activity he likes more than you later. He's not gonna sleep all night if you make him watch anything too scary, actually he wouldn't even be watching that. He'd probably be hidden in your neck the whole time and even the creepy sounds coming from the tv will give him nightmares.
The only way to make him watch horror movies is if they're mixed with comedy or they're so bad that they're funny. Like the Scream franchise, The Cabin In The Woods(2011), What We Do In The Shadows(2014), The Happening(2008), Tucker & Dale vs. Evil(2010), Housebound(2014) and ofcourse zombie comedies like One Cut Of The Dead(2017) and Shaun Of The Dead(2004).
Seungmin:
Kind of indifferent towards the scares but I think he gets annoyed with plot holes and characters acting stupid. Rolls his eyes at every over used trope or cliche sentence. You actually end up laughing while watching horror movies with him because he's too cute when he's annoyed.
"How is this killer still alive? He's been run over by a truck ten times, this is stupid!" or "Okay but why is he going towards the sound? Is he that dumb, he's gonna die!"
He does like dry humor though so he'd like some black comedy movies with horror elements like American Psycho(2000), Parasite(2019), The Lobster(2015), The Menu(2022) but also if you want to annoy him on purpose (because he's cute when he gets worked up) show him slashers like the Halloween franchise, Friday the 13th franchise and Black Christmas(2019).
Jeongin:
With Jeongin, I feel like it can go either way and it definitely depends on the theme of the movie. Also, he will probably try to act brave in front of you (until he jumps at a loud sound and then gets embarassed). For some reason I don't have an exact subgenre of horror for him but for some reason I feel like he'd like newer horror movies like Us(2019), Nope(2022), Last Night In Soho(2021), His House(2020), Host(2020), The Invisible Man(2020) and Fear Street film series.
